RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Individuals with borderline personality traits are known to have disturbed representations of self and others. Specifically, an unstable self-identity and difficulties distinguishing between self and others can impair their mentalizing abilities in interpersonal situations. However, it is unclear whether these traits are linked to differences in neural representation of self and others. METHODS: In this study involving 156 young adults, changes in neural function during self-other processing were measured using a Functional Near-Infrared Spectroscopy (fNIRS) task and a self-report survey. During the fNIRS task, participants were asked about their own traits, others' traits, how they believed others perceived them, and the basic meaning of words. The study aimed to determine whether the degree of neural differentiation between the task conditions was related to borderline personality traits. RESULT: The study found that traits indicative of identity instability could be predicted by similarities in task-dependent connectivity. Specifically, the neural patterns when individuals estimated how others perceived them were more similar to the patterns when they judged their own traits. CONCLUSIONS: These findings suggest that borderline personality traits related to identity issues may reflect difficulties in distinguishing between neural patterns when processing self and other information.

RESUMEN

Purpose: Patients admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) after cardiac surgery are at high risk of delirium due to a variety of factors. This study aimed to identify the incidence of postoperative delirium in adult patients with cardiac surgery and its risk factors, such as characteristics of subjects, disease and treatment-related, as well as nursing-related characteristics. Methods: The study was performed on adult patients who underwent cardiac surgery at Y University Hospital in D city; a total of 195 patients met the inclusion criteria. Results: The results of this study determined that 67 of 195 adult cardiac surgery patients had postoperative delirium, 53.7% of which occurred in the ICU and 46.3% in the general ward. Risk factors of postoperative delirium were postoperative symptoms of inflammation (odds ratio [OR] = 10.18, p = 0.002), continuous renal replacement therapy application after surgery (OR = 9.05, p = 0.006), postoperative sleep disorder (OR = 8.98, p < 0.001), age (OR = 6.23, p = 0.006), length of stay in the ICU (OR = 3.83, p = 0.031), history of stroke (OR = 3.71, p = 0.033), the number of postoperative catheter retention (OR = 1.53, p = 0.065), Acute Physiology and Chronic Health Evaluation Ⅱ score (OR = 1.12, p = 0.006), and time of operation (OR = 1.01, p = 0.042). Conclusion: This study confirmed that after cardiac surgery, postoperative delirium occurred in patients during their ICU stay and after their transfer to a general ward. Considering that after cardiac surgery ICU-related factors affect the incidence of delirium in the general ward, there is a need for continuous monitoring of ICU-related factors after the patient gets transferred to a general ward.

RESUMEN

Background: Stroke, a leading cause of death and disability, lacks effective treatments. Post-stroke secondary damage worsens the brain microenvironment, further exacerbating brain injury. Microglia's role in responding to stroke-induced damage in peri-infarct regions is crucial. In this study, we explored Weisheng-tang's potential to enhance ischemic outcomes by targeting microglia. Methods: We induced middle cerebral artery occlusion and reperfusion in mice, followed by behavioral assessments and infarct volume analyses after 48 h, and examined the changes in microglial morphology through skeleton analysis. Results: Weisheng-tang (300 mg/kg) significantly reduced infarction volume and alleviated neurological and motor deficits. The number of activated microglia was markedly increased within the peri-infarct territory, which was significantly reversed by Weisheng-tang. Microglial morphology analysis revealed that microglial processes were retracted owing to ischemic damage but were restored in Weisheng-tang-treated mice. This restoration was accompanied by the expression of the purinergic P2Y12 receptor (P2Y12R), a key regulator of microglial process extension. Weisheng-tang increased neuronal Kv2.1 clusters while suppressing juxtaneuronal microglial activation. The P2Y12R inhibitor-ticagrelor-eliminated the tissue and functional recovery that had been observed with Weisheng-tang after ischemic damage. Discussion: Weisheng-tang improved experimental stroke outcomes by modulating microglial morphology through P2Y12R, shedding light on its neuroprotective potential in ischemic stroke.

