RESUMEN

Climbing is an Olympic discipline in full development and multidisciplinary in nature, where the influences of body composition and nutritional status on performance have not yet been clarified despite the quest for a low weight in anti-gravity disciplines such as climbing. The present cross-sectional study aimed to conduct nutritional (3-day dietary diaries) and body composition (ISAK profile) assessments on sport climbing athletes by gender and climbing level during the months of February and March 2024. The t-test for independent samples and the Mann-Whitney U-test, as well as an ANOVA and the Kruskal-Wallis H-test, were used to compare the distributions of two or more groups, respectively, and Pearson's and Spearman's correlation coefficients were used to estimate the correlations between the different variables. The mean age of the 46 Spanish climbers (22 men and 24 women) was 30 years (SD: 9) with 7.66 years of experience (SD: 6.63). The mean somatotype of the athletes was classified as balanced mesomorph. Negative correlations were observed between fat mass variables and climbing level (p < 0.010), and positive correlations were observed with forearm circumference (p < 0.050). The mean energy availability (EA) was 33.01 kcal-kg FFM-1d-1 (SD: 9.02), with 55.6% of athletes having a suboptimal EA status and 35.6% having low energy availability (LEA). The carbohydrate and protein intakes were below the recommendations in 57.8% and 31.1% of athletes, respectively. There were deficient intakes of all micronutrients except phosphorus in males. These findings suggest that climbing athletes are at a high risk of developing low energy availability states and concomitant problems. Optimal nutritional monitoring may be advisable in this type of athlete to try to reduce the risk of LEA.

RESUMEN

It is widely acknowledged that demand for clinical services at university and college counseling centers (CCs) has increased over the last several years. CCs have had to adapt service delivery methods to meet the demand for services. One of the more recent developments in CCs lies in providing primary (preventive) interventions to the campus at-large through outreach and preventive programming. These interventions are aimed toward reducing demand as opposed to promoting services and gathering potential clients. This article describes changes in outreach delivery in 3 ways. First, descriptions of some of the more prevalent and proactive outreach activities are given. Brief explanations concerning the increased emphasis on social justice, large-scale events, campus partnerships, liaison programs, satellite offices-embedded models, uses of electronic and technological advances, postvention and community response, and topic-specific programming are given. Second, the changing administrative functions of those in charge of outreach at individual CCs is described. Last, a description of the establishment and ongoing need for a national organization for outreach administrators and professionals is outlined. Recent survey data completed by outreach professionals are also discussed, as are future directions and implications for how CCs quantify training and direct service activities. RESUMEN

INTRODUCTION: The carotid ultrasonography could be used to assess the effects of therapeutic pharmacology in the Takayasu's arteritis (TA). CASE PRESENTATION: 21-year-old female with a pulsatile headache and high blood pressure. There were difference in the blood pressure between arms and a bruit over the carotid and subclavian region. The CT angiography demonstrated arterial wall thickening of nearly the whole aorta and its branches. We diagnosed the patient as having AT. The immunosuppressive therapy was started. The thickening of the left common carotid artery decreased from 2.5 to 1.5 mm. DISCUSSION: TA is a large vessel vasculitis characterized by adventitial thickening, cellular infiltration of the tunica media, and intimal hyperplasia leading to marked vessel wall thickening, Ultrasonography is a noninvasive and effective method for evaluating the carotid arteries in patients with this disease and may be a useful method for follow-up of anatomic and hemodynamic changes in response to immunosuppressive therapy.

RESUMEN

Rare neuromuscular diseases (NDs) are a group of inherited or acquired neurological pathologies affecting the muscles and the nervous system. Their low prevalence and high geographical dispersion can cause isolation and difficulties in social interaction between affected equals. New technologies, such as videoconferencing, offer a complementary option for improving the health of this population. The purpose of this study was to assess the effectiveness of a teleassistance program at improving health-related quality of life (HRQoL) through social interaction in adults with NDs. The sample consisted of 45 participants affected by rare NDs. Twenty-four participants were assigned to the experimental group (EG), which participated in the videoconferencing sessions, and 21 to the control group. Three questionnaires were administered: WHO-DAS II, Sickness Impact Profile, and SF-36 Health Survey. Effectiveness was assessed by a pre-post design. An online psychosocial program was applied over three-month period. Data revealed an improvement of the EG in psychosocial variables, e.g. «Getting along with people» (z = -2.289, r = -.47, p ≤ .05) or «Psychosocial Domain» (z = -2.404, r = -.49, p ≤ .05), and in physical variables, e.g. «Life activities» (z = -2.844, r = -.58, p ≤ .05). Social interaction appeared as a relevant factor at improving HRQoL levels. High levels of satisfaction about the teleassistance program were reported (AU)

RESUMEN

Myasthenia is an autoimmune disease of neuromuscular transmission. This disease is typically characterised by muscle weakness, which is exacerbated by the performance of certain activities or exercise; patients usually recover with rest. Some studies have noted that people with myasthenia gravis have significantly higher depression scores than control participants. Extended experience with neuromuscular disease symptoms has been correlated with mood disorder symptoms. The present study measured and compared the presence of depression, anxiety and self-efficacy as well as the relationships among these variables in people with myasthenia gravis. An evaluation scale for this disease was specifically adapted. A total of 52 participants with myasthenia gravis were given two tests: the HAD questionnaire, which measures depression, and the general self-efficacy questionnaire (GSE). This study found a significantly correlation between anxiety and depression in people with myasthenia gravis. A correlation between self-efficacy and depression was also observed (AU)

The paper presents the results of an investigation Project UBACYT (Programming 2010/12) "Consumption of psychoactive substances and expectancies towards alcohol in school children between 8 and 12 years old". The paper studies a clinical sample that receives psychological assistance in a Child Clinical Psychology Unit that depends on Segunda Cátedra de Psicoanálisis: Escuela Inglesa, Facultad de Psicología, Universidad de Buenos Aires, Argentina. It investigates the consumption of these substances in children and their responsible adults. The samples are composed of 55 children (17 girls and 38 boys) and 55 responsible adults (47 women and 8 men). The CORIN (Children Risk Behavior) was administrated to the children, it evaluates risk situations regarding to the use of psychoactive substances in school children; a questionnaire that inquires consumption habits was administrated to parents or responsible adults of these children. Also, a protocol of sociodemographic information was used in order to gather and systematize the information of the medical history. Results and conclusions: the presence of occasional alcohol consumption in the 33% of the children sample was recorded. The existence of alcohol consumption in previous ages than the ones studied by governmental agencies. It must be mentioned that the children have consumed alcohol in festive situations and in company of their responsible adults. Regarding to the responsible adults of these children, important proportions of lifetime, year and month prevalence of occasional alcohol and tobacco consumption were recorded; also the abusive consumption of these substances. The registered proportions of the consumption of illegal substances are much lower. The study shows an increase in the occasional consumption of alcohol in children when the responsible adult made an abusive use of alcohol and tobacco during the last year and in less extent when the adult used more than one illegal substance (cocaine and marihuana). The consumption of alcohol in children increased significantly when the responsible adults had made abusive use of alcohol in the last month. It is inferred that the occasional consumption of alcohol in children of the age range studied, is associated with the characteristics of their family background and the consumption habits of the responsible adults.
