RESUMEN

Rabbits were exposed to vertically directed UV-B radiation (280-320 nm) 5 days a week during 10 months with daily dose 6.5 J/m2 (biological effective daily dose 0.83 J/m2). Within the first week expressed photokeratoconjunctivitis was observed, but to the end of third week state of cornea and conjunctiva became practically normal. Transparency of intra-eye structures was unchanged, functional activity of retina underwent undulatory alterations. Amplitude changes of a- and b-waves of electroretinogram reached 30% of control values during the first, were negligible within the second, and exceed control by 15-20% between 8 and 10-th months of exposure. Critical frequency of flashing was unchanged.

RESUMEN

Using a semi-automatic image analyzer MOP Videoplan, a quantitative histomorphometric investigation of sponge bone of tibial metaphyses, iliac crests and lumbar vertebrae of monkeys kept for 14 days in the head-down position (at -10 degrees) was carried out. This exposure was found to cause spongy bone reduction in all the above bones. The lowered number and activity of osteoblasts as well as the reduced amount of osteoids during the exposure give evidence that the inhibition of bone neoformation makes a significant contribution to osteopenia. The involvement of osteoclast resorption in the spongiosa reduction during head-down tilt needs further study because in our experiments the osteoclast number or acid phosphatase activity did not grow significantly.

RESUMEN

Men and animals (dogs) shared an enclosed environment for 30 days. The microorganisms on their skin and in the air were examined. Specific attention was given to staphylococcal pathogens that are potential causal agents of infectious diseases in enclosed bio-objects. The data obtained suggest that conditional pathogens can be exchanged between men and animals sharing an environment and clarify the mechanism(s) of their transfer. The experimental results have been used to develop prophylactic measures against diseases caused by conditional pathogens among men and animals sharing an enclosed environment.
