RESUMEN

INTRODUCTION: Typhoid fever is a common disease in Yunnan province; however, the resistant phenotype and epidemic characteristics of Salmonella in this area are still unclear. In this study, a 15-year surveillance of antimicrobial susceptibility of Salmonella is reported. METHODOLOGY: From January 1999 to December 2013, Salmonella isolates were recovered from patients in the First People's Hospital of Yunnan Province. Antimicrobial susceptibility was detected and data were analyzed using WHONET5.6. RESULTS: A total of 845 Salmonella isolates were recovered between 1999 and 2013. The most frequently isolated Salmonella serovar was S. Paratyphi A (93%), and 75.1% (635/845) of the isolates were from the young and middle-aged population. The resistance rates of Salmonella spp. to ciprofloxacin, ampicillin, and ceftriaxone increased dramatically during the 15 years. Carbapenems retained the highest and most stable activity against isolates. The resistance rates of all Salmonella isolates to chloramphenicol and sulfamethoxazole were 0.4% (3/845) and 1.8% (15/845), respectively. CONCLUSIONS: As Salmonella isolates have been observed to be resistant to first-line antibiotics, antimicrobial agents should be used rationally and prescriptions should be based on case-by-case susceptibility testing.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE:To screen and analyze the ?-lactamases-resistant genes in imipenem-resistant pseudomonas aeruginosa (IMPRPa). METHODS: ?-lactamases-resistant genes including IMP,VIM and OprD2 in 60 clinically isolated IMPRPa strains were detected by polymerase chain reaction (PCR),and sequence analysis was performed on the PCR amplified products of some of IMP and VIM genes. RESULTS: Of the 60 IMPRPa strains,?-lactamases-resistant positive genes were as follows: IMP gene was positive in 7 strains,VIM gene was positive in 18 strains, and both IMP and VIM genes were positive in 3 strains. Sequencing of the PCR products of IMP and VIM genes were IMP-1 and VIM-2 types, and OprD2 gene deletion was noted in 29 strains. CONCLUSION: OprD2 protein channel deletion and metal-producing ?-lactamases are the chief mechanisms for the resistance of IMPRPa to imipenem.

RESUMEN

Objective To investigate the trend of omtibacterial resistance rate of Acinetobater baumannii in our hospital from Jan.2000 to Jun.2005,and for the guidance of rational use of antibacterials. Methods A.baumannii strain was isolated and tested by K-B method from clinical samples and antibiotic resistance was analyzed and studied retrospectively. Results There was an elevated tendency of the resistance rates to common antibacterial in A baumanii for past six years. The resistance rate to imipenem was the lowest (3.6%) and to amikacin, cefoperazone/sulbactam was 29.5%-77.4%.Conclusion The resistance rates to common the antibacterial in A.baumanii are high and the resistance pattern is wide. It is important to select antibiotics according to the antibiotics sensitivity in vitro.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: There is a major increase in endogenous zinc excretion, specifically via the mammary gland, in early human lactation. Whereas fractional absorption of dietary zinc has been reported to increase in early human lactation, it is not known to what extent adaptive mechanisms may maintain zinc homeostasis, especially when dietary zinc intake is relatively low. OBJECTIVE: The objective of this study was to quantitate major variables of zinc homeostasis during early lactation in subjects from a population whose habitual dietary zinc intake is low. DESIGN: We studied 18 free-living lactating women from a rural community of northeast China whose infants were exclusively breast-fed. The subjects were studied at approximately 2 mo of lactation with use of stable isotopes of zinc and metabolic collection techniques. Milk volume was measured with use of a deuterium enrichment method. RESULTS: The mean (+/-SD) secretion of zinc in milk was 2.01 +/- 0.97 mg/d, the intake of zinc was 7.64 +/- 1.61 mg/d, and the fractional absorption of zinc was 0.53 +/- 0.09, for a total daily zinc absorption of 4.00 +/- 0.71 mg/d. Endogenous zinc excretion in urine and feces was 0.30 +/- 0.10 and 1.66 +/- 0.97 mg/d, respectively. CONCLUSIONS: Zinc balance, including zinc secreted in breast milk, was maintained at approximately 2 mo of lactation in women whose habitual diet was low in zinc. Homeostasis was achieved by high fractional absorption of zinc and intestinal conservation of endogenous fecal zinc.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE:To investigate the change in drug resistance of pseudomonas aeruginosa to imipenem bewteen Jan.2000and Jun.2005in the hospital where the authors work in order to provide the reference for rational choice of antibac-terials in clinic.METHODS:158strains of imipenem resistant pseudomonas aeruginousa had been isolated in clinic and their drug sensitivity to antibacterials was tested by KB slip diffusion method and analyzed statistically.RESULTS:Meropenem, amikacin, and ceftazidime were among the antibacterials that kept high antibacterial activity and had resistance rates less than35%included.CONCLUSIONS:Imipenem resistant pseudomonas aeruginosa strain has stronger resistance to commonly used antibacterials and its multidrug resistance is more severe.Rational use of antibacterials can help to control and lessen the drug resistance of bacteria.
