RESUMEN

Photocatalytic oxidation is an efficient and promising technology for reducing indoor pollution levels of formaldehyde (HCHO). However, developing efficient and low-cost photocatalysts for the removal of HCHO remains challenging due to the time-consuming and expensive nature of traditional "trial and error" and "directed research" approaches. To achieve this goal, first-principles density functional theory (DFT) calculations were conducted to high-throughput screen candidate TM-C3N6 photocatalysts for high-performance degradation of HCHO. The results revealed that Zr-C3N6 and Hf-C3N6 in functionalizing C3N6 with 28 transition metals showed excellent adsorption energy of HCHO, boosting the highly effective capture of HCHO. Meanwhile, an excellent adsorption performance mechanism was further elicited by the electric structure-property relationship. In addition, reaction mechanisms for HCHO degradation and three potential reaction pathways for HCHO degradation were systematically evaluated. Our findings indicated that hydroxyl-assisted dehydrogenation and oxygen-assisted dehydrogenation are the most favorable pathways, with rate-limiting steps involving the formation of ˙OH and ˙O radicals. Overall, this study may provide new insights into a high-throughput screening of novel photocatalysts that are both high-performing and low-cost for the removal of formaldehyde. This, in turn, can accelerate the experimental development process and reduce the associated costs and time consumption.

RESUMEN

The present work focuses on the synthesis and properties of a novel multifunctional cerium(III) MOF, [Ce2(data)3(DMF)4]·DMF (data2-: 2,5-diaminoterephthalate), abbreviated as NH2-Ce-MUM-2. Its crystal structure reveals an intricate 3D 4,5-connected framework with a xah topology. This MOF features unique properties, such as open metal sites, presence of free amino groups, and high stability. Two main applications of NH2-Ce-MUM-2 were investigated: (i) as a heterogeneous catalyst in the CO2 fixation into cyclic carbonates and (ii) as a material with third-order nonlinear optical activity. As a model reaction, the cycloaddition of CO2 to propylene oxide to give the corresponding cyclic carbonate was explored under mild conditions, at the atmospheric pressure of carbon dioxide and in the absence of cocatalyst and added solvent. Various reaction parameters were investigated toward optimization and exploration of substrate scope, revealing up to 99% product yields of cyclic carbonate products. Besides, the structure of NH2-Ce-MUM-2 is highly stable, permitting its recyclability and reusability in further catalytic experiments. The significant contributions of free amino groups and open metal sites within this catalyst were particularly considered when proposing a potential mechanism for the reaction. Z-Scan measurements were used to evaluate the nonlinear optical (NLO) properties of NH2-Ce-MUM-2 at various laser intensities. A high two-photon absorption (TPA) under greater incident intensities shows that NH2-Ce-MUM-2 might be applicable in optical switching devices. Besides, the self-focusing effects of NH2-Ce-MUM-2 under various incident intensities were highlighted by the nonlinear index of refraction (n2). By reporting the synthesis and characterization of a novel MOF, along with its highly promising catalytic and NLO behavior, the current study introduces an additional example of multifunctional material into a growing family of metal-organic frameworks.

RESUMEN

Histone lysine-specific demethylase 1 (LSD1) is a promising target for cancer therapy. Here, we performed the design, synthesis, and extensive structure-activity relationship (SAR) studies based on our previously discovered natural LSD1 inhibitor, higenamine. We found that the tetracyclic tetrahydroisoquinoline FY-21 is a potent and selective inhibitor of LSD1 (IC50 = 340 nM). FY-21 inhibited leukemia cell proliferation and colony formation and increased the level of p53 expression. Meanwhile, FY-21 reduced the mRNA levels of the transcription factors HOXA9 and MEIS1. Furthermore, FY-21 significantly induced leukemia cell differentiation. In vivo studies showed that FY-21 prolonged the survival rate of leukemia mice. Collectively, FY-21 is a potent, selective LSD1 inhibitor and can serve as a lead compound for the development of novel and highly effective LSD1 inhibitors for AML treatment.

RESUMEN

Interfacial solar-driven steam generation has been proposed as a cost-effective green sustainable technology to alleviate the freshwater crisis. However, the desire to produce clean water from water sources containing organic contaminants is still remains a challenge due to the limitations of the traditional wastewater treatment methods. Here, we constructed a g-C3N4-based composite sponge solar steam generator (rGCPP) by a simple hydrothermal reaction. Benefiting from its low cost and easy preparation, this evaporator can be expected to be a promising candidate for the alleviation of water shortages and water pollution in practical applications. By combination of the solar steam generation and the photocatalysis into the rGCPP-based interfacial solar-driven steam generation system, the resulted rGCPP-based solar steam generator performs outstanding solar absorption of 90.8%, which achieves high evaporation rate of 1.875 kg m-2 h-1 and solar-to-vapor efficiency of 81.07% under 1 sun irradiation. Meanwhile, organic pollutants in the water source can be completely removed by photocatalytic degradation and the degradation rates were measured to be 99.20% for methylene blue and 91.07% for rhodamine B, respectively. Consequently, the as-prepared composite sponge has promising applications in generating clean water and alleviating water pollution.
