RESUMEN

The electrocatalytic reduction of NO2- (NO2RR) holds promise as a sustainable pathway to both promoting the development of emerging NH3 economies and allowing the closing of the NOx loop. Highly efficient electrocatalysts that could facilitate this complex six-electron transfer process are urgently desired. Herein, tremella-like CoNi-LDH intercalated by cyclic polyoxometalate (POM) anion P8W48 (P8W48/CoNi-LDH) prepared by a simple two-step hydrothermal-exfoliation assembly method is proposed as an effective electrocatalyst for NO2- to NH3 conversion. The introduction of POM with excellent redox ability tremendously increased the electrocatalytic performance of CoNi-LDH in the NO2RR process, causing P8W48/CoNi-LDH to exhibit large NH3 yield of 0.369 mmol h-1 mgcat-1 and exceptionally high Faradic efficiency of 97.0% at -1.3 V vs the Ag/AgCl reference electrode in 0.1 M phosphate buffer saline (PBS, pH = 7) containing 0.1 M NO2-. Furthermore, P8W48/CoNi-LDH demonstrated excellent durability during cyclic electrolysis. This work provides a new reference for the application of POM-based nanocomposites in the electrochemical reduction of NO2- to obtain value-added NH3.

Photothermal therapy is favored by cancer researchers due to its advantages such as controllable initiation, direct killing and immune promotion. However, the low enrichment efficiency of photosensitizer in tumor site and the limited effect of single use limits the further development of photothermal therapy. Herein, a photo-responsive multifunctional nanosystem was designed for cancer therapy, in which myeloid-derived suppressor cell (MDSC) membrane vesicle encapsulated decitabine-loaded black phosphorous (BP) nanosheets (BP@ Decitabine @MDSCs, named BDM). The BDM demonstrated excellent biosafety and biochemical characteristics, providing a suitable microenvironment for cancer cell killing. First, the BDM achieves the ability to be highly enriched at tumor sites by inheriting the ability of MDSCs to actively target tumor microenvironment. And then, BP nanosheets achieves hyperthermia and induces mitochondrial damage by its photothermal and photodynamic properties, which enhancing anti-tumor immunity mediated by immunogenic cell death (ICD). Meanwhile, intra-tumoral release of decitabine induced G2/M cell cycle arrest, further promoting tumor cell apoptosis. In vivo, the BMD showed significant inhibition of tumor growth with down-regulation of PCNA expression and increased expression of high mobility group B1 (HMGB1), calreticulin (CRT) and caspase 3. Flow cytometry revealed significantly decreased infiltration of MDSCs and M2-macrophages along with an increased proportion of CD4+, CD8+ T cells as well as CD103+ DCs, suggesting a potentiated anti-tumor immune response. In summary, BDM realizes photothermal therapy/photodynamic therapy synergized chemotherapy for cancer.

Communication between tumors and lymph nodes carries substantial significance for antitumor immunotherapy. Remodeling the immune microenvironment of tumor-draining lymph nodes (TdLN) plays a key role in enhancing the anti-tumor ability of immunotherapy. In this study, we constructed a biomimetic artificial lymph node structure composed of F127 hydrogel loading effector memory T (TEM) cells and PD-1 inhibitors (aPD-1). The biomimetic lymph nodes facilitate the delivery of TEM cells and aPD-1 to the TdLN and the tumor immune microenvironment, thus realizing effective and sustained anti-tumor immunotherapy. Exploiting their unique gel-forming and degradation properties, the cold tumors were speedily transformed into hot tumors via TEM cell supplementation. Meanwhile, the efficacy of aPD-1 was markedly elevated compared with conventional drug delivery methods. Our finding suggested that the development of F127@TEM@aPD-1 holds promising potential as a future novel clinical drug delivery technique. STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE: F127@TEM@aPD-1 show unique advantages in cancer treatment. When injected subcutaneously, F127@TEM@aPD-1 can continuously supplement TEM cells and aPD-1 to tumor draining lymph nodes (TdLN) and the tumor microenvironment, not only improving the efficacy of ICB therapy through slow release, but also exhibiting dual regulatory effects on the tumor and TdLN.

