RESUMEN

The metagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS) method is preferred for genotyping useful for the identification of organisms, illumination of metabolic pathways, and determination of microbiota. It can accurately obtain all the nucleic acid information in the test sample. Anthrax is one of the most important zoonotic diseases, infecting mainly herbivores and occasionally humans. The disease has four typical clinical forms, cutaneous, gastrointestinal, inhalation, and injection, all of which may result in sepsis or meningitis, with cutaneous being the most common form. Here, we report a case of cutaneous anthrax diagnosed by mNGS in a butcher. Histopathology of a skin biopsy revealed PAS-positive bacilli. Formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE) tissue sample was confirmed the diagnosis of anthrax by mNGS. He was cured with intravenous penicillin. To our knowledge, this is the first case of cutaneous anthrax diagnosed by mNGS using FFPE tissue. mNGS is useful for identifying pathogens that are difficult to diagnose with conventional methods, and FFPE samples are simple to manage. Compared with traditional bacterial culture, which is difficult to cultivate and takes a long time, mNGS can quickly and accurately help us diagnose anthrax, so that anthrax can be controlled in a timely manner and prevent the outbreak of epidemic events.

RESUMEN

Childhood household dysfunction (CHD) is a common adverse childhood experience, which brings the heavy physical and mental afflictions to children and adolescents. Trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy (TF-CBT) is an evidence-based psychotherapy that helps children and adolescents who have experienced childhood trauma with traumatic memories. It aims to enhance the coping abilities of CHD children and adolescents, thereby improving the negative effects caused by trauma and effectively reducing psychological burden. TF-CBT can effectively improve post-traumatic stress disorder, emotional and behavioral problems, and family function in children and adolescents with CHD. It is recommended to conduct high-quality original research in the future, develop targeted TF-CBT intervention plans based on potential predictive factors, adopt a combination of online and offline methods, and construct TF-CBT interventions suitable for the Chinese CHD population to meet the mental health service needs of CHD children and adolescents.

RESUMEN

The incidence rate of cancer is increasing year by year due to the aging of the population, unhealthy living, and eating habits. At present, surgery and medication are still the main treatments for cancer, without paying attention to the impact of individual differences in health management on cancer. However, increasing evidence suggests that individual psychological status, dietary habits, and exercise frequency are closely related to the risk and prognosis of cancer. The reminder to humanity is that the medical concept of the unified treatment plan is insufficient in cancer treatment, and a personalized treatment plan may become a breakthrough point. On this basis, the concept of "Humanistic Health Management" (HHM) is proposed. This concept is a healthcare plan that focuses on self-health management, providing an accurate and comprehensive evaluation of individual lifestyle habits, psychology, and health status, and developing personalized and targeted comprehensive cancer prevention and treatment plans. This review will provide a detailed explanation of the relationship between psychological status, dietary, and exercise habits, and the regulatory mechanisms of cancer. Intended to emphasize the importance of HHM concept in cancer prevention and better prognostic efficacy, providing new ideas for the new generation of cancer treatment.

RESUMEN

PURPOSE: Currently, there remains a scarcity of established preoperative tests to accurately predict the isocitrate dehydrogenase (IDH) mutation status in clinical scenarios, with limited research has explored the potential synergistic diagnostic performance among metabolite, perfusion, and diffusion parameters. To address this issue, we aimed to develop an imaging protocol that integrated 2-hydroxyglutarate (2HG) magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) and intravoxel incoherent motion (IVIM) by comprehensively assessing metabolic, cellular, and angiogenic changes caused by IDH mutations, and explored the diagnostic efficiency of this imaging protocol for predicting IDH mutation status in clinical scenarios. METHODS: Patients who met the inclusion criteria were categorized into two groups: IDH-wild type (IDH-WT) group and IDH-mutant (IDH-MT) group. Subsequently, we quantified the 2HG concentration, the relative apparent diffusion coefficient (rADC), the relative true diffusion coefficient value (rD), the relative pseudo-diffusion coefficient (rD*) and the relative perfusion fraction value (rf). Intergroup differences were estimated using t-test and Mann-Whitney U test. Finally, we performed receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve and DeLong's test to evaluate and compare the diagnostic performance of individual parameters and their combinations. RESULTS: 64 patients (female, 21; male, 43; age, 47.0 ± 13.7 years) were enrolled. Compared with IDH-WT gliomas, IDH-MT gliomas had higher 2HG concentration, rADC and rD (P < 0.001), and lower rD* (P = 0.013). The ROC curve demonstrated that 2HG + rD + rD* exhibited the highest areas under curve (AUC) value (0.967, 95%CI 0.889-0.996) for discriminating IDH mutation status. Compared with each individual parameter, the predictive efficiency of 2HG + rADC + rD* and 2HG + rD + rD* shows a statistically significant enhancement (DeLong's test: P < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: The integration of 2HG MRS and IVIM significantly improves the diagnostic efficiency for predicting IDH mutation status in clinical scenarios.

