RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: The present study aims to compare the efficacy and side effects of a platinum-containing combination regimen and platinum single-drug concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CCRT) in patients with advanced cervical cancer (CC) and to understand the prognostic factors in patients with CC. METHODS: A total of 108 cases of CC treated in Wenzhou Central Hospital were retrospectively selected. Patients in the monotherapy (single-drug) group received external pelvic radiotherapy (RT) and platinum-based single-drug chemotherapy (CT). Patients in the combined group received external pelvic RT and platinum-containing CT. The efficacy, CCRT time, 3-year survival rate after treatment and side effects were compared between the two groups, and the prognostic factors were analysed. RESULTS: The total effective rate was 74.07% in the monotherapy group and 72.22% in the combined group (p = .828). The incidences of myelosuppression, gastrointestinal reaction and abnormal liver function in the grades III-IV combined group were significantly higher than those in the monotherapy group (p < .001; p = .236; p = .022). Furthermore, the CCRT time was significantly longer in the combined group than in the monotherapy group, and the 3-year overall survival (OS) was 81.48% in the monotherapy group and 79.63% in the combined group (p = .643; p = .808). The older the age was, the higher the serum squamous cell carcinoma antigen (SCC-Ag) value before treatment and the shorter the progression-free survival time. In addition, the older the adenocarcinoma (AC) was, the shorter the OS. CONCLUSION: The efficacy of the two regimens in the treatment of advanced CC was similar. However, the side effects increased significantly during combined treatment. PROGNOSTIC FACTORS: A higher patient age, having an AC and stage of IIIa and a high SCC-Ag value before treatment resulted in a relatively low survival rate.

Empirical findings suggested that anhedonia, a reduced capability to access pleasure and a core symptom in both schizophrenia and the major depressive disorder, can be present in people with high levels of social anhedonia and people with subsyndromal depression. Few studies have adopted a multidimensional framework to investigate anhedonia in these subclinical samples. We recruited 35 participants with high social anhedonia (SA), 53 participants with subsyndromal depression (SD), 20 participants with co-occurrence of both traits (CO), and 47 participants with low levels of both traits (CN) to complete a self-report questionnaire capturing the pleasure experience, and the Monetary Incentives Delay (MID) Task and the Social Incentives Delay (SID) Task capturing the motivation of reward. Results indicated that people with SA, SD and CO exhibited lower abstract anticipatory pleasure compared to CN. Moreover, people with SD and CO exhibited specific impairment in response to social incentives. Together, our findings characterized the multidimensional features of anhedonia performances of subclinical samples with SA, SD and CO, which may contribute to the formulation of early identification of at-risk groups.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Parent artery atherosclerosis is an important aetiology of recent subcortical ischaemic stroke (RSIS). However, comparisons of RSIS with different degrees of parent artery atherosclerosis are lacking. METHODS: Prospectively collected data from our multicentre cohort (all were tertiary centres) of the Stroke Imaging Package Study between 2015 and 2017 were retrospectively reviewed. The patients with RSIS defined as a single clinically relevant diffusion-weighted imaging positive lesion in the territory of lenticulostriate arteries were categorized into three subgroups: (1) normal middle cerebral artery (MCA) on magnetic resonance angiography and high-resolution magnetic resonance imaging (HR-MRI); (2) low-grade MCA atherosclerosis (normal or <50% stenosis on magnetic resonance angiography and with MCA plaques on HR-MRI); (3) steno-occlusive MCA atherosclerosis (stenosis ≥50% or occlusion). The primary outcome was 90-day functional dependence (modified Rankin Scale score >2). The clinical and imaging findings were compared between subgroups. RESULTS: A total of 239 patients (median age 60.0 [52.0-67.0] years, 72% male) were enrolled, including 140 with normal MCA, 64 with low-grade MCA atherosclerosis and 35 with steno-occlusive MCA atherosclerosis. Patients with steno-occlusive MCA atherosclerosis had the largest infarct volume. Low-grade MCA atherosclerosis was independently associated with cerebral microbleeding, more severe perivascular spaces in basal ganglia and higher total cerebral small vessel disease burden. Low-grade MCA atherosclerosis was an independent determinant of 90-day functional dependence (odds ratio 3.897; 95% confidence interval 1.309-11.604). CONCLUSIONS: Our study suggested RSIS with varying severity of parent artery atherosclerosis exhibits distinctive clinical and neuroimaging characteristics, with low-grade MCA atherosclerosis associating with higher cerebral small vessel disease burden and worse prognosis.

