RESUMEN

A novel cloud-point extraction (CPE) procedure for the determination of ultra-trace amounts of arsenic species in real samples, purchased from the local market by spectrophotometer was developed. Inorganic arsenic species analysis in water, beverages, and foods has become increasingly important in recent years, as arsenic species are considered carcinogenic and are assessed at significant levels in samples. The technique is established on a selective ternary complex of As(V) with astrazon orange G (AOG+) in the presence of tartaric acid and polyethylene glycol tertoctylphenyl ether (Triton X-114) at pH 4.0. The calibration curve developed within range 3.0-160 ng/mL with a correlation coefficient of 0.9988 for As(V) provided a preconcentration factor of 200 and a limit of detection (3S blank/m) of 0.88 ng/mL under optimum investigation conditions. The results of molar absorptivity and Sandell sensitivity are calculated and found to be 4.38 × 105 L/mol cm and 0.018 ng cm-2, respectively. The statistical treatment of data obtained from the proposed and GF-AAS procedures are compared in terms of Student's t-tests and variance ratio F-tests has revealed no significant differences. The methodology has been effectively confirmed by assessing real samples and comparing it to the GF-AAS method statistically.

RESUMEN

A new eco-friendly method for creating an optical sensor membrane specifically designed to detect yttrium ions (Y3+) has been developed. The proposed sensor membrane is fabricated by integrating 4-(2-arsonophenylazo) salicylic acid (APASA), sodium tetraphenylborate (Na-TPB), and tri-n-octyl phosphine oxide (TOPO) into a plasticized poly(vinyl chloride) matrix with dimethyl sebacate (DMS) as the plasticizer. In this sensor membrane, APASA functions dually as an ionophore and a chromoionophore, while TOPO enhances the complexation of Y3+ ions with APASA. The composition of the sensor membrane has been meticulously optimized to achieve peak performance. The current membrane exhibits a linear dynamic range for Y3+ ions from 8.0 × 10-9 to 2.3 × 10-5 M, with detection and quantification limits of 2.3 × 10-9 and 7.7 × 10-9 M, respectively. No interference from other potentially interfering cations and anions was observed in the determination of Y3+. The membrane showed strong stability and a swift response time of about 3.0 minutes, with no signs of APASA leaching. This sensor is highly selective for Y3+ ions and can be renewed by treating it with 0.15 M HNO3. It has been effectively applied to measure Y3+ in nickel-based alloys, as well as in biological and environmental samples.

Cancer is a major disease that threatens human health all over the world. Intervention and prevention in premalignant processes are successful ways to prevent cancer from striking. On the other hand, the marine ecosystem is a treasure storehouse of promising bioactive metabolites. The use of such marine products can be optimized by selecting a suitable nanocarrier. Therefore, epi-obtusane, previously isolated from Aplysia oculifera, was investigated for its potential anticancer effects toward cervical cancer through a series of in vitro assays in HeLa cells using the MTT assay method. Additionally, the sesquiterpene was encapsulated within a liposomal formulation (size = 130.8 ± 50.3, PDI = 0.462, zeta potential -12.3 ± 2.3), and the antiproliferative potential of epi-obtusane was investigated against the human cervical cancer cell line HeLa before and after encapsulation with liposomes. Epi-obtusane exhibited a potent effect against the HeLa cell line, while the formulated molecule with liposomes increased the in vitro antiproliferative activity. Additionally, cell cycle arrest analysis, as well as the apoptosis assay, performed via FITC-Annexin-V/propidium iodide double staining (flow cytofluorimetry), were carried out. The pharmacological network enabled us to deliver further insights into the mechanism of epi-obtusane, suggesting that STAT3 might be targeted by the compound. Moreover, molecular docking showed a comparable binding score of the isolated compound towards the STAT3 SH2 domain. The targets possess an anticancer effect through the endometrial cancer pathway, regulation of DNA templated transcription, and nitric oxide synthase, as mentioned by the KEGG and ShinyGo 7.1 databases.

