[A case of leiomyosarcoma of the small intestine with perforative peritonitis].

On April 15th, 1986, the patient, a 58-year-old man, felt ill because of a stomachache. On April 15, he was referred to our hospital and admitted after having been diagnosed as having pan peritonitis. During surgery, an extraintestinal growth, a small fist-size tumor, was detected in the jejunum. The tumor was partly perforated, and a partial resection of the small intestine was carried out. A histopathological examination led to the diagnosis of a leiomyosarcoma of the small intestine. On June 12, 1987, the patient again returned to our hospital, complaining of a stomachache. A reoperation was performed for perforative peritonitis due to its recurrence but only palliative treatment could be provided.

[A case of an exogastric developing-type carcinoma of the stomach and a review of thirty nine cases reported in Japan].

One personally handled case of an exogastric developing-type carcinoma of the stomach and 39 other cases reported in Japan are discussed in this study. Twenty-seven cases mainly involved an abdominal tumor. As to the developing region, it was frequently in the greater curvature of the antrum. By tissue type, many undifferentiated medullary cancers were noted. With regard to treatment, many researchers recommend the excision of the other complicated organs. Survival for more than postoperative 1 year were as few as 4 cases, including the case handled.

[Triple primary malignancies (malignant melanoma, laryngeal cancer and hepatoma)].

A 61 year-old male patient, diagnosed to have a malignant melanoma in the left arm in April, 1981, was treated by chemotherapy (gamma-INF and DAVP) and a left axillary lymphadenectomy. In March, 1985, he had complained of hoarseness and an early laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma was found, and was subjected to laser treatment. On May 25, 1986, during his hospitalization for treatment of a multiple metastasis of a malignant melanoma, he suddenly suffered from a gastroduodenal perforation. During an emergency operation, a third cancer, a primary mixed hepatocellular and cholangiocellular carcinoma, was discovered.

Molecular forms of atrial natriuretic polypeptides in mammalian tissues and plasma.

A highly sensitive radioimmunoassay detecting for all the atrial natriuretic polypeptides isolated so far from human and rat (hANPs and rANPs) has been established by using an antiserum raised against alpha-hANP, since the antiserum recognizes the subsequence flanked by two cysteine residues (positions 7 and 23) in alpha-hANP and crossreacts with human as well as rat ANPs. By using the radioimmunoassay combined with gel chromatography or high performance liquid chromatography, it was revealed that ANP immunoreactivity in human atria is composed of alpha-(28 residues), beta-(56 residues: alpha-hANP dimer) and gamma-hANP(126 residues) in various ratios. In rat, porcine and bovine atrial tissues, however, gamma-rANP(126 residues) was found to be a major component. In contrast with atrial ANP, plasma ANP was found to be predominantly alpha-form in rat.
