RESUMEN

Endoscopic submucosal dissection can remove large superficial gastrointestinal lesions in en bloc. A detailed pathological evaluation of the resected specimen is required to assess the risk of recurrence after treatment. However, the current method of sectioning specimens to a thickness of a few millimeters does not provide information between the sections that are lost during the preparation. In this study, we have produced three-dimensional images of the entire dissected lesion for nine samples by using micro-CT imaging system. Although it was difficult to diagnose histological type on micro-CT images, it successfully evaluates the extent of the lesion and its surgical margins. Micro-CT images can depict sites that cannot be observed by the conventional pathological diagnostic process, suggesting that it may be useful to use in a complementary manner.

Introduction: Fractional carbon dioxide laser resurfacing is the gold standard treatment for atrophic acne scars but when combined with subcision to the depressed scars it provides rapid improvement. Carboxytherapy is considered a tool for subcision via injecting the gas under pressure plus its well-known effect in rejuvenating scars.Aim: Main objective of the work is to evaluate the effectiveness of combined subcision using carboxytherapy plus fractional carbon dioxide laser resurfacing in the treatment of atrophic acne scars.Patients and method: Twenty patients with atrophic acne scars undergone three sessions of fractional carbon dioxide laser resurfacing for both sides of the face and subcision by CO2 gas for the right side scars only. Standardized photographs were taken before and three months after the last session and evaluated by two independent blinded dermatologists for the degree of improvement.Result: The right side of the face improved better than the left side and showed excellent improvement in 10% of cases that was statistically significant (p value=.003).Conclusion: Subcision via carboxytherapy accelerate the improvement of atrophic acne scars when combined with fractional carbon dioxide laser resurfacing.

Warts are common viral infection of the skin, usually treated with destructive methods like electrocautery, cryotherapy or laser ablation. Topical vitamin D has been used to treat warts with variable success is to evaluate the efficacy of intralesional vitamin D3 injection in the treatment of common warts. Fifty patients were divided into two groups: 30 patients as cases group who received intralesional injection of 0.2 mL of vitamin D3 (300,000 IU) into the base of mother wart for two sessions and another 20 patients as a control group who were injected with normal saline solution. Standardized photographs were taken before the procedure, and 1 month and 3 months after the procedure. The degree of the response was classified into complete, partial, and no response. Complete clearance of the target injected warts occurred in 40% of patients in cases group while it occurred only in 5% of patients in control group (p ≤ .001) that was statistically significant. Intralesional injection of vitamin D3 may be considered a good and safe modality for the treatment of common warts.

INTRODUCTION: Palmar hyperhidrosis is of great concern to patients because of its physical, occupational, and psychological impact on quality of life. Topical clove oil has been used in many conditions due to its major component Eugenol that exerts blocking effect on nerve transmission. AIM OF THE WORK: To assess the efficacy of topical liposome incorporated clove oil in decreasing the rate of sweating among patients with idiopathic palmar hyperhidrosis. PATIENTS AND METHOD: Forty patients with palmar hyperhidrosis were treated with clove oil 45% in liposome and another twenty patients were treated as a control group with 0.9% saline solution and evaluation was carried out before and after treatment through gravimetry testing and hyperhidrosis disease severity scale (HDSS). RESULT: The gravimetry testing among clove oil-treated group showed that the mean sweating rate before treatment was 80.5 ± 41.85 (SD) mg/min which decreased significantly after treatment to 52.98 ± 37.94(SD) mg/min (P value < .001). On the other hand, the placebo-treated group,(control) the mean sweating rate before treatment was 77.40 ± 29.29(SD) which did not show significant improvement after placebo application 77.35 ± 28.29(SD; P value = .957). CONCLUSION: The topical application of 45% clove oil in liposome twice daily for 2 weeks showing promising result evidenced by declining in the rate of palmar sweating among patients with idiopathic palmar hyperhidrosis.

INTRODUCTION: Acne scar is a common distressing complication of acne vulgaris. CO2 laser resurfacing proved effective for the treatment of this problem, but the associated complications may limit its use. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) may increase the chance of favorable outcome. AIM OF THE WORK: To evaluate the synergistic effects of autologous PRP with fractional CO2 laser resurfacing in the treatment of acne scars among Egyptian patients. PATIENTS AND METHOD: This study included 30 patients suffering from post-acne scars. CO2 laser treatment was applied to both sides of the face followed by PRP injection for the right side. Evaluation was carried out through operating physicians, two blinded physicians as well as through patient's satisfaction. RESULT: The right side of the face (PRP-treated side) achieved excellent improvement in 13.3% of the patients, while there was no excellent improvement on the left side. CONCLUSION: Combination of fractional CO2 laser resurfacing and intradermal PRP was superior to CO2 laser alone for acne scar treatment.