BACKGROUND: Previous studies suggested an association between cataract surgery and retinal vascular occlusion. However, the association may be attributable to detection bias because postoperative monitoring may be more frequent for those who receive cataract surgery than for those who do not. DESIGN: Population-based cohort study using target trial emulation framework. METHODS: We included patients with cataract aged 50 years and older receiving cataract surgery or non-surgical interventions identified from the Taiwan National Health Insurance Research Database between 2003 and 2018, matched by propensity score. The primary outcome was retinal vascular occlusion. Cox proportional hazards models were used to compare surgery and control groups. Additional analyses were restricted to patients who had undergone fundoscopic examination within 6 months prior to cataract surgery to address the issue of detection bias. RESULTS: We included 577,129 cataract surgery and control pairs. We found the hazard ratio (HR) for retinal vascular occlusion after cataract surgery was 1.23 (95% confidence interval (CI): 1.17-1.29), compared with the control group. Secondary outcome analyses yielded similar results for retinal artery occlusion (HR: 1.13, 95% CI: 1.02-1.26) and retinal vein occlusion (HR: 1.26, 95% CI: 1.20-1.33). However, no risk of retinal vascular occlusion was observed among patients who had received fundoscopic examinations (HR: 1.06, 95% CI: 0.98-1.15) at baseline. CONCLUSIONS: Our study underscored the importance of conducting complete baseline fundoscopic examinations before cataract surgery to clarify whether postoperative conditions are due to patients' underlying diseases or unintended complications of cataract surgery.

Uncertainty of distributed photovoltaic(PV) power brings great challenges to the safe and stable operation of power system, in which the intermittency problem is more challenging than the fluctuation. This paper focuses on the intermittency problem of distributed PV power, firstly, an intermittency evaluation method based on generalized extreme value(GEV) theory is proposed to solve the problem of the lack of "small-sample big-gap" events. Secondly, focusing on high risk events such as high-frequency and warning mutation events, probabilistic evaluation indexes were established, including T-hour-period mutation intensity and T-hour-period mutation frequency. Finally, a two-dimensional joint probability distribution of intermittency elements is established, and the concepts of return period and return level are introduced into the photovoltaic field to provide data support for the configuration of energy storage capacity and duration, and to provide auxiliary decision-making for the execution time and development cycle of interactive projects. The proposed method provides a solution for intermittency evaluation in small sample status quo with strong data compatibility and engineering replicability.

Integrating genomics and histology for cancer prognosis demonstrates promise. Here, we develop a multi-classifier system integrating a lncRNA-based classifier, a deep learning whole-slide-image-based classifier, and a clinicopathological classifier to accurately predict post-surgery localized (stage I-III) papillary renal cell carcinoma (pRCC) recurrence. The multi-classifier system demonstrates significantly higher predictive accuracy for recurrence-free survival (RFS) compared to the three single classifiers alone in the training set and in both validation sets (C-index 0.831-0.858 vs. 0.642-0.777, p < 0.05). The RFS in our multi-classifier-defined high-risk stage I/II and grade 1/2 groups is significantly worse than in the low-risk stage III and grade 3/4 groups (p < 0.05). Our multi-classifier system is a practical and reliable predictor for recurrence of localized pRCC after surgery that can be used with the current staging system to more accurately predict disease course and inform strategies for individualized adjuvant therapy.

