RESUMEN

The author encountered a patient who had undergone various sorcery and wizardry practices. At radiography performed because of lower back pain, 100 sharp metal foreign bodies (such as needles and sharpened paper clips) were found scattered between his neck and pelvis. The patient evidently swallowed some of the objects to gain protection against aggression from humans or spiritual beings. However, the means of introduction of some of the objects (eg, the needles in the neck) cannot be determined.

RESUMEN

Blindly executed for a long period with only X-ray detection, renal biopsy benefits nowadays of precision and security of real-time echoguiding. The authors describe their technique without bondage between needle and transducer and comment their results about 413 examinations.

RESUMEN

This report covers two cases of Crohn's Disease, one in a 27 year old Senegalese woman, the other in a 38 year old Senegalese man, both presenting abdominal pain, diarrhoea and loss of weight over several months. The ulcerated lesions were staged on the colon, respecting the rectum, and reached the ileum in one patient and the esophagus in the other. Following X-rays, endoscopy and consideration of the history, Crohn's Disease was diagnosed. Treatment with corticoids produced rapid improvement with the ulcers healing after one month. The unusualness of Crohn's Disease in Black Africans adds interest to these two observations.

RESUMEN

The authors have worked out growth curves for the 3 classical parameters (BPD, HED and Femur) for the Gabonese by studying 870 ultrasound sets of measurements carried out between the 15th and the 40th week of amenorrhoea in normal pregnancies. Comparisons between these curves that have been worked out with those in Europe and the U.S.A. show that there is no difference between them that could be explained by the ecological conditions or the eating habits among other factors.

RESUMEN

Acute intoxications with petroleum are frequent in children: we have seen 36 cases in a year in the General Hospital, Port-Gentil (Gabon), service of pediatrics. Pulmonary lesions are aggravated by vomitus; radiological signs appear after half an hour, interest the right side and are characterized by an interstitial syndrome. Evolution is always good with antibiotherapy. Prevention consists in health education.
