RESUMEN

Perfect metamaterial absorber (PMA) is an attractive optical wavelength absorber with potential solar energy and photovoltaic applications. Perfect metamaterials used as solar cells can improve efficiency by amplifying incident solar waves on the PMA. This study aims to assess a wide-band octagonal PMA for a visible wavelength spectrum. The proposed PMA consists of three layers: nickel, silicon dioxide, and nickel. Based on the simulations, polarisation-insensitive absorption transverse electric (TE) and transverse magnetic (TM) modes were achieved due to symmetry. The proposed PMA structure was subjected to computational simulation using a FIT-based CST simulator. The design structure was again confirmed using FEM-based HFSS to maintain pattern integrity and absorption analysis. The absorption rates of the absorber were estimated at 99.987% and 99.997% for 549.20 THz and 653.2 THz, respectively. The results indicated that the PMA could achieve high absorption peaks in TE and TM modes despite being insensitive to polarisation and the incident angle. Electric field and magnetic field analyses were performed to understand the absorption of the PMA for solar energy harvesting. In conclusion, the PMA possesses outstanding visible frequency absorption, making it a promising option.

RESUMEN

Melocanna baccifera is the most common bamboo species which grows naturally and gregariously covering large tracts of land in the forests of Chittagong Hill Tracts of Bangladesh. However, there is limited information about the chemical characterization of its culms for its utilization and processing. This paper aimed to determine the effect of age and height position on the chemical properties of M. baccifera. The highest value of holocellulose content was 74.66% for the top portion of 3-year-old bamboo, while the bottom part of 3-year-old bamboo showed the highest value of lignin (27.83%) and extractive (5.24%) content. For caustic soda (1% NaOH) solubility, the bottom portion of 1-year-old bamboo had shown the maximum value (25.67%), and it was the lowest (19.10%) for the top portion of 3-year-old bamboo. Ageing had a significant (p < 0.05) effect on all chemical properties, while the height position had a significant effect on the holocellulose and lignin content and water solubility. The chemical properties of M. baccifera can enable its proper utilization in the downstream process.

RESUMEN

A triple-band epsilon-negative (ENG) metamaterial based on a split ring resonator (SSR) with a modified hexagonal-shaped metal strip proposed in this study is a new combination of a single slit square resonator and a modified hexagonal-shaped metal strip. The desired unit cell FR-4 (lossy) that was selected as the substrate was 1.6 mm thick. Following the assessment of the unit cell, a high-frequency electromagnetic simulator like the computer simulation technology (CST) microwave studio was applied to assess the S-parameters. The proposed design exhibited resonance at 2.89, 9.42, and 15.16 GHz. The unit cell also demonstrated negative permittivity in the frequency ranges 2.912-3.728 GHz, 9.552-10.144 GHz, and 15.216-17.328 GHz, along with a negative refractive index. An effective medium ratio (EMR) of 11.53 is an indicator of the goodness of the metamaterial unit cell. It is deliberate at the lowermost resonance frequency of 2.89 GHz. Moreover, the simulated results that were validated using HFSS and equivalent circuit model indicated slight variations. The proposed design was finalised based on several parametric studies, including design optimisation, different unit cell sizes, various substrate materials, and different electromagnetic (EM) field propagations. The proposed triple band (S, X, and Ku bands) negative permittivity metamaterial unit cell can be utilised for various wireless applications, such as microwave communication, satellite communication, and long-distance radio communication.

RESUMEN

A new perfect metamaterial absorber (PMA) with high fractional bandwidth (FBW) is examined and verified for solar energy harvesting. Solar cells based on perfect metamaterial give a chance to increase the efficiency of the system by intensifying the solar electromagnetic wave that incident on the device. The designed structure is mostly offered in the visible frequency range so as to exploit the solar's energy efficiently. Parametric investigations with regard to the measurements of the design structure are fulfilled to characterize the absorber. The finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method-based CST simulator was used to keep the pattern parameters and absorbance analysis. The metamaterial shows almost 99.96% and 99.60% perfect absorption at 523.84 THz and 674.12 THz resonance frequencies. Moreover, absorption's FBW is studied, and 39.22% FBW is found. The results confirm that the designed PMA can attain very high absorption peak at two modes such as transverse electric (TE) and transverse magnetic (TM) mode. Other than the numerical outcomes demonstrated that the suggested configuration was also polarization angle insensitive. In addition, the change of absorbance of the structure has provided a new kind of sensor applications in these frequency ranges. Therefore, the suggested metamaterial absorber offers perfect absorption for visible frequency ranges and can be used for renewable solar energy harvesting applications.