Humans are exposed to an ever-increasing number of environmental toxicants, some of which have gradually been identified as major risk factors for male reproductive health, even associated with male infertility. Male infertility is usually due to the reproductive system damage, which may be influenced by the exposure to contaminants such as heavy metals, plasticizers, along with genetics and lifestyle. Testicular immune microenvironment (TIM) is important in maintaining normal physiological functions of the testis, whether disturbed TIM after exposure to environmental toxicants could induce reproductive toxicity remains to be explored. Therefore, the current review aims to contribute to the further understanding of exposure and male infertility by characterizing environmental exposures and the effect on TIM. We first summarized the male reproductive toxicity phenotypes induced by common environmental pollutants. Contaminants including heavy metals and plastic additives and fine particulate matter (PM2.5), have been repetitively associated with male infertility, whereas emerging contaminants such as perfluoroalkyl substances and micro(nano)plastics have also been found to disrupt TIM and lead to male reproductive toxicity. We further reviewed the importance of TIM and its homeostasis in maintaining the normal physiological functions of the testis. Most importantly, we discussed the advances in immunology of male reproductive toxicity induced by metals and metalloids, plastic additives, persistent organic pollutants (POPs), micro(nano)plastic and PM2.5 to suggest the importance of reproductive immunotoxicology in the future study of environmental toxicants, but also contribute to the development of effective prevention and treatment strategies for mitigating adverse effects of environmental pollutants on human health.

Calcium silicate (CaSi) bone cement with antibacterial and osteogenic properties has attracted significant interest. However, there is a need to develop a variety of new premixed bone cement to meet the clinical requirements of fast setting time, ease of handling, and efficient antibacterial properties. In this study, different volume ratios of polyethylene glycol (PEG) and lactic acid liquids were added to calcium silicate, and the effects of varying liquid-to-powder ratios (L/P) were examined. This study assessed the physicochemical properties, cytotoxicity, and antibacterial activity against S. aureus and E. coli of this premixed cement. The results from the experiments indicated that lactic acid significantly reduced the setting time of the CaSi-based cement and enhanced its mechanical strength. Furthermore, the appropriate concentration of lactic acid and matching L/P ratio improved its washout resistance. The cell viability of all premixed cement was found to be over 80%. The premixed cement containing PEG and lactic acid exhibited superior antibacterial properties compared to the CaSi control. Based on its setting time, washout resistance, and antibacterial activity, a premixed cement with a liquid phase of 80% PEG and 20% lactic acid at an L/P ratio of 0.4 appeared promising for use in dental and orthopedic practice.

Wolfram syndrome is a rare genetic disease caused by mutations in the WFS1 or CISD2 gene. A primary defect in Wolfram syndrome involves poor ER Ca2+ handling, but how this disturbance leads to the disease is not known. The current study, performed in primary neurons, the most affected and disease-relevant cells, involving both Wolfram syndrome genes, explains how the disturbed ER Ca2+ handling compromises mitochondrial function and affects neuronal health. Loss of ER Ca2+ content and impaired ER-mitochondrial contact sites in the WFS1- or CISD2-deficient neurons is associated with lower IP3R-mediated Ca2+ transfer from ER to mitochondria and decreased mitochondrial Ca2+ uptake. In turn, reduced mitochondrial Ca2+ content inhibits mitochondrial ATP production leading to an increased NADH/NAD+ ratio. The resulting bioenergetic deficit and reductive stress compromise the health of the neurons. Our work also identifies pharmacological targets and compounds that restore Ca2+ homeostasis, enhance mitochondrial function and improve neuronal health.

