Cold stress poses significant limitations on the growth, latex yield, and ecological distribution of rubber trees (Hevea brasiliensis). The GSK3-like kinase plays a significant role in helping plants adapt to different biotic and abiotic stresses. However, the functions of GSK3-like kinase BR-INSENSITIVE 2 (BIN2) in Hevea brasiliensis remain elusive. Here, we identified HbBIN2s of Hevea brasiliensis and deciphered their roles in cold stress resistance. The transcript levels of HbBIN2s are upregulated by cold stress. In addition, HbBIN2s are present in both the nucleus and cytoplasm and have the ability to interact with the INDUCER OF CBF EXPRESSION1(HbICE1) transcription factor, a central component in cold signaling. HbBIN2 overexpression in Arabidopsis displays decreased tolerance to chilling stress with a lower survival rate and proline content but a higher level of electrolyte leakage (EL) and malondialdehyde (MDA) than wild type under cold stress. Meanwhile, HbBIN2 transgenic Arabidopsis treated with cold stress exhibits a significant increase in the accumulation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and a decrease in the activity of antioxidant enzymes. Further investigation reveals that HbBIN2 inhibits the transcriptional activity of HbICE1, thereby attenuating the expression of C-REPEAT BINDING FACTOR (HbCBF1). Consistent with this, overexpression of HbBIN2 represses the expression of CBF pathway cold-regulated genes under cold stress. In conclusion, our findings indicate that HbBIN2 functions as a suppressor of cold stress resistance by modulating HbICE1 transcriptional activity and ROS homeostasis.

Rats were divided into four groups (n = 6 for each group), i.e., Normal Control group (NC), Diabetes Control group (DM-C), MSC-CM group and Mesenchymal Stem Cells group (MSCs). MSC-CM group was treated with an injection of conditioned medium derived from preconditioned rats' bone marrow MSCs around ulcers. MSCs group were treated with an injection of rats' bone marrow MSCs. The other two groups were treated with an injection of PBS. After the treatment, wound closure, re-epithelialization (thickness of the stratum granulosums of the skin, by H&E staining), cell proliferation (Ki67, by IHC), angiogenesis (CD31, by IFC), autophagy (LC3B, by IFC and WB; autolysosome, by EM) and pyroptosis (IL-1ß, NLRP3, Caspase-1, GSDMD and GSDMD-N, by WB) in ulcers were evaluated. RESULTS: After the treatment wound area rate, IL-1ß by ELISA, and IL-1ß, Caspase-1, GSDMD and GSDMD-N by WB of MSC-CM group were less than those of DM group. The thickness of the stratum granulosums of the skin, proliferation index of Ki67, mean optic density of CD31 and LC3B by IFC, and LC3B by WB of MSC-CM group were more than those of DM group. The present analysis demonstrated that the injection of MSC-CM into rats with DFUs enhanced the wound-healing process by accelerating wound closure, promoting cell proliferation and angiogenesis, enhancing cell autophagy, and reducing cell pyroptosis in ulcers. CONCLUSIONS: Studies conducted indicate that MSC-CM administration could be a novel cell-free therapeutic approach to treat DFUs accelerating the wound healing process and avoiding the risk of living cells therapy.

The exploitation of efficient and economical electrocatalysts for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) is of exceeding interest in renewable clean-energy technologies. Herein, the facile solvothermal reaction of S and chromic acetate in ethylenediamine (en) achieved a novel organic hybrid chromium sulfide [Cr4(µ3-S)4(en)4(SH)4]·0.25H2O (1), which offers a new type of antiferromagnetic cubane-like chromium sulfide cluster with σ-donor en ligands. 1 was utilized in combination with Ni nanoparticles and porous Ni foam (NF) to fabricate a Ni/1/NF electrode as an efficient cathodic catalyst, indicating excellent electrocatalytic property toward HER.

