RESUMEN

The objective of this study is to investigate the validity and reliability of the Turkish version of the Arthritis Impact Measurement Scale 2-Short Form (AIMS2-SF). Subjects fulfilling the ACR 2010 classification criteria for RA were enrolled into the study. Scale reliability was investigated using test-retest reliability (intra-class correlation coefficient-ICC) and internal consistency approaches (Cronbach's α). Spearman's rank correlation coefficients evaluated relationships between quantitative parameters and validity. Construct validity was assessed by correlating AIMS2-SF with clinical parameters and functional parameters including, Nottingham Health Profile (NHP), Health Assessment Questionnaire (HAQ), Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) and Duruöz Hand Index (DHI). One hundred and sixteen patients (105 females and 11 males) were recruited. The mean age ± standard deviation (SD) was 52.45 ± 11.48 years. Cronbach's α was 0.88 and the ICC was 0.91. There were significant correlations (rho and p values) with parameters directly related to health-related quality of life (HRQoL); NHP subscales (energy levels: 0.54, pain: 0.62, emotional reaction: 0.50, sleep 0.44, social interaction: 0.51, physical activity: 0.61; p < 0.0005), HAQ (0.60, p < 0.0005), BDI (0.63, p < 0.001) and DHI (0.63, p < 0.0005). Poor or non-significant correlations were found for parameters not directly related to QoL, such as age (0.07, p = 0.45) and disease duration (0.12, p = 0.21); however, disease activity (0.43, p < 0.0005) and NRS pain (0.46, p < 0.0005) were correlated with AIMS2-SF as moderate. The Turkish AIMS2-SF version is a reliable and valid tool that may be used to evaluate QoL for RA. The scale can be easily used in daily practice.

RESUMEN

Objectives: This study aims to investigate the validity and reliability of the Turkish version of the Mini-Osteoarthritis Knee and Hip Quality of Life (Mini-OAKHQoL) scale developed to assess the quality of life (QoL) in patients with knee and/or hip osteoarthritis. Patients and methods: Between May 2018 and May 2020, a total of 83 patients (11 males, 72 females; mean age: 58.1±10.0 years; range, 39 to 81 years) with knee and/or hip osteoarthritis were included. Demographic, clinical, and survey data (Mini-OAKHQoL, Nottingham Health Profile, Short Form-36, Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index, Lequesne Index, and Visual Analog Scale of pain intensity) were recorded. Missing data, floor effect, and ceiling effect were calculated. For reliability analysis, internal consistency and test-retest reliability were discovered. Face, content, convergent, and divergent validities were applied. Results: Among the patients, 52 (62.65%) had knee osteoarthritis, 26 (31.32%) had hip osteoarthritis, and five (6.02%) had both. Mini-OAKHQoL had a good face and content validity. The average item completion rate was 96.9%, with the time needed to perform was about 4 min. None of the subscales of Mini-OAKHQoL presented floor or ceiling effect, with a good range of responses. The Cronbach alpha coefficients and intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) analysis of the subscales ranged from 0.927 to 0.676 and 0.987 to 0.843, respectively. Regarding convergent validity, the physical activities, mental health, and pain subscales of Mini-OAKHQoL had moderate to high correlations with the topic-related subset of the other QoL surveys. There were no or weak correlations between Mini-OAKHQoL and non-QoL parameters, indicating its divergent validity. Conclusion: The Turkish version of Mini-OAKHQoL is a valid, reliable, simple, practical, accurate, completable, comprehensive, and disease-specific self-report instrument to assess QoL in patients with knee and/or hip osteoarthritis.

RESUMEN

AIM: The aim of this study was to investigate foot deformities in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA), to detect frequency of deformities and to assess the relationship between foot deformities and foot functions. METHODS: Anteroposterior and lateral radiographs of 40 patients and 40 control subjects were studied. The hallux valgus (HV) angle, intermetatarsal angle between first and second metatarsals, intermetatarsal angle between first and fifth metatarsals, and calcaneal pitch were measured on radiographs. Foot functions were measured by the Foot and Ankle Outcome Score (FAOS). RESULTS: The frequency of foot deformities in RA patients was determined as 78.8%. The most frequent foot deformity in RA patients was HV (62.5%), followed by metatarsus primus varus (MPV) (41.3%). MPV and splaying of the forefoot deformities were significantly more frequent in RA patients than the control group (P < 0.05). Mild to moderate effect on FAOS subscales was observed in RA patients. There was a slight, but significant correlation between the foot deformities and the FAOS subscales except for quality of life subscale. CONCLUSIONS: In this study, it has been shown that foot deformities are frequent in patients with RA and that there is slight deterioration in foot functions related to RA. Our results indicated that foot deformities have small, but clinically important changes on foot functions. There is a need for more studies, which evaluates the foot deformities, to further explore the relationship between the foot deformities and foot function in patients with RA.
