RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Due to the relative rarity of malignant sublingual gland tumors, diagnosing and treating them clinically pose challenges. Hence, there's a need to explore the pathological types, characteristics, treatment methods, and prognosis of primary malignant tumors of the sublingual gland to improve our understanding and management of these rare yet highly malignant conditions. METHODS: This study reviewed cases of primary malignant sublingual gland tumors, analyzing their characteristics. The treatment methods included surgical excision, with additional radiotherapy, or brachytherapy for advanced stages or positive surgical margins. The study also summarized different treatment approaches, including lymph node dissection and soft tissue reconstruction using free flaps such as the anterolateral thigh flap and forearm flap. RESULTS: We have gathered 23 cases of sublingual gland malignancies treated at the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, School and Hospital of Stomatology, Wuhan University, from January 2013 to May 2024. The most common pathological types were adenoid cystic carcinoma and mucoepidermoid carcinoma, with rare cases of mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) lymphoma and nonspecific salivary gland clear cell carcinoma. Early diagnosis and surgical intervention were crucial for a favorable prognosis. Marginal mandibulectomy was necessary for cases involving the mandible. Patients with positive preoperative lymph node detection required cervical lymph node dissection. Extensive tissue defects in the floor of the mouth were effectively reconstructed with free flaps to prevent oral-mandibular fistula. CONCLUSION: Surgical excision remains the preferred treatment for malignant sublingual gland tumors. Early diagnosis and comprehensive surgical management are essential for improving prognosis. The study's limitations include a small sample size and short follow-up duration, necessitating further research with larger clinical samples to confirm these findings.

RESUMEN

Conductive nanofiltration (CNF) membranes hold great promise for removing small organic pollutants from water through enhanced Donnan exclusion and electrocatalytic degradation. However, current CNF membranes face limitations in conductivity, structural stability, and nanochannel control strategies. This work addresses these challenges by introducing aniline-functionalized carbon nanotubes (NH2-CNTs) as an interlayer. NH2-CNTs enhance the dispersibility and adhesion of pristine carbon nanotubes, leading to a more conductive and stable composite nanofiltration membrane. The redesigned NH2-CNTs interlayered conductive nanofiltration (NICNF) membrane exhibits a 10-fold increase in conductivity and a high response degree (80%) with excellent cyclic stability, surpassing existing CNF membranes. The synergistic effects of enhanced Donnan exclusion, voltage switching, and electrocatalysis enable the NICNF membrane to achieve selective recovery of mixed dyes, 98.97% removal of residual wastewater toxicity, and a 5.2-fold increase in permeance compared to the commercial NF270 membrane. This research paves the way for next-generation multifunctional membranes capable of the efficient recovery and degradation of toxic organic pollutants in wastewater.

RESUMEN

Background: As a prodromal stage of dementia, significant emphasis has been placed on the identification of modifiable risks of mild cognitive impairment (MCI). Research has indicated a correlation between exposure to air pollution and cognitive function in older adults. However, few studies have examined such an association among the MCI population inChina. Objective: We aimed to explore the association between air pollution exposure and MCI risk from the Hubei Memory and Aging Cohort Study. Methods: We measured four pollutants from 2015 to 2018, 3 years before the cognitive assessment of the participants. Logistic regression models were employed to calculate odds ratios (ORs) to assess the relationship between air pollutants and MCI risk. Results: Among 4,205 older participants, the adjusted ORs of MCI risk for the highest quartile of PM2.5, PM10, O3, and SO2 were 1.90 (1.39, 2.62), 1.77 (1.28, 2.47), 0.56 (0.42, 0.75), and 1.18 (0.87, 1.61) respectively, compared with the lowest quartile. Stratified analyses indicated that such associations were found in both males and females, but were more significant in older participants. Conclusions: Our findings are consistent with the growing evidence suggesting that air pollution increases the risk of mild cognitive decline, which has considerable guiding significance for early intervention of dementia in the older population. Further studies in other populations and broader geographical areas are warranted to validate these findings.

