RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: In this study, we aimed to investigate the role of bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (BMSC) on the molecular mechanisms involved in the removal of endometrial adhesions and the implantation process in the experimentally-created Asherman syndrome model in rats. MATERIALS AND METHODS: An experimental model chemical agent was used. Culture medium (CM), only BMSC, 48-hour culture medium (Niche), and BMSC+ niche were used as therapy. Each group was divided into two subgroups, and changes in the endometrial tissue were investigated by histochemical and immunohistochemical staining. RESULTS: The results of the study show that BMSCs exhibit therapeutic properties in endometrial damage, increase endometrial thickness and vascularization, and contribute to the implantation of embryos by reducing fibrous areas. These results are promising for the prevention of Asherman-induced infertility. CONCLUSIONS: It has been shown that BMSC and Niche applications can be helpful in preventing adhesion molecules in the mechanisms that cause infertility.

RESUMEN

AIM: In this study, the authors aimed to determine the serum levels of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), angiopoietin-l (ang-1) and angiopoietin-2 (ang-2) factors as indicators of placental angiogenesis and vasculogenesis in abortion cases. Materials and Meth- ods: This study was conducted in 40 women who were pregnant for 7-20 weeks and diagnosed with an incipient abortion and 40 pregnant healthy women with similar ages, gestational weeks, and body mass index (BMI) values. Serum VEGF, ang-1, and ang-2 levels were measured with ELISA methods. RESULTS: The authors found that the serum VEGF levels were higher and ang-1 levels were significantly lower in pregnant women whose pregnancies failed with abortion, compared to control group. There was no significani difference in terms of ang-2 levels between groups. CONCLUSION: A strong relationship was found between VEGF and ang-I early pregnancy loss, and significant changes of these factors may also be associated with the physiopathology of abortion incipience. Evaluating these factors may be benefical for prediction and designing of treatment modalities on spontaneous abortion.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: The impact of being an adolescent and socio-demographic parameters on depression development during pregnancy were evaluated in this study. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Between September 2010 and September 2011, 105 consecutive adolescent women ≤ 17 years of age were defined as the study group and 105 consecutive pregnant women over 18 years of age and matched for gestational age, were defined as the control group. Groups were compared according to depression development. The predictors of depression were analyzed by regression analysis. RESULTS: Median Beck Depression Inventory-II (BDI-II) scores in adolescent and control groups were 16 and 6, respectively. The difference was statistically significant. In the adolescent group, 39.0% of patients had mild depression, 37.1% moderate, and 10.5% had severe depression. Only 4.8% of patients in the control group had mild depression while none of the control cases had moderate or severe depression. Multivariate analysis showed that most important factor that was associated with depression development during pregnancy was being an adolescent. CONCLUSION: Depression risk was increased 18.2-fold in adolescent patients with pregnancy. Therefore psychiatric evaluation should be considered for these patients.

RESUMEN

Data consistently show that in experienced trained hands, laparoscopic tubal sterilization is safe and highly effective regardless of the approach or occlusive method. The known mortality rate is between four and eight deaths per 100,000 cases and the rate of intraoperative and postoperative major complications is less than 1%. The anesthetic complication rate for laparoscopy is between 0.016% and 0.75%. Carbon dioxide (CO2) pneumoperitoneum effects are still controversial. Here the authors present a case report of patient who suffered from intraoperative cardiac arrest during laparoscopic tubal ligation under general anesthesia. No definite cause has been identified. The authors outline several possible mechanisms that could have been involved and attempt to discuss these events in the face of published reports describing similar complications.

RESUMEN

The aim of this study was to examine the external genital features in Turkish women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). Thirty-two newly diagnosed PCOS cases and 35 healthy women were included the study. All women underwent a thorough gynaecological examination. Clitoral length, and labia minora length and width were recorded. The groups were compared for features of external genital structures. Clitoral and labial lengths were significantly higher in PCOS group. There was a strong correlation between clitoral length and modified Ferriman-Gallwey score. The most effective predictor of PCOS was found to be clitoral length. Clitoral length alone predicted 99.9% of PCOS patients. There were some subclinical genital changes in women with PCOS. These changes in PCOS patients may be a sign of hyperandrogenism and might have diagnostic value in indistinct cases.

RESUMEN

The aim of this study was to use a questionnaire to evaluate any changes in sexual satisfaction of women who underwent a transobturator tape (TOT) procedure for stress urinary incontinence. A total of 30 women agreed to participate in the study and were invited to fill out the Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI) questionnaire prior to surgery and 3 months after surgery. As a result, after the TOT operation, there was a statistically significant improvement in libido (desire), arousal, lubrication, orgasm and satisfaction. The TOT procedure seems to have a positive effect on female sexual function by reducing the urinary leakage during sexual activity and by decreasing the pain during or after sexual activity.
