RESUMEN

Synovial sarcoma is a malignant mesenchymal neoplasm that is frequently misdiagnosed due to its slow growth and small size. This tumor presents as a nonspecific heterogeneous mass on cross-sectional imaging. Biopsy and histopathological assessments are required to differentiate synovial sarcoma from other sarcoma subtypes and to define the tumor grade. This article presents the case of a 17-year-old male patient with perineal synovial sarcoma.

RESUMEN

A congenital defect of the fetal intestinal rotation, known as malrotation of the gut, is most often identified as an acute intestinal occlusion in early infancy. Adults with this disease tend to be asymptomatic and extremely rare. We present a case of a 47-year-old woman with duodenal obstruction due to Ladd's band admitted with acute abdominal pain and vomiting.

RESUMEN

Background: Papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) is more frequently reported in patients with Hashimoto's thyroiditis (HT), which may be associated with the presence of solid cell nests (SCNs) and focal PTC-like nuclear alterations in the thyroid gland. The point of this consideration was to assess the morphological and immunohistochemical features of SCNs and follicular epithelial changes in Vietnamese patients with HT. Materials and Methods: Hematoxylin-eosin and immunohistochemistry were performed on 20 samples of HT patients who underwent thyroidectomy and were diagnosed with Hashimoto's thyroiditis at Military Medical Hospital 103 from 6/2018 to 6/2019. The expression of five markers (P63, Calcitonin, TTF1, CK19 and HBME-1) in SCNs and follicular epithelial changes were evaluated. Results: Ninety per cent of samples had SCNs with an average of 10 SCNs per section. Only type 1 and type 4 SCNs were presented (85% and 55%, respectively) and all SCNs were composed of main cells (p63-positive). Fifteen of the 18 cases having SCNs possessed nuclear features of PTC. C-cell hyperplasia was found in one case with 20 clusters. All SCNs showed strong staining with CK19 and weak staining with HBME-1. Follicular epithelial changes were Hürthle cell metaplasia, PTC-like nuclear alterations, atypical solid nodules, papillary and glomerular-like forms (40%, 100%, 25% and 50%, respectively). Follicular cells of glomerular-like forms (new alteration) especially were positive with CK19 (2+ ~ 3+), HBME-1 (1+) and TTF1, while the components in these follicles were negative with CK19, HBME-1 and TTF1. Among PTC-like nuclear alterations, all the atypical solid nodules related to HT showed markers related to PTC and without SCNs. Conclusions: Increasing the number of SCNs, as well as PTC-like nuclear alterations of main cells in SCNs and follicular epithelial changes were co-expressed CK19 and HBME-1. Therefore, the need for HT management should be considered.

RESUMEN

Intestinal hypoganglionosis in adults is quite uncommon, and hypoganglionosis of the ileum has not been documented to date. The majority of studies on this disorder are single case reports and brief case series. We describe a 30-year-old male patient with bowel obstruction and intestinal hypoganglionosis of the ileum and we review the literature on the disorder.

RESUMEN

Abdominal effusion due to hepatic lymphorrhea post-hepatectomy is an extremely rare and complex complication in clinical practice. No standard treatment method has been established for this condition to date. We report a case of complicated intra-abdominal lymphatic leakage in a patient following hepatectomy to treat hepatocellular carcinoma. The patient underwent percutaneous embolization of the hilar hepatic lymphatic system, combined with intensive medical treatment. Percutaneous embolization represents a safe and effective method that should be considered as a first-line treatment for this complication.

RESUMEN

A series of host molecules have been designed and characterized for use in phosphorescent organic light-emitting diode devices. The parent host molecule was modified by adding nitrogen-containing group at different positions. The first triplet excited (T1) and first singlet excited (S1) states energies, frontier orbital energy levels, reorganization energies and injection barriers of the molecules designed were calculated in comparison to those of the reference host, emitter, hole and electron transport materials. Interestingly, our results suggest that addition of nitrogen group into the dibenzothiophene by a N-C linkage increases the triplet energy separation and decreases the injection barriers making them suitable for use as blue phosphorescent materials.

RESUMEN

A patient with extensive burn injuries was admitted to the National Hospital of Burns in Hanoi, Vietnam, and diagnosed with fungal wound infection by histological examination of skin biopsy samples. Fusarium solani was isolated and identified by analysis of its morphological features and the sequence of the internal transcribed spacer region. The isolation showed in vitro resistant to fluconazole, voriconazole, itraconazole, amphotericin B, and caspofungin. Invasive fusariosis is difficult to treat due to its angioinvasive property and its lacking amenability to treatment with antifungal drugs. This infection is rare and has not been reported so far in Vietnam.

RESUMEN

Benzosiloles and their π-extended derivatives are present in many important advanced materials due to their excellent physical properties. Especially, they have found many potential applications in the development of novel electronic materials such as OLEDs, semiconductors and solar cells. In this review, we have summarized several main approaches to construct (di)benzosilole derivatives and (benzo)siloles fused to aromatic five- and six-membered heterocycles.