RESUMEN

The One Belt One Road Initiative (BRI) has been the subject of multitudinous studies from various angles. Most previous studies have focused on BRI's economic, geopolitical, or commercial implications for China. However, the few studies that focused on BRI's influence on the exportations or importations of Chinese products via the Chinese Cross-border Electronic Commerce Market (CCBECM) have been carried out based only on authors' opinions rather than on empirical evidence. Therefore, the actual effect of BRI on the exportations of Chinese product brands via CCBECM in BRI countries still needs to be discovered. Utilizing B2C exportation data of Chinese smartphones and a Difference-in Difference Model (DIDM), we have first examined the actual and direct impact of BRI policy on Chinese smartphone brands exportations via the Chinese Cross-border Electronic Commerce Market (CCBECM) from 2012 to 2019 in BRI countries. Secondly, we assessed the moderating role of GDP per capita (GDP) and Internet Access Rate (IAR) between BRI policy and exportations of Chinese smartphone brands. The results showed that the impact of BRI remains insignificant on the exportations of Chinese smartphones via CCBECM in BRI countries. However, it could be significant if BRI includes more developed and economically strong countries. The study also highlighted a negative moderating role of GDP per capita between BRI policy and exportations, showing that the higher the BRI effect is, the less GDP per capita will influence Chinese smartphone exportations in BRI countries.

RESUMEN

The study explores the direct and mediated impacts of customers' perception of purchase budget (BGT) on purchase intention (PIT) through perceived quality (PPQ), perceived price (PPR), and perceived benefit (PB) in a cross-country setting to understand BGT's role in predicting customer purchase intention in smartphone selling through international online shopping platforms. An online survey was conducted in Kenya, France, and the United States to gather data from 429 consumers who had recently purchased one or more smartphones through international online shopping platforms. SmartPLS-4 was used to test the hypotheses. Results for the entire sample showed a significantly positive mediating role of PPR and PPQ between BGT and PIT. However, the mediating roles of PPQ and PB were not significant in the samples from Kenya, France, and the United States. The results also showed that PPR plays a significant and positive mediating role between BGT and PIT in samples from Kenya, France, the United States, and overall. However, the direct relationships between BGT and PPQ, PPR, and PB are shown to be negatively significant.

RESUMEN

Despite the growing impact of smartphone use on countries' economies, the literature has rarely investigated the link between economic context and smartphone purchase trends. Based on 20,556 smartphones sold from a Cross-Border E-Commerce (CBEC) platform, the study reveals that relationships between GDP per capita and Smartphone Choice Preferences (SCP) as well as Purchase Quantities (PUR) are direct and partially mediated by Price (PRI), Read-Only Memory (ROM), and Random-Access Memory (RAM). That means that the economic context highlighted by the GDP plays a substantial role in smartphone choices and purchases. The study suggests that e-sellers and smartphone brands should adapt their marketing and manufacturing strategies to the countries' economic contexts to leverage the fearless competition in the smartphone industry.

RESUMEN

Smith-Purcell radiation (SPR) refers to the far-field, strong, spike radiation generated by the interaction of the evanescent Coulomb field of the moving charged particles and the surrounding medium. In applying SPR for particle detection and nanoscale on-chip light sources, wavelength tunability is desired. Here we report on tunable SPR achieved by moving an electron beam parallel to a two-dimensional (2D) metallic nanodisk array. By in-plane rotating the nanodisk array, the emission spectrum of the SPR splits into two peaks, with the shorter-wavelength peak blueshifted and the longer-wavelength one redshifted by increasing the tuning angle. This effect originates from the fact that the electrons fly effectively over a one-dimensional (1D) quasicrystal projected from the surrounding 2D lattice, and the wavelength of SPR is modulated by quasiperiodic characteristic lengths. The experimental data are in agreement with the simulated ones. We suggest that this tunable radiation provides free-electron-driven tunable multiple photon sources at the nanoscale.

