RESUMEN

Objective To explore the surgical techniques of transsphenoidal approach neuroendoscope-assisted sella turcica tumor resection. Methods The clinical data of 71 patients who had underwent transsphenoidal approach neuroendoscope-assisted sella turcica tumor resection were retrospectively analyzed. Results Among the 71 patients, pituitary tumors was in 67 cases (including recurrent pituitary tumors 4 cases), and Rathke cysts in 4 cases. A total of 54 cases had gross total resection, 10 cases had near total resection, and 7 cases had subtotal resection. Some patients had postoperative complications, including transient diabetes insipidus in 16 cases, refractory hyponatremia in 2 cases, cerebrospinal rhinorrhea in 1 case, hypothyroidism in 1 case, rhinorrhagia and synechia nasal in 1 case, hyposmia in 4 cases, and perioperative cerebral infarction in 1 case. There was no surgery related death. After 3 months' follow- up, 12 cases were found to have nasal mucosa atrophy. Conclusions The transsphenoidal approach neuroendoscope-assisted sella turcica tumor resection is safe and effective, with less serious complications, but the complications of nasal cavity should not be ignored.

RESUMEN

We evaluated the effect of Paris saponin on inhibition of cervical cancer in mice and on immune regulation in tumor-bearing mice. MTT assay was used to examine the effect of Paris saponin on U14 cell proliferatiosn in vitro; the ascites tumor model of U14 cervical cancer was established to observe the effect of Paris saponin on inhibition of the tumor and on survival time of mice; and serum IL-4 and IFN-γ levels in tumor-bearing mice were detected. The Paris saponin showed significant inhibitory effect on growth of cervical cancer U14 cells both in vitro and in vivo, prolonged the survival time of mice, increased the serum IFN-γ level of tumor-bearing mice, and reduced the serum IL-4 level. The Paris saponin can inhibit U14 cell growth and prolong survival time of mice; it is speculated that the Paris saponin may express its anti-tumor activity by improving the body's immune system.

RESUMEN

Objective To investigate the radiosensitization of artesunate on nude mouse transplanted with HeLa cells, and to explore its possible mechanisms. Methods HeLa cells were inoculated into the nude mice to establish tumor model.Mice were randomly divided into 4 groups as blank control, artesunate group, radiation group and artesunate + radiation group when average volume of tumor were about 5 mm × 5 mm× 5 mm.During the term of treatment, the volume of tumors were measured every 2days.After 14 days treatment, the mice were killed and tumor tissues were harvested for flow cytometry to detect the alteration of cell cycle.Meanwhile, the pathological change of the tumor tissue was observed with HE staining method, and the change of expression of cycle regulatory protein Cyclin B1,Cdc2 and Wee1 were detected by Western blot. Results The growth of tumor was significantly inhibited by artesunate combined with radiation and its inhibition rate was 72.34%.Flow cytometry results showed that the percent of cells in G1 phase increased and G2 phase decreased in the artesunate + radiation group compared with those in irradiation group ( t =4.41,4.12,P < 0.05 ).The expression level of Cyclin B1 was obviously increased while that of Wee1 decreased in the artesunate + radiation compared with irradiation group. There was no difference in the expression of Cdc2 among the four groups. Conclusions Artesunate can dramatically increase the radiosensitivity of transplanted tumor of HeLa cells. The possible mechanism might be related to the decreasing G2 phase by regulating the expression of Cyclin B1 and Wee1.
