RESUMEN

In a Hungarian city a special oral health survey concerning prosthetic status, oral mucosa and temporo-mandibular joint condition of the elderly population has been performed by standardized methods. The most frequent prosthetic finding was the removable prosthetic appliance (denture). It is suggested, that the number of dentures should be decreased with higher priority for the preservation of natural dentition and it should be achieved to change the dentures at proper intervals among denture-wearing patients. The prevalence of temporo-mandibular joint function-disturbances was low. In order to diagnose earlier the praecancerous lesions and conditions a regular oral health survey at least once a year among the people above 55 years of age should be organized.

RESUMEN

We performed a 'random sampling' oral health survey in a Hungarian city among the elderly population. This examination was a part of an International Standard Research. The most important result of this survey is, the high number of toothless and edentulous persons. Therefore, the demand for periodontal and restorative treatment is unimportant from the point of view of epidemiology. We emphasize, that it is very important to save the remains of dentition by improvement of personal ral hygiene, regular scaling and crown or bridgework in addition to prosthetic rehabilitation.

RESUMEN

As there is a variety of psychic and somatic variables in its genesis, the writer's cramp could be a syndrome of different subtypes. Therefore 62 former psychotherapy-patients with writer's cramp were examined according to a design of several dimensions in order to find out if there were any subtypes. The parts of the examination were exploration, structural interview, neurological examination, psychological examination of the personality, examination of some electrolytes in serum and radiograph of neck spinal column. Different multivariate statistical methods isolated two subtypes of patients with writer's cramp. The first group comprises patients with fine and/or big dysfunctions of motor activity, the symptoms are independent of psychic factors or of psychotherapy. The second group is characterized of a monosymtomatic writer's cramp, of a neurosis and of remissions of motoric symptoms following psychotherapy. The examination shows that fine and/or big dysfunctions of motor activity which often co-occur the writer's cramp are important criteria for differential diagnosis and indications.

RESUMEN

Oculocardiac reflex (OCR) is a frequently occurring complication in eye operations. It is a trigemino-vagal reflex characterised by the clinical occurrence of bradycardia and other cardiac rhythm disturbances following manipulations on the eye and its surroundings especially after traction of the external eye muscles. In this paper based on an analysis of 402 anaesthesia records, a bradycardia frequency (f = less than 60/min) of 31.8% was noted while other rhythm disturbances occurred in 5.7%. Predisposition facts were identified as age over 50, hypertension and cardiac diseases requiring medication with cardiac drugs. The frequency of OCR is considerably lowered by diabetes mellitus. Examination of 159 traction measurements made at the lateral rectus muscle revealed that the first manipulation made at the rectus bulbi superior muscle resulted in a statistically significantly stronger reflex activity than at the other muscles. In a further series of investigations in which rectus bulbi superior muscle was tested last, this muscle again showed the biggest frequency deviation. Only determination of the percentage heart rate decrease is suitable for characterising reflex activity. The frequency of the reflex occurring in our study was 71.7%, the result being reduced by the high proportion of diabetics, who are relatively reflex insensitive.

RESUMEN

In 20 patients a free way space of greater than or equal to 1.0 mm and a cuspid protected guidance was formed. A previous study has shown, that prematurity and defective contacts reduce the free way space step by step and induce an artificial clenching. The front teeth was relieved in intercuspal position. The increase sof gingival recessions at the upper jaw was over five times significant slighter in treated patients than one in the 22 men of the control group. There was no significant, differences in the lower jaw. The recessions are represented as a sequence of a chronic biomechanical overloading.

RESUMEN

A modified selfobservation test by Schulte enable us to differ parafunction quantitative as qualitative. By means of it were stated, toothclenching is induced by a missing or insufficient free way space on a large scale. Clenching could be reduced by occlusal adjustment and reconstruction significant about 45 percent. The free way space ought to be greater than or equal to 1 mm. The test is suitable for controlled treatment of temporomandibular joint and myofascial disorders. It could substitute electromyograms in outpatients, Toothclenching dominate with 85 percent before grinding with 27 percent in patients with wedge shaped defects.

RESUMEN

This paper represents studies on the molecular basis of G6PD deficiency in erythrocytes of 4 hemizygote patients. In all cases G6PD deficiency was due to an abnormal kinetic and (or) physico-chemical characteristics of the mutant enzymes. Two of 4 variants were characterized as G6PD EL Fayoum like (unstable, class 2). The other two are new variants: G6PD Tashkent (low Ki by NADPH, class 3) and G6PD Nukus (Km for G6P 127 microM, class 2). For the new mutant Gd(-) stable variants the amount of G6PD in total red cell population found immunologically was similar to the normal level. Stimulation of the pentose phosphate pathway (PPP) of G6PD Nucus erythrocytes insignificantly increased the rate of glucose consumption while in the case of G6PD Tashkent methylene blue raised the rate of PPP to half of the maximal rate of stimulated normal red cells.

RESUMEN

34 persons with G-6-PD deficiency were diagnosed, and the pathological enzyme-variants of red blood cells were characterized according to the recommendations of WHO. We conclude from the differing residual G-6-PD-activities in red blood cells of the propositi and the differing reactivity of the enzyme in kinetic and physicochemical characterizations that a multiple variety of rare pathological G-6-PD variants exists in the GDR. Using the estimated enzymeparameters it was not possible in all cases to compare directly the newly demonstrated G-6-PD variants with cases already described in the literature. In addition, the differing combinations of parameters render a classification more difficult.