RESUMEN

In recent years, the corona virus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has had a huge impact on the global medical, political and economic fields. Since the beginning of the COVID-19 epidemic, our understanding of the impact of COVID-19 has grown exponentially. Recently, the COVID-19 epidemic has changed rapidly in China, and there has been controversy over how to carry out surgical operations for patients with lung neoplastic lesions. Some studies have shown that lung cancer patients undergoing surgery are more likely to experience respiratory failure and perioperative death after contracting COVID-19 than the general population, however, delays in cancer treatment are also associated with increased mortality among these patients. In particular, the novel coronavirus Omikron variant has a higher transmissibility and may escape the immunity obtained through the previous novel coronavirus infection and vaccination. In order to minimize the risk of novel coronavirus infection in surgical patients, it is necessary to develop new treatment guidelines, expert consensus and preventive measures. However, the current rapid change of the epidemic situation has led to insufficient time and evidence to develop guidelines and consensus. Therefore, thoracic surgeons need to evaluate specific patient populations at higher risk of severe complications before surgery and weigh the benefit of surgical treatment against the risk of novel coronavirus infection. We try to give some recommendations on lung surgery during the current domestic epidemic situation based on the guidelines and consensus of oncology and thoracic surgery organizations in different regions on lung surgery.

RESUMEN

Net ecosystem productivity (NEP), the difference between gross primary productivity (GPP) and ecosystem respiration (ER), is the basis of forest carbon sinks. Revealing NEP differences between naturally regenerating forests (NF) and planted forests (PF) can benefit for making carbon neutrality strategies. Based on 35 eddy covariance measurements in China, we analyzed NEP differences in values and spatial patterns between NF and PF. The results showed that NF had slightly lower NEP than PF, resulting from the high stand age (SA) and soil fertilizer, while their differences were not significant (p > 0.05). The increasing latitude decreased mean annual air temperature thus decreased GPP both in NF and PF. However, the higher SA and soil fertilizer in NF made most GPP release as ER thus induced no significant NEP spatial variation, while lower SA and soil fertilizer in PF made NEP spatially couple with GPP thus showed a decreasing latitudinal pattern. Therefore, stand characteristics determined the differences in NEP values but indirectly affected the differences in NEP spatial variations through altering GPP allocation. The decreasing latitudinal pattern of NEP in PF indicates a higher sequestration capacity in the PF of South China. Our results provide a basis for improving the forest carbon sequestration.

RESUMEN

The miniaturization and integration of optoelectronic devices require progressive size reduction of active layers, resulting in less optical absorption and lower quantum efficiency. In this work, we demonstrate that introducing a metasurface made of hybrid organic-inorganic perovskite (HOIP) can significantly enhance broadband absorption and improve photon-to-electron conversion, which roots from exciting Mie resonances together with suppressing optical transmission. On the basis of the HOIP metasurface, a broadband photodetector has been fabricated where photocurrent boosts more than 10 times in the frequency ranging from ultraviolet to visible. The device response time is less than 5.1 µs at wavelengths 380, 532, and 710 nm, and the relevant 3 dB bandwidth is over 0.26 MHz. Moreover, this photodetector has been applied as a signal receiver for transmitting 2D color images in broadband optical communication. These results accentuate the practical applications of HOIP metasurfaces in novel optoelectronic devices for broadband optical communication.

RESUMEN

Photonic quantum information processing relies on operating the quantum state of photons, which usually involves bulky optical components unfavorable for system miniaturization and integration. Here, we report on the transformation and distribution of polarization-entangled photon pairs with multichannel dielectric metasurfaces. The entangled photon pairs interact with metasurface building blocks, where the geometrical-scaling-induced phase gradients are imposed, and are transformed into two-photon entangled states with the desired polarization. Two metasurfaces, each simultaneously distributing polarization-entangled photons to spatially separated multiple channels M (N), may accomplish M×N channels of entanglement distribution and transformation. Experimentally we demonstrate 2×2 and 4×4 distributed entanglement states, including Bell states and superposition of Bell states, with high fidelity and strong polarization correlation. We expect this approach paves the way for future integration of quantum information networks.

RESUMEN

Topological photonics offers the possibility of robust transport and efficiency enhancement of information processing. Terahertz (THz) devices, such as waveguides and beam splitters, are prone to reflection loss owing to their sensitivity to defects and lack of robustness against sharp corners. Thus, it is a challenge to reduce backscattering loss at THz frequencies. In this work, we constructed THz photonic topological insulators and experimentally demonstrated robust, topologically protected valley transport in THz photonic crystals. The THz valley photonic crystal (VPC) was composed of metallic cylinders situated in a triangular lattice. By tuning the relevant location of metallic cylinders in the unit cell, mirror symmetry was broken, and the degenerated states were lifted at the K and K' valleys in the band structure. Consequently, a bandgap of THz VPC was opened, and a nontrivial band structure was created. Based on the calculated band structure, THz field distributions, and valley Berry curvature, we verified the topological phase transition in such type of THz photonic crystals. Further, we showed the emergence of valley-polarized topological edge states between the topologically distinct VPCs. The angle-resolved transmittance measurements identified the bulk bandgap in the band structure of the VPC. The measured time-domain spectra demonstrated the topological transport of valley edge states between distinct VPCs and their robustness against bending and defects. Furthermore, experiments conducted on a topological multi-channel intersectional device revealed the valley-polarized characteristic of the topological edge states. This work provides a unique approach to reduce backscattering loss at the THz regime. It also demonstrates potential high-efficiency THz functional devices such as topologically protected beam splitters, low-loss waveguides, and robust delay lines.

