RESUMEN

The quantum phase transition observed experimentally in two-dimensional (2D) electron systems has been a subject of theoretical and experimental studies for almost 30 years. We suggest Gaussian approximation to the mean-field theory of the second-order phase transition to explain the experimental data. Our approach explains self-consistently the universal value of the critical exponent 3/2 (found after scaling measured resistivities on both sides of the transition as a function of temperature) as the result of the divergence of the correlation length when the electron density approaches the critical value. We also provide numerical evidence for the stretched exponential temperature dependence of the metallic phase's resistivities in a wide range of temperatures and show that it leads to correct qualitative results. Finally, we interpret the phase diagram on the density-temperature plane exhibiting the quantum critical point, quantum critical trajectory and two crossover lines. Our research presents a theoretical description of the seminal experimental results.

Bioprinting allows additive fabrication of bioengineered constructs with defined two- or three-dimensional organization using live cells, biopolymers and other materials. This article reviews main bioprinting technologies and their capabilities in clinical and experimental ophthalmology. Analysis of literature sources helped reveal and describe the main types of bioprinting technologies: inkjet, laser-assisted, and extrusion. Extrusion bioprinting is the most widely used method, providing the ability to use various types of bioinks and a wide range of cell concentrations. The following materials can be used as the base for bioinks: alginate, collagen, gelatin, hyaluronic acid, chitosan, fibrin, as well as their different combinations. These materials can be modified for best bioprinting properties by adding various functional groups. The major directions of application of bioprinting technologies in ophthalmology are tissue engineering for regenerative medicine and fabrication of model systems for fundamental and preclinical studies. Experiments in creating a bioprinted cornea are being conducted in the field of regenerative medicine. Furthermore, there are studies on fabricating retinal tissue equivalents, although tissue engineering of this structure is a task of great complexity. Model systems, which can be fabricated by bioprinting, are represented by tissue equivalents of ocular structures and the appendages of the eye, as well as by microphysiological organ-on-a-chip systems. Another promising application of bioprinting is fabrication of biocompatible implantable electrode arrays for visual neuroprostheses.

The effective mass at the Fermi level is measured in the strongly interacting two-dimensional (2D) electron system in ultra-clean SiGe/Si/SiGe quantum wells in the low-temperature limit in tilted magnetic fields. At low electron densities, the effective mass is found to be strongly enhanced and independent of the degree of spin polarization, which indicates that the mass enhancement is not related to the electrons' spins. The observed effect turns out to be universal for silicon-based 2D electron systems, regardless of random potential, and cannot be explained by existing theories.

The possibilities of using the chick embryo and its individual structures as a model system in experimental ophthalmology are considered. Cultures of the retina and spinal ganglia from chick embryos are used in the development of new methods for the treatment of glaucomatous optic neuropathy and ischemic optic neuropathy. The chorioallantoic membrane is used for modelling vascular pathologies of the eye, screening of anti-VEGF drugs, and assessing biocompatibility of implants. Co-culturing of chick embryo nervous tissue and human corneal cells makes it possible to study the processes of corneal reinnervation. The use of chick embryo cells and tissues in the "organ-on-a-chip" system opens up wide opportunities for fundamental and applied ophthalmological studies.

Organ-on-chip is a microfluidic device that can reproduce in vitro the minimal functional unit of an organ or system of organs and model various physiological processes and body structures with high accuracy. This review covers the main approaches to the use of the organ-on-chip technology in modern experimental ophthalmology. The analysis of literature sources revealed the following main applications of the organ-on-chip technology in ophthalmology; the technology allows modeling the anterior eye surface and its diseases, such as dry eye syndrome, as well as disorders of the posterior segment of the eye such as age-related macular degeneration, diabetic macular edema, diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma. Culturing of eye tissues in microfluidic systems helps identify the toxic effects and pharmacological activity of new compounds, and provides an opportunity for deeper understanding of the normal physiology of the eye and the pathogenesis of ocular diseases. In addition, the technology can reduce the cost and duration of experiments. Thus, the organ-on-a-chip technology has a great potential in the field of experimental ophthalmology and preclinical trials of new ophthalmic drugs.

Oncolytic viruses are able to replicate in tumor cells and destroy them without affecting normal, healthy tissues. By activating antitumor immunity, viruses are effective against malignant neoplasms of various nature. In lymphoproliferative diseases with a drug-resistant phenotype, many cases of remissions have been described after viral therapy. The current level of understanding of viral biology and the discovery of host cell interaction mechanisms made it possible to create unique strains with high oncoselectivity widely used in clinical practice in recent years.

