RESUMEN

Long-duration gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) are powerful cosmic explosions, signaling the death of massive stars. Among them, GRB 221009A is by far the brightest burst ever observed. Because of its enormous energy (Eiso ≈ 1055 erg) and proximity (z ≈ 0.15), GRB 221009A is an exceptionally rare event that pushes the limits of our theories. We present multiwavelength observations covering the first 3 months of its afterglow evolution. The x-ray brightness decays as a power law with slope ≈t-1.66, which is not consistent with standard predictions for jetted emission. We attribute this behavior to a shallow energy profile of the relativistic jet. A similar trend is observed in other energetic GRBs, suggesting that the most extreme explosions may be powered by structured jets launched by a common central engine.

Objective. To evaluate the prevalence of impostor phenomenon in student pharmacists and faculty members at two educational institutions in the United States.Methods. Participants anonymously completed an electronic self-report survey instrument that included the validated Clance Impostor Phenomenon Scale (CIPS) from April 2020 to May 2020. Demographic data including age range, gender, and other characteristics were collected. The Clance Impostor Phenomenon Scale scores were reported as means (SDs), and data were compared between institutions and demographic groups using t tests.Results. The overall mean CIPS survey score (N=209, 35.5% response rate) was 63.8 (SD=15.1). The mean student pharmacist CIPS score for Northeast Ohio Medical University (NEOMED) was 64.7 (SD=14.4) vs 63.8 (SD=16.1) for Sullivan University College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (SUCOPHS), which was statistically similar. Mean faculty CIPS score for NEOMED was 59.2 (SD=14.0) vs 64.7 (SD=16.8) for SUCOPHS, which was statistically similar. Mean CIPS score for the combined student pharmacist group (NEOMED and SUCOPHS) was 64.3 (SD=15.1) vs 61.2 (SD=15.1) for the combined group of faculty members, which was statistically similar. Overall, most respondents fell in the "moderate" to "frequent" CIPS score classification range (36.4% and 44%, respectively).Conclusion. Impostor phenomenon feelings were common among responding student pharmacists and faculty members at the institutions surveyed; however, little is known about the implications of these findings. Future research should seek to elucidate factors predictive of or associated with impostor phenomenon as well as assess the impact of strategies to prevent or manage impostor phenomenon.

Native myocardium has limited regenerative potential post injury. Advances in lineage reprogramming have provided promising cellular sources for regenerative medicine in addition to research applications. Recently we have shown that adult mouse fibroblasts can be reprogrammed to expandable, multipotent, induced cardiac progenitor cells (iCPCs) by employing forced expression of five cardiac factors along with activation of canonical Wnt and JAK/STAT signaling. Here we aim to further characterize iCPCs by highlighting their safety, ease of attainability, and functionality within a three-dimensional cardiac extracellular matrix scaffold. Specifically, iCPCs did not form teratomas in contrast to embryonic stem cells when injected into immunodeficient mice. iCPC reprogramming was achieved in wild type mouse fibroblasts without requiring a cardiac-specific reporter, solely utilizing morphological changes to identify, clonally isolate, and expand iCPCs, thus increasing the versatility of this technology. iCPCs also show the ability to repopulate decellularized native heart scaffolds and differentiated into organized structures containing cardiomyocytes, smooth muscle, and endothelial cells. Optical mapping of recellularized scaffolds shows field-stimulated calcium transients that propagate across islands of reconstituted tissue and bipolar local stimulation demonstrates cell-cell coupling within scaffolds. Overall, iCPCs provide a readily attainable, scalable, safe, and functional cell source for a variety of application including drug discovery, disease modeling, and regenerative therapy.

RESUMEN

This paper describes a patient who presented with mania with psychotic features in the context of concomitant use of S-adenosyl-L-methionine (SAMe) and selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI). The aim of this case report is to provide medical practitioners with a greater awareness of the possibility of a psychotic episode and/or mania manifesting with concurrent use of SAMe and SSRI.

RESUMEN

A fully relativistic treatment of Bernstein waves in an electron-positron pair plasma has remained too formidable a task, owing to the very complex nature of the problem. In this paper, we perform contour integration of the dielectric-response function and numerically compute the dispersion curves for a uniform magnetized relativistic electron-positron pair plasma. The behavior of the dispersion solution for several cases with different plasma temperatures is highlighted. In particular, we find two wave modes that exist only for large wavelengths and frequencies similar to the cyclotron frequency in a moderately relativistic pair plasma. The results presented here have important implications for the study of those objects where a hot magnetized electron-positron plasma plays a fundamental role in generating the observed radiation.