BACKGROUND: Studies have shown that Chinese Clinicians and nurses have positive attitudes toward ACP, but no local tools exist to assess their need for ACP knowledge and skills training. resulting in their inability to initiate ACP conversations as well as poor end-of-life care for patients. Therefore, this study aims to assess the needs of Chinese Clinicians and nurses for ACP knowledge and skills training and assess the validity and reliability of a questionnaire on the Training Needs for Advance Care Planning (TNACP) scale. METHODS: From October to November 2021, 170 clinicians and nurses were pre-surveyed using a preliminary draft of the questionnaire. The responses were screened using item analysis, Cronbach's alpha coefficient, and the intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) to describe the internal consistency and stability of the questionnaire. The Content validity index (CVI), Exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) were used to test the validity of the questionnaire. RESULTS: After independent samples t-test analysis, Except for the entry "A2", the critical ratio between the two groups of the remaining 23 items was statistically significant (p < 0.05). Based on the above screening methods, the "A2" item was deleted, and the final number of questionnaire items was 23. The I-CVI was 0.79-1.00, and the S-CVI/Ave was 0.90. Three common factors were extracted-the cumulative contribution rate was 69.969%, and the factor loading of all items was 0.506-0.843 (all > 0.40). The results of confirmatory factor analysis showed that the Training Needs for Advance Care Planning (TNACP) scale model fit well(X2/df = 2.504, RMSEA = 0.092, GFI = 0.809, AGFI = 0.745, CFI = 0.931, IFI = 0.932, TLI = 0.916); the Cronbach's α = 0.888 for the total questionnaire, and the three dimensions of Cronbach's α were 0.729 to 0.959; and the ICC for the overall scores between the test-retest evaluations was 0.884 (p < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS: The TNACP scale has good reliability and validity and can be used to assess Chinese Clinicians and nurses' training needs for implementing ACP.

This study investigates individuals' adoption of containment measures (e.g., wearing masks) from the perspectives of cultural values and trust in two countries-China and the US. Distinguished from previous definitions that characterise cultural values as rigid and fixed concepts, this study reconceptualizes collectivism to be a context-sensitive construct. With survey data from a collectivism-prevalent culture (China, n = 1578) and an individualism-prevalent culture (the US, n = 1510), it unfolds the underlying mechanism by which collectivism influences people's adoption of containment measures in both countries. Results indicate that institutional trust serves as a significant mediator in this relationship. In both countries, individuals who hold a collectivistic value on the pandemic are more likely to endorse the adoption of containment measures. This endorsement is driven by their trust in public institutions, which stems from their collectivistic values. Additionally, slight distinctions emerge, revealing that collectivistic values directly predict the behaviours among Chinese individuals, whereas such a direct effect is not observed in the US. Practical implications will be offered.

SIRT4 is a member of the sirtuin family, which is related to mitochondrial function and possesses antioxidant and regulatory redox effects. Currently, the roles of SIRT4 in retinal Müller glial cells, oxidative stress, and mitochondrial function are still unclear. We confirmed, by immunofluorescence staining, that SIRT4 is located mainly in the mitochondria of retinal Müller glial cells. Using flow cytometry and Western blotting, we analyzed cell apoptosis, intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels, apoptotic and proapoptotic proteins, mitochondrial dynamics-related proteins, and mitochondrial morphology and number after the overexpression and downregulation of SIRT4 in rMC-1 cells. Neither the upregulation nor the downregulation of SIRT4 alone affected apoptosis. SIRT4 overexpression reduced intracellular ROS, reduced the BAX/BCL2 protein ratio, and increased the L-OPA/S-OPA1 ratio and the levels of the mitochondrial fusion protein MFN2 and the mitochondrial cleavage protein FIS1, increasing mitochondrial fusion. SIRT4 downregulation had the opposite effect. Mitochondria tend to divide after serum starvation for 24 h, and SIRT4 downregulation increases mitochondrial fragmentation and oxidative stress, leading to aggravated cell damage. The mitochondrial division inhibitor Mdivi-1 reduced oxidative stress levels and thus reduced cell damage caused by serum starvation. The overexpression of SIRT4 in rMC-1 cells reduced mitochondrial fragmentation caused by serum starvation, leading to mitochondrial fusion and reduced expression of cleaved caspase-3, thus alleviating the cellular damage caused by oxidative stress. Thus, we speculate that SIRT4 may protect retinal Müller glial cells against apoptosis by mediating mitochondrial dynamics and oxidative stress.

