RESUMEN
Los ensayos clínicos son una herramienta fundamental para el avance de la medicina clínica en sus vertientes diagnóstica y terapéutica. Desde la aparición del primer ensayo en 1948, que relacionaba el tabaco con el cáncer de pulmón, se han realizado hasta la fecha más de 150.000 en diversas áreas (pediatría, cardiología, oncología, endocrinología, etc.). Este artículo resalta la importancia para todo facultativo de participar, a lo largo de su trayectoria profesional, en algún ensayo clínico por los beneficios inherentes al paciente, al progreso de la medicina, así como al prestigio curricular. Los autores hacen una síntesis de su experiencia sobre ensayos clínicos en hipertensión, diabetes, dislipidemias y cardiopatía isquémica a lo largo de casi 3 décadas. Asimismo, se hace una breve referencia a las características de una unidad en fase i, así como a algunas investigaciones que actualmente se están realizando
Clinical trials are essential tools for the progress of clinical medicine in its diagnostic and therapeutic aspects. Since the first trial in 1948, which related tobacco use with lung cancer, there have been more than 150,000 clinical trials to date in various areas (paediatrics, cardiology, oncology, endocrinology, etc.). This article highlights the importance for all physicians to participate, over the course of their professional career, in a clinical trial, due to the inherent benefits for patients, the progress of medicine and for curricular prestige. The authors have created a synthesis of their experience with clinical trials on hypertension, diabetes, dyslipidaemia and ischaemic heart disease over the course of almost 3 decades. Furthermore, a brief reference has been made to the characteristics of a phase I unit, as well as to a number of research studies currently underway

Since the first trial in 1948, which related tobacco use with lung cancer, there have been more than 150,000 clinical trials to date in various areas (paediatrics, cardiology, oncology, endocrinology, etc.). This article highlights the importance for all physicians to participate, over the course of their professional career, in a clinical trial, due to the inherent benefits for patients, the progress of medicine and for curricular prestige. Las úlceras por presión (UPPs) suponen un problema sanitario de gran importancia en nuestra sociedad, cada vez más envejecida. Los registros de cuidados tanto preventivos como de tratamiento y su posterior análisis de resultados son un reto para la práctica enfermera; por ello se inició la creación de un documento sencillo, fácil de manejar y cumplimentar: la hoja «Registro de evolución, cuidado y tratamiento de úlceras por presión». Los cuidados se registran mediante códigos numéricos asignados previamente a las actividades realizadas, para su posterior informatización, haciendo posible su análisis. Los resultados obtenidos nos permiten analizar cargas de trabajo, calidad asistencial, eficacia de procedimientos y productos, así como elaborar un perfil del anciano pluripatológico, diana para estas lesiones, y establecer el proceso asistencial de enfermería especialmente sensible en la prevención
Bedsores, or decubitus ulcers, are a very serious health problem in our society which has more elderly people all the time. Clinical files, whether they record preventive care or actual treatment and follow-up analysis of results, are a challenge for nursing practice. Therefore, the authors developed a simple, easy to use and fill out document: a «File to record the evolution, care and treatment of bedsores». Treatment methods are recorded by means of previously designated numerical codes corresponding to the treatment methods carried out which enables their subsequent computerization and makes it possible to analyze them. The results obtained permit nursing professionals to analyze work tasks assigned, treatment quality, and the efficiency of procedures and products used: furthermore, this file enables nurses to elaborate a description of an elderly patient having multiple pathologies, a target for these lesions, and to establish a nursing treatment procedure especially adapted to the required treatment