ABSTRACT Introduction: Basketball is a sport of skillful competition. It demands characteristics from its athletes such as agility, balance, and a confrontational spirit. This requires a great improvement in strength, speed, endurance, and physical conditioning. Objective: Study the effects of eccentric muscle strength training in the lower limbs on balance ability in basketball players. Methods: Current scientific literature was used to design an experimental method with statistical data analysis. The research subjects were divided into 4 groups for a 6-week eccentric training intervention, and the effect of eccentric exercise on flexibility and balance in basketball players was investigated. Results: Compared to the pre-test and after the training intervention in the test group, there was a very significant difference (P<0.01); only the intervention group showed a significant difference (P<0.05). Conclusion: Eccentric training at the end of basketball training has a positive effect on improving flexibility and balance in basketball players. RESUMO Introdução: O basquetebol é um esporte de competição habilidosa. Exige características dos seus atletas como agilidade, equilíbrio e espírito de confronto. Para isso, é necessário um grande aperfeiçoamento de força, velocidade, resistência e condicionamento físico. Objetivo: Estudar os efeitos do treinamento de força muscular excêntrico nos membros inferiores sobre a capacidade de equilíbrio nos jogadores de basquetebol. Métodos: Utilizou-se a literatura científica atual para elaborar um método experimental, com análise estatística de dados. Os sujeitos da pesquisa foram divididos em 4 grupos para intervenção de treinamento excêntrico de 6 semanas, foi investigado o efeito do exercício excêntrico sobre a flexibilidade e equilíbrio nos jogadores de basquete. Resultados: Em comparação com o pré-teste e após a intervenção de treinamento no grupo de teste, houve uma diferença muito significativa (P<0,01), somente o grupo de intervenção apresentou uma diferença significativa (P<0,05). Conclusão: O treinamento excêntrico ao final do treinamento de basquete tem um efeito positivo na melhoria da flexibilidade e equilíbrio nos jogadores de basquete. RESUMEN Introducción: El baloncesto es un deporte de competición de habilidad. Exige a sus atletas características como la agilidad, el equilibrio y el espíritu de confrontación. Para ello, es necesaria una gran mejora de la fuerza, la velocidad, la resistencia y el acondicionamiento físico. Objetivo: Estudiar los efectos del entrenamiento de la fuerza muscular excéntrica en los miembros inferiores sobre la capacidad de equilibrio en jugadores de baloncesto. Métodos: Se utilizó la literatura científica actual para diseñar un método experimental, con análisis de datos estadísticos. Los sujetos de la investigación se dividieron en 4 grupos para una intervención de entrenamiento excéntrico de 6 semanas, y se investigó el efecto del ejercicio excéntrico en la flexibilidad y el equilibrio de los jugadores de baloncesto. Resultados: En comparación con la pre-prueba y después de la intervención de entrenamiento en el grupo de prueba hubo una diferencia muy significativa (P<0,01), sólo el grupo de intervención mostró una diferencia significativa (P<0,05). Conclusión: El entrenamiento excéntrico al final del entrenamiento de baloncesto tiene un efecto positivo en la mejora de la flexibilidad y el equilibrio de los jugadores de baloncesto. Low temperature is a key factor limiting the rubber plantation extending to high latitude area. Previous work has shown that cold-induced DNA demethylation was coordinated with the expression of cold-responsive (COR) genes in Hevea brasiliensis. In this work, reduced representation bisulphite sequencing analysis of H. brasiliensis showed that cold treatment induced global genomic DNA demethylation and altered the sequence contexts of methylated cytosines, but the levels of mCG methylation in transposable elements were slightly enhanced by cold treatment. Integrated analysis of the DNA methylome and transcriptome revealed 400 genes whose expression correlated with altered DNA methylation. DNA demethylation in the upstream region of gene seems to correlate with higher gene expression, whereas demethylation in the gene body has less association. Our results suggest that cold treatment globally change the genomic DNA methylation status of the rubber tree, which might coordinate reprogramming of the transcriptome.

