This study investigates the relationship between erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) and ABO blood grouping in the context of periodontal disorders. Periodontal diseases, chronic inflammatory conditions that damage the tissues supporting teeth, can lead to tooth loss if left untreated. ESR, a common hematological test indicating systemic inflammation, has been linked to the severity of periodontal disease. ABO blood grouping, a hereditary trait, is linked to a higher risk of various oral and systemic diseases. By synthesizing existing research, this study explores the potential of the connection between blood type ABO and ESR levels in individuals with periodontal disorders, examining studies that assess the distribution of ABO blood types and corresponding ESR values among periodontal patients.

The most common aesthetic issue that affects people's smiles is gingival pigmentation, especially in those with high smile lines. This pigmented gingiva is thought to be naturally occurring melanin pigments that add to the gingiva's endogenous pigmentation. The goal of plastic periodontal surgery known as "gingival depigmentation" is to lighten the dark gingiva by scraping off the gingival epithelium. Gingival depigmentation has been performed with a variety of techniques, including bur abrasion, scraping, partial thickness flap, cryotherapy, electrocautery, and laser. The present case comprised a split-mouth design in which depigmentation using an electrosurgical unit and soft tissue trimming bur was used for the maxillary sections, and evaluated the difference in pain felt by the patient and healing of the surgical site between the sites treated with the electrosurgical unit and bur abrasion method. A visual analog scale (VAS) was used to quantify pain felt by the patient on the seventh day, whereas healing was assessed on the seventh day and at a one-month interval visually. The results of this study showed that the electrocautery-treated site showed better results in terms of pain experienced by the patient and also with the surgical site healing.

Pyogenic granuloma (PG) refers to an acquired benign proliferation most commonly seen within the oral cavity involving lips, palate, and gingiva. The term is misleading since it is a type of lobular capillary haemangioma but not an infection. It frequently recurs but lacks the capacity for malignant alteration. Depending on where the PG is located, one may experience discomfort or irritation. PGs often lead to differential diagnoses by clinicians, which include capillary hemangioma, neurofibroma, melanoma, and hyperplasia. Therefore, one must confirm a PG by diagnosing and analysing it by clinical and histopathological examinations, and treatment options should be formulated according to the evaluation. Sometimes, a biopsy of the lesion can be taken for final diagnosis. Various treatment approaches are available, including conventional scalpel excision, laser, electrocautery, and cryotherapy. Surgical excision is preferable due to the likelihood of malignancy, as it provides the best cosmetic appearance and produces a specimen for pathologic assessment. After confirming all the clinical evaluatory parameters and routine haematological examinations, which proved satisfactory and within normal ranges, this case of a 45-year-old female with soft tissue growth of the gingival origin was managed by electrocautery, and the PG was confirmed by a clinical-histopathological examination.

Gingival overgrowth, localized or generalized, is one of the leading causes of poor maintenance of oral hygiene. Excision of growth using laser should be the choice of treatment because laser helps maintain a blood-free surgical site during treatment and provides more patient comfort during and after the procedure. Lasers are commonly employed in many different applications, including scaling, root planning, cavity preparation, and excision of soft tissue growths in surgery. Laser therapy offers numerous benefits over traditional methods of treatment. These benefits have led to the growing use of lasers as dental treatment options in a variety of dental fields. In this case report, we are presenting a case of excision of localized gingival growth using a laser. Postoperative healing and maintenance of oral health were satisfied after laser surgery.

The peripheral cemento-ossifying fibroma (PCOF) lesion primarily affects females in their second decade of living. These lesions are more frequently associated with the gingival margin, the anterior surface of the molars, and the maxilla. On clinical examination, PCOF typically appears as a well-differentiated, slowly expanding gingival mass in the interdental papilla region that is less than 2 cm in size. The surface may seem ulcerated, the base may be sessile or sometimes pedunculated, and the colour is either the same as the gingiva or reddish. The histological examination, which identifies cellular connective tissue and the focal presence of bone or calcifications, provides the basis for the final diagnosis. Treatment modalities for the PCOF include surgical excision of the lesion. A 38-year-old female reported slow-growing swelling associated with the maxillary anterior region. Removal of the lesion is done by using a scalpel, and histopathological examination revealed the peripheral type of cemento-ossifying fibroma. This case report demonstrates the management of PCOF lesions with the conventional scalpel approach with the help of proper clinical examination, radiological findings, and histopathological examination, which reveals favourable outcomes in the patient regarding esthetics and improves mastication-related issues and speech.