RESUMEN

Hypothalamic innate immune responses to dietary fats underpin the pathogenesis of obesity, in which microglia play a critical role. Progranulin (PGRN) is an evolutionarily -conserved secretory protein containing seven-and-a-half granulin (GRN) motifs. It is cleaved into GRNs by multiple proteases. In the central nervous system, PGRN is highly expressed in microglia. To investigate the role of microglia-derived PGRN in metabolism regulation, we established a mouse model with a microglia-specific deletion of the Grn gene, that encodes PGRN. Mice with microglia-specific Grn gene depletion displayed dietdependent metabolic phenotypes. Under normal diet-fed conditions, microglial Grn gene depletion produced adverse outcomes like fasting hyperglycemia and aberrant activation of hypothalamic microglia. However, when fed a high fat diet (HFD), these mice exhibited beneficial effects, including less obesity, glucose dysregulation, and hypothalamic inflammation. These differing phenotypes appear linked to increased extracellular cleavage of anti-inflammatory PGRN into proinflammatory GRNs in the hypothalamus during overnutrition. In support of this, inhibiting PGRN cleavage attenuated HFD-induced hypothalamic inflammation and obesity progression. Our results suggest that the extracellular cleavage of microglia-derived PGRN plays a significant role in promoting hypothalamic inflammation and obesity during periods of overnutrition. Therefore, therapies that inhibit PGRN cleavage may be beneficial for combating dietinduced obesity.

RESUMEN

Approximately 30 % of global agricultural land is used to produce food that is ultimately lost or wasted, making it imperative to explore strategies for mitigating this waste. This study explored the potential of chitosan (CS) derivatives as edible coatings to extend food shelf life. Although soluble CS derivatives such as glycol CS are suitable coatings, their antimicrobial properties often diminish with increased solubility. To address this issue, gallic acid (GA), a polyphenol, was conjugated with CS using 1-ethyl-3-(3-dimethylaminopropyl)carbodiimide/N-hydroxysuccinimide (EDC/NHS) chemistry to create edible coating solutions. The resulting CS-GA films exhibited remarkable solubility, mechanical strength, UV-blocking properties, and superior antioxidant and antimicrobial properties. Furthermore, these films exhibited a high affinity for hydrophobic fruit surfaces while also facilitating easy washing, making them an alternative for consumers who are averse to film-coated products. The CS-GA-coated fruits exhibited minimal surface spoilage, decreased mass loss, and increased firmness. Therefore, these CS-GA conjugate coatings hold significant potential as eco-friendly, edible, and washable food packaging coatings.

RESUMEN

Pulmonary arteriovenous malformations create continuous shunting of unoxygenated blood through the lungs into the systemic circulation. These malformations are asymptomatic if small, but cause serious symptoms as they grow in size. Treatment primarily consists of endovascular embolization; lobectomy is preserved for recurring or endovascularly untreatable cases. We describe a case of a 24-year-old man who was first treated with coil embolization 10 years previously, with complete symptom resolution. However, more recently he noted recurrent exercise intolerance, with shortness of breath and hypoxemia. After repeat re-embolization, a computed tomography scan noted some persistent flow. Given the patient's young age, we considered resection as a definite therapy. The patient underwent an uncomplicated robot-assisted right lower lobectomy. Afterward, his symptoms resolved completely. In selected cases, robotic lobectomy for pulmonary arteriovenous malformation is feasible and safe.

RESUMEN

INTRODUCTION: Among many antiretroviral drugs, tenofovir alafenamide is used extensively in combination regimens of tenofovir/emtricitabine or tenofovir/emtricitabine/bictegravir. However, concerns have arisen about the potential of tenofovir alafenamide to exacerbate hyperlipidaemia. This meta-analysis evaluates the relationship between tenofovir alafenamide use and lipid-profile alterations in people living with HIV. METHODS: We searched PubMed, Ovid MEDLINE, EMBASE and the Cochrane Library to identify studies on changes in cholesterol levels (e.g. total cholesterol, low-density and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, and triglycerides) in people living with HIV who received treatment with a regimen containing tenofovir alafenamide (data collected 31 March 2023, review completed 30 July 2023). Potential risk factors for worsening lipid profile during treatment with tenofovir alafenamide were also evaluated. RESULTS: Sixty-five studies involving 39,713 people living with HIV were selected. Significant increases in total cholesterol, low-density and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, and triglycerides were observed after treatment with tenofovir alafenamide. Specifically, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (+12.31 mg/dl) and total cholesterol (+18.86 mg/dl) increased markedly from the third month of tenofovir alafenamide use, with significant elevations observed across all time points up to 36 months. Comparatively, tenofovir alafenamide regimens resulted in higher lipid levels than tenofovir disoproxil fumarate regimens at 12 months of use. Notably, discontinuation of the tenofovir alafenamide regimen led to significant decreases in low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (-9.31 mg/dl) and total cholesterol (-8.91 mg/dl). Additionally, tenofovir alafenamide use was associated with increased bodyweight (+1.38 kg; 95% confidence interval: 0.92-1.84), which became more pronounced over time. Meta-regression analysis identified young age, male sex and low body mass index as risk factors for worsening cholesterol levels in individuals treated with tenofovir alafenamide. CONCLUSIONS: Tenofovir alafenamide use in people living with HIV is associated with significant alterations in lipid profile.

