RESUMEN

Objective: To understand the cognitive emotion regulation strategies of college students after suffering from negative events in the life. Methods: The Cognitive Emotion Regulation Questionnaire was used for a survey in 472 college students born after 2000 and 343 college students born before 2000. Results: In the face of negative events, the college students born after 2000 usually adopted the strategies of positive appraisal, thinking differently, self-blame, rumination, catastrophizing, complaining others, the difference was significant (P<0.05). There was a gender specific difference in the use of the cognitive emotion regulation strategies, boys were more likely to choose complaining others and catastrophizing than girls, girls were more likely to have positive appraisal than boys, the difference was significant (P<0.05). Conclusion: In the use of the cognitive emotion regulationstrategies, there are obvious differences between college students born after 2000 and college students born before 2000. Age characteristics of the college students must be taken into account in the development of education programs.

RESUMEN

The scattering of dark matter (DM) particles with sub-GeV masses off nuclei is difficult to detect using liquid xenon-based DM search instruments because the energy transfer during nuclear recoils is smaller than the typical detector threshold. However, the tree-level DM-nucleus scattering diagram can be accompanied by simultaneous emission of a bremsstrahlung photon or a so-called "Migdal" electron. These provide an electron recoil component to the experimental signature at higher energies than the corresponding nuclear recoil. The presence of this signature allows liquid xenon detectors to use both the scintillation and the ionization signals in the analysis where the nuclear recoil signal would not be otherwise visible. We report constraints on spin-independent DM-nucleon scattering for DM particles with masses of 0.4-5 GeV/c^{2} using 1.4×10^{4} kg day of search exposure from the 2013 data from the Large Underground Xenon (LUX) experiment for four different classes of mediators. This analysis extends the reach of liquid xenon-based DM search instruments to lower DM masses than has been achieved previously.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Tong-Xie-Yao-Fang (TXYF) is a Chinese herbal formula for treating chronic diarrhoea accompanied by abdominal pain. The results were inconsistent in previous trials examining its effect. AIM: To study the efficacy of TXYF granules for treating diarrhoea-predominant irritable bowel syndrome (IBS-D). METHODS: We performed a double-blind, placebo-controlled randomised trial and enrolled 160 participants with IBS-D. The participants had VAS scores ≥3 cm in IBS-D global symptoms and ≥2 days in a week with abdominal pain and loose stools (Bristol score 5, 6 or 7). They were randomly assigned to received TXYF or placebo during a treatment period of 4 weeks, and they were followed up for 8 weeks after treatment. The primary outcome was adequate relief of IBS-D global symptoms for at least 2 of 4 weeks during weeks 1-4. Secondary outcomes included mean weekly VAS scores of IBS-D major symptoms, mean weekly stool frequency, mean weekly Bristol score, and adverse events. RESULTS: 155 of 160 patients completed the trial. We found a significantly higher rate of adequate relief of global symptoms in TXFY group during weeks 1 to 4 (57.5% vs 37.5%, χ2 = 5.6391, P = 0.017); logistic regression analysis showed a similar result (OR 2.2, 95% CI 1.2-4.4, P = 0.016). Most of the secondary outcomes showed superiority of TXYF over placebo in weekly assessment from week 3 to week 7. The adverse event rate was low in both groups (3.8% vs 3.8%, P = 1.000). CONCLUSION: During a 4 week trial, TXFY granules were superior to placebo in controlling symptoms of IBS-D.

RESUMEN

We present experimental constraints on the spin-dependent WIMP-nucleon elastic cross sections from the total 129.5 kg yr exposure acquired by the Large Underground Xenon experiment (LUX), operating at the Sanford Underground Research Facility in Lead, South Dakota (USA). A profile likelihood ratio analysis allows 90% C.L. upper limits to be set on the WIMP-neutron (WIMP-proton) cross section of σ_{n}=1.6×10^{-41} cm^{2} (σ_{p}=5×10^{-40} cm^{2}) at 35 GeV c^{-2}, almost a sixfold improvement over the previous LUX spin-dependent results. The spin-dependent WIMP-neutron limit is the most sensitive constraint to date.