A systematic study integrating laboratory, analytical, and case study field trial was conducted to figure out the effective adsorbent that could be used for the removal of Congo red (CR) dye from industrial wastewater effluent. The ability of the zeolite (Z) to adsorb CR dye from aqueous solutions was evaluated after it was modified by the Cystoseira compressa algae (CC) (Egyptian marine algae). Zeolite, CC algae were combined together in order to form the new composite zeolite/algae composite (ZCC) using wet impregnation technique and then characterized by the aid of different techniques. A noticeable enhancement in the adsorption capacity of newly synthesized ZCC was observed if compared to Z and CC, particularly at low CR concentrations. The batch style experiment was selected to figure out the impact of various experimental conditions on the adsorption behavior of different adsorbents. Moreover, isotherms and kinetics were estimated. According to the experimental results, the newly synthesized ZCC composite might be applied optimistically as an adsorbent for eliminating anionic dye molecules from industrial wastewater at low dye concentration. The dye adsorption on Z and ZCC followed the Langmuir isotherm, while that of CC followed the Freundlich isotherm. The dye adsorption kinetics on ZCC, CC, and Z were agreed with Elovich, intra-particle, and pseudo-second-order kinetic models, correspondingly. Adsorption mechanisms were also assessed using Weber's intraparticle diffusion model. Finally, field tests showed that the newly synthesized sorbent has a 98.5% efficient in eliminating dyes from industrial wastewater, authorizing the foundation for a recent eco-friendly adsorbent that facilitate industrial wastewater reuse.

Fatty acids derived from oils and fats of different plant and animal resources are considered one of the most valuable renewable precursors of the synthetic chemical and pharmaceutical industries. On the other hand, heterocyclic compounds are well known nowadays by their constitution of many commercialized drugs due to their unique biological activities. Combination between fatty acids and heterocyclic compounds has made important advances in the construction of valuable biologically relevant molecules in pharmaceutical industry. This review casts light on the synthetic pathways for construction of the fatty acid-heterocycle hybrid up to date in a simple classification and arranged manner.

Cellulose fibers have been one of the most common fibers due to their biodegradability, excellent mechanical properties, biocompatibility, high absorption ability, cheapness and renewability. In this study, novel, simple and green method is concerned with the production of multifunctional cellulose nanofibers (CNFs). Nanocomposites consisting of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) and polyaniline (PANi) were in situ synthesized into plasma-pretreated cellulosic nanofibers fabricated by solution blowing spinning technique. The produced cellulose acetate nanofibers were then subjected to deacetylation followed by plasma-activation followed by a treatment with aniline and silver nitrate (AgNO3) in the presence of ammonium acetate. Plasma-assisted oxidation polymerization process of aniline into PANi associated with a reduction of Ag+ into AgNPs results in their permanent insolubility into the surface of the cellulose nanofibers. The morphologies and elemental contents were determined by polarizing optical microscope (POM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), energy-dispersive X-ray patterns and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Additionally, transmission electron microscope (TEM) was applied to explore the morphologies of silver nanoparticles and PANi showing particle diameter between 12 and 25 nm. The antimicrobial Ag NPs were formed from an aqueous medium of silver nitrate by taking the reduction ability advantage of the electrically active PANi. The immobilization of polyaniline and silver nanoparticles into the surface of the cellulose nanofibers enhanced its electrical conductivity. The produced CNFs demonstrated a high UV protection as well as antibacterial activity.

Synthesis of biologically active heterocyclic derivatives with the related fused systems incorporating a long chain of a fatty compound was described via the reactions of 5-amino-N-octadecyl-1H-pyrazole-4-carboxamide 4 with appropriate reagents namely, enaminones, and ß-diketones. Hydroxylation of the synthesized compounds using a number of moles of propylene oxide gave nonionic surface-active agents having a good solubility in water, easy to handle, good biodegradability and announced surface properties that revealed the importance of their applications in avoiding pollution problems, and making them safe for humans and the environment. The surface properties and antimicrobial activity of these compounds were investigated, which showed low toxicity, high efficiency in the surface and biological activities. Therefore, these compounds may be exhibit capable potential in industry applications and can be used in the manufacture of cosmetics, textiles, moderate emulsifiers, dyes, pesticides and drugs.

