RESUMEN

Introduction: Weizmannia coagulans has emerged as a promising candidate for the management of gastrointestinal ailments. The novel strain of Weizmannia coagulans, Weizmannia coagulans BC99 (BC99), displays robust pathogen-inhibiting capabilities, susceptibility to various antibiotics, and a high level of biosafety. Nevertheless, additional research is necessary to fully understand its effectiveness in managing chronic constipation. Methods: This study investigates the role of BC99 in alleviating chronic constipation in a double-blind, placebo-controlled, randomized trial, and participants were divided into BC99 (2 billion CFU/d) or placebo (maltodextrin) groups for a 4-week period. Results and discussion: Results showed that significant improvements were noted in the BC99 group, with an increase in complete spontaneous bowel movements (CSBM) after 4-week treatment compared to the placebo (p = 0.002). The BC99 group also showed significantly lower Quality of Life (PAC-QOL) scores and reduced Constipation Symptoms (PAC-SYM) scores after 4 weeks of treatment (p < 0.001), indicating symptomatic relief. Notably, BC99 effectively modulated key gut microbiota such as Bifidobacterium and Ruminococcus, linked to crucial metabolic pathways like glutathione metabolism. In all, BC99 is confirmed to be an effective and safe therapeutic option for the relief of adult chronic constipation, enhancing gut microbiota balance and influencing critical metabolic pathways. Clinical trial registration: ChiCTR2200065493.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: Evaluation of the accuracy of the wrist-type fully automatic blood pressure (BP) monitor: DBP-2242 in adolescent and adult populations according to ISO 81060-2 : 2018+Amd.1 : 2020. METHODS: BP measurements were taken from the subjects using the same-arm sequential method, and BP data measured by a mercury sphygmomanometer was used as the standard. RESULTS: This study analyzed 262 sets of data from 89 subjects. According to criterion 1, the mean difference between the SBP of the test and reference devices was -0.57 ±â€…7.31 mmHg, and the DBP was -2.27 ±â€…7.17 mmHg, which is in accordance with the requirements. According to criterion 2, the average difference between the SBP was -0.57 ±â€…6.25 mmHg and the DBP was -2.27 ±â€…5.99 mmHg, which is in accordance with the requirements. CONCLUSION: Wrist-type fully automatic BP monitor: DBP-2242 complies with ISO 81060-2 : 2018+Amd.1 : 2020 and can be used for BP measurement in adolescent and adult populations.

RESUMEN

Background: The prognostic significance of Lauren's classification in elderly early gastric cancer (EGC) patients remains largely unknown. We aim to investigate the characteristics and clinical implications of Lauren's classification in elderly EGC patients. Methods: Patients were collected from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Univariate and multivariate Cox regression, propensity score matching, inverse-probability-weighted analysis, and propensity-score adjustment were utilized to evaluate the association between Lauren's classification and cancer-specific survival (CSS) in elderly EGC patients. Stratification and interaction analyses were used to reveal the effects of confounding factors on the association between Lauren's classification and CSS. Results: The diffuse type (median, 41.0 months) showed a similar survival (37.0 months), and was mainly distributed in female group (62.5% vs. 42.2%) with poorly differentiated or undifferentiated components (89.1% vs. 27.0%) compared with intestinal type in elderly EGC patients. Analyses of univariate and multivariate Cox regression, propensity score matching, inverse-probability-weighted analysis, and propensity-score adjustment showed that Lauren's classification was not significantly CSS in elderly EGC patients (P>0.05). Subgroup and interaction analyses confirmed the stability of the results. Conclusions: Diffuse type was mainly distributed in female patients with more poorly differentiated/undifferentiated components and similar prognosis compared with intestinal type in age 75 and older EGC patients. No significant association was observed between diffuse type and CSS of the elderly EGC patients.

RESUMEN

A 61-year-old male was hospitalized in our department due to Intermittent melena for 4 days. Laboratory tests showed a reduced hemoglobin level (10.7 g/L). Abdominal computed tomography (CT) showed gastric wall thickening in the gastric body.

RESUMEN

In the title compound, C(17)H(21)N, the dihedral angle between the benzene ring and the imine group (-N=) is 5.1 (4)°. In the adamantane group, the C-C-C bond angles range from 107.88 (19) to 111.33 (17)°. Only weak van der Waals inter-actions contribute to the contribute to the packing of the molecules in the crystal..

RESUMEN

A novel Schiff base compound, C(20)H(27)NO(2), was obtained by a condensation of rimantadine and 2-hy-droxy-4-meth-oxy-benzaldehyde. An intra-molecular O-H⋯N hydrogen bond supports the phenol-imine tautomeric form. The adamantane and imino-methyl-4-meth-oxy-phenol units are arranged in a folded conformation [C-N-C-C torsion angle = 110.9 (3)°]. In the crystal, highly hydro-phobic adamantane moieties are inserted between the imino-methyl-4-meth-oxy-phenol units in a sandwich-like arrangement along the c axis.
