RESUMEN

Ectopic decidual reaction of the peritoneum and the omentum is rare. It is usually an incidental finding during caesarean section and it could mimick macroscopically peritoneal carcinomatosis or tuberculosis. Histology is very important to make diagnosis. Ectopic decidual reaction is physiological, with an excellent prognosis and spontaneous resolution. We report one case of ectopic peritoneal and omental deciduosis of the peritoneum and discovered incidently during caesarian section. Definitive diagnosis was done by immunohistological examination. A laparoscopy four months later showed complete and spontaneous regression of all lesions.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: The aim of this study was to assess changes in the incidence and mortality rates of malignant melanoma (MM) over a 20-year period in a region without a cancer registry. METHODS: All cases of MM studied were collected retrospectively from the databases of six private and three hospital-based histopathology laboratories in the Seine-Maritime region covering three 24-month periods each 10years apart: 1988-1989, 1998-1999 and 2008-2009, The incidence and mortality rates were estimated based on data provided by French National Institute for Statistics and Economic Studies (Insee) and French National Institute of Health and Medical Research (Inserm). RESULTS: Over the 20-year period, the incidence of MM increased from 8.6 to 21.2/100,000inhabitants per year (+147%, P<0.0001) while the mortality rate rose from 1.3 to 2.8/100,000inhabitants per year (+115%, P=0.0003). The incidence of invasive MM increased by +110%, while the incidence of MM in situ increased by +456%. The incidence and overall mortality rate of invasive MM increased particularly during the first 10-year period: +62% (P<0.0001) and +77% (P=0.01) respectively, and to a much lesser extent during the last 10-year period: +30% (P=0.0007) and +22% (P=0.22) respectively. This slowdown in the incidence of invasive MM and in overall mortality rates was even more pronounced in women over the last 10years (+17 and +9%), whereas these rates continued to increase in men (+49% and +35%, respectively). In contrast, the incidence of MM in situ increased above all during this same period (+257%). CONCLUSION: This study shows that while the incidence and mortality rate of invasive MM has increased little over the last 10years in the Seine-Maritime region, the incidence of MM in situ continues to rise sharply.

RESUMEN

The S-100 protein was localized by immunocytochemistry in 70 pituitary tumors including 30 prolactin, 16 growth hormone, two corticotropin and 22 non-functioning adenomas. Positive immunostaining was observed in only one case (prolactin adenoma). It is concluded that in functioning and non-functioning pituitary tumors there is no particular involvement of S-100 protein-containing cells, at least under the conditions of this study.

RESUMEN

Among 190 human pituitary adenomas investigated, 140 contained arterial blood vessels (nearly 75 percent). In 160 adenomas (PRL-, GH-secreting or nonfunctioning tumors) arterial vessels were present in 80 to 90 percent of the cases, whereas in 30 corticotropic adenomas (Cushing's disease), 5 only contained arterial vessels. According to data of the literature and to our own findings, such vessels should originate from the anterior pituitary itself or from the surrounding structures (trabecular, interlobar, capsular arteries). This arterial blood supply could appear even at the microadenoma stage and increase as the tumor growths. Consequently, the blood from portal origin will be diluted or excluded, so that tumor cells would escape from hypothalamic control.

RESUMEN

The anti-inflammatory activity of fusafungin may be demonstrated in guinea-pig, with use of morphological methods. Indeed, edema and congestion of the lamina propria of the trachea, break of cilia of the respiratory epithelium, which are witness of inflammation induced by acrolein, do not appear after treatment by fusafungin. However, the cellular phenomenons of inflammation do persist.