RESUMEN

The first searches for axions and axionlike particles with the Large Underground Xenon experiment are presented. Under the assumption of an axioelectric interaction in xenon, the coupling constant between axions and electrons g_{Ae} is tested using data collected in 2013 with an exposure totaling 95 live days ×118 kg. A double-sided, profile likelihood ratio statistic test excludes g_{Ae} larger than 3.5×10^{-12} (90% C.L.) for solar axions. Assuming the Dine-Fischler-Srednicki-Zhitnitsky theoretical description, the upper limit in coupling corresponds to an upper limit on axion mass of 0.12 eV/c^{2}, while for the Kim-Shifman-Vainshtein-Zhakharov description masses above 36.6 eV/c^{2} are excluded. For galactic axionlike particles, values of g_{Ae} larger than 4.2×10^{-13} are excluded for particle masses in the range 1-16 keV/c^{2}. These are the most stringent constraints to date for these interactions.

RESUMEN

We report constraints on spin-independent weakly interacting massive particle (WIMP)-nucleon scattering using a 3.35×10^{4} kg day exposure of the Large Underground Xenon (LUX) experiment. A dual-phase xenon time projection chamber with 250 kg of active mass is operated at the Sanford Underground Research Facility under Lead, South Dakota (USA). With roughly fourfold improvement in sensitivity for high WIMP masses relative to our previous results, this search yields no evidence of WIMP nuclear recoils. At a WIMP mass of 50 GeV c^{-2}, WIMP-nucleon spin-independent cross sections above 2.2×10^{-46} cm^{2} are excluded at the 90% confidence level. When combined with the previously reported LUX exposure, this exclusion strengthens to 1.1×10^{-46} cm^{2} at 50 GeV c^{-2}.

RESUMEN

We present constraints on weakly interacting massive particles (WIMP)-nucleus scattering from the 2013 data of the Large Underground Xenon dark matter experiment, including 1.4×10^{4} kg day of search exposure. This new analysis incorporates several advances: single-photon calibration at the scintillation wavelength, improved event-reconstruction algorithms, a revised background model including events originating on the detector walls in an enlarged fiducial volume, and new calibrations from decays of an injected tritium ß source and from kinematically constrained nuclear recoils down to 1.1 keV. Sensitivity, especially to low-mass WIMPs, is enhanced compared to our previous results which modeled the signal only above a 3 keV minimum energy. Under standard dark matter halo assumptions and in the mass range above 4 GeV c^{-2}, these new results give the most stringent direct limits on the spin-independent WIMP-nucleon cross section. The 90% C.L. upper limit has a minimum of 0.6 zb at 33 GeV c^{-2} WIMP mass.

RESUMEN

We present experimental constraints on the spin-dependent WIMP (weakly interacting massive particle)-nucleon elastic cross sections from LUX data acquired in 2013. LUX is a dual-phase xenon time projection chamber operating at the Sanford Underground Research Facility (Lead, South Dakota), which is designed to observe the recoil signature of galactic WIMPs scattering from xenon nuclei. A profile likelihood ratio analysis of 1.4×10^{4} kg day of fiducial exposure allows 90% C.L. upper limits to be set on the WIMP-neutron (WIMP-proton) cross section of σ_{n}=9.4×10^{-41} cm^{2} (σ_{p}=2.9×10^{-39} cm^{2}) at 33 GeV/c^{2}. The spin-dependent WIMP-neutron limit is the most sensitive constraint to date.