RESUMEN

Pediatric obesity is a progressive, chronic disease that can lead to serious cardiometabolic complications. Here we investigated the peripheral lipidome in 958 children and adolescents with overweight or obesity and 373 with normal weight, in a cross-sectional study. We also implemented a family-based, personalized program to assess the effects of obesity management on 186 children and adolescents in a clinical setting. Using mass spectrometry-based lipidomics, we report an increase in ceramides, alongside a decrease in lysophospholipids and omega-3 fatty acids with obesity metabolism. Ceramides, phosphatidylethanolamines and phosphatidylinositols were associated with insulin resistance and cardiometabolic risk, whereas sphingomyelins showed inverse associations. Additionally, a panel of three lipids predicted hepatic steatosis as effectively as liver enzymes. Lipids partially mediated the association between obesity and cardiometabolic traits. The nonpharmacological management reduced levels of ceramides, phospholipids and triglycerides, indicating that lowering the degree of obesity could partially restore a healthy lipid profile in children and adolescents.

RESUMEN

Background: Severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome (SFTS) is an emerging tick-borne disease caused by Bandavirus dabieense (SFTS virus [SFTSV]). Recently, at least 6 different genotypes of SFTSV have been identified, with genotypes A, D, and F dominant in China and B dominant in Japan and Korea. This study investigated the effect of SFTSV genotypes circulating in South Korea on disease severity, viral load, and cytokine profile. Methods: We prospectively enrolled 70 patients with SFTS from July 2015 to June 2022. Serial plasma samples were obtained during hospitalization and analyzed. Viral load was measured by real-time reverse-transcription polymerase chain reaction. Partial sequences of the viral genome were analyzed for genotyping. Plasma concentrations of 17 cytokines were measured by multiplex-bead immunoassay. Results: Of 70 samples, 51 could be genotyped. Genotype B was predominant (80.4%) and other genotypes were uncommon. Intensive care unit admission rates (51.2% vs 50.0%) and mortality rates (26.8% vs 40.0%) did not show any significant differences between genotype B and non-B genotypes. The initial viral load did not show any significant differences (3.59 vs 3.64 log copies/µL), whereas viral load measured at hospital day 3-4 tended to be higher in genotype B than non-B genotypes (3.83 vs 1.83 log copies/µL, P = .07). Additionally, the plasma concentrations of interferon-α, interleukin 10, and interferon-γ-induced protein 10, which are closely related to mortality in cases of SFTS, did not show any significant differences. Conclusions: SFTSV genotype B was the prevalent genotype in South Korea, with no genotype-specific difference in clinical outcomes, initial viral load, or cytokine profiles.