An inflammatory hyperplasia known as a pyogenic granuloma (PG) appears as a nodular growth on the oral mucosa. The most frequent place is the gingiva, followed by the buccal mucosa, tongue, and lips. Histologically, the surface epithelium may be hyperkeratotic, have ulceration foci, or be intact. It lies on the dense connective tissue that contains a sizable amount of fully developed collagen. Most of the pregnancies result in PG of the gingiva; for this reason, the phrases "Pregnancy Tumor" and "Granuloma Gravidarum" are frequently used. It typically occurs during the second and third months of pregnancy and tends to bleed, making it challenging to masticate. Estrogen increases the vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) synthesis in macrophages, which is associated with PG development during pregnancy. This case describes a surgically treated case of PG in a middle-aged female with a conventional scalpel technique, giving functional and esthetic outcomes in a patient.

The dentistry specialty known as periodontology focuses on problems with the tissues that support and surround teeth. A thorough understanding of basic sciences and health care is necessary for periodontology. To ensure that the dentition has adequate form, function, esthetics, and comfort, it is essential to have a thorough understanding of the relationship between periodontal tissues and how it relates to other branches of dentistry, such as restorative dentistry, orthodontics, prosthodontics, and implants. The periodontal ligament is a soft tissue between the alveolar bone and teeth. Since the alveolar bone is the foundation for successful dental treatment, proceeding with subsequent dental procedures, including restorative dentistry, implants, and prosthetic uses, is only possible with sufficient bone support. The current review article aims to assess the perception of undergraduate students regarding periodontics and its range of practice. It also gives a general overview of the field of periodontology by outlining current practices, exploring how students perceive this branch's range of courses, and emphasizing more recent and sophisticated developments.

Polyetheretherketone (PEEK) is a very powerful biomaterial that is increasingly used in dentistry. It has superior properties, which make it desirable in implantology. The applications of PEEK include finger prosthesis, RPD and FPD framework, and dental implants. Changes in the production of polyketone-based materials have been made to ensure consistent production of polymers for medical applications. PEEK is a high-performance semicrystalline material that has physical properties such as high resilience and strength. It is a tooth-colored material, making it desirable for its aesthetic appearance. Traditional manufacturing methods like injection molding, extrusion, and compression molding are used for PEEK. Despite the high price of the polymer, the additional value that PEEK materials bring by offering the possibility of manufacturing parts include lightweight, strength or toughness and able to survive longer in harsh environments. PEEK has trauma or shock cancelling abilities, fracture resisting abilities, stress distributing ability, osseointegrating abilities, With such great qualities PEEK has an increased demand in the market, and this biomaterial never failes to surprise with its amazing success rate. Even in dentistry PEEK has a wide range of applications which includes, as a dental implants biomaterial, prosthetic material, abutment material, post and core material, crowns, removable partial denture framework. With such a huge range of applications PEEK is said to have been providing an all in one package for dentistry. PEEK biomaterial shows great compatibility with bioactive materials which has proven to be of great help to mankind as not only it is involved in life sciences but also in automotives and aerodynamics as well. The main motto of this review is to know the qualities and the properties of PEEK as a capable implant prosthesis for its application focusing on dental implants. This review tells us about the challenges faced when using this material and benefits and advantages of this biomaterial.

Exodontia is a painful treatment that frequently causes the alveolar bone and surrounding soft tissues to be immediately destroyed and lost. With regard to the amount of resorption taking place after extraction, various treatment protocols aimed at preventing or decreasing alveolar ridge collapse have been presented over the past three decades. Ridge preservation is a clinical technique used to prevent the socket walls' bone resorption after tooth extraction. A 43­year­old female patient with a non-significant medical history visited the Department of Periodontology and Implantology with a chief complaint of a decayed tooth in the upper left back region (26) for three years and wants to get it replaced. The treatment option that was given to the patient was atraumatic extraction, followed by ridge preservation. A cautious and conservative treatment strategy is necessary to preserve the oral structures as they currently exist and are intact for a successful outcome; careful case selection and thorough treatment planning are crucial. Atraumatic tooth extraction is a procedure used to delicately remove a tooth while upholding the fundamental principles of preserving the surrounding bone and gingival structure. This will ultimately maximize the success of implant placement in terms of appearance and functionality.

