RESUMEN

Terminal ileostomy is at present less frequently performed in favour of the use of surgical techniques which allow for the maintenance of continence. The problem of long-term metabolic complications is still open, though it has been stated that 1 year postoperatively, the life expectancy of ileostomy patients is similar to that of the general population. The series here reported consists of 13 patients only, however the increased risk of cholelithiasis and urolithiasis in ileostomy patients can be confirmed (15.4% in this study). These complications should be carefully examined in the follow-up of patients: while cholelithiasis cannot be prevented, for early diagnosis liver scanning every 24-36 months is advisable. As for urolithiasis, the patients should be encouraged to drink large amounts of water daily. Water does not cause an increase in ileostomy output while allowing a satisfactory renal flow. For early diagnosis direct abdominal X-ray with renal tomography every 24-36 months is suggested. In case of suspected kidney or ureteral stones, perfusion urography should be performed.

RESUMEN

A hemoperfusion column containing anionic exchange resin coated with a new polymer has been tested in vivo for blood compatibility. The hemocoagulative parameters, evaluated before and after the cartridge during hemoperfusion, did not show any significant alteration even as regards the number and the functionality of the platelets nor as regards a possible activation of the fibrinolysis process. On the basis of these results, the hemoperfusion system examined can be regarded as hemocompatible from the hemocoagulative standpoint.

RESUMEN

Peroxidase-positive and negative lymphoid hemoblasts present in Catfish kidney were measured, in order to verify whether large lymphoid hemoblasts give rise to the granulocytic leukocytes and small lymphoid hemoblasts give rise to the erythrocytes, thrombocytes and lymphocytes. The cytometric study indicates that granulocytic cells arise prevalently by large and intermediate sized hemoblasts, but also by small hemoblasts. The other cells arise prevalently by small and intermediated sized hemoblasts and by large ones as well. Two different types of hemoblasts were distinguished but not on the basis of their size.