RESUMEN

Annual gross primary productivity (AGPP) serves as the basis for forming biomass and carbon sinks. Analysing the effects of ecosystem types on AGPP spatial variations would be beneficial for clarifying the spatial variability in AGPP, which would serve ecological management practices such as ensuring regional food security. Based on published eddy covariance measurements in China, we collected AGPP data from 128 ecosystems and analysed the effects of ecosystem types on the spatial variations in AGPP to reveal the AGPP spatial variability and its influencing factors over terrestrial ecosystems of China. The results showed that AGPP significantly differed among ecosystem types and vegetation regions, with the lowest AGPP appearing in grasslands, while different ecosystem types had comparable AGPP within the same vegetation region. The AGPP of all ecosystem types showed a decreasing latitudinal trend but slight longitudinal and altitudinal trends. Mean annual air temperature (MAT) and mean annual precipitation (MAP) were found to affect the spatial variations in AGPP over most ecosystem types, while other factors played little role. The mean annual leaf area index (LAI) and the maximum leaf area index (MLAI) were also found to affect the spatial variations in AGPP over most ecosystem types. Factors influencing the AGPP spatial variations differed among ecosystem types, but all included climatic and biotic factors. Therefore, climate inducing spatial distribution of ecosystem types and the non-zonal water supply made AGPP values and factors affecting the spatial variations in AGPP differ among ecosystem types, while different ecosystem types within the same vegetation region had comparable AGPP values. The spatial variation in AGPP over terrestrial ecosystems of China resulted from the integrated effects of climatic and biotic factors. Our study provided data support for improving the understanding of global AGPP spatial variability.

RESUMEN

Most polarization-sensitive photodetectors detect either linearly polarized (LP) or circularly polarized (CP) light. Here, we experimentally demonstrate a multiple-polarization photodetector based on a hybrid organic-inorganic perovskite (HOIP) metasurface, which is sensitive to both LP and CP light simultaneously. The perovskite metasurface is composed of a HOIP antenna array on a single-crystal HOIP film. Owing to the antenna anisotropy, the absorption of linearly polarized light at the metasurface depends on the polarization angle; also, due to the mirror asymmetry of the antenna elements, the metasurface is also sensitive to different circular polarizations. Polarization-dependent photocurrent responses to both LP and CP light are detected. Our results highlight the potential of perovskite metasurfaces for integrated photoelectric applications.

RESUMEN

ObjectiveTo determine the subtypes and epidemiological characteristics of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) in children with acute respiratory infection in Huzhou area. MethodsA total of 1 856 nasopharyngeal swabs were collected from child outpatients and inpatients in the First People’s Hospital of Huzhou from January 2017 to December 2019. RSV subtype A and B were detected by real-time fluorescence PCR. Clinical and demographic data of children were collected and analyzed. ResultsThe positive rate of RSV in the collected samples was determined to be 11.1% (206/1 856), of which the positive rate of RSV-A was 6.6% (123/1 856) and that of RSV-B was 4.5% (83/1 856). The positive rate of RSV in boys was significantly higher than that in girls (13.7% vs 8.3%,P<0.01). The positive rate in different age groups showed a downward trend (P for trend <0.01), with the highest rate in children under 1 year old [19.8% (67/339)]. Common symptoms of children with RSV infection were fever and cough. The highest positive rate of RSV was 18.9% in winter, while the lowest was 4.2% in summer, demonstrating a significant seasonal pattern (P<0.01). In addition, the positive rate of RSV-B was higher in 2017 [7.6% (50/656)], and that of RSV-A was higher in 2018 and 2019 [7.7% (45/588), 9.0% (55/612)]. ConclusionBoth subtypes of RSV are prevalent in children with acute respiratory infection in Huzhou area. Positive rate of RSV is higher in young children and in winter. It warrants strengthening the disease surveillance and prevention and control measures.