RESUMEN

MicroRNAs (miRNA) are small noncoding RNAs that are critical regulators of gene function. In the recent years, miRNAs have been increasingly noted for their capacity to regulate key malignant properties of tumor cells. MicroRNA-128 (miR-128) is a brain-enriched miRNA that is normally involved in the development of the nervous system and in the maintenance of neural physiological functions. In tumorcells, miR-128 expression is dysregulated through a variety of genetic and epigenetic events. Dysregulation: of miR-128 has profound effects on tumorigenesis and maintenance of tumor cells through alterations in cellular proliferation, differentiation, metabolism, and apoptosis. This article will review the latest advances in our understanding of miR-128, specifically in the context of clinical and fundamental cancer biology. Further characterization of miR-128 will likely identify its new roles in cancer biology. The use of miR-128 as a diagnostic and/or therapeutic tool may result in improvements in diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment of numerous cancers.

RESUMEN

The Large Underground Xenon (LUX) experiment is a dual-phase xenon time-projection chamber operating at the Sanford Underground Research Facility (Lead, South Dakota). The LUX cryostat was filled for the first time in the underground laboratory in February 2013. We report results of the first WIMP search data set, taken during the period from April to August 2013, presenting the analysis of 85.3 live days of data with a fiducial volume of 118 kg. A profile-likelihood analysis technique shows our data to be consistent with the background-only hypothesis, allowing 90% confidence limits to be set on spin-independent WIMP-nucleon elastic scattering with a minimum upper limit on the cross section of 7.6 × 10(-46) cm(2) at a WIMP mass of 33 GeV/c(2). We find that the LUX data are in disagreement with low-mass WIMP signal interpretations of the results from several recent direct detection experiments.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Helicobacter pylori , the main cause of chronic gastritis, is a class 1 gastric carcinogen. However, it remains unclear whether H. pylori affects molecular alterations in chronic gastritis. Thus, this study was designed to investigate the effect of H. pylori eradication on the expression of human telomerase RNA (hTR), human telomerase reverse transcriptase (hTERT), c-myc and proliferation nuclear cell antigen (PCNA) in H. pylori associated chronic gastritis. MATERIALS AND METHODS: hTR was determined by in situ hybridization, hTERT, c-myc and PCNA were detected by immunohistochemistry using stomach tissues obtained from 39 H. pylori-infected and 21 H. pylori-negative patients with chronic gastritis before and after H. pylori eradication therapy or treatment for symptom relief only. RESULTS: Levels of hTR, hTERT, c-myc and PCNA were significantly higher in H. pylori-infected mucosa (51.3%, 53.8%, 53.8% and 16.8 +/- 5.8, respectively) when compared to H. pylori-negative mucosa before therapy (19.0%, 23.8%, 28.6%, 8.8 +/- 3.4, respectively; P < 0.05 in all cases). In patients with successful eradication of H. pylori the levels of hTR, hTERT, c-myc and PCNA (55.5%, 59.3%, 59.3%, 16.8 +/- 5.8, respectively) were significantly reduced after the therapy (22.2%, 22.2%, 14.8%, 7.0 +/- 5.0, respectively; P < 0.05 in all cases). In the H. pylori failed eradication and H. pylori-negative groups, there was no statistical difference in all four measurements. CONCLUSIONS: H. pylori infection may induce the overexpression of hTR, hTERT, c-myc and stimulate cell proliferation. Eradication of H. pylori may reverse the aberrant expression of these oncoproteins and thus correct the abnormal cell proliferation.

RESUMEN

The effects of cultural conditions, which were fermentation period when methanol was as sole carbon source, methanol concentration, range of pH, on the expression of the chimeric protein of Plasmodium falciparum in genetically engineered methylotrophic Pichia pastoris were investigated by shake flask experiments in this paper. The results showed: (1) fermentation period with methanol inducement is about 96 hours; (2) the optimum methanol concentration as sole carbon source is 10 g/L; (3) the range of pH is from 6.0 to 7.0. On the base of above experimental results the cell high-density fermentation had been done on the FMG-5L fermentor with multi-sensors. The results showed that the cell optical density (OD600) can reached 550 and the maximum expression level of target proteins was 780 mg/L which was 4 times higher or more than the shake flask culture's.