Loss of vision is a pressing medical and social problem leading to profound disability, loss of ability to work, serious alterations in the psycho-emotional state, and a decline of the quality of life. When conservative or surgical treatment can not help restore vision, the use of visual prosthesis - bionic eye - can be an effective solution. This review covers the main modern approaches to the development of visual prosthetic systems. Analysis of publications revealed that there are several main approaches to visual prosthesis differing primarily by the anatomical structure targeted for stimulation in order to activate visual sensations. The most significant among them are retinal prostheses, optic nerve stimulation, and cortical visual prostheses. Currently, retinal prostheses such as ARGUS II demonstrate the most successful results, since the stimulation of the surviving neural structures of the retina is a relatively easy task, but their field of application is limited to diseases associated with pathological changes in photoreceptors. The development of cortical visual prostheses is more difficult, but in the future they may allow using more stimulation channels to obtain a more detailed visual perception. In addition, cortical visual prostheses are universal, as they do not require preservation of any structures of the visual organ, only the primary visual cortex.

The increase in the resistivity with decreasing temperature followed by a drop by more than one order of magnitude is observed on the metallic side near the zero-magnetic-field metal-insulator transition in a strongly interacting two-dimensional electron system in ultra-clean SiGe/Si/SiGe quantum wells. We find that the temperature [Formula: see text], at which the resistivity exhibits a maximum, is close to the renormalized Fermi temperature. However, rather than increasing along with the Fermi temperature, the value [Formula: see text] decreases appreciably for spinless electrons in spin-polarizing (parallel) magnetic fields. The observed behaviour of [Formula: see text] cannot be described by existing theories. The results indicate the spin-related origin of the effect.

Authors performed investigation on "antigen-antibody" interaction of chicken infectious bronchitis coronavirus (IBV) by a method based on the surface plasmon resonance (SPR). Presence of space-size effect related to a difference between antigen and antibody particle sizes has been theoretically grounded and experimentally proven. Herewith, the difference between responses of the SPR-sensor to specific and non-specific interactions is considerably less (up to 6.3 times) than the expected one (8 - 11 times). An impact of functionalization of sensor's sensitive element surface, as well as acidity of buffer solution on the activity of antigen-antibody interaction was studied here. The difference between sensor's responses to specific and non-specific interactions increased two-fold from 200 to 432ang sec due to this treatment. When changing the acidity of analyzed solution from pH7.3 to pH6.8, the corresponding difference between sensor's responses increased by 6.3 times from 194 up to 1235ang.sec. Thus, an impact of space-size effect on interaction between IBV antigen and specific antibody can be considerably (almost in 3 times) decreased by reducing the acidity of used buffer solution. The results of our investigation can be successfully applied to develop new methods for detection of pathogens and specific antibodies using SPR.

We studied the antioxidant and cytoprotective effects of meconic acid in the model systems. Meconic acid, similar to commercial drug Mexidol, reduced the intensity of chemiluminescence in the model system of yolk lipoproteins. Meconic acid also reduced the toxic effect of glutamate on neurons in the primary cerebellar culture, but had no effect on cell viability under normal conditions.

Multipotent mesenchymal stromal cells (MSC) are the key regulators of hematopoiesis. We studied changes in MSC characteristics in patients with myeloid leukemia and patients with lymphoproliferative diseases. MSC were obtained from the bone marrow of patients at the time of diagnostic puncture using a standard technique. Their proliferative potential and expression of genes associated with differentiation and regulation of hematopoiesis were studied. The total cell production of MSC in patients with leukemia at the onset of the disease did not differ from that in the group of healthy donors. The relative expression of the IL6, TGFb1 and TGFb2, PPARG genes was similar in all patients. The relative expression of the JAG1, LIF, IGF1, CSF1, IL1b, and IL1bR1 genes in MSC of patients with leukemia was enhanced and the relative expression of SDF1 was unchanged in comparison with MSC from donors. MSC from patients with leukemia were characterized by enhanced relative expression of PDGFRA and PDGFRB, and reduced expression of SOX9. Changes functions of the stromal microenvironment in patients with hemoblastoses attested to the role of stromal cells in the maintenance and spread of tumor cells.

