RESUMEN

Emotional intelligence has been considered an important construct by schools and universities because of its theoretical importance and practical implications. Considerable resources and time have been spent by the educational institutions to develop the emotional skills of their students. The present meta-analysis aimed at studying the relationship of emotional intelligence, including its three theoretical models, with academic performance while accounting for age and gender as moderators. "Robumeta" package was used for the meta-analysis of multilevel random effects with robust variance estimation (RVE) in R version 4.0.3. Effect sizes were calculated and meta-regression analysis with RVE was used to assess the relationship with the moderator variables. A positive and significant overall relationship was found between emotional intelligence and academic performance (ρ = 0.19). The moderating effect of emotional intelligence with gender streams on emotional intelligence and academic performance's relationship was examined through meta-regression with robust variance estimation and sub-group analyses. Whereas the relationship between emotional intelligence and academic performance was not found to be moderated by age, it was found to be partially mediated by gender.

RESUMEN

Introduction: Acute kidney injury following cardiac surgery is a dreaded complication contributing to early mortality. Diagnosing AKI using serum creatinine usually results in a delay. To combat this, certain kidney damage specific biomarkers were investigated to identify if they can serve as early predictors of cardiac surgery-associated AKI (CSA-AKI). This study systematically reviews three such biomarkers; NGAL, tissue inhibitor of matrix metalloproteinase-2 (TIMP-2) and insulin-like growth factor binding protein-7 (IGFBP7) to identify if they can serve as early predictors of CSA-AKI.Methods: Systematic search was carried out on literature reporting the diagnostic ability of the three biomarkers from databases in accordance with PRISMA guidelines. Results: We found 43 articles reporting urinary-NGAL levels (n = 34 in adults, n = 9 in children) and 10 studies reporting TIMP-2 and IGFBP7 levels among adults. Interestingly, NGAL showed high diagnostic value in predicting AKI in children (seven among nine studies with AUROC > 0.8). The cell cycle arrest biomarkers, namely TIMP-2 and IGFBP7, showed high diagnostic value in predicting AKI in adults (five among ten studies with AUROC > 0.8).Conclusion: In predicting CSA-AKI; the diagnostic value of NGAL is high in the paediatric population while the diagnostic value of TIMP-2 and IGFBP7 is high in adults.

RESUMEN

INTRODUCTION: The growing number of students with Autism will set challenge to school teachers to become better prepared to take the necessary action to serve and to assist children with autism. AIM: The aim in this study was to assess the knowledge and attitude of school teachers regarding Autism Spectrum Disorder in Badaya city of Al-Qassim region, kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and to find out any differences in school teachers knowledge based on (gender, educational level, experience, contact with students with autism, type of school). METHODS: a cross sectional study was conducted in Badaya City on school teachers from December 2017 until March 2018 to assess their knowledge about Autism spectrum disorder. Autism knowledge Questionnaire was completed by 248 school teachers participated in the research study, data was collected from answers of the 30 questions of the questionnaire for all participants, and analyzed using SPSS version 21. RESULTS: total level of knowledge in our sample of school teachers was 48.7%, a statistical significant differences between school teachers' knowledge based on type of school, contact with children with autism favoring public schools p value=0.00, and previous contact with students with autism p value=0.03 which have higher level of knowledge. Educational level, grade of teaching, experience, gender did not significantly affect teachers' knowledge. CONCLUSION: School teachers had a weak level of knowledge about Autism Spectrum disorder. Previous contact with students with autism definitely raises level of knowledge.