RESUMEN

Objective: We explored the oncological impact of tumor deposits (TDs) on colon cancer and proposed optimal modifications to the current staging system. Background: In the existing American Joint Committee on Cancer colon cancer staging system, TDs are incorporated into the N category as N1c. When lymph node metastases (LNMs) are present, their number is considered to determine nodal stages, such as N1a/b or N2a/b, regardless of TDs. Methods: 4212 patients with primary colon cancer who underwent surgical resection in the Seoul Colorectal Group (2010-2020) and 93,057 patients from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results*Stat database (2000-2017) were included in this study. Patients were classified according to the number of metastatic lymph nodes (LNs) (0/1-3/≥4) and the presence of TDs. Results: TDs were significantly associated with left colon cancer, a higher T category, and vascular/perineural invasion. Patients with TDs had higher recurrence rates (23.1 vs 7.5%, P < 0.001). The TD-positive patients had notably worse overall survival (OS) and recurrence-free survival rates. The survival outcomes of TD-positive patients without LNM were inferior to those of TD-negative patients with LN1-3 (5-year OS: 78.9 vs 87.8%, P = 0.04). The survival outcomes of TD-positive patients with LN1-3 were similar to those of TD-negative patients with LN ≥4 (5-year OS: 87.0 vs 77.1%, P = 0.11). Survival outcomes obtained using the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results *Stat database yielded consistent results. Conclusions: TDs were associated with poor prognostic factors and had a significant impact on survival outcomes. The incorporation of tumor deposits into nodal classifications beyond the current N1c criteria may improve the staging system and more accurately reflect the recurrence and survival rates among patients with colon cancer. TD-positive in N1a or N1b could be categorized as N2.

RESUMEN

Ru-based electrocatalysts hold great promise for developing affordable proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolyzers. However, the harsh acidic oxidative environment of the acidic oxygen evolution reaction (OER) often causes undesirable overoxidation of Ru active sites and subsequent serious activity loss. Here, we present an ultrathin and conformal depletion layer attached to the Schottky heterojunction of core/shell RuCo/RuCoOx that not only maximizes the availability of active sites but also improves its durability and intrinsic activity for acidic OER. Operando synchrotron characterizations combined with theoretical calculations elucidate that the lattice strain and charge transfer induced by Schottky heterojunction substantially regulate the electronic structures of active sites, which modulates the OER pathway and suppresses the overoxidation of Ru species. Significantly, the closed core/shell architecture of the RuCo/RuCoOx ensures the structure integrity of the Schottky heterojunction under acidic OER conditions. As a result, the core/shell RuCo/RuCoOx Schottky heterojunction exhibits an unprecedented durability up to 250 0 h at 10 mA cm-2 with an ultralow overpotential of ∼170 mV at 10 mA cm-2 in 0.5 M H2SO4. The RuCo/RuCoOx catalyst also demonstrates superior durability in a proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolyzer, showcasing the potential for practical applications.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: The global use of pesticides steadily increased until the early 2010s. Pesticides play a significant role in agriculture in Korea. Metabolic syndrome is more prevalent in rural areas than in urban areas. This study explored the potential association between organophosphate and pyrethroid pesticide exposure and metabolic syndrome. METHODS: This study enrolled 1,317 individuals who participated in the Pesticide Exposure and Intoxication Study conducted by the Dankook University Hospital Center for Farmers' Safety and Health from 2014 to 2019. Urinary levels of dimethylphosphate, dimethylthiophosphat, diethylphosphate, and diethylthiophosphate were measured to assess organophosphate pesticide exposure and urinary levels cis-3-(2,2-dichlorovinyl)-2,2-dimethylcyclopropane carboxylic acid, trans-3-(2,2-dichlorovinyl)-2,2-dimethylcyclopropane carboxylic acid, cis-3-(2,2-dibromovinyl)-2,2-dimethylcyclopropane carboxylic acid, and 3-phenoxybenzoic acid were measured to assess pyrethroid pesticide exposure. RESULTS: The odds ratio for the 4th quartile group of organophosphate metabolites concentration was 1.48 (95% confidence interval: 1.06-2.09) compared to the 1st quartile group after adjustment for general factors. In addition, a positive trend was observed across the quartile groups of organophosphate metabolites concentration. A positive trend was noted across the quartile groups of organophosphate metabolites in males, while no significant association was observed in females. Furthermore, no significant associations were observed between metabolic syndrome and pyrethroid metabolites concentration. CONCLUSIONS: A positive correlation was observed between the prevalence of metabolic syndrome and the concentrations of urinary organophosphate metabolites, consistent with previous research finding. This association may be attributed to the action of organophosphates as acetylcholinesterase inhibitors, stimulating beta cells in the islets of Langerhans. This can lead to alterations in lipid metabolism and insulin resistance, ultimately leading to metabolic syndrome development. Metabolic syndrome is a major contributor to cardiovascular disease; therefore, it is necessary to identify the risk factors unique to rural areas, such as pesticide exposure.