Research in recent years has shown that there is a close connection between the brain and the intestine through neuronal, endocrine and immune pathways. The introduction of probiotics into the diet of animals and humans helps to reduce the level of anxiety and depression, as well as inflammatory processes during emotional stress. The aim of this work was to study the effect of intragastric administration of Bifidobacterium adolescentis and Lactobacillus acidophilus on oxidative processes in the brain tissues and the level of anxiety in rats under conditions of normoxia and acute hypoxia with hypercapnia. Material and methods. The experiment was performed on 64 male Wistar rats aged 2.5 months (body weight from 240 to 270 g). The animals were divided into 4 groups: group 1 - control; 2 - hypoxia; 3 - hypoxia + probiotics; 4 - probiotics. There were 16 animals in each group; half of them participated in the behavioral test, and the other half in the biochemical studies. Rats of groups 3 and 4 were orally administered lyophilized bacteria Bifidobacterium adolescentis MC-42, Lactobacillus acidophilus A-97, and Lactobacillus acidophilus A-630 for 30 days before hypoxia. The daily dose of probiotics was 1×109 CFU per animal, administered in a volume of 1 ml. Acute hypoxia with hypercapnia was simulated by placing rats in airtight vessels with a capacity of 1 L before the first agonal inhalation. A day later, in the brain tissues oxidative processes were assessed by the chemiluminescence method and by the level of malone dialdehyde (MDA). The activity of catalase in brain tissues was also determined. The level of anxiety of rats was investigated in the «elevated plus maze¼ test. Results. Compared to other groups, more intensive free radical oxidation took place in the brain tissues of hypoxified animals that did not receive B. adolescentis and L. acidophilus. There was a significant increase in chemiluminescence intensity and MDA level by 38 and 15%, respectively, compared with the control. In the brain tissues of these animals, catalase activity was reduced by 10% (p<0.01). Moreover, in the group of rats treated with B. adolescentis and L. acidophilus and subjected to acute hypoxia, the value of the light sum of chemiluminescence was 22% lower (p<0.01) than in the hypoxified group without taking probiotics, while the concentration of MDA and catalase activity remained at the level of physiological norms and did not differ from control. Hypoxified animals receiving biomass of lactobacteria and bifidobacteria had also a lower level of anxiety and a higher exploratory activity, expressed in an increase in the number of entries in the open and closed arms, a longer stay in the open arms and the center of the maze, and more frequent performance of orientation reactions and hanging. Conclusion. Pre-hypoxic administration of B. adolescentis and L. acidophilus reduces the development of oxidative stress in rat brain tissues and reduces anxiety indices in the "elevated plus maze" test, thereby exhibiting antioxidant and anxiolytic effects.

Analysis of microsatellite instability (MSI) is a routine study in the diagnostics of solid malignancies. The standard for determining MSI is a pentaplex PCR panel of mononucleotide repeats: NR-21, NR-24, NR-27, BAT-25, BAT-26. The presence of MSI is established based on differences in the length of markers in the tumor tissue and in the control, but due to the quasimonomorphic nature of standard mononucleotide loci the use of a control sample is not necessary in the diagnosis of MSI-positive solid tumors. The significance of the MSI phenomenon in oncohematology has not been established. This paper presents the results of a study of MSI in B-cell lymphomas: follicular lymphoma (FL), diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL), high-grade B-cell lymphoma (HGBL). We have shown that aberrations of mononucleotide markers occur in these diseases, but the nature of the changes does not correspond to the classical MSI in solid neoplasms. This fact requires further study of the pathogenesis of such genetic disorders. Due to the possibility of ambiguous interpretation of the results of the MSI study for previously uncharacterized diseases, strict compliance with the methodology of parallel analysis of the tumor tissue and the control sample is mandatory.

OBJECTIVE: to determine the impact of the irradiated in vitro blood cells from patients with B-cell chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) on the level of chromosomal instability in peripheral blood lymphocytes (PBL) from healthy persons during the development of tumor-induced bystander effect. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Separate and joint cultivation of PBL from healthy persons (cells-bystanders) together withblood cells from CLL patients irradiated in vitro at the G0 stage of the mitotic cycle by γ-quanta 137Cs in a dose of0.5 Gy 137Cs (cells-inductors) was used. For joint cultivation our own model system for co-cultivation of PBL fromindividuals of different sex, designed by us to investigate the bystander effects at the cytogenetic level was used.Traditional cytogenetic analysis of uniformly painted chromosomes with group karyotyping was performed. The frequency of chromosome aberrations in cells-inductors and cells-bystanders as the markers of chromosome instability were determined. RESULTS: Found that at co-cultivation of PBL from healthy individuals with irradiated blood cells from CLL patientsthe middle group frequency of chromosome aberrations in the bystander cells (5.18 ± 0.51 per 100 metaphases,p < 0.001) was statistically significant higher than its background level determined at a separate cultivaton (1.52± 0.30 per 100 metaphases), and at co-cultivation with non-irradiated blood cells from CLL patients (3.31 ± 0.50 per100 metaphases, p < 0.01). CONCLUSIONS: Co-cultivation of in vitro irradiated blood cells from CLL patients with PBL from healthy persons leadsto an increase in the level of chromosome instability in the bystander cells due to synergism between tumor-inducedand radiation-induced bystander effects.

