RESUMEN

A novel gliding bacterial strain, GB 56.1T, was obtained from soil at the Sakaerat Biosphere Reserve, in Nakhon Ratchasima province, Thailand; the strain was characterized using a polyphasic approach. Cells were Gram-stain-negative, yellow, rod shaped and devoid of flagella, but showed gliding motility. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences found that GB 56.1T was a member of the genus Flavobacterium and that the strain shared the highest sequence similarities with Flavobacterium nitrogenifigens (98.4 %), Flavobacterium anhuiense(98.3 %) and Flavobacterium ginsenosidimutans (97.9 %). The similarities of the sequences of all other species of the genus Flavobacterium were below 97.4 %. The major respiratory quinone of strain GB 56.1T was MK-6; fatty acids were iso-C15:0, C16:1ω6c/C16:1ω7c, C16:0 and C16:0 3-OH. The major polar lipids were phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylserine, an unidentified amino lipid and four polar lipids. The DNA G+C content of this strain was 34.2 mol%. The DNA-DNA relatedness of GB 56.1T was highest against F.anhuiense, with a value of 37.6 %. On the basis of morphological, physiological and chemotaxonomic characteristics, DNA-DNA hybridization relatedness and 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis, we conclude that strain GB 56.1T represents a novel species, for which the name Flavobacterium tistrianum sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is GB 56.1T (=TISTR 1612T =KCTC 42679T).

RESUMEN

Several independent surveys of yeasts associated with different plant materials and soil led to the proposal of a novel yeast species belonging to the Tremellales clade (Agaricomycotina, Basidiomycota). Analysis of the sequences of the D1/D2 domains and internal transcribed spacer region of the large subunit of the rRNA gene suggested affinity to a phylogenetic lineage that includes Hannaella coprosmaensis, Hannaella oryzae and Hannaella sinensis. Thirty-two isolates were obtained from different sources, including bromeliads, nectar of Heliconia psittacorum (Heliconiaceae), flowers of Pimenta dioica (Myrtaceae), roots and leaves of sugar cane (Saccharum spp.) in Brazil, leaves of Cratoxylum maingayi, Arundinaria pusilla and Vitis vinifera in Thailand, soil samples in Taiwan, and prairie soil in the USA. Sequence analysis of the D1/D2 domains of the large subunit of the rRNA gene showed that the novel species differs from Hannaella coprosmaensis and Hannaella oryzae by 36 and 46 nt substitutions, respectively. A novel species is suggested to accommodate these isolates, for which the name Hannaella pagnoccae sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is BI118(T) ( = CBS 11142(T) = ATCC MYA-4530(T)).

RESUMEN

The distinction and monophyletic property of the basidiomycetous yeast species in the Bulleribasidium clade of the order Tremellales was resolved by molecular phylogenetic analysis based on the combined sequences of the 18S rRNA gene, internal transcribed spacer (ITS) region including 5.8S rRNA gene and 26S rRNA gene D1/D2 domain. The addition to the clade of new anamorphic species identified among ballistoconidium-forming yeasts isolated from China confirmed and strengthened the separation of this clade from other clades or lineages in the order Tremellales. A new anamorphic genus, Mingxiaea gen. nov. (type species Mingxiaea variabilis comb. nov.) is therefore proposed to accommodate the anamorphic species in the Bulleribasidium clade. Six new combinations are proposed for the described species of this clade which were formerly assigned to the genus Bullera. Four novel species in the new genus were identified among 16 ballistoconidium-forming yeast strains isolated from plant leaves collected in Hainan province, southern China, by D1/D2 and ITS sequence analyses. The novel species are described as Mingxiaea sanyaensis sp. nov. (type strain SY-3.23(T) =AS 2. 3623(T) =CBS 11408(T)), Mingxiaea hainanensis (type strain WZS-8.13(T) =AS 2.4161(T) =CBS 11409(T)), Mingxiaea foliicola (type strain WZS-8.14(T) =AS 2.3518(T) =CBS 11407(T)) and Mingxiaea wuzhishanensis (type strain WZS-29.8(T) =AS 2.4163(T) =CBS 11411(T)).

RESUMEN

Seven strains of ballistoconidiogenous yeasts that contain xylose, form Q-10 ubiquinone, propagate by budding and don't produce stalk conidia were isolated from plant leaves collected in Thailand and were found to represent two new species. The taxonomic properties of the two species coincided with the genus Bullera so they are described as Bullera koratensis sp. nov. and Bullera lagerstroemiae sp. nov. In phylogenetic trees based on the nucleotide sequences of 18S ribosomal DNA and the D1/D2 domain of 26S rDNA, these two species are located in the Trichosporonales clade (Cryptococcus humicola-Trichosporon lineage).

RESUMEN

One yeast strain characterized by the proliferation of non-ballistosporous stalked conidia, budding cells and ballistoconidia, the presence of xylose in whole-cell hydrolysates, the presence of Q-10 as the major ubiquinone isoprenologue, the inability to ferment sugars and positive diazonium blue B (DBB) and urease reactions was isolated from a plant sample collected in a tropical rain forest in Thailand. The isolate clustered with Kockovaella species in the 18S rDNA-based tree. On the basis of the morphological, biochemical and molecular phylogenetic characteristics, the isolate was assigned to the genus Kockovaella. DNA complementarity experiments showed that the isolate was genetically distinct from known species of the genus Kockovaella. The isolate is described as Kockovaella barringtoniae sp. nov. The type strain is strain TY-278T (= JCM 10998T = TISTR 5770T).