Low temperature remarkably limits rubber tree (Hevea brasiliensis Muell. Arg.) growth, latex production, and geographical distribution, but the underlying mechanisms of Hevea brasiliensis cold stress response remain elusive. Here, we identified HbSnRK2.6 as a key component in ABA signaling functions in phytohormone abscisic acid (ABA)-regulated cold stress response in Hevea brasiliensis. Exogenous application of ABA enhances Hevea brasiliensis cold tolerance. Cold-regulated (COR) genes in the CBF pathway are upregulated by ABA. Transcript levels of all five HbSnRK2.6 members are significantly induced by cold, while HbSnRK2.6A, HbSnRK2.6B, and HbSnRK2.6C can be further activated by ABA under cold conditions. Additionally, HbSnRK2.6s are localized in the cytoplasm and nucleus, and can physically interact with HbICE2, a crucial positive regulator in the cold signaling pathway. Overexpression of HbSnRK2.6A or HbSnRK2.6B in Arabidopsis extensively enhances plant responses to ABA and expression of COR genes, leading to increased cold stress tolerance. Furthermore, HbSnRK2.6A and HbSnRK2.6B can promote transcriptional activity of HbICE2, thus, increasing the expression of HbCBF1. Taken together, we demonstrate that HbSnRK2.6s are involved in ABA-regulated cold stress response in Hevea brasiliensis by regulating transcriptional activity of HbICE2.

KEY MESSAGE: An ICE-like transcription factor mediates jasmonate-regulated cold tolerance in the rubber tree (Hevea brasiliensis), and confers cold tolerance in transgenic Arabidopsis. The rubber tree (Hevea brasiliensis) is susceptible to low temperatures, and understanding the mechanisms regulating cold stress is of great potential value for enhancing tolerance to this environmental variable. In this study, we find that treatment with exogenous methyl jasmonate (MeJA) could significantly enhance Hevea brasiliensis cold tolerance. In addition, yeast two-hybrid and bimolecular fluorescence complementation (BiFC) experiments show that JASMONATE ZIM-DOMAIN(JAZ) proteins, HbJAZ1 and HbJAZ12, key repressors of JA signaling pathway, interact with HbICE2, a novel ICE (Inducer of CBF Expression)-like protein. HbICE2 was nuclear-localised and bound to the MYC recognition (MYCR) sequence. The transcriptional activation activity of HbICE2 in yeast cells was dependent on the N-terminus, and overexpression of HbICE2 in Arabidopsis resulted in elevated tolerance to chilling stress. Furthermore, dual-luciferase transient assay reveals that HbJAZ1 and HbJAZ12 proteins inhibit the transcriptional function of HbICE2. The expression of C-repeat-binding factor (CBF) signalling pathway genes including HbCBF1, HbCBF2 and HbCOR47 were up-regulated by MeJA. Taken together, our data suggest that the new ICE-like transcription factor HbICE2 is involved in jasmonate-regulated cold tolerance in Hevea brasiliensis.

BACKGROUND: Coronary artery disease (CAD) and osteoporosis (OP) are common diseases in postmenopausal women. In both cross-sectional and longitudinal epidemiologic studies, low bone mass has been related to increased frequency of CAD. However, available data on the relationship between bone mineral density (BMD) and severity of coronary lesions is limited. OBJECTIVE: To investigate association between the BMD and severity of coronary lesions assessed by Gensini score in postmenopausal women. METHODS: This study included 122 postmenopausal women who were diagnosed with CAD. These patients were divided into two groups according to the severity of coronary lesions assessed by the Gensini score - patients with mild coronary lesions (Gensini score < 25) and patients with severe coronary lesions (Gensini score ≥ 25). Femoral neck mineral density was measured with dual energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA). RESULTS: The study included postmenopausal women aged 64.31 ± 4.71 years, 85 of whom (69.7%) exhibited severe coronary lesions. Participants with severe coronary lesions had a significantly higher T score than did those with mild coronary lesions at the femoral neck (p < 0.05). The mean T-score was -0.84 ± 1.01 in mild coronary lesions group, -1.42 ± 1.39 in severe coronary lesions group (p < 0.05). Multivariable logistic regression analysis showed that osteopenia-osteoporosis at the Femoral neck (odds ratio 2.73; 95% confidence interval 1.06 to 6.13) was associated with an increased risk of developing severe coronary lesions. The multiple regression model showed that T-scores (b = -0.407, SE = 0.151, p=0.007) were the independent predictors of Gensini score. CONCLUSION: The relationship between severity of coronary lesions and BMD was significant in postmenopausal women. BMD, a low-cost technique involving minimal radiation exposure, widely used for osteoporosis screening, is a promising marker of severity of coronary lesions.

