RESUMEN

Breast cancer (BC) is one of the most common types of cancer disease worldwide and it accounts for thousands of deaths annually. Lapatinib is among the preferred drugs for the treatment of breast cancer. Possible drug toxicity effects of lapatinib can be controlled by real-time determination of the appropriate dose for a patient at the point of care. In this study, a novel highly sensitive polymeric nanobiosensor for lapatinib is presented. A composite of poly(anilino-co-4-aminobenzoic acid) co-polymer {poly(ANI-co-4-ABA)} and coffee extract-based green-synthesized indium nanoparticles (InNPs) was used to develop the sensor platform on a screen-printed carbon electrode (SPCE), i.e., SPCE||poly(ANI-co-4-ABA-InNPs). Cytochrome P450-3A4 (CYP3A4) enzyme and polyethylene glycol (PEG) were incorporated on the modified platform to produce the SPCE||poly(ANI-co-4-ABA-InNPs)|CYP3A4|PEG lapatinib nanobiosensor. Experiments for the determination of the electrochemical response characteristics of the nanobiosensor were performed with cyclic voltammetry (CV) and differential pulse voltammetry (DPV). The nanobiosensor calibration for 0-100 ng/mL lapatinib was linear and gave limit of detection (LOD) values of 13.21 ng/mL lapatinib and 18.6 ng/mL lapatinib in physiological buffer and human serum, respectively. The LOD values are much lower than the peak plasma concentration (Cmax) of lapatinib (2.43 µg/mL), which is attained 4 h after the administration of a daily dose of 1250 mg lapatinib. The electrochemical nanobiosensor also exhibited excellent anti-interference performance and stability.

RESUMEN

Glutathione-capped copper sulfide (CuxSy) nanoparticles with two different average sizes were successfully achieved by using a simple reduction process that involves only changing the reaction temperature. Temperature-induced changes in the size of CuxSy nanoparticles resulted in particles with different optical, morphological, and electrochemical properties. The dependence of electrochemical sensing properties on the sizes of CuxSy nanoparticles was studied by using voltammetric and amperometric techniques. The spherical CuxSy nanoparticles with the average particle size of 25 ± 0.6 nm were found to be highly conductive as compared to CuxSy nanoparticles with the average particle size of 4.5 ± 0.2 nm. The spherical CuxSy nanoparticles exhibited a low bandgap energy (Eg) of 1.87 eV, resulting in superior electrochemical properties and improved electron transfer during glucose detection. The sensor showed a very good electrocatalytic activity toward glucose molecules in the presence of interference species such as uric acid (UA), ascorbic acid (AA), fructose, sodium chloride, and sucrose. These species are often present in low concentrations in the blood. The sensor demonstrated an excellent dynamic linear range between 0.2 to 16 mM, detection limit of 0.2 mM, and sensitivity of 0.013 mA/mM. The applicability of the developed sensor for real field determination of glucose was demonstrated by use of spiked blood samples, which confirmed that the developed sensor had great potential for real analysis of blood glucose levels.

RESUMEN

17ß-estradiol is used as a growth and fertility stimulant in the agronomic sector to induce fertility and manipulate reproductive characteristics in animals. However, unintended or unregulated distribution and exposure to even significant low levels of 17ß-estradiol estrogen have detrimental health implication that can lead to reproductive abnormalities and even cancer. This could have severe effect on the ecosystem imbalance, food safety, to such a degree that its health impact necessitates rapid methods to probe for its prevalence and occurrence in the environment. Herein a simple, robust, sensitive and once-off use electrochemical biosensor to detect 17ß-estradiol is developed, using 3-mercaptopropionic acid capped zinc selenide quantum dots trapped within the polyaniline (PANI) framework structure. The biosensor's interaction with the substrate was based on the capability of the hemeprotein, horseradish peroxidase (HRP) enzyme (i.e., baroreceptor) to alternatively catalyze phenolic alcohols. The biosensor displayed a significantly low limit of detection limit (LOD) of value 0.2 × 10-6 M towards 17ß-estradiol. The Mechaelis-Menten constant (Km) with the magnitude of 0.64 × 10-6 M was obtained; this indicates an outstanding affinity of the biosensing films towards 17ß-estradiol. Subsequently, the developed biosensor was able to accurately and efficiently measure successive concentrations of 17ß-estradiol from 0.2 × 10 to 4 × 10-6 M. The fabricated biosensor showed good selectivity towards 17ß-estradiol compared to the other estrogenic endocrine-disrupting compounds such as estrone (E1), ethnylstradiol (EE2), and estriol (E3). The biosensor was capable of detecting 17ß-estradiol in spiked tap water samples with good recoveries, thus affirming its potential to be applied for real electro-analysis of 17ß-estradiol in treated wastewater.

RESUMEN

Purification and detection of algal toxins is the most effective technique to ensure that people have clean and safe drinking water. To achieve these objectives, various state-of-the-art technologies were designed and fabricated to decontaminate and detect algal toxins in aquatic environments. Amongst these technologies, aptamer-functionalized hybrid nanomaterials conjugates have received significant consideration as a result of their several benefits over other methods, such as good controllable selectivity, low immunogenicity, and biocompatibility. Because of their excellent properties, aptamer-functionalized hybrid nanomaterials conjugates are one of several remarkable agents. Several isolated aptamer sequences for algal toxins are addressed in this review, as well as aptasensor and decontamination aptamer functionalized metal nanoparticle-derived hybrid nanocomposites applications. In addition, we present diverse aptamer-functionalized hybrid nanomaterial conjugates designs and their applications for sensing and decontamination.
