RESUMEN

Developing effective electrocatalysts for the nitrate reduction reaction (NO3RR) is a promising alternative to conventional industrial ammonia (NH3) synthesis. Herein, starting from a flexible laser-induced graphene (LIG) film with hierarchical and interconnected macroporous architecture, a binder-free and free-standing Ru-modified LIG electrode (Ru-LIG) is fabricated for electrocatalytic NO3RR via a facile electrodeposition method. The relationship between the laser-scribing parameters and the NO3RR performance of Ru-LIG electrodes is studied in-depth. At -0.59 VRHE, the Ru-LIG electrode exhibited the optimal and stable NO3RR performance (NH3 yield rate of 655.9 µg cm-2 h-1 with NH3 Faradaic efficiency of up to 93.7%) under a laser defocus setting of +2 mm and an applied laser power of 4.8 W, outperforming most of the reported NO3RR electrodes operated under similar conditions. The optimized laser-scribing parameters promoted the surface properties of LIG with increased graphitization degree and decreased charge-transfer resistance, leading to synergistically improved Ru electrodeposition with more exposed NO3RR active sites. This work not only provides a new insight to enhance the electrocatalytic NO3RR performance of LIG-based electrodes via the coordination with metal electrocatalysts as well as identification of the critical laser-scribing parameters but also will inspire the rational design of future advanced laser-induced electrocatalysts for NO3RR.

RESUMEN

Laser-induced Fe3O4 nanoparticle-modified three-dimensional macroporous graphene is fabricated as a near-infrared light responsive nanozyme via a facile and in situ laser-scanning method under ambient conditions for the first time, showing an excellent catalytic-photothermal synergetic bactericidal ability under a low dose of H2O2 (0.1 mM) and short irradiation time (5.0 min).

RESUMEN

In view of the shortage of structural defect monitoring methods for deep submersibles, numerical simulation and experimental research on underwater SAW propagation based on interdigital transducers are carried out in this paper. PVDF interdigital transducer (PVDF-IDT) has shown considerable potential in the application of structural health monitoring because of its micro size, soft material characteristics, and the characteristics of long-term bonding on the surface of the tested structure. In order to realize the application of IDT on submersible or underwater structures, it is necessary to understand the influence of underwater environment on IDTs with different structures. The underwater attenuation of IDT with 2-5 mm wavelength and the underwater attenuation of Lamb (A0 mode) wave on a 4 mm thick titanium alloy plate is obtained through COMSOL software simulation. The experimental verification shows that the simulation results match with the actual situation, which proves that COMSOL software can accurately calculate the acoustic attenuation of surface waves at the solid-liquid interface. At the same time, the underwater attenuation of IDT with different structures is very different, providing important design parameters for the underwater interdigital transducer. In this paper, it is found that the Lamb wave has significant advantages over the Rayleigh wave in the health monitoring of underwater thin plate structures.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the possible effects of long-term exposure to dust containing thorium and thoron progeny on dust-exposed miners. METHODS: A negative, high voltage, exhaled thoron progeny measurement system was used to estimate the miners' thorium lung burden. RESULTS: The highest thorium lung burden of 638 miners was 11.11 Bq. The incidence of stage 0(+) pneumoconiosis was higher among dust-exposed miners. Lung cancer mortality of the dust-exposed miners was significantly higher than that of controls (P < 0.005). CONCLUSION: There is a difference in cancer rates between those who have long-term exposure to dust containing thorium (in which carcinogenic ThO(2) and SiO(2) exist) and thoron progeny and those who have not.
