RESUMEN

Pu-erh tea pomace (PTP), a solid substance after extracting functional substances or steeping tea, is rich in crude protein, and crude fiber, and could be used as considerable bioactive substances in animal production. However, its application as poultry feed and its role in regulating the characteristics of gut microorganisms is unclear. The present study investigated the effects of PTP on growth performance and gut microbes of chicken. A total of 144 Chahua chickens No. 2 were individually housed and divided into three groups which were fed diets containing 0% (CK), 1% PTP (T1), and 2% PTP (T2), respectively. The serum and cecum contents were collected after slaughter for analysis. The results indicated that growth performance and carcass traits were not affected by the PTP content. Serum total triglyceride (TG), total cholesterol (TC), and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) levels in the T1 and T2 groups were significantly lower than in the CK group (p < 0.05). The gut microbiota α-diversity in the T2 group was significantly lower than in the CK group (p < 0.05). Based on partial least squares-discriminant analysis (PLS-DA), we observed significant segregation in gut bacterial communities among the groups. At the phylum level, Bacteroidetes and Firmicutes were dominant in the cecum, occupying about 85% of the cecum flora. The relative abundance of Bacteroidetes tended to increase. At the genus level, the relative abundance of Bacteroides is the highest in the CK、T1 and T2 groups. The relative abundances of Bacteroides and Prevotellaceae_UCG-001 microorganisms in the T2 group were significantly higher than in the CK group (p < 0.05). However, the relative abundance of CHKCI001 microorganisms in the T2 group was significantly lower compared to the CK group (p < 0.05). TG content was significantly positively correlated with CHKCI001 relative abundance, and significantly negatively correlated with Prevotellaceae_UCG-001 relative abundance (p < 0.05). Moreover, the LDL-C content was significantly positively correlated with CHKCI001 relative abundance (p < 0.05). In conclusion, PTP could decrease the cholesterol levels in the blood by improving the composition of gut microbiota, which provides a reference for the application of PTP in the poultry industry.

This study is to analyze the influence of visibility in a foggy weather environment on the accuracy of machine vision obstacle detection in assisted driving. We present a foggy day imaging model and analyze the image characteristics, then we set up the faster region convolutional neural network (Faster R-CNN) as the basic network for target detection in the simulation experiment and use Karlsruhe Institute of Technology and Toyota Technological Institute (KITTI) data for network detection and classification training. PreScan software is used to build weather and traffic scenes based on a foggy imaging model, and we study object detection of machine vision in four types of weather condition-clear (no fog), light fog, medium fog, and heavy fog-by simulation experiment. The experimental results show that the detection recall is 91.55%, 85.21%, 72.54~64.79%, and 57.75% respectively in no fog, light fog, medium fog, and heavy fog environments. Then we used real scenes in medium fog and heavy fog environment to verify the simulation experiment. Through this study, we can determine the influence of bad weather on the detection results of machine vision, and hence we can improve the safety of assisted driving through further research.

The nucleus pulposus (NP) is an avascular, hydrated tissue that permits the intervertebral disc to resist compressive loads to the spine. To determine the mechanisms by which intervertebral disc degeneration is caused by the nucleus pulposus, the expression and regulation of nuclear factor (NF)­κB and acid sensing ion channel 3 (ASIC3) were examined. For the intervertebral disc degeneration model, NP was harvested from the tail of rats and applied to the L5 dorsal root ganglion (DRG). The mechanical pain withdrawal threshold (PWT) in NP model rats was assessed. Reverse transcription­quantitative polymerase chain reaction and western blotting were used to examine NF­κB and ASIC3 expression levels in DRG. Finally, the effect of the NF­κB inhibitor pyrrolidine dithiocarbamate (PDTC) and the ASIC3 signaling pathway blocker amiloride were examined. Rats exposed to NP exhibited decreased PWT for 12 days, and NF­κB and ASIC3 was upregulated in DRG induced by NP 14 days after surgery. After administration of amiloride and PDTC to DRG affected by NP, the levels of nitric oxide (NO), tumor necrosis factor­α (TNF­α), interleukin­6 (IL­6), NF­κB and ASIC3 were downregulated, and the levels of aquaporin (AQP) 1 and AQP3 were significantly increased for 14 days. In conclusion, these results suggested that NF­κB and ASIC3 may serve an important role in intervertebral disc degeneration caused by NP.

INTRODUCTION: Although endoscopic procedures for lumbar disc diseases have improved greatly, treating migrated disc herniation is still a challenging task. Because of anatomic limitations, a rigid endoscope cannot effectively reach the herniated nucleus pulposus (HNP) in the hidden zone. The purpose of this study was to describe the transpedicle approach for HNP in the hidden zone using the percutaneous endoscopic lumbar discectomy system and to demonstrate the clinical results. Materials and Surgical Technique: Under fluoroscopy, the percutaneous endoscopic lumbar discectomy cannula is placed on the superior articular process, and a trephine with a diameter of 7.3 mm is used to make a bone hole. Through the bone hole, an HNP in the hidden zone can be detected with a rongeur for percutaneous endoscopic lumbar discectomy, the HNP can be removed, and then the decompressed nerve root is verified. We have treated two cases of hidden-zone HNP using the transpedicle approach. In all cases, the HNP was successfully removed, as confirmed by postoperative MRI. Clinical outcomes were acceptable. DISCUSSION: The percutaneous endoscopic transpedicle approach is an effective technique for managing HNP in the lumbar hidden zone.

Erbium:yttrium-aluminum-garnet (Er:YAG) laser preparation of tooth cavities for restoration is an increasingly popular method, but its compatibility with existing composite material bonding protocols has not been fully defined. This study evaluated the effect of laser and etchant pretreatments on the performance of one-bottle self-etch adhesives in Er:YAG laser-prepared dentin. Eight groups of 20 extracted teeth were established to investigate bonding in tested dentin disks. Various combinations of laser preparation (with/without), pretreatment (none/acid-etch/low-fluence Er:YAG irradiation), and self-etching adhesive (G-Bond Plus or Xeno V) were tested. Samples were then restored with composite resin and subjected to a tensile bond strength (TBS) test. We also performed scanning electron microscopy (SEM) on dentin disks from some of these groups before and after adhesive application to evaluate their microscopic morphological appearance. Statistical analysis (Dunnett T3 test coupled with the general linear model at 5% significance level) revealed that the laser preparation of dentin did not impact on TBS (p = 0.914), whereas pretreatment with either phosphoric acid (p < 0.0001) or low-fluence Er:YAG laser irradiation (p < 0.0001) significantly increased TBS, although there was no difference between them in their respective elevation of TBS. SEM analysis demonstrated that both acid and laser pretreatments reduced irregularities and produced a more homogeneous surface. Er:YAG laser preparation does not compromise the efficacy of one-step self-etch dentin adhesives, and pretreatment with phosphoric acid or low-fluence Er:YAG laser can significantly increase the TBS of adhesion to this irradiated dentin.