A novel series of substituted 2-thiohydantoin incorporated with benzoimidazole, pyrazole, triazole and/or benzoxazole moieties has been synthesized using (E)-3-[1-(4-bromophenyl)ethylideneamino]-2-thioxoimidazolidin-4-one 1 as the key starting material. The key material 1 also, reacted with an acetic anhydride, aromatic aldehydes, secondary amines, formaldehyde and triethyl orthoformate to give the corresponding acetyl, chalcone, Mannich bases and ethoxymethylene derivatives, respectively. The structures of the novel compounds were confirmed by spectral data and elemental analysis. The cytotoxic activity of all synthesized compounds was assessed in vitro against human hepatocellular cancer cell line (HePG-2) and breast carcinoma cell line (MCF-7). The bioassay results revealed that compound 14 has the best activity against HePG-2 cell line (IC50 = 2.33 µg/mL), while compound 5 has the best activity against MCF-7 cell line (IC50 = 3.98 µg/mL).

The synthesis of water-soluble heterocyclic compounds was verified on the basis of nonionic surfactants for use as surface-active agents. Surface characteristics such as surface and interfacial tensions, cloud point, wetting time, emulsion stability, foaming height and foaming stability were measured for these surface factors in aqueous solutions. In addition, the critical micelle concentration (CMC), the surface pressure at CMC (πcmc), the effectiveness of surface tension reduction (pC20), the maximum surface concentration (Γma.) and the minimum area/molecule at the aqueous solution/air interface (Amin) were calculated. Moreover, the biodegradability for these nonionic surfactants has been investigated. Furthermore, the antimicrobial evaluation has been evaluated with some surfactants that have demonstrated a potent cytotoxicity as antibacterial, antifungal and anticancer. These surfactants have a good water solubility, low toxicity, environmentally friendly environment, high foam, good emulsifier and easy production that will be used them in various fields such as medical drugs, insecticides, detergents, emulsifiers, cosmetics, inks clothing, leather industry and oil recovery.

The aim of this study is a synthesis of new bioactive heterocyclic compounds incorporated fatty chain for use in different industrial applications. Cyanoacetamide derivative (2) was successfully transferred into five and six membered heterocyclic derivatives by the reaction with various chemical reagents. Addition number of moles of propylene oxide to these compounds gave nonionic surface-active agents having a good solubility, biodegradability and hence lowers the toxicity to human beings and becomes environmentally friendly. The antimicrobial and surface activities were investigated that showed the most of them have pronounced activity, which makes them suitable for diverse applications like the manufacturing of drugs, pesticides, emulsifiers, cosmetics, etc.

Synthesis of chromenopyrimidine derivatives and the related fused system carried out by the reaction of chromene derivative 1 with various reagents under suitable reaction conditions. Condensation of stearoyl chloride with these heterocycles, then, propoxylated the products using propylene oxide to produce surface active agents having a twofold capacity as surface and antimicrobial dynamic specialists which may be served in the production of medications, pesticides, beautifying agents or may be utilized as an antimicrobial. Some of the surface properties and antimicrobial activity were resolved.

Some functionalized pyridine and fused system derivatives were synthesized using enaminonitrile derivative 5 as a starting material for the reaction, with various reagents under different conditions. Propoxylation of these compounds using different moles of propylene oxide (3, 5 and 7 moles) leads to a novel group of surface active agents. The antimicrobial and surface activities of the synthesized compounds were investigated. Most of the evaluated compounds proved to be active as antibacterial and antifungal agents and showed good surface activity, which makes them suitable for diverse applications such as the manufacturing of emulsifiers, cosmetics, drugs, pesticides, etc. Additionally, biodegradation testing exhibits significant breakdown within six to seven days, and hence, lowers the toxicity to human beings and becomes environmentally friendly.

Possible approaches to the synthesis of functionalized, pyrazole, isoxazole, pyrimidine, pyridine and fused pyridine derivatives The sequence involves the heterocyclization of ethyl 3-oxo-2-(4-stearamidobenzoyl)butanoate (3) with appropriate reagents. Propoxylated of these heterocycles using propylene oxide to produce nonionic surface active agents having a long alkyl chain with molecular weight suitable for becoming an amphiphilic molecule with correct hydrophilic-lypophilic balance which enhances solubility, biodegradability and hence lowers the toxicity to human beings and becomes environmentally friendly. The antimicrobial activity of the newly synthesized was examined and it was found that some of these compounds have similar or higher activity compared with commercial antibiotic drugs (sulphadiazine), which make them suitable for diverse applications like the manufacturing of drugs, pesticides, emulsifiers, cosmetics, etc.