RESUMEN

Binary vectors pPATIs (with partial signal sequence) and pPATI (without signal sequence) were constructed by fusing 1.4 kb 5' flanking regions of Class I patatin gene with GUS. Transient GUS expression was observed in in vitro tuber slices bombarded with pPATI. These constructs were then introduced into potato (cv. Desiree) via Agrobacterium tumefaciens transformation. Transgenic potato plants were confirmed by X-Gluc staining and PCR. Using in vitro tuberization system, GUS activities were assayed by fluorescence. It was shown that, in plants transformed with PATI-GUS, GUS specific activities were about 10-20 fold higher in tubers than in stems. Increased sucrose concentration could not induce PATI-GUS expression, but light enhanced PATI-GUS expression in cultured shoots.

RESUMEN

40 SD rats were randomly divided into control group, ethanol-induced injury group and taurine protective group for the measurement of the contents of endothelin (ET), nitric oxide synthetase (NOS), somatostatin (SS) and vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP). The results are as follows. The gastric mucosa was damaged by 75% ethanol, being aggravated with prolonged application time, as shown by a significant increase of the ET content and decreases of the contents of NOS, VIP and SS in the gastric mucosa. In the taurine group, decrease of ET content and increase of the contents of NOS, SS and VIP in the gastric mucosa were observed. Apparently, the changes in ET, NOS, SS and VIP contents of gastric mucosa serve as reliable indices in the pathogenesis by ethanol and protective effect by taurine.

RESUMEN

The co-metabolism of citrate plus xylose by Leuconostoc mesenteroides subsp. mesenteroides results in a growth stimulation, an increase in D-lactate and acetate production and repression of ethanol production. This correlated well with the levels of key enzymes involved. A partial repression of alcohol dehydrogenase and a marked stimulation of acetate kinase were observed. High citrate bioconversion yields in diacetyl plus acetoin were obtained at pH 5.2 in batch (11.5%) or in chemostat (up to 17.4%) culture. In contrast, no diacetyl or acetoin was detected in citrate plus glucose fermentation.

RESUMEN

A review of 113 patients with massive burns treated in our centre from 1970 to 1989 is presented. There were 57 adults patients with massive burns (> or = 50 per cent TBSA) in 1980-89 who were compared with 56 patients with similar massive burns in the period between 1970 and 1979. The results show a significant improvement (P < 0.01) in survival rate of the more recent patients. The increased survival rate is attributed to improvements in the early treatment of inhalation injury, sepsis and multiorgan failure.

RESUMEN

We have developed a method to isolate RNA in high yield from adult articular cartilage. Homogenization of the articular cartilage with a freezer mill, extraction with 4 M guanidinium isothiocyanate/acid-phenol, and ultracentrifugation in cesium trifluoroacetate was found to be an effective and practical method for isolating a high yield of intact RNA from adult canine articular cartilage. The total RNA was suitable for Northern blot analysis. The mRNA that could then be isolated by oligo-dT affinity chromatography was found to be a suitable substrate for in vitro translation, for making a cDNA library, and for PCR amplification.

RESUMEN

Measurement of mRNA in adult articular cartilage could define whether treatment with nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drugs affects the rate of proteoglycan synthesis in vivo in osteoarthritis. We studied a variety of extraction and isolation methods to obtain a high yield of pure mRNA from adult articular cartilage. By combining a single step extraction procedure, precipitation in 0.8 M LiCl and poly d-T affinity isolation, we obtained pure mRNA that hybridized with a cDNA probe for the large aggregating proteoglycan. Thus, it should be feasible to assess the level of message using polymerase chain reaction technology; it is unlikely that northern blots, slot blots, or RNA protection assays can be performed directly on the small specimens of articular cartilage that are available from experimental model studies or from surgical specimens.
