RESUMEN

Owing to the enhanced toxicity as well as consequences of allopathic medication, the research on herbal therapies is developing progressively. As a result, medicinal herbs are beginning to play a substantial role in the advancement of the dominant therapeutic medications. Since ancient times, the use of herbs has performed a vital part in human well-being as well in the invention of cutting-edge pharmaceuticals. Inflammation and related illnesses are a major health concern for the entire human population. Pain-inducing drugs including opiates, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, glucocorticoids, and corticosteroids have severe side effects and these therapies suffer from the recurrence of symptoms too after discontinuing the treatment. As a result, the diagnosis along with the advancement of medications with anti-inflammatory properties is the priority to conquer the drawbacks of the existing therapies. The present review article provides insight into the literature comprising promising phytochemicals from various medicinal plants tested through different model systems and employed for alleviating inflammation in several inflammatory disorders as well as clinical status of the herbal products.

RESUMEN

The aim of this review was to discuss an overview of type 2 diabetes; biology of PTP1B; role of PTP1B in metabolic disorders; and recent updates in the development of PTP1B inhibitors reported in literature since 1994. In this study, extensive literature search was carried out on PTP1B inhibitors of natural as well as synthetic origin in various scientific databases and research articles related to discovery of PTP1B inhibitors were selected for this study. Protein tyrosine phosphatase 1B (PTP1B) is an important therapeutic target for several human diseases including type 2 diabetes, obesity and cancer because of its seminal part as a negative modulator in both insulin and leptin signaling pathways. A large number of molecules of broad chemical diversity were reported as potent and selective PTP1B inhibitors over other protein tyrosine phosphatases. Several of these molecules have shown their potential in the treatment of various human diseases including type 2 diabetes, obesity, inflammation and cancer in various animal models. But only a very limited number of PTP1B inhibitors (including ertiprotafib, trodusquemine and JTT-551) has entered clinical trials and are finally withdrawn owing to their unsatisfactory effectiveness and undesirable adverse effects. Consequently, it is still highly imperative and of great importance to develop potent, highly selective and safe PTP1B inhibitors.

RESUMEN

The compound 4-hydroxy-3-methoxycinnamic acid, named ferulic acid (FA), is a ubiquitous phenolic compound distributed extensively in the plant kingdom. Ferulic acid is a boon. It has immense potential therapeutic effects in treating diabetes, cancer, pulmonary and CVS diseases majorly due to its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory action. Ferulic acid exhibits a wide variety of biological activities such as, anticarcinogenic, antiallergic, antimicrobial, antiviral, hepatoprotective, metal chelation, activation of transcriptional factors, modulation of enzyme activity, gene expression as well as signal transduction. This active ingredient's structural characteristics make it an optimal substrate to form or synthesise various derivatives and its formulations. The present review addresses structure of ferulic acid, its pharmacodynamic parameters, applications, and its various derivatives. Besides, the review also aims to cover the main aspects related to the use of ferulic acid in the food and health industry and lists various published patents on Ferulic acid.