RESUMEN

Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) are used as salvage treatments for advanced gastric cancer (AGC) regardless of HER2 status. This study assessed the efficacy of ICIs based on HER2 expression in AGC patients who received pembrolizumab as salvage monotherapy at Samsung Medical Center from November 2017 to March 2023. HER2 status was determined via immunohistochemistry, and tumor response and survival outcomes were compared accordingly. Among the 113 patients analyzed, with a median age of 61 years and 64.6% being male, 12 patients (10.6%) were HER2-positive, and 101 patients (89.4%) were HER2-negative. Of 92 evaluable patients, none had a complete response. However, 50% of HER2-positive patients had a partial response, compared to 4.9% of HER2-negative patients (p < 0.001). The disease control rate was 70% in HER2-positive and 37.8% in HER2-negative patients (p = 0.086). Median progression-free survival was 5.53 months for HER2-positive patients versus 1.81 months for HER2-negative patients (p = 0.037). Pembrolizumab as a salvage chemotherapy for the treatment of AGC demonstrated superior effectiveness in HER2-positive patients compared with HER2-negative patients.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: The vegetative state (VS) after severe acute brain injury (SABI) is associated with significant prognostic uncertainty and poor long-term functional outcomes. However, it is generally distinguished from imminent death and is exempt from the Life-Sustaining Treatment (LST) Decisions Act in Korea. Here, we aimed to examine the perspectives of the general population (GP) and clinicians regarding decisions on mechanical ventilator withdrawal in patients in a VS after SABI. METHODS: A cross-sectional survey was undertaken, utilizing a self-reported online questionnaire based on a case vignette. Nationally selected by quota sampling, the GP comprised 500 individuals aged 20 to 69 years. There were 200 doctors from a tertiary university hospital in the clinician sample. Participants were asked what they thought about mechanical ventilator withdrawal in patients in VS 2 months and 3 years after SABI. RESULTS: Two months after SABI in the case, 79% of the GP and 83.5% of clinicians had positive attitudes toward mechanical ventilator withdrawal. In the GP, attitudes were associated with spirituality, household income, religion, the number of household members. On the other hand, clinicians' attitudes were related to their experience of completing advance directives (AD) and making decisions about LST. In this case, 3 years after SABI, 92% of the GP and 94% of clinicians were more accepting of ventilator withdrawal compared to previous responses, based on the assumption that the patient had written AD. However, it appeared that the proportion of positive responses to ventilator withdrawal decreased when the patients had only verbal expressions (82% of the GP; 75.5% of clinicians) or had not previously expressed an opinion regarding LST (58% of the GP; 39.5% of clinicians). CONCLUSION: More than three quarters of both the GP and clinicians had positive opinions regarding ventilator withdrawal in patients in a VS after SABI, which was reinforced with time and the presence of AD. Legislative adjustments are needed to ensure that previous wishes for those patients are more respected and reflected in treatment decisions.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: The pathophysiological mechanisms underlying the post-acute sequelae of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 infection (PASC) are not well understood. Our study aimed to investigate various aspects of theses mechanisms, including viral persistence, immunological responses, and laboratory parameters in patients with and without PASC. METHODS: We prospectively enrolled adults aged ≥ 18 years diagnosed with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) between August 2022 and July 2023. Blood samples were collected at three time-points: within one month of diagnosis (acute phase) and at 1 month, and 3 months post-diagnosis. Following a recent well-designed definition of PASC, PASC patients were defined as those with a questionnaire-based PASC score ≥ 12 persisting for at least 4 weeks after the initial COVID-19 diagnosis. RESULTS: Of 57 eligible COVID-19 patients, 29 (51%) had PASC, and 28 (49%) did not. The PASC group had significantly higher nucleocapsid protein (NP) antigenemia 3 months after COVID-19 diagnosis (P = 0.022). Furthermore, several cytokines, including IL-2, IL-17A, VEGF, RANTES, sCD40L, IP-10, I-TAC, and granzyme A, were markedly elevated in the PASC group 1 and/or 3 month(s) after COVID-19 diagnosis. In contrast, the median values of several serological markers, including thyroid markers, autoimmune indicators, and stress-related hormones, were within the normal range. CONCLUSION: Levels of NP antigen and of various cytokines involved in immune responses become significantly elevated over time after COVID-19 diagnosis in PASC patients compared to non-PASC patients. This suggests that PASC is associated with prolonged immune dysregulation resulting from heightened antigenic stimulation.