Scorodites are commonly used for arsenic immobilization, and it is also the main component of arsenic bearing tailings. Alkali-activated geopolymers are commonly used to landfill arsenic-bearing minerals. However, there no previous studies have explored the interaction between geopolymer molecules and the surface of scorodite. In this paper, Si(OH)4 as a monomer molecule of geopolymer, the mechanism of adsorption and 'ion exchange' between Si(OH)4 molecule and the surface of scorodite during alkali-activation is studied. Results show that the Fe-terminated scorodite (010) surface has high stability. Si(OH)4 are more easily adsorbed on the hollow site of an Fe-terminated scorodite (010) surface, which is described as chemisorption. Compared with Si(OH)4, NaOH is easier to adsorb on an Fe-terminated scorodite (010) surface. The co-adsorption of NaOH and Si(OH)4 on the Fe-terminated scorodite (010) surface was studied, and also belongs to chemical adsorption. When the hydroxyl binds to the As atom, the adsorbed Si(OH)4 is more likely to undergo an 'ion exchange' reaction with the surface, and the reaction is barrierless. The intermediate As(OH)4 produced by the 'ion exchange' reaction can be deprotonated to form an arsenate molecule, which can occur spontaneously. This work reveals that the interaction mechanism of geopolymer molecules on surface of scorodite.

Auxin regulates plant growth and development through downstream signaling pathways, including the best-known SCFTIR1/AFB-Aux/IAA-ARF pathway and several other less characterized "noncanonical" pathways. Recently, one SCFTIR1/AFB-independent noncanonical pathway, mediated by Transmembrane Kinase 1 (TMK1), was discovered through the analyses of its functions in Arabidopsis apical hook development. Asymmetric accumulation of auxin on the concave side of the apical hook triggers DAR1-catalyzed release of the C-terminal of TMK1, which migrates into the nucleus, where it phosphorylates and stabilizes IAA32/34 to inhibit cell elongation, which is essential for full apical hook formation. However, the molecular factors mediating IAA32/34 degradation have not been identified. Here, we show that proteins in the CYTOKININ INDUCED ROOT WAVING 1 (CKRW1)/WAVY GROWTH 3 (WAV3) subfamily act as E3 ubiquitin ligases to target IAA32/34 for ubiquitination and degradation, which is inhibited by TMK1c-mediated phosphorylation. This antagonistic interaction between TMK1c and CKRW1/WAV3 subfamily E3 ubiquitin ligases regulates IAA32/34 levels to control differential cell elongation along opposite sides of the apical hook.

The macroporous anion exchange chromatographic medium (FastSep-PAA) was prepared through grafting polyallylamine (PAA) onto polyacrylate macroporous microspheres (FastSep-epoxy). The effects of the synthesis conditions, including the PAA concentration, reaction time, and reaction solution pH, on the ion exchange (IC) of the medium were investigated in detail. When the PAA concentration, reaction time, and reaction solution pH were increased, the IC of the medium increased, and optimal synthesis conditions were then selected in combination with changes of protein binding capacity. A scanning electron microscope was used to examine the surface morphology of the medium. The medium possessed high pore connectivity. Furthermore, the pore structure of the medium was preserved after the grafting of PAA onto the macroporous microspheres. This finding demonstrates that the density of the PAA ligands does not appear to have any discernible impact on the structure of the medium; that is, no difference in the structure of the medium is observed before and after the grafting of PAA onto the microspheres. The pore size and pore-size distribution of the medium before and after grafting were determined by mercury intrusion porosimetry and the nitrogen adsorption method to investigate the relationship between pore size (measured in the range of 300-1000 nm) and protein adsorption. When the pore size of the medium was increased, its protein binding capacity did not exhibit any substantial decrease. An increase in pore size may hasten the mass transfer of proteins within the medium. Among the media prepared, that with a pore size of 400 nm exhibited the highest dynamic-binding capacity (DBC: 70.3 g/L at 126 cm/h). The large specific surface area of the medium and its increased number of protein adsorption sites appeared to positively influence its DBC. When the flow rate was increased, the protein DBC decreased in media with original pore sizes of less than 700 nm. In the case of the medium with an original pore size of 1000 nm, the protein DBC was independent of the flow rate. The protein DBC decreased by 3.5% when the flow rate was increased from 126 to 628 cm/h. In addition, the protein DBC was maintained at 57.7 g/L even when the flow velocity was 628 cm/h. This finding reveals that the diffusion rate of protein molecules at this pore size is less restricted and that the prepared medium has excellent mass-transfer performance. These results confirm that the macroporous polymer anion exchange chromatographic medium developed in this study has great potential for the high-throughput separation of proteins.