RESUMEN

The lacewing Chrysoperla sinica (Tjeder) is a common natural enemy of many insect pests in China and is frequently employed for biological control programs. Adults make migratory flights after emergence, which reduces their effectiveness as biological control agents. Previously, we proved that 2-d-old unmated females exhibited significantly stronger flight ability than 3-d-old ones. Meanwhile, 3-d-old unmated adults flew significantly longer distances than mated ones. In this study, Illumina RNA sequencing was performed to characterize differentially expressed genes (DEGs) between virgin and mated adults of different ages in a single female strain of C. sinica. In total, 713,563,726 clean reads were obtained and de novo assembled into 109,165 unigenes with an average length of 847 bp (N50 of 1,754 bp), among which 4,382 (4.01%) unigenes matched known proteins. Based on these annotations, many putative transcripts were related to C. sinica's flight capacity and muscle structure, energy supply, growth, development, environmental adaptability, and metabolism of nutritional components and bioactive components. In addition, the differential expression of transcripts between different ages and mating status were analyzed, and DEGs participating in flight capacity and muscles were detected, including glutathione hydrolase, NAD-specific glutamate dehydrogenase, aminopeptidase, and acidic amino acid decarboxylase. The DEGs with functions associated with flight capacity and muscles exhibited higher transcript levels for younger (2 d--old) virgins. This comprehensive C. sinica transcriptomic data provide a foundation for a better understanding of the molecular mechanisms underlying the flight capacity to meet the physiological demands of flight muscles in C. sinica.

RESUMEN

Objective:To observe the effects of the periodontal subgingival scaling in different stages of standardized residency training of stomatology general medicine. Methods:Thirty residents in Affiliated Stomatology Hospital of Zhejiang University School of Medicine were recruited by stratified randomization and divided into three groups, including 1-month group, 3-month group and 6-month group. The residual ratio of clinical calculus was compared after periodontal subgingival scaling among groups. SPSS 23.0 was conducted for Kruskal-Wallis H test. Results:The mean residual ratio of clinical calculus in 3-month group and 6-month group were significantly lower than that in the 1-month group. In the 3-month group, the scaling could only achieve the effective results at the shallow pockets and anterior tooth area. Compared with the 1-month group, the 6-month group significantly decreased the residual ratio of clinical calculus for the sites with pocket depth of 4-6 mm, but there were still insufficiency to deal with the posterior tooth area. Conclusion:The 3-6 months residency training of periodontology could improve the effectiveness of the periodontal subgingival scaling. We should establish reasonable assessment and evaluation system according to different stages of residents, and the subgingival scaling training in the posterior areas and the distal interproximal sites should be reinforced in order to more effectively improve the quality of the standardized residency training.

RESUMEN

The Dioryctria yiai belongs to Pyralidae in Lepidoptera. The complete mitogenome of D. yiai was described in this study, which is typical circular duplex molecules and 15,430 bp in length, containing the standard metazoan set of 13 protein-coding genes, 22 transfer RNA genes, 2 ribosomal RNA genes, and an A + T-rich region. The gene order is same with other lepidopterans. Except for cox1 started with CGA, all other PCGs started with the standard ATN codons. Most of the PCGs terminated with the stop codon TAA, whereas cox2 has the incomplete stop codon T. The phylogenetic tree showed that D. yiai and other six species belong to Phycitinae, are clustered into a clade.

RESUMEN

We experimentally demonstrate a bendable cloaking structure composed of obliquely stacked planar metallic shells that individually enclose the objects to be hidden. The ensemble of shells acts as a disordered oblique grating capable of bending along a curved structure and exhibits broadband invisibility from 0.2 to 1.0 THz. Hiding cloaked objects sized hundreds of microns could prevent the detection of certain powders that are sensitive to terahertz waves; such a cloaking structure can also be considered as a shape-changing passageway that transfers the electromagnetic waves without interfering with them. Our approach provides a unique way to achieve broadband electromagnetic invisibility.