Cantharidin is a toxic defensive substance secreted by most blister beetles when attacked. It has been used to treat many complex diseases since ancient times and has recently regained popularity as an anticancer agent. However, the detailed mechanism of the cantharidin biosynthesis has not been completely addressed. In this study, we cloned McSTE24 (encoding STE24 endopeptidase) from terpenoid backbone pathway, McCYP305a1 (encoding cytochrome P450, family 305) and McJHEH [encoding subfamily A, polypeptide 1 and juvenile hormone (JH) epoxide hydrolase] associated to JH synthesis/degradation in the blister beetle Mylabris cichorii (Linnaeus, 1758, Coleoptera: Meloidae). Expression pattern analyses across developmental stages in adult males revealed that the expressions of 3 transcripts were closely linked to cantharidin titer exclusively during the peak period of cantharidin synthesis (20-25 days old). In contrast, at other stages, these genes may primarily regulate different biological processes. When RNA interference with double-stranded RNA suppressed the expressions of the 3 genes individually, significant reductions in cantharidin production were observed in males and also in females following McJHEH knockdown, indicating that these 3 genes might primarily contribute to cantharidin biosynthesis in males, but not in females, while females could self-synthesis a small amount of cantharidin. These findings support the previously hypothesized sexual dimorphism in cantharidin biosynthesis during the adult phase. McCYP305a1 collaborates with its upstream gene McSTE24 in cantharidin biosynthesis, while McJHEH independently regulates cantharidin biosynthesis in males.

BACKGROUND: Local translation at synapses is important for rapidly remodeling the synaptic proteome to sustain long-term plasticity and memory. While the regulatory mechanisms underlying memory-associated local translation have been widely elucidated in the postsynaptic/dendritic region, there is no direct evidence for which RNA-binding protein (RBP) in axons controls target-specific mRNA translation to promote long-term potentiation (LTP) and memory. We previously reported that translation controlled by cytoplasmic polyadenylation element binding protein 2 (CPEB2) is important for postsynaptic plasticity and memory. Here, we investigated whether CPEB2 regulates axonal translation to support presynaptic plasticity. METHODS: Behavioral and electrophysiological assessments were conducted in mice with pan neuron/glia- or glutamatergic neuron-specific knockout of CPEB2. Hippocampal Schaffer collateral (SC)-CA1 and temporoammonic (TA)-CA1 pathways were electro-recorded to monitor synaptic transmission and LTP evoked by 4 trains of high-frequency stimulation. RNA immunoprecipitation, coupled with bioinformatics analysis, were used to unveil CPEB2-binding axonal RNA candidates associated with learning, which were further validated by Western blotting and luciferase reporter assays. Adeno-associated viruses expressing Cre recombinase were stereotaxically delivered to the pre- or post-synaptic region of the TA circuit to ablate Cpeb2 for further electrophysiological investigation. Biochemically isolated synaptosomes and axotomized neurons cultured on a microfluidic platform were applied to measure axonal protein synthesis and FM4-64FX-loaded synaptic vesicles. RESULTS: Electrophysiological analysis of hippocampal CA1 neurons detected abnormal excitability and vesicle release probability in CPEB2-depleted SC and TA afferents, so we cross-compared the CPEB2-immunoprecipitated transcriptome with a learning-induced axonal translatome in the adult cortex to identify axonal targets possibly regulated by CPEB2. We validated that Slc17a6, encoding vesicular glutamate transporter 2 (VGLUT2), is translationally upregulated by CPEB2. Conditional knockout of CPEB2 in VGLUT2-expressing glutamatergic neurons impaired consolidation of hippocampus-dependent memory in mice. Presynaptic-specific ablation of Cpeb2 in VGLUT2-dominated TA afferents was sufficient to attenuate protein synthesis-dependent LTP. Moreover, blocking activity-induced axonal Slc17a6 translation by CPEB2 deficiency or cycloheximide diminished the releasable pool of VGLUT2-containing synaptic vesicles. CONCLUSIONS: We identified 272 CPEB2-binding transcripts with altered axonal translation post-learning and established a causal link between CPEB2-driven axonal synthesis of VGLUT2 and presynaptic translation-dependent LTP. These findings extend our understanding of memory-related translational control mechanisms in the presynaptic compartment.