RESUMEN

The current strategies for the treatment of vitiligo using phototherapy usually involve treatment for two-three times per week; however, in practice, the number of patient sessions does not meet this standard. The present study found that phototherapy once a week was also effective. The present study was designed to examine the efficacy of weekly light therapy. For this purpose, 296 patients with vitiligo were included and divided into five sub-samples of the neck, face, trunk, extremities and scalp according to the site of phototherapy, and were treated once or twice weekly with phototherapy. The difference in efficacy between phototherapy performed once and twice weekly was observed using a Chi-squared test. It was concluded that there was a minimal difference between phototherapy performed twice weekly compared to once weekly for the treatment of vitiligo on the face, neck, torso, limbs and scalp. Thus, phototherapy once a week is valid for the treatment of vitiligo, although weekly light therapy takes longer to restore color for the first time.

RESUMEN

This paper proposes a mode-locked fiber laser based on graphene-coated microfiber. The total length of the fiber laser resonant cavity is 31.34 m. Under the condition of stable output of bright-dark soliton pairs from the fiber laser, dual-wavelength tuning is realized by adjusting the polarization controller (PC), and the wavelength tuning range is 11 nm. Furthermore, the effects of polarization states on bright-dark solitons are studied. It is demonstrated that the mode-locking state can be switched between conventional solitons and bright-dark solitons in the graphene mode-locked fiber laser. Bright-dark soliton pairs with different shapes and nanosecond pulse width can be obtained by adjusting the PC and pump power.

RESUMEN

The analytical validation is reported for a targeted methylation-based cell-free DNA multi-cancer early detection test designed to detect cancer and predict the cancer signal origin (tissue of origin). A machine-learning classifier was used to analyze the methylation patterns of >105 genomic targets covering >1 million methylation sites. Analytical sensitivity (limit of detection [95% probability]) was characterized with respect to tumor content by expected variant allele frequency and was determined to be 0.07%-0.17% across five tumor cases and 0.51% for the lymphoid neoplasm case. Test specificity was 99.3% (95% confidence interval, 98.6-99.7%). In the reproducibility and repeatability study, results were consistent in 31/34 (91.2%) pairs with cancer and 17/17 (100%) pairs without cancer; between runs, results were concordant for 129/133 (97.0%) cancer and 37/37 (100%) non-cancer sample pairs. Across 3- to 100-ng input levels of cell-free DNA, cancer was detected in 157/182 (86.3%) cancer samples but not in any of the 62 non-cancer samples. In input titration tests, cancer signal origin was correctly predicted in all tumor samples detected as cancer. No cross-contamination events were observed. No potential interferent (hemoglobin, bilirubin, triglycerides, genomic DNA) affected performance. The results of this analytical validation study support continued clinical development of a targeted methylation cell-free DNA multi-cancer early detection test.

RESUMEN

Bacterial drug resistance is becoming increasingly serious, and it is urgent to develop effective antibacterial drugs. Antimicrobial peptides (AMPs), as potential candidates against bacteria, have a broad prospect for development. Herein, a series of AMPs with biological characteristics (net positive charge, amphiphilicity, and α-helix), an AXA motif recognized by membrane bound serine protease type I signal peptidases (SPase I), an FLPII motif to reduce hemolysis, and a monosaccharide motif to improve the stability and activity were designed and synthesized, and among which, the glycolipidpeptide GLP6 (glycosylated LP6 lipopeptide) had excellent antibacterial and immunomodulatory activity, good stability and biocompatibility, and excellent biofilm eradication and membrane penetrating activity. The positively charged spherical aggregates formed by self-assembly of GLP6 could encapsulate tetracycline (TC) to form GLP6@TC with a sustained-release effect, which could enhance the sensitivity of bacteria to the antibiotic and realize combined sterilization. The results of acute peritonitis and bacterial keratitis showed that GLP6@TC had a good combined antibacterial effect and the ability to inhibit interleukin-2 (IL-2), which could significantly reduce the inflammatory response while treating bacterial infection, and it had great potential for application. The results of computer molecular docking showed the AXA motif could effectively bind to SPase I, which was consistent with the results of biological experiments. In general, the study could provide a perspective for the design of AMPs and combined antibacterial therapy.