RESUMEN

Background: Anti-type 2 (T2) biologic therapies (biologics) improve exacerbation rates, lung function, and asthma-related quality of life (QoL) in patients with severe T2 asthma. However, studies comparing different biologics are lacking. We evaluated the QoL in patients with severe asthma comprehensively and compare the efficacy of different T2-directed biologics using QoL questionnaires. Methods: We compared the QoL between severe and mild-to-moderate asthma and between severe asthma with and without biologics treatment. Data of mild-to-moderate were extracted from the Cohort for Reality and Evolution of Adult Asthma in Korea, and data of severe asthma were collected from the Precision Medicine Intervention in Severe Asthma. We included 183 patients with severe asthma treated with T2 biologics or conventional therapy between April 2020 and May 2021 and assessed QoL of them using the Questionnaire for Adult Korean Asthmatics (QLQAKA), Severe Asthma Questionnaire (SAQ), and EuroQoL-5Dimensions (EQ-5D) at baseline and 6 months. Results: The EQ-5D index (0.803) of severe asthma was lower than that of other chronic diseases representing a worse QoL. The scores for all questions of QLQAKA, except "cough," were lower (less control) in the severe asthma group than in the mild-to-moderate asthma group at baseline and 6 months (P < 0.05). The total scores and subscores of all domains of the QLQAKA, SAQ, and EQ-5D improved significantly 6 months after biologic therapy but not after conventional therapy. The total QLQAKA, SAQ, and EQ-5D scores improved after 6 months in the anti-IL-5 (P < 0.05) and anti-IL-4/IL-13 (P < 0.05) treatment groups with no significant difference between groups (P > 0.05). Conclusion: QoL was worse in severe asthma than in mild-to-moderate asthma and other chronic diseases. T2 biologics equally improved QoL in patients with severe asthma.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Inoperable malignant bowel obstruction, which results in chronic nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain, often requires nasogastric tube decompression. However, these tubes are often uncomfortable for patients and require hospitalization during the end-of-life care. Cervical esophago-gastric (CEG) decompression tubes are a potential palliative solution. The objective of this study is to present the outcomes of CEG tubes in 11 patients with malignant bowel obstruction. METHODS: We performed a retrospective review of patients requiring nasogastric tube decompression who received CEG decompression tubes for inoperable malignant bowel obstructions between 2016-2022. CEG tube placement was performed percutaneously through the left neck using a guidewire and an endoscopic technique. RESULTS: The average age of patients was 58 years (31-72 years), with metastatic colorectal cancer (36.4%) and ovarian cancer (27.3%) being the most common causes of malignant bowel obstruction. All procedures were completed percutaneously, without requiring conversion to open procedures. The morbidity of the procedure was 27%, which included tube dislodgement, local cellulitis, or bleeding at the insertion site. None of the patients required reoperation, with most of the patients successfully treated conservatively. Most patients were discharged home after the procedure (82%); however, 45% were readmitted (mostly due to abdominal pain). Most patients (73%) were able to continue additional chemotherapy after tube placement. The average survival from cancer diagnosis was approximately six months, whereas the average survival after the procedure was about four months. No mortalities occurred due to CEG tube placement. CONCLUSIONS: A CEG decompression tube is safe for patients with malignant bowel obstruction. The procedure allows patients to undergo additional chemotherapy and be discharged home with a more comfortable tube.