BACKGROUND: Osimertinib is regarded as a promising third-generation epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI) for advanced non-squamous non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients who developed T790M. However the adverse effects, primarily fatigue, remain an overwhelming deficiency of Osimertinib, hindering it from achieving adequate clinical efficacy for such NSCLC. Ganoderma lucidum has been used for thousands of years in China to combat fatigue, while Ganoderma Lucidum spores powder (GLSP) is the main active ingredient. The aim of this study is to investigate whether GLSP is sufficiently effective and safe in improving fatigue and synergizing with Osimertinib in non-squamous NSCLC patients with EGFR mutant. METHOD/DESIGN: A total of 140 participants will be randomly assigned to receive either de-walled GSLP or placebo for a duration of 56 days. The primary outcome measure is the fatigue score associated with EGFR-TKI adverse reactions at week 8, evaluated by the Chinese version of the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) Quality of Life Questionnaire for Cancer Patients (QLQ-C30). Secondary outcomes include evaluation of treatment effectiveness, assessment of quality of life (QoL), and exploration of immune indicators and gut microbiota relationships. Following enrollment, visits are scheduled biweekly until week 12. TRIAL REGISTRATION: China Clinical Trial Registry ChiCTR2300072786. Registrated on June 25, 2023.

The occurrence and development of human diseases are influenced by both genetic and environmental factors. Research models that describe disease occurrence only from the perspective of genetics present certain limitations. In recent years, effects of environment factors on the occurrence and development of diseases have attracted extensive attentions. Exposomics focuses on the measurement of all exposure factors in an individual's life and how these factors are related to disease development. Exposomics provides new ideas to promote studies on the relationship between human health and environmental factors. Environmental exposures are characterized with different physical and chemical properties, as well as very low concentrations in vivo, which contribute great challenges in the comprehensive measurement of chemical residues in the human body. Chromatography-mass spectrometry-based technologies combine the high-efficiency separation ability of chromatography with the high resolution and sensitive detection characteristics of mass spectrometry; the combination of these techniques can achieve the high-coverage, high-throughput, and sensitive detection of environmental exposures, thus providing a powerful tool for measuring chemical exposures. Exposomics-analysis methods based on chromatography-mass spectrometry mainly include targeted quantitative analysis, suspect screening, and non-targeted screening. To explore the relationship between environmental exposure and the occurrence and development of diseases, researchers have developed research paradigms, including exposome wide association study, mixed-exposure study, exposomics and multi-omics (genome, transcriptome, proteome, metabolome)-association study, and so on. The emergence of these methods has brought about unprecedented developments in exposomics studies. In this manuscript, analytical methods based on chromatography-mass spectrometry, exposomics research paradigms, and their relevant prospects are reviewed.

Background This research aims to study the diagnostic patterns, anatomical locations, and age-related trends in pediatric clavicular lesions, filling a gap in pediatric-specific data for these conditions. Methodology A retrospective study of 20 pediatric patients (aged ≤14 years) with clavicular lesions was conducted based on inclusion and exclusion criteria emphasizing confirmed diagnosis and treatment specifics. The diagnostic process relied on open biopsy, followed by excision or curettage and histopathological examination. Results The study primarily involved patients with an average age of 7.1 ± 3.8 years. Eosinophilic granuloma was the most common diagnosis (30% of cases), particularly in the age group of 0-3 years. Clavicular lesions predominantly manifested as either a palpable lump or localized swelling with pain. The medial of the clavicle was the most frequent lesion location. No malignant tumors were found, and the functional outcomes post-treatment were satisfactory. Conclusions Pediatric clavicular lesions exhibit distinct diagnostic and anatomical characteristics compared to adults. Eosinophilic granuloma is significantly prevalent in early childhood, necessitating age-specific diagnostic and therapeutic approaches. The study advocates for multidisciplinary collaboration in the treatment and improved understanding of these lesions, which are vital for pediatric orthopedic oncology.

An increasing percentage of people in China are suffering from osteoporosis, particularly postmenopausal osteoporosis (PMOP), as the country rapidly evolves into an aging culture. Patients with osteoporosis are inclined to endure fractures, as well as deformities and impairments, which drastically decrease people's quality of life. The benefits of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) treatment have continued to become increasingly apparent as reports of adverse responses to Western medications increased. The main advantage of traditional Chinese medicine treatment is that pharmacological interactions may be employed to lessen adverse effects while increasing therapeutic efficacy. In addition, there are various exercise therapies created by medical doctors in the past generations, such as: Wuqinxi, Taijiquan, Baduanjin, Yijinjing, etc. Chinese medicine and exercise treatment for postmenopausal osteoporosis have garnered a lot of attention recently both domestically and internationally, and investigations demonstrate that these therapies have considerable therapeutic effects. The pathophysiology of postmenopausal osteoporosis, advancements of herbal therapy options, and exercise treatment options are all thoroughly addressed in this article.

