RESUMEN

Hydrogen-bonded organic frameworks (HOFs) are a kind of crystalline porous material that have shown great potential for photocatalysis on account of their mild synthesis conditions and high crystallinity. Perylene-based photocatalysts have great potential for photocatalytic H2O2 production due to their excellent photochemical stability and broad spectral absorption. In this work, we designed and synthesized a high crystalline perylene-based HOF (PTBA) and an amorphous analog sample PTPA for photocatalytic H2O2 evolution. Under visible light irradiation, PTBA shows a higher photocatalytic H2O2 production rate of 2699 µmol g-1 h-1 than PTPA (2176 µmol g-1 h-1) and an apparent quantum yield (AQY) of 2.96% at 500 nm. The enhanced photocatalytic performance of PTBA is attributed to the promotion of the separation and transfer of photocarriers due to its high crystallinity. This work provides a precedent for the application of HOFs in the field of photocatalytic H2O2 generation.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Streptococcus dysgalactiae subsp. dysgalactiae has been identified as an animal pathogen that is thought to occur only in animal populations. Between 2009 and 2022, humans infected with SDSD were reported rarely. There is a lack of details on the natural history, clinical features, and management of disease caused by this pathogen. This case outlines a human SDSD with muscle aches and progressive loss of muscle strength leading to immobility and multi-organ dysfunction syndrome. CASE PRESENTATION: She presented with muscle pain and weakness, and later developed a sore throat, headache and fever with a maximum temperature of 40.5 °C. The muscle strength of the extremities gradually decreased to grade 1 and the patient was unable to move on his own. Next-generation blood sequencing and multi-culture confirmed the presence of Streptococcus dysgalactiae and Streptococcus dysgalactiae subsp. Dysgalactiae, respectively. A Sequential Organ Failure Assessment score of 6 indicated septicemia, and therapeutic antibiotics were prescribed empirically. After 19 days of inpatient treatment, the patient's condition greatly improved and completely recovered within a month. CONCLUSION: Symptoms of Streptococcus dysgalactiae subsp. dysgalactiae presenting with progressive limb weakness resemble polymyositis, so a precise differential diagnosis is essential. Multidisciplinary consultation is helpful when polymyositis cannot be ruled out and facilitates the choice of an optimal treatment protocol. In the context of this case, penicillin is an effective antibiotic for Streptococcus dysgalactiae subsp. dysgalactiae infection.

RESUMEN

The blood-brain barrier (BBB) permeability of molecules needs to meet stringent requirements of Lipinski's rule, which pose a difficulty for the rational design of efficient chelating agents for Parkinson's disease chelation therapy. Therefore, the iron chelators employed N-aliphatic alcohols modification of deferiprone were reasonably designed in this work. The chelators not only meet Lipinski's rule for BBB permeability, but also ensure the iron affinity. The results of solution thermodynamics demonstrated that the pFe3+ value of N-hydroxyalkyl substituted deferiprone is between 19.20 and 19.36, which is comparable to that of clinical deferiprone. The results of 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl radical scavenging assays indicated that the N-hydroxyalkyl substituted deferiprone also possesses similar radical scavenging ability in comparison to deferiprone. Meanwhile, the Cell Counting Kit-8 assays of neuron-like rat pheochromocytoma cell-line demonstrated that the N-hydroxyalkyl substituted deferiprone exhibits extremely low cytotoxicity and excellent H2O2-induced oxidative stress protection effect. These results indicated that N-hydroxyalkyl substituted deferiprone has potential application prospects as chelating agents for Parkinson's disease chelation therapy strategy.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate efficacy of tuberculosis control policy and provide scientific evidence for drawing up tuberculosis control program. METHODS: Data of the epidemiological survey for tuberculosis in Sichuan in 2000 were analyzed and part of the results were compared with that before. RESULTS: The prevalence of active pulmonary tuberculosis, the bacteriological positive prevalence and smear positive prevalence of pulmonary tuberculosis in 2000 were 544/100 000, 250/100 000 and 144/100 000, respectively, decreased by 41.8%, 30.0% and 35.0% respectively in comparison with 1990, and the annual reduction rates were 5.3%, 3.5% and 4.2% respectively during the past 10 years. The mortality of tuberculosis and pulmonary tuberculosis was 24/100 000 and 22/100 000, respectively, decreased by 20.0% and 12.0% respectively in comparison with 1990. The prevalence of tuberculosis in minority area and mountainous area were higher than that in city, countryside and hills. 71% of infectious patients were newly detected, 33.3% of which were re-treatment cases. The economic status was found the key factor affecting the implementation of tuberculosis control. CONCLUSIONS: The modern tuberculosis control strategy, which mainly targeted infectious patients and advocated DOTS policy, is the guarantee of sustainable development of tuberculosis control, though the prevalence of pulmonary tuberculosis decreased slowly in Sichuan during the past 10 years.