RESUMEN

In this study, the effects of Cl2 radicals on dry development of spin-coated metal oxide resist (MOR) and changes in its surface binding states were investigated to verify the mechanism of dry development. Dry development characteristics of tin hydroxide (Tin OH), which is one of the MOR candidates for next generation lithography, were investigated as functions of process time and temperature using a Cl2 radicals source. Non-UV-exposed Tin OH film showed a linear etch rate (1.77 nm/min) from the initial thickness of ∼50 nm, while the UV-exposed film showed slower etch behavior (1.46 nm/min) in addition to the increase of film thickness for up to 3 min during the Cl2 radical dry development. UV-exposed photoresist (PR) contained more oxygen (Sn-O bonding) in the film due to the removal of butyl compounds from the clusters during the UV exposure process. Therefore, due to the lower reaction of chlorine radicals with Sn-O in the UV-exposed Tin OH than the other bindings, the non-UV-exposed PR was preferentially removed compared to the UV-exposed PR. As the temperature decreases, the overall etch rate decreases, but the difference in etch rate between exposed and unexposed Tin OH becomes larger. Finally, at a substrate temperature of -20 °C, the non-UV-exposed Tin OH with a thickness of 50 nm was completely removed, while ∼30 nm thick PR remained for UV-exposed Tin OH. Eventually, a negative tone development was possible with Cl2 radical plasma due to the difference in activation energy between the UV-exposed and non-UV-exposed films. It is believed that dry development using Cl2 radicals will be one of the most important process techniques for next-generation patterning to remove problems such as pattern leaning, line edge roughness, residue, etc., caused by wet development.

RESUMEN

Sodium-dependent glucose cotransporter-2 (SGLT2) inhibitors, antidiabetic drugs that reduce blood sugar levels by inhibiting glucose reabsorption in the renal proximal tubules, also ameliorate nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). This study aimed to examine the effects of SGLT2 inhibition on hepatic steatosis and nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) using an in vitro model of NAFLD progression. HepG2 cells and a coculture of Hepa1c1c7 and Raw 264.7 cells were treated with 400 µM palmitic acid (PA), followed by treatment with or without 10 µM empagliflozin and dapagliflozin. In HepG2 cells, PA increased hepatic lipid accumulation, the expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines (TNF-α, IL-6, and IL-1ß), exocytosis mediators (VAMP3 and SNAP23), and ER stress markers (GRP78, PERK, IRE1α, ATF6, ATF4, and CHOP), and the gene and protein expression of CD36. SGLT2 inhibitors reversed the effects of PA. SGLT2 inhibition via siRNA reduced proinflammatory-cytokine gene expression in thapsigargin-treated HepG2 cells. Transfection with CD36 siRNA reversed the elevated ATF4 and CHOP expression in PA-treated HepG2 cells. SGLT2 inhibition via an SGTL2 inhibitor and SGLT2 siRNA reduced CD36, Tnf-α, Il-6, Il-1ß, Vamp2, Snap23, Atf4, and Chop expression in the PA-treated Hepa1c1c7-Raw 264.7 cell coculture and suppressed Tnf-α release in the Hepa1c1c7-Raw 264.7 cell coculture treated with lipopolysaccharide and PA. These findings indicate that SGLT2 inhibitors inhibited NAFLD progression by reducing hepatic lipid accumulation and inflammation.

RESUMEN

The drive to enhance the operational durability and reliability of stretchable and wearable electronic and electrochemical devices has led to the exploration of self-healing materials that can recover from both physical and functional failures. In the present study, we fabricated a self-healable solid polymer electrolyte, referred to as an ionogel, using reversible hydrogen bonding between the ureidopyrimidone units of a block copolymer (BCP) network swollen in an ionic liquid (IL). The BCP consisted of poly(styrene-b-(methyl acrylate-r-ureidopyrimidone methacrylate)) [poly(S-b-(MA-r-UPyMA)], with the IL-phobic polystyrene forming micellar cores that were interconnected via intercorona hydrogen bonding between the ureidopyrimidone units. By precisely regulating the molecular weight and the composition of the hydrogen-bondable motifs, the mechanical, electrical, and self-healing characteristics of the ionogel were systematically evaluated. The resulting ionogel samples exhibited suitable stretchability, ionic conductivity, and room-temperature self-healability due to reversible hydrogen bonding. To highlight the applicability of the self-healing ionogel as a high-capacitance gate insulator, an electrolyte-gated transistor (EGT) was fabricated using a poly(3-hexylthiophene-2,5-diyl) semiconductor, and the performance of the EGT was fully recovered from a complete cut without any external stimuli.
