RESUMEN
The application of reversed A2/O process in practice in China is mainly discussed in this paper. As a new process on nitrogen and phosphorus removal, principle and technical features of reversed A2/O process are also summarized. The application in rebuilt wastewater treatment plant shows that reversed A2/O process not only has merits on high nitrogen and phosphorus removal efficiency, but also has merits on energy saving. The application in newly-build wastewater treatment plant shows that infrastructure and equipment investment of reversed A2/O process economized 15% and 10% respectively, compared to conventional A2/O process. The practical application shows that reversed A2/O process is a new nitrogen and phosphorus removal process, which is suitable for China's national conditions.

Magnetic resonance susceptibility-weighted imaging (SWI) is a new, highly-sensitive technique used to detect haemorrhage. This study evaluated the ability of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to detect haemorrhage in 45 lung cancer patients with brain metastases and compared the results with T2*weighted imaging (T2*WI) and contrast-enhanced T1-weighted imaging (CE-T1WI). Eighty-nine haemorrhagic brain metastases were identified in 31 patients using SWI, 68 were identified in 23 patients using T2*WI and 46 were identified in 14 patients using CE-T1WI. Most micro-bleeds could only be identified by SWI. It was concluded that haemorrhage is a frequent occurrence in brain metastases originating from lung cancer and that haemorrhage can be detected using SWI in a majority of brain metastases patients.

By a reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction assay, we studied the risk of hepatitis G virus vertical infection in seven infants born to women positive for hepatitis G virus ribonucleic acid and hepatitis C virus antibody. Of these, three (42.9%) tested positive for hepatitis G virus ribonucleic acid and two (28.6%) had a carrier state. Intrauterine or birth canal infection seemed much more significant than the infection by breast-feeding.

Using alpha-32P-dCTP labelled human papillomavirus type 16 DNA genome probe (cHPV 16 DNA, cloned and identified from a Chinese cervical invasive carcinoma), 3 HPV 16 genomic relative sequences were detected in 6 biopsies of laryngeal carcinoma. The results showed serious HPV infection in laryngeal carcinoma. This indicates that HPV infection may play an important pathogenetic role in cancer development.