Quantum Griffiths phase (QGP) is a novel quantum phenomenon of quantum phase transition in two-dimensional (2D) superconductors, and the emergence of inhomogeneous superconducting rare regions immersed in a metallic matrix is theoretically related to the quantum Griffiths singularity (QGS). However, the theoretical proposal of superconducting rare regions still lacks intuitive experimental verification. Here, we construct an artificial ordered superconducting-islands-array on monolayer graphene with the aid of an anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) membrane. The QGS under both in-plane and out-of-plane magnetic fields is evidenced by the divergent dynamical critical exponent and is in compliance with the direct activated scaling behavior. The phase diagram clearly shows that the QGP is indeed bred in the rare superconducting regions within isolated superconducting islands with a vanished quantum coherence. Our results reveal the universal features of QGP in artificial heterostructured systems and provide a visualized platform for the theoretical proposal of QGS.

Metabolic associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) is a common liver disease with a prevalence of up to 25%; it not only adversely affects human health but also aggravates the economic burden of society. An increasing number of studies have suggested that the occurrence of chronic noncommunicable diseases is affected by both environmental exposures and genetic factors. Research has also shown that environmental pollution may increase the risk of MAFLD and promote its occurrence and development. However, the relationship between these concepts, as well as the underlying exposure effects and mechanism, remains incompletely understood. Lipidomics, a branch of metabolomics that studies lipid disorders, can help researchers investigate abnormal lipid metabolites in various disease states. Lipidome-exposome wide association studies are a promising paradigm for investigating the health effects of cumulative environmental exposures on biological responses, and could provide new ideas for determining the associations between metabolic and lipid changes and disease risk caused by chemical-pollutant exposure. Hence, in this study, targeted exposomics and nontargeted lipidomics studies based on ultra-high performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (UHPLC-MS/MS) and ultra-high performance liquid chromatography-high resolution mass spectrometry (UHPLC-HRMS) were used to characterize exogenous chemical pollutants and endogenous lipid metabolites in the sera of patients with MAFLD and healthy subjects. The results demonstrated that fipronil sulfone, malathion dicarboxylic acid, and monocyclohexyl phthalate may be positively associated with the disease risk of patients diagnosed as simple fatty liver disease (hereafter referred to as MAFLD(0)). Moreover, fipronil sulfone, acesulfame potassium, perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), perfluorononanoic acid (PFNA), perfluoroundecanoic acid (PFUnDA), 4-hydroxybenzophenone, and 3,5-di-tert-butyl-4-hydroxybenzoic acid (DBPOB) may be positively associated with the disease risk of patients diagnosed as fatty liver complicated by single or multiple metabolic disorders. Association analysis was carried out to explore the lipid metabolites induced by chemical residues. Triglyceride (TG) and diglyceride (DG) were significantly increased in MAFLD and MAFLD(0). The numbers of carbons of significantly changed DGs and TGs were mainly in the ranges of 32-40 and 35-60, respectively, and both were mainly characterized by changes in polyunsaturated lipids. Most of the lipid-effect markers were positively correlated with chemical residues and associated with increased disease risk. Our research provides a scientific basis for studies on the association and mechanism between serum chemical-pollutant residues and disease outcomes.

The clinical application of cancer immunotherapy is unsatisfied due to low response rates and systemic immune-related adverse events. Microwave hyperthermia can be used as a synergistic immunotherapy to amplify the antitumor effect. Herein, we designed a Gd-based metal-organic framework (Gd-MOF) nanosystem for MRI-guided thermotherapy and synergistic immunotherapy, which featured high performance in drug loading and tumor tissue penetration. The PD-1 inhibitor (aPD-1) was initially loaded in the porous Gd-MOF (Gd/M) nanosystem. Then, the phase change material (PCM) and the cancer cell membrane were further sequentially modified on the surface of Gd/MP to obtain Gd-MOF@aPD-1@CM (Gd/MPC). When entering the tumor microenvironment (TME), Gd/MPC induces immunogenic death of tumor cells through microwave thermal responsiveness, improves tumor suppressive immune microenvironment and further enhances anti-tumor ability of T cells by releasing aPD-1. Meanwhile, Gd/MPC can be used for contrast-enhanced MRI. Transcriptomics data revealed that the downregulation of MSK2 in cancer cells leads to the downregulation of c-fos and c-jun, and ultimately leads to the apoptosis of cancer cells after treatment. In general, Gd/MPC nanosystem not only solves the problem of system side effect, but also achieves the controlled drug release via PCM, providing a promising theranostic nanoplatform for development of cancer combination immunotherapy.