Resumo Fundamento: A doença arterial coronariana (DAC) e a osteoporose são doenças comuns em mulheres pós-menopausa. Tanto em estudos transversais como em estudos epidemiológicos longitudinais, a massa óssea diminuída foi relacionada à frequência aumentada de DAC. No entanto, dados disponíveis sobre a relação entre densidade mineral óssea (DMO) e gravidade das lesões coronarianas são limitados. Objetivo: Investigar a associação entre DMO e gravidade das lesões coronarianas avaliadas pelo escore de Gensini em mulheres pós-menopausa. Métodos: Este estudo incluiu 122 mulheres pós-menopausa diagnosticadas com DAC. As pacientes foram divididas em dois grupos de acordo com a gravidade das lesões coronarianas avaliada pelo escore de Gensini - pacientes com lesões coronarianas leves (escore de Gensini < 25) e pacientes com lesões coronarianas graves (escore de Gensini ≥ 25). A densidade mineral do colo femoral foi medida por absorção de raios-X de dupla energia (DXA). Resultados: O estudo incluiu mulheres pós-menopausa com idade de 64,31 ± 4,71 anos, 85 delas (69,7%) com lesões coronarianas graves. Pacientes com lesões coronarianas graves apresentaram um escore T mais elevado que aquelas com lesões coronarianas leves no colo femoral (p < 0,05). O escore T médio foi -0,84 ± 1,01 no grupo com lesões leves, e -1,42 ± 1,39 no grupo com lesões graves (p < 0,05). Rubber trees (Hevea brasiliensis) were successfully introduced to south China in the 1950s on a large-scale; however, due to the climate, are prone to cold injury during the winter season. Increased cold tolerance is therefore an important goal, yet the mechanism underlying rubber tree responses to cold stress remains unclear. This study carried out functional characterization of HbICE1 (Inducer of CBF Expression 1) from H. brasiliensis. A nucleic protein with typical features of ICEs, HbICE1 was able to bind to MYC recognition sites and had strong transactivation activity. HbICE1 was constitutively expressed in all tested tissues, with highest levels in the bark, and was up-regulated when subjected to various stresses including cold, dehydration, salinity and wounding. When overexpressed in Arabidopsis, 35S::HbICE1 plants showed enhanced cold resistance with increased proline content, reduced malondialdehyde (MDA) metabolism and electrolyte leakage, and decreased reactive oxygen species (ROS) accumulation. Expression of the cold responsive genes (COR15A, COR47, RD29A, and KIN1) was also significantly promoted in 35S::HbICE1 compared to wild-type plants under cold stress. Differentially expressed genes (DEGs) analysis showed that cold treatment changed genes expression profiles involved in many biological processes and phytohormones perception and transduction. Ethylene, JA, ABA, as well as ICE-CBF signaling pathways might work synergistically to cope with cold tolerance in rubber tree. Taken together, these findings suggest that HbICE1 is a member of the ICE gene family and a positive regulator of cold tolerance in H. brasiliensis.

The one-dimensional coordination polymer catena-poly[[[di-µ2-acetato-tetrakis[µ3-(pyridin-2-yl)methanolato]tetracopper(II)]-di-µ2-diacetamidato] acetonitrile monosolvate], {[Cu4(C6H6NO)4(CH3COO)2(C2N3)2]·CH3CN}n, has been prepared from the direct reaction of 2-(hydroxymethyl)pyridine with Cu(OAc)2·H2O (OAc(-) is acetate) in a methanol-acetonitrile mixture. The four Cu centres are bridged by four O atoms from discrete (pyridin-2-yl)methanolate ligands and two acetate groups, forming a capped [Cu4O4] cubane core. Each core is doubly bridged to each of two adjacent cores by [N(CN)2](-) anions, resulting in one-dimensional chains. The magnetic properties of the complex were also studied.