RESUMEN

The problem of large calculation models in bus-two-wheeled vehicle traffic accidents (TA) leads to the difficulty of balancing the calculation efficiency and accuracy, as well as difficulties in accident reconstruction. Herein, two typical accidents were reconstructed, based on the rigid-flexible coupled human model (HM) and the Facet vehicle model, and the vehicle damage conditions and the human head biomechanical injury were analyzed. The simulation results showed that the physical process of the human-vehicle collision was basically consistent with the accident video, the windshield fracture was consistent with the actual vehicle report, and the human biomechanical injury characteristics were also consistent with the autopsy report, which verified the feasibility of the simulation model, and provides a basis and reference for forensic identification and for traffic police to deal with accident disputes.

RESUMEN

Cold and drought stress are the two most severe abiotic stresses in alpine regions. Poa crymophila is widely grown in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau with strong tolerance. Here, by profiling gene expression patterns and metabolomics-associated transcriptomics co-expression network, the acclimation of Poa crymophila to the two stresses was characterized. (1) The genes and metabolites with stress tolerance were induced by cold and drought, while those related with growth were inhibited, and most of them were restored faster after stresses disappeared. In particular, the genes for the photosynthesis system had strong resilience. (2) Additionally, cold and drought activated hypoxia and UV-B adaptation genes, indicating long-term life on the plateau could produce special adaptations. (3) Phenolamines, polyamines, and amino acids, especially N',N″,N'″-p-coumaroyl-cinnamoyl-caffeoyl spermidine, putrescine, and arginine, play key roles in harsh environments. Flexible response and quick recovery are strategies for adaptation to drought and cold in P. crymophila, accounting for its robust tolerance and resilience. In this study, we presented a comprehensive stress response profile of P. crymophila and provided many candidate genes or metabolites for future forage improvement.

RESUMEN

Herein, a novel molecule S4, which could form a uniform S4 spherical aggregate in water, was synthesized, and the S4 aggregate was used to load Dox to prepare the S4@Dox nanomedicine. The loading efficiency was 80.0 ± 4.5%. The pH response and slow release of Dox were the typical characteristics of the S4@Dox nanomedicine. In vitro experiments showed that cancer cells could successfully phagocytose S4 aggregates and the S4@Dox nanomedicine. The toxicity of S4 aggregates to MCF-7, HepG2, and H22 cells was low, and the S4@Dox nanomedicine had better antitumor activity and specific targeting, especially to the MCF-7 cells. The antitumor activity in vivo and in the tissue section showed that the S4@Dox nanomedicine could significantly reduce Dox toxicity, effectively induce the apoptosis of cancer cells, and effectively inhibit tumor growth, which showed that the nanomedicine had better antitumor activity.

RESUMEN

Titanium (Ti) is an element beneficial to plant growth. Application of titanium to roots or leaves at low concentrations can improve crop yield and performance. However, the effect of titanium ions on the bulk soil microbial community of planted crops remains unclear. This study aimed to explore the effects of titanium on soil bacterial and fungal communities. Field surveys were conducted to determine the effect of titanium ions on bulk soil microbial communities in pitaya and grape plantations of Panzhihua and Xichang areas, respectively. Full-length 16S rRNA and internal transcribed spacer (ITS) amplicon sequencing were performed using PacBio Sequel to further explore the composition and structure of soil microbiota. The application of titanium ions significantly altered the composition and structure of soil microbiota. Root irrigation with titanium ions in pitaya gardens reduced the diversity of soil fungi and bacteria. However, the decline in bacterial diversity was not statistically significant. Meanwhile, foliar spray of titanium ions on grapes greatly reduced the soil microbial diversity. The bulk soil microbiota had a core of conserved taxa, and titanium ions significantly altered their relative abundances. Furthermore, the application of titanium increased the interaction network of soil fungi and bacteria compared with the control group. Thus, titanium ions potentially improve the stability of the soil microbial community. IMPORTANCE Pitaya and grape are important cash crops in the Panzhihua and Xichang areas, respectively, where they are well adapted. Titanium is a plant growth-promoting element, but the interaction between titanium and soil microorganisms is poorly understood. Titanium ions are still not widely used for growing pitaya and grape in the two regions. Thus, we investigated the effects of titanium ions on soil microbial communities of the two fruit crops in these two regions. Microbial diversity decreased, and the community structure changed; however, the addition of titanium ions enhanced cooccurrence relationships and improved the stability of the community. This study provides a basis for the importance of titanium ion application in crop cultivation.