RESUMEN

Theretra japonica is an important pollinator and agricultural pest in the family Sphingidae with a wide range of host plants. High-quality genomic resources facilitate investigations into behavioral ecology, morphological and physiological adaptations, and the evolution of genomic architecture. However, chromosome-level genome of T. japonica is still lacking. Here we sequenced and assembled the high-quality genome of T. japonica by combining PacBio long reads, Illumina short reads, and Hi-C data. The genome was contained in 95 scaffolds with an accumulated length of 409.55 Mb (BUSCO calculated a genome completeness of 99.2%). The 29 pseudochromosomes had a combined length of 403.77 Mb, with a mapping rate of 98.59%. The genomic characterisation of T. japonica will contribute to further studies for Sphingidae and Lepidoptera.

BACKGROUND: Extracellular matrix (ECM) remodeling in skeletal muscle is a significant factor in the development of sarcopenia. This study aims to evaluate changes in ECM remodeling in the lumbar paravertebral muscles of sarcopenic rats using diffusion-tensor magnetic resonance imaging (DT-MRI) and compare them with histology. METHODS: Twenty 6-month-old female Sprague Dawley rats were randomly divided into the dexamethasone (DEX) group and the control (CON) group. Both groups underwent 3.0T MRI scanning, including Mensa, T2WI, and DT-MRI sequences. The changes in muscle fibers and extracellular matrix (ECM) of the erector spinal muscle were observed using hematoxylineosin and sirius red staining. The expressions of collagen I, III, and fibronectin in the erector spinae were detected by western blot. Pearson correlation analysis was employed to assess the correlation between MRI quantitative parameters and corresponding histopathology markers. RESULTS: The cross-sectional area and fractional anisotropy values of the erector spinae in the DEX group rats were significantly lower than those in the CON group (p < 0.05). Hematoxylin eosin staining revealed muscle fiber atrophy and disordered arrangement in the DEX group, while sirius red staining showed a significant increase in collagen volume fraction in the DEX group. The western blot results indicate a significant increase in the expression of collagen I, collagen III, and fibronectin in the DEX group (p < 0.001 for all). Correlation coefficients between fractional anisotropy values and collagen volume fraction, collagen I, collagen III, and fibronectin were - 0.71, -0.94, -0.85, and - 0.88, respectively (p < 0.05 for all). CONCLUSIONS: The fractional anisotropy value is strongly correlated with the pathological collagen volume fraction, collagen I, collagen III, and fibronectin. This indicates that DT-MRI can non-invasively evaluate the changes in extracellular matrix remodeling in the erector spinal muscle of sarcopenia. It provides a potential imaging biomarker for the diagnosis of sarcopenia.

Black GaAs nanotip arrays (NTs) with 3300 nm lengths were fabricated via self-masked plasma etching. We show, both experimentally and numerically, that these NTs, with three gradient refractive index layers, effectively suppress Fresnel reflections at the air-GaAs interface over a broad range of wavelengths. These NTs exhibit exceptional UV-Vis light absorption (up to 99%) and maintain high NIR absorption (33-60%) compared to bare GaAs. Moreover, possessing a graded layer with a low refractive index (n = 1.01 to 1.12), they achieve angular and polarization-independent antireflection properties exceeding 80° at 632.8 nm, aligning with perfect antireflective coating theory predictions. This approach is anticipated to enhance the performance of optoelectronic devices across a wide range of applications.