The formation of biomaterials is a physical phenomenon that is primarily influenced by the material's chemical and physical characteristics, as well as by the availability of proteins and their mutual interactions. A common extracellular matrix (ECM) glycoprotein called fibronectin (FN) is a biomaterial that is essential for tissue repair. Cellular FN (cFN), also known as the "large external transformation sensitive (LETS) protein" or "galactoprotein," was found during the quest for tumour markers twenty-five years ago and was later identified as the surface fibroblast antigen. Twenty different isoforms of the FN protein can be created by alternative splicing of a single pre-messenger ribonucleic acid (pre-mRNA) molecule. FN is an outstanding illustration of an ECM protein that intricately influences cell activity. FN is necessary for cell behaviours like cell adhesion, cell migration, and differentiation of cells as well as highly coordinated tissue processes like morphogenesis and wound repair. Plasma FN is absorbed by tissues and deposited in extracellular matrix fibrils along with locally generated cellular FN. cFN is produced by a wide range of cell types, including fibroblasts, endothelial cells, chondrocytes, synovial cells, and myocytes. FN and other cell adhesion proteins can promote cell attachment to tooth surfaces. Periodontal ligament (PDL) cell-ECM interactions, and consequently the regeneration of periodontal tissues, depends on FN. Specific FN segments serve as indicators of periodontal disease status and provide evidence for their potential involvement in the pathophysiology of the condition. FN is an all-purpose biomaterial that may be utilised for clinical applications ranging from tissue engineering to disease biology. Therefore, it would be desirable to develop materials that specifically bind to FN.

Background: Marginal tissue recession is a frequent clinical scenario that creates substantial compromise in esthetic appearance of the patient. The current randomized, double-blind interventional trial aims to evaluate the effectiveness of the combination of "platelet rich fibrin (PRF)" membrane with bioresorbable guided tissue regeneration (GTR) membrane as compared to GTR membrane alone utilizing "double lateral sliding bridge flap (DLSBF) technique" for the management of simultaneous GR defects in human subjects. Materials and Methods: Twenty subjects were randomly allotted in two groups: Group 1 (test): 10 subjects treated with PRF + GTR membrane using DLSBF technique and Group 2 (control): 10 subjects treated with GTR membrane alone using DLSBF technique. Clinical measurements such as relative gingival marginal level, "relative clinical attachment level (R-CAL)," "probing pocket depth (PPD)," "gingival recession (GR)," and "width of keratinized gingiva (WKG) and gingival thickness (GT)" were evaluated at the initiation of the study and 6 months thereafter. Results: Two groups showed statistically significant differences with respect to probing depth reduction, CAL gain, and increase in WKG and GT. No significant result was observed with mean root coverage (RC) and complete RC for test (84.80% ± 19.53% and 54.99% ± 38.53%) and control group (75.69% ± 18.86% and 35.83% ± 39.29%), respectively. Conclusions: The combination of PRF membrane used along with GTR membrane provides no additional benefits over GTR membrane alone. However, the DLSBF technique convincingly shows simultaneous elimination of multiple problems associated with GR, shallow vestibule, hypersensitivity, and aberrant frenum pull in a single stage with meticulous performance.

OBJECTIVES: Rehabilitation of edentulous ridges to promote the insertion of dental implants has been the key indicator for retaining osseous structures since tooth extraction. Recombinant Bone Morphogenetic Protein-2(rhBMP-2) is exploited for bone augmentation due to its osteoinductive capacity. The objective of the study to determine the effectiveness of bone induction for implant placement by rhBMP-2 delivered on beta-tricalcium phosphate graft (ß-TCP) and PRF following tooth extraction. RESULTS: Minimal changes in the width of the crestal bone relative to baseline values were found three months after socket grafting. A bone loss in the mesiodistal and buccolingual aspects of 0.6 ± 0.13 mm and 0.5 ± 0.13 mm was found, respectively. While drilling before the implant placement, the bone's clinical hardness evaluated through tactile was analogous to drilling into spruce or white pine wood. Total radiographic bone filling was seen in 3 months and no additional augmentation was needed during implant placement. Besides, histology shows no residual graft of bone particles. Therefore, the data from this study demonstrated that the novel combination of rhBMP-2 + ß-TCP mixed with PRF has an effect on de novo bone formation and can be recommended for socket grafting before implant placement.
