RESUMEN

Clandinin and Connelly's narrative inquiry methodology was used to understand the lived and told stories of two emerging adult women (aged 18-29) living with chronic pain. The aim of this paper is to share the experiences of the first author-a graduate student and novice researcher-of creating relational spaces with emerging adult women living with chronic pain, and the experience of co-creating knowledge through the methodological lens of narrative inquiry. There are 12 qualitative touchstones that narrative inquirers attend to when using narrative inquiry, and we present the experiences of a novice narrative inquirer in relation to selected touchstones. Narrative inquiry can greatly contribute to nursing knowledge, and implications for nursing practice and research are discussed.

The aim of this qualitative systematic review was to explore the experiences of migrants living with HIV from HIV endemic sub-Saharan African countries who migrated to high-income countries. In this systematic review of qualitative research studies, we focused on the experiences of migrants living with HIV and the intersections between living with HIV, migration, settlement, culture, race relations, access to health services and HIV care, treatment, and support during migration and settlement in a new host country. We searched 12 electronic databases from database inception for English-language publications. A thematic analysis of qualitative studies [n = 10] was conducted. Complexities exist across the migration and settlement trajectories of migrants living with HIV, which influenced people's level of engagement in the HIV care cascade as well as social determinants of health and social wellbeing.

RESUMEN

Universities are places to promote the wellbeing of people who learn, work, and live within them. This article reports on an innovative, holistic, and embedded wellness dog program that was developed by the Faculty of Nursing to support the wellbeing of students, faculty, and staff. The innovation included a collaborative partnership between two faculties (the faculties of Veterinary Medicine and Nursing), and the targeted purchase, training, and socialization of a wellness dog. Pet wellness programs have the potential to be an important mental health intervention on university campuses. While the program was postponed due to COVID-19, the purpose of this article is to share processes used to create the wellness dog program, with suggestions regarding implementation and evaluation.

We report on qualitative findings from a mixed methods study, examining enacted and internalized stigma during mandatory HIV screening among immigration applicants living with HIV in Canada. Qualitative findings show alignment with characteristics of internalized HIV stigma. We conducted 34 semi-structured interviews, and analyzed the data through thematic analysis, using Intersectionality and the Internalized HIV Stigma Scale as our theoretical and analytical frameworks. Participants described experiences of enacted and internalized HIV stigma in ways that were consistent with the four main domains of stereotypes, disclosure concerns, social relationships, and self-acceptance, but also extended the description of HIV stigma beyond these domains. Experiences of internalized HIV stigma and enacted stigma during the Canadian Immigration Medical Examination could potentially influence individuals' long-term engagement in the HIV care cascade during the process of migration to, and settlement in, Canada. We present recommendations for the broader migrant health research agenda, health and social care providers, and public health policies.

The aim of this article is to define the concept of resilience in the context of chronic pain, while presenting a historical background of resilience. Resilience in young women with chronic pain is discussed where findings exist. Chronic pain places a considerable burden on individual and societal health; resilience is critical to chronic pain management. Enhancing understanding of the concept of resilience can promote resilience and aid in early recognition of impaired coping. Rodgers's evolutionary method of concept analysis was used. Using CINAHL, PubMed, and Google Scholar databases, articles published from 1979 to 2020 were analyzed to identify conceptual components of resilience. We reviewed included articles to determine surrogate terms, relevant uses of the concept, attributes, references of the concept, antecedents, consequences, and related concepts. Resilience in the context of chronic pain is a lifelong process of positive adaption and thriving despite adversity. Components of Rodgers's evolutionary method are identified for the concept. Further research on resilience in young women with chronic pain is needed, given the current lack of literature. Developing nursing interventions to foster resilience is important to promote long-term, effective self-management of individuals living with chronic pain.

INTRODUCTION: In this mixed-methods pilot study, we examined the intersections of the current Canadian immigration policy, mandatory HIV screening during the Immigration Medical Exam (IME) and enacted and internalized stigma for HIV-positive immigrants from sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) in a western Canadian province. We focus on qualitative findings from this study. METHODS: Using the Internalized HIV Stigma Scale (IHSS), we collected data from eight immigrants from SSA living with HIV in a western Canadian province. We then conducted semistructured interviews with seven of the eight participants. Due to the small sample size, survey data were summarized using descriptive analysis. Qualitative data were analyzed through constant comparative analysis. RESULTS: The following key themes emerged from analysis of qualitative data: experiences of HIV-related emotional distress during the IME; varied experiences of HIV testing during the IME; and inconsistent patterns of linkage to medical care, psychosocial supports and engagement in the HIV care cascade. CONCLUSION: Findings from this pilot study cannot be generalized to the broader population of immigrants living with HIV in Canada. However, we found that the experiences of internalized HIV stigma and enacted stigma during the IME potentially influence the long-term engagement in the HIV care cascade during the process of migration and settlement in Canada. Further study in this population is recommended to examine the intersections of current mandatory HIV screening process during the Canadian immigration process, migration, settlement, culture, stigma and engagement in the HIV care cascade.

Persistent Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) prevalence rates remain a challenge, particularly because health care providers (HCP) are not fully prepared to engage in HIV care. This hesitancy to engage creates access to care barriers for people living with HIV (PLWH). We conducted a systematic review to identify educational interventions focused on developing HIV competencies in higher education across health science disciplines. We searched databases for primary studies focused on interventions. Using PRISMA guidelines, we identified 20 articles from 19 distinct studies. While there was an overwhelming body of literature that assessed knowledge, skills, and attitudes in health sciences students on HIV and AIDS, the low number of intervention studies was notable. With the exception of two studies, PLWH were not included in the interventions. This finding stands in sharp contrast to the well-established Greater Involvement of People Living with HIV and/or AIDS (GIPA) and Meaningful Engagement of People Living with HIV and/or AIDS (MEPA) principles. The primary means of the educational intervention was focused on delivering lectures to address HIV and AIDS knowledge for HCP. There was a significant lack of focus on historical, cultural, policy and legal contexts of HIV and AIDS care; theoretical justifications for the interventions were absent. No study focused on the impact of an intervention on the care provided to PLWH by HCP after graduation. There is an urgent need to develop long-term sustainable and scalable interventions that address the consistently identified lack of knowledge and skills, and stigmatizing attitudes of HCP and students.