The development of superlyophobic materials in liquid systems, enabling synchronous oil/water separation and dye removal from water, is highly desirable. In this study, we employed a novel superwetting array-like BiOBr nanosheets anchored on waste rock wool (RW) fibers through a simple neutralization alcoholysis method. The resulting BiOBr/RW fibers exhibited superoleophilic and superhydrophilic properties in air but demonstrated underwater superoleophobic and underoil superhydrophobic characteristics. Utilizing its dual superlyophobicity, the fiber layer demonstrated high separation efficiencies and flux velocity for oil/water mixtures by prewetting under a gravity-driven mechanism. Additionally, the novel BiOBr/RW fibers also exhibited excellent dual superlyophobicity and effective separation for immiscible oil/oil systems. Furthermore, the BiOBr/RW fibers could serve as a filter to continuously separate oil/water mixtures with high flux velocity and removal rates (>93.9%) for water-soluble dye rhodamine B (RhB) simultaneously by directly activating peroxymonosulfate (PMS) in cyclic experiments. More importantly, the mechanism of simultaneous oil/water separation and RhB degradation was proposed based on the reactive oxygen species (ROS) quenching experiments and electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) analysis. Considering the simple modified process and the waste RW as raw material, this work may open up innovative, economical, and environmentally friendly avenues for the effective treatment of wastewater contaminated with oil and water-soluble pollutants.

Cervical cancer is a significant public health concern, particularly in low- and middle-income countries where resources for prevention and treatment are limited. Routine screening, such as the Papanicolaou test (Pap smears) and human papillomavirus (HPV) testing, plays a crucial role in the early detection and prevention of cervical cancer. However, the participation rate in cervical cancer screening programs remains below optimal levels due to various factors. This study aimed to evaluate the reliability and acceptability of the HygeiaTouch Self Sampling Kit for Women in collecting vaginal samples for HPV typing, comparing the results with samples collected by physicians. The study included 1210 women aged 21-65 from three medical centers in Taiwan. The findings indicated that the self-sampling kit was as effective as physician-collected specimens in terms of obtaining valid samples and identifying HPV. The agreement between the two methods was 88%, with a κ value of 0.75. Furthermore, the study assessed the mechanical characteristics of the self-sampling applicator through tensile, bending, and torque tests, and determined that it was safe for intravaginal use. Additionally, the study evaluated the safety and satisfaction of self-sampling and found a low rate of adverse events (0.7%) and high levels of satisfaction (over 90%) among participants. Overall, we demonstrated that the HygeiaTouch Self Sampling Kit for Women is a reliable and acceptable device for HPV testing and cervical screening, providing a convenient, safe, and effective alternative for women.

OBJECTIVES: The psychological effects of the COVID-19 pandemic may include anxiety. However, the association between demographic and physiological factors in COVID-19 associated anxiety symptoms is poorly understood. Therefore, the present cross-sectional study was conducted to examine anxiety symptoms and associated factors among patients with the SARS-CoV-2 omicron variant during quarantine in Shanghai. METHODS: The study was conducted between April 16, 2022, and May 21, 2022, at Fangcang Shelter Hospital in Shanghai, China. Data were collected using an anonymous online questionnaire. Demographic characteristics, respiratory symptoms, vaccine dose, comorbidities (such as hypertension and diabetes), type of work, and mental health symptoms were evaluated. Logistic regression was used to investigate the relationship between anxiety symptoms and risk factors. Stratification analysis was performed to investigate potential interactions. RESULTS: A total of 2132 patients with confirmed omicron variant SARS-CoV-2 infection were enrolled. The results showed that sex, age, type of work, respiratory symptoms, and comorbidities were positively associated with anxiety symptoms. Female gender (OR = 1.47, 95% CI = 1.11-1.94), nonmanual labor (OR = 1.62, 95% CI = 1.25-2.09), respiratory symptoms (OR = 3.19, 95% CI = 2.30-4.43), and other comorbidities (OR = 1.65, 95% = 1.09-2.50)were positively associated with anxiety symptoms. A significant interaction was observed between gender and nonmanual labor (OR = 1.54, 95% = 1.29-1.85), respiratory symptoms (OR = 2.06, 95% = 1.72-2.48), and comorbidities (OR = 1.57, 95% = 1.16-2.12), such that effects were stronger in women compared to men. There were also significant interactions between age group and nonmanual labor and respiratory symptoms in their association with anxiety symptoms. CONCLUSIONS: Alleviation of respiratory symptoms, addressing comorbidities, and both psychological and psychopharmacological treatments may help reduce anxiety symptoms following infection with the SARS-CoV-2 omicron variant in mainland China.