RESUMEN

Ammonium dihydrogen phosphate (NH4H2PO4) was used as an activator and co-dopant to induce the synthesis of N, P co-doped porous carbon nanosheets (NPCNs) from pomelo peel for using as high-performance supercapacitors. Pomelo peel has a unique sponge-like structure in which NH4H2PO4 particles can be evenly embedded. The pore structure and heteroatomic doping amount of NPCNs were controlled by adjusting the pyrolysis temperature. As a result, the optimal sample exhibits high specific capacitance (314 ± 2.6 F g-1) and rate capability (82% of capacitance retention at 20 A g-1). NPCNs-750 was further employed in a symmetrical supercapacitor (NPCNs-750//NPCNs-750 SSC) with 2 M Li2SO4 electrolyte, and exhibits a high energy density of 36 ± 1.5 W h kg-1 at a power density of 1000 W kg-1, with excellent cycling stability with 99% retention after 10,000 cycles. A series of excellent results show that this pollution-free and cost-effective method can be used for the design and preparation of high-performance supercapacitor electrode materials.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: It remains controversial if endovascular treatment (EVT) can improve the outcome of patients with acute basilar artery occlusion (BAO). This study aims to compare the functional outcomes between EVT with and without intravenous thrombolysis (IVT) first in patients who had acute ischaemic stroke (AIS) due to BAO. METHODS: Patients who had AIS with BAO who underwent EVT within 24 hours of onset were enrolled in this multicentre cohort study, and the efficacy and safety were compared between IVT+EVT and direct EVT. The primary outcome was 90-day functional independence. All outcomes were assessed with adjusted OR (aOR) from the multivariable logistic regression. In addition, a meta-analysis was performed on all recently published pivotal studies on functional independence after EVT in patients with BAO. RESULTS: Of 310 enrolled patients with BAO, 241 (78%) were treated with direct EVT and 69 (22%) with IVT+EVT. Direct EVT was associated with a worse functional outcome (aOR, 0.46 (95% CI 0.24 to 0.85), p=0.01). IVT+EVT was associated with a lower percentage of patients who needed ≥3 passes of stent retriever (10.14% vs 20.75%). The meta-analysis regression revealed a potential positive correlation between bridging with IVT first and functional independence (r=0.14 (95% CI 0.05 to 0.24), p<0.01). CONCLUSIONS: This study showed that compared with direct EVT, EVT with IVT first was associated with better functional outcomes in patients with BAO treated within 24 hours of onset. The meta-analysis demonstrated similar favourable efficacy of IVT first followed by EVT in patients with BAO.