Polylactic acid (PLA) has attracted much attention in bone tissue engineering due to its good biocompatibility and processability, but it still faces problems such as a slow degradation rate, acidic degradation product, weak biomineralization ability, and poor cell response, which limits its wider application in developing bone scaffolds. In this study, Mg(OH)2 nanoparticles were employed as a versatile nanofiller for developing PLA/Mg(OH)2 composite bone scaffolds using fused deposition modeling (FDM) 3D printing technology, and its mechanical, degradation, and biological properties were evaluated. The mechanical tests revealed that a 5 wt% addition of Mg(OH)2 improved the tensile and compressive strengths of the PLA scaffold by 20.50% and 63.97%, respectively. The soaking experiment in phosphate buffered solution (PBS) revealed that the alkaline degradation products of Mg(OH)2 neutralized the acidic degradation products of PLA, thus accelerating the degradation of PLA. The weight loss rate of the PLA/20Mg(OH)2 scaffold (15.40%) was significantly higher than that of PLA (0.15%) on day 28. Meanwhile, the composite scaffolds showed long-term Mg2+ release for more than 28 days. The simulated body fluid (SBF) immersion experiment indicated that Mg(OH)2 promoted the deposition of apatite and improved the biomineralization of PLA scaffolds. The cell culture of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) indicated that adding 5 wt% Mg(OH)2 effectively improved cell responses, including adhesion, proliferation, and osteogenic differentiation, due to the release of Mg2+. This study suggests that Mg(OH)2 can simultaneously address various issues related to polymer scaffolds, including degradation, mechanical properties, and cell interaction, having promising applications in tissue engineering.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE@#To investigate the clinical effect of modified suspension reduction method combined with percutaneous vertebroplasty in the treatment of osteoporotic thoracolumbar compression fractures.@*METHODS@#From February 2020 to October 2021, 92 patients with thoracolumbar osteoporotic compression fracture were treated by percutaneous vertebroplasty. According to different treatment methods, they were divided into the observation group and the control group. The observation group was treated with modified suspension reduction and then percutaneous vertebroplasty, while the control group was treated with percutaneous vertebroplasty alone. The observation group (47 cases), including 20 males and 27 females, the age ranged from 59 to 76 years old with an average of (69.74±4.50) years old, fractured vertebral bodies:T10(2 cases), T11(7 cases), T12(19 cases), L1(14 cases), L2(5 cases);the control group(45 cases), including 21 males and 24 females, the age ranged from 61 to 78 years old with an average of (71.02±3.58) years old, fractured vertebral bodies:T10(3 cases), T11(8 cases), T12(17 cases), L1(12 cases), L2(5 cases);The leakage of bone cement were observed, the visual analogue scale (VAS), Oswestry lumbar dysfunction index (ODI), anterior vertebrae height (AVH), Cobb angle of kyphosis and the amount of bone cement injected before and after operation were recorded and compared between the two groups.@*RESULTS@#All patients were followed up, ranged from 6 to10 with an average of (8.45±1.73) months. Two patients ocurred bone cement leakage in observation group and 3 patients in control group. AVH of observation group increased (P<0.05) and Cobb angle of injured vertebrae decreased (P<0.05). Cobb angle of injured vertebrae and AVH of the control group were not significantly changed (P>0.05). Cobb angle of injured vertebrae of the observation group was lower than that of control group (P<0.05) and AVH was higher than that of the control group (P<0.05). In the observation group, VAS before operation and 1 week, 3 and 6 months after operation respectively were(7.32±1.05) scores, (3.56±1.18) scores, (1.83±0.67) scores, (1.27±0.34) scores, and ODI were(40.12±14.69) scores, (23.76±10.19) scores, (20.15±6.39) scores, (13.45±3.46) scores. In the control group, VAS before operation and 1 week, 3 and 6 months after operation respectively were(7.11±5.26) scores, (3.82±0.68) scores, (1.94±0.88) scores, (1.36±0.52) scores, and ODI were(41.38±10.23) scores, (25.13±14.22) scores , (20.61±5.82) scores, (14.55±5.27) scores . The scores of VAS and ODI after operation were lower than those before operation (P<0.05), but there was no significant difference between the two groups (P<0.05).@*CONCLUSION@#Modified suspension reduction method combined with PVP surgery for osteoporotic thoracolumbar compression fractures has achieved good clinical results, which can effectively relieve lumbar back pain, restore vertebral height, correct kyphosis, improve lumbar function and patients' quality of life.

