RESUMEN

Acute cytomegalovirus mononucleosis has been associated with maculopapular rashes, petechiae, purpura, urticaria, ulcerative lesions, and vesicular eruptions. Although erythema nodosum has been reported in association with a number of infectious and noninfectious diseases, to our knowledge it has not been associated with cytomegalovirus infections. We report the first case of an adult patient with acute cytomegalovirus mononucleosis who presented with erythema nodosum.

RESUMEN

The medical records and radiographs of the hands, wrists, and feet of 50 patients with psoriatic arthritis and 34 with erosive osteoarthritis were reviewed. Polyarticular arthrutis in psoriatics is often unilateral and the joints of a single ray may be selectively affected. Their erosions ten to occur at the "bare areas" of joints, whereas in erosive osteoarthritis it is the subchondral cortex that is primarily affected. Linear periosteal bone apposition is common in the latter. The distribution of arthritis, sites of bone erosion, and character of periosteal bone apposition form distinctive patterns in these conditions which are important in differential diagnosis.

RESUMEN

A basic knowledge of physical diagnosis techniques and an understanding of those parts of clinical medicine (including laboratory diagnosis) most closely related to dentistry are recognized to be important parts of dental education. The course in physical, clinical, and laboratory diagnosis for dentists pursuing specialty training in oral surgery, endodontics, periodontics, oral diagnosis, prosthodontics, and general practice at The University of Michigan School of Dentistry is described.

RESUMEN

A young woman had unilateral dermatomal hyperhidrosis documented by a starch-iodine technique. Evaluation failed to reveal any associated causative conditions. She was treated with 20% aluminum chloride hexahydrate solution in absolute alcohol (Drysol) with a favorable response. With recurrent use, however, she developed miliaria following exertion. Aluminum chloride hexahydrate was shown to be an effective agent to treat this unusual condition, but miliaria with exertion secondary to its use may be a limiting factor.