RESUMEN

Objective To analyze the radiological features of idiopathic pediatric meningiomas and explore their relationships with pathological grading, misdiagnoses, and blood loss during surgery. Methods We retrospectively reviewed 29 cases of pathologically confirmed pediatric meningiomas with pre-operative magnetic resonance imaging in Beijing Tiantan Hospital from November 2014 to July 2018.We assessed the imaging features to explore their relationships with pathological grading, misdiagnoses, and blood loss during surgery. Results Among the 29 cases,7 intraparenchymal meningiomas,5 extraparenchymal meningiomas,4 ventricular meningiomas, and 1 transcranial meningioma were misdiagnosed.Tumor location was significantly associated with possibility of misdiagnoses(P=0.021),and intraparenchymal tumors were most likely to be misdiagnosed.Twelve patients had positive dural tail sign, and 4 of them were misdiagnosed;16 patients did not have dural tail sign, and 12 of them were misdiagnosed.Fisher exact test showed that positive dural tail sign was associated with decreased possibility of misdiagnoses(one-sided P=0.034).Univariable regression analysis showed that the feature of tumor surrounding arteries or interfering with veins(P=0.020)and the tumor maximum diameter(P=0.001)had positively linear relationships with blood loss volume during surgery.Combining these two variables, the multivariable regression model showed better fitting performance($R_{ad}^2$=0.468).Conclusions Pediatric meningiomas are extremely rare, with scarce radiological characteristics. They are hard to diagnose, and the intraparenchymal meningiomas are very likely to be misdiagnosed and therefore should be treated with extra caution.Among all the radiological features, tumor surrounding arteries or interfering with veins and tumor maximum diameter were associated with increased blood loss during surgery.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: To evaluate the diagnostic performance of T2 mapping in differentiating WHO grade II glioma from high-grade glioma (HGG). METHODS: We conducted a single-center, retrospective diagnostic study. Confirmed diffuse glioma (WHO grade II-IV) patients who underwent post-contrast T1-weighted imaging, T2-weighted imaging, and T2 mapping were included. All diagnoses were based on histological and molecular tests. Seventy-five percent of cases were subsampled to generate receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves and areas under the curve (AUC), while the remaining cases were used to test the accuracy of T2 mapping. Subsampling was repeated four times. Age, T2 relaxation time, and contrast-enhancement status were used to generate a multivariable ROC curve. T2 relaxation time was also used to generate ROC curves to predict the isocitrate dehydrogenase (IDH) status. RESULTS: A total of 159 patients were included in the study. After four repeats of subsampling, the AUCs of the T2 mapping ROC curve were 0.801 (95% CI: 0.724-0.879), 0.795 (95% CI: 0.714-0.875), 0.803 (95% CI: 0.723-0.884), and 0.801 (95% CI: 0.716-0.886), with an average sensitivity of 0.753 and an average specificity of 0.767. When applied to the remaining 25% of cases, the accuracy was 75%, 93.75%, 82.50%, and 71.74%. The AUC of the multivariable ROC was 0.927 (95% CI: 0.882-0.971). IDH-mutant and IDH-wildtype gliomas have significantly different T2 relaxation times (146.28 and 124.10 ms, respectively; P=0.001), and the AUC of IDH-mutant prediction was 0.687 (95% CI: 0.585-0.789). CONCLUSIONS: Quantitative T2 mapping differentiated WHO grade II glioma from HGG with moderate sensitivity and specificity. Given the advantages of short acquisition times and the absence of a contrast agent, our study suggests the application of T2 mapping in pre-operative glioma grading is feasible.

RESUMEN

Poa crymophila Keng is highly adaptable to long-term low temperature and drought conditions, making it a desirable foraging grass of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. Here, the widely targeted metabolomics and comparative transcriptome analyses were utilized for the discovery of metabolites and genes in P. crymophila in response to cold and drought stresses. P. crymophila were exposed to -5°C for 24 h and recovered to 22°C for 48 h, as well as drought for 10 days followed by re-watering for 1 day. In total, 779 metabolic features were assigned to metabolites and 167,845 unigenes were generated. Seventeen compounds showed significant up-regulation (variable importance in project >1) under both stresses in the metabolic profiling, mainly annotated as carbohydrates, flavones, and phenylpropanoids. The genes which were positively correlated with these metabolites were assigned to pathways (sucrose-starch, raffinose, phenylpropanoid, and flavone metabolism) using the Mapman software package. Alpha-amylase, beta-fructofuranosidase, and sugar transport genes degraded the glucose and starch to small molecule sugars for the purpose of osmotic adjustment and to provide more energy for the growth of P. crymophila in an adverse environment. The induction of cinnamoyl-CoA reductase (CCR) and the MYB gene as well as the sharp increase in schizandrin, a kind of lignan, showed that this likely has the closest connection with the tolerance to both stresses. Four significantly induced flavone compounds are probably involved in reducing oxidative damage. Our results indicated that activation of the phenlypropanoid pathway plays the primary role in P. crymophila adapting to harsh environments. This study showed the mechanism of P. crymophila responding to both cold and drought stresses and showed the discovery of a new biological regulator against stresses.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Intraluminal thrombus (ILT) is an emerging imaging marker in acute ischemic stroke. We aimed to investigate the association of ILT with outcomes of acute large vessel occlusion (LVO) patients receiving endovascular treatment. METHODS: Acute LVO stroke patients who underwent endovascular treatment within 24 hours, in a prospective, nationwide registry were enrolled. Pretreatment digital subtraction angiography was reviewed for the presence of ILT. The primary outcome was 90-day functional dependence (modified Rankin Scale scores, 3-6). Secondary outcomes included 24-hour LVO, 90-day death, and symptomatic intracranial hemorrhage. RESULTS: Among 711 patients enrolled, 75 (10.5%) with ILT were less likely to have 90-day functional dependence compared with those without ILT (adjusted odds ratio, 0.53 [95% CI, 0.31-0.90]; P=0.021). The same trend was found among those with successful reperfusion (modified Thrombolysis in Cerebral Infarction 2b-3; P=0.008) but not in those without successful reperfusion (P=0.107). Presence of ILT was also independently associated with a lower rate of 24-hour LVO (adjusted odds ratio 0.34 [95% CI, 0.13-0.89]; P=0.028). However, those with or without ILT had similar risks of symptomatic intracranial hemorrhage and 90-day death. CONCLUSIONS: Among acute LVO patients receiving endovascular treatment, pretreatment ILT-positive patients may have a better 90-day functional outcome (versus ILT-negative) but similar risk of death and symptomatic intracranial hemorrhage. The possibly favorable effect of ILT patients remained in those with successful reperfusion. Registration: URL: http://www.chictr.org.cn; Unique identifier: ChiCTR1900022154.