BACKGROUND: In adults with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, renal enlargement and acute kidney injury occur infrequently at first presentation, especially in T lymphocytic lymphomas. CASE PRESENTATION: We report three cases of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma with acute renal injury and bilateral renal enlargement. At diagnosis, one patient presented with an adrenal mass, one patient's lymph node biopsy was consistent with a renal biopsy, and one patient had primary renal lymphoma with no extrarenal disease. Assessment of renal pathology in Case 2 and Case 3 showed interstitial lymphocyte infiltration; the pathological types were non-Hodgkin's diffuse large B lymphoma originating from activated B cells outside germinal centers and non-Hodgkin's T-lymphoblastic lymphoma/leukemia, respectively. Case 1 did not receive anti-lymphoma therapy and died from infection and multiple organ failure within 1 month of hospitalization. Case 2 received eight courses of R-CHOP; her lymphoma recurred 2 years after diagnosis and she died from severe pulmonary infection 3 years after diagnosis. Case 3 received hyper-CVAD regularly and achieved stable renal function; this patient remains under follow-up. CONCLUSIONS: Renal lymphoma may have diverse manifestations, especially primary renal lymphoma without extrarenal involvement. Nephrologists should pay careful attention to these manifestations to ensure accurate diagnosis.

Objective: To determine sex differences in the prevalence of depression and assess the risk factors for depression among adult patients with epilepsy from the Dali area of China. Methods: We retrospectively analyzed the clinical data of adult patients with epilepsy who visited the First Affiliated Hospital of Dali University from January 2017 to January 2022. Patient Health Questionnaire-9 was used to assess depressive symptoms in patients with epilepsy. The risk factors of depression were analyzed by binary logistic regression among different sex in patients with epilepsy. Results: There were significant sex differences in depression in patients with epilepsy (p < 0.001), and females were 4.27 times more likely to suffer from depression than males (95% confidence interval: 3.70-4.92). The risk factors for depression among female patients with epilepsy included occupation (p < 0.001), years with epilepsy (p < 0.001), seizure frequency (p < 0.001), seizure type (p < 0.001), etiology (p < 0.001), number of antiseizure medications used (p < 0.001), antiseizure medications (p < 0.001), and electroencephalogram findings (p < 0.001). The risk factors for depression among male patients with epilepsy included age (p < 0.001), ethnicity (p < 0.001), occupation (p < 0.001), years with epilepsy (p < 0.001), seizure frequency (p < 0.001), seizure type (p < 0.001), etiology (p < 0.001), number of antiseizure medications used (p < 0.001), antiseizure medications (p < 0.001), and electroencephalogram findings (p < 0.001). Conclusion: Adult female patients with epilepsy had a higher risk of depression than adult male patients with epilepsy. There were sex differences in the risk factors associated with depression among patients with epilepsy.

Extranodal natural killer/T-cell lymphoma (NKTCL) is an aggressive type of lymphoma associated with Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) and characterized by heterogeneous tumor behaviors. To better understand the origins of the heterogeneity, this study utilizes single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) analysis to profile the tumor microenvironment (TME) of NKTCL at the single-cell level. Together with in vitro and in vivo models, the study identifies a subset of LMP1+ malignant NK cells contributing to the tumorigenesis and development of heterogeneous malignant cells in NKTCL. Furthermore, malignant NK cells interact with various immunocytes via chemokines and their receptors, secrete substantial DPP4 that impairs the chemotaxis of immunocytes and regulates their infiltration. They also exhibit an immunosuppressive effect on T cells, which is further boosted by LMP1. Moreover, high transcription of EBV-encoded genes and low infiltration of tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs) are favorable prognostic indicators for NKTCL in multiple patient cohorts. This study for the first time deciphers the heterogeneous composition of NKTCL TME at single-cell resolution, highlighting the crucial role of malignant NK cells with EBV-encoded LMP1 in reshaping the cellular landscape and fostering an immunosuppressive microenvironment. These findings provide insights into understanding the pathogenic mechanisms of NKTCL and developing novel therapeutic strategies against NKTCL.