RESUMEN

Background To investigate whether collateral status could modify the associations between post-thrombectomy blood pressure (BP) measures and outcomes. Methods and Results Patients with anterior-circulation large-vessel-occlusion successfully recanalized in a multicenter endovascular thrombectomy registry were enrolled. Pretreatment collateral status was graded and dichotomized (good/poor) in angiography. Maximum, minimum, and mean systolic BP (SBP) and BP variability (assessed by the SD, coefficient of variation) during the initial 24 hours after endovascular thrombectomy were obtained. The primary outcome was unfavorable 90-day outcome (modified Rankin Scale score 3-6). Secondary outcomes included symptomatic intracranial hemorrhage and 90-day mortality. Adjusted odds ratios (aOR) of BP parameters over the outcomes were obtained in all patients and in patients with good/poor collaterals. Among 596 patients (mean age 66 years; 59.9% males), 302 (50.7%) patients had unfavorable 90-day outcome. In multivariable analyses, higher mean SBP (aOR, 1.59 per 10 mm Hg increment; 95% CI, 1.26-2.02; P<0.001), mean SBP >140 mm Hg (versus ≤120 mm Hg; aOR, 4.27; 95% CI, 1.66-10.97; P=0.002), and higher SBP SD (aOR, 1.08 per 1-SD increment; 95% CI, 1.01-1.16; P=0.02) were respectively associated with unfavorable 90-day outcome in patients with poor collateral but not in those with good collateral. A marginal interaction between SBP coefficient of variation tertiles and collaterals on 90-day functional outcome (P for interaction, 0.09) was observed. A significant interaction between SBP coefficient of variation tertiles and collaterals on 90-day mortality (P for interaction, 0.03) was observed. Conclusions Higher postprocedural BP is associated with 90-day unfavorable outcomes after successful endovascular thrombectomy in patients with poor collateral. RESUMEN

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: We aimed to evaluate the impact of cortical microinfarcts (CMIs) on functional outcome after endovascular treatment in patients with acute ischemic stroke. METHODS: In a multicenter registration study for RESCUE-RE (a registration study for Critical Care of Acute Ischemic Stroke After Recanalization), eligible patients with large vessel occlusion stroke receiving endovascular treatment, who had undergone 3T magnetic resonance imaging on admission or within 24 hours after endovascular treatment were analyzed. We evaluated the presence and numbers of CMIs with assessment of axial T1, T2-weighted images, and fluid-attenuated inversion recovery images. The primary outcome was functional dependence or death defined as modified Rankin Scale scores of 3 to 6 at 90 days. Secondary outcomes included early neurological improvement, any intracranial hemorrhage, symptomatic intracranial hemorrhage, and mortality. We investigated the independent associations of CMIs with the outcomes using multivariable logistic regression in overall patients and in subgroups. RESULTS: Among 414 patients (enrolled from July 2018 to May 2019) included in the analyses, 96 (23.2%) patients had at least one CMI (maximum 6). Patients with CMI(s) were more likely to be functionally dependent or dead at 90 days, compared with those without (55.2% versus 37.4%; P<0.01). In multivariable logistic regression analyses, presence of CMI(s) (adjusted odds ratio, 1.78 [95% CI, 1.04-3.07]; P=0.04) and multiple CMIs (CMIs ≥2; adjusted odds ratio, 7.41 [95% CI, 2.48-22.17]; P<0.001) were independently, significantly associated with the primary outcome. There was no significant difference between subgroups in the associations between CMI presence and the primary outcome. CONCLUSIONS: Acute large vessel occlusion stroke patients receiving endovascular treatment with CMI(s) were more likely to have a poor functional outcome at 90 days, independent of patients' characteristics. Such associations may be dose-dependent. Registration: URL: http://www.chictr.org.cn; Unique identifier: ChiCTR1900022154.