Here, we describe the draft genome sequence of Bacillus velezensis strain X-BIO-1, which contains 16 contigs, comprising 3,861,135 bp with a G+C content of 46.54%. The annotated draft genome contains 3,710 protein-coding genes and 62 RNA genes. We identified genes responsible for the synthesis of various antibiotics.

AIM: This study conducted the possibilities of diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging of the whole body diffusion WB-MRI (in comparison with positron emission tomography with computed tomography PET/CT) in assessing the volume and prevalence of the tumor, as well as determining bone marrow (BM) damage (for various cytological types) in the diagnosis and staging of the disease in patients with FL. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A prospective comparative search study included 15 patients (4 men and 11 women, with a median age of 53 years) with newly diagnosed FL. Patients have not received antitumor chemotherapy previously. After the diagnosis was established, all patients (with the blindness of both the cases themselves and some specialists regarding the results of other specialists) were examined by PET/CT and diffusion WB-MRI, after which a BM examination was performed (histological examination and determination of B-cell clonality in BM puncture by PCR). Using the diffusion WB-MRI method, the prevalence of tumor lesion (nodal and extranodal foci) in each patient was estimated, and the total tumor volume was calculated, BM lesion was detected, and BM lesion volume was calculated. For lesions of different localization, the measured diffusion coefficient (DC) of the diffusion WB-MRI and the standardized rate of accumulation of the radiopharmaceutical in tissues (SUV) of the PET/CT method were determined and compared with each other (for the same areas). Statistical analysis was performed using the estimate of agreement (by Cohens kappa coefficient and asymptotic test) of the results of the compared methods. RESULTS: Estimates of the prevalence of tumor damage (lymph nodes and extranodal foci) using the diffusion WB-MRI and PET/CT methods were the same. High DC and SUV were observed in the peripheral lymph nodes, extranodal foci and bulky, low DC and SUV in the foci of BM. All 4 methods successfully determined BM damage, however, the diffusion WB-MRI had comparatively less negative results. The highest values of SUV and CD were noted in cases of the 3 grade of FL. Using the diffusion WB-MRI method, the prevalence of tumor lesion was assessed in each patient (nodal and extranodal foci were detected) and the total tumor volume was calculated, BM lesion detection was performed, and the volume of BM lesion was calculated. It is important to note that with the help of diffusion WB-MRI, it was possible to measure separately the total tumor volume (462025 cm3) and separately the volume of bulky (251358 cm3). The diffusion WB-MRI allowed us to differentiate the volume of tumor tissue (reduced as a result of treatment) and residual (fibrous-adipose) tissue in residual formations (which averaged 21% of the initial volume). The predictors of a poor antitumor response were the maximum SUV values (more than 14.0) and the minimum DC values (0.510-3mm2/s) in the BM foci. CONCLUSION: The diffusion WB-MRI allows for detailed visualization of BM lesions and surrounding soft tissues both in the debut of the FL and in the process of tracking the effectiveness of chemotherapy, which makes it possible to use it along with PET/CT. Diffusion WB-MRI allows to separately evaluate the volume of true tumor tissue and residual tissue. Cases of the 3 grade of FL (including the transformation of FL into diffuse B-large cell lymphoma) are isolated due to low DC values (and high SUV values) in the tumor tissue. BM foci of FL lesion also have (in comparison with nodal and extranodal foci) lower DC values. The predictors of a poor antitumor response were high (from 14.0 or more) SUV valuesin the tumor (and especially in bulky), and low (about 0.5103mm2/s) DC values of BM foci. The PET/CT and diffusion WB-MRI have proven to be reliable diagnostic tools for establishing the stage of FL and detecting BM damage. Diffusion WB-MRI for FL is an informative first-line diagnostic method that allows regular monitoring of the disease and early detection of foci of relapse and disease progression.

Surgical pathology of the musculoskeletal system, and in particular the diseases of the limb distal segment in pigs are quite common. Their significant spread leads to economic losses due to culling, compulsory slaughter, short-received pig production and pig crop. The purpose of this work was to reveal clinical and morphological features of limb distal segment diseases in pigs and to study the possibility of preserving their health and productivity. The conservative treatment of purulonecrotic lesions in the deep structures of the limb distal segment in pigs is not promising. It is shown that the best way to treat a given pathology is amputation of a sick limb. The technique of carrying out exarticulation of talus shin consists in separation of soft tissues, capsule and ligaments, ligation of vessels, formation of stump. The postoperative recovery period of the animal body is 25 days.(AU)


A patologia cirúrgica do sistema musculoesquelético e, em particular, as doenças do segmento distal dos membros em suínos são bastante comuns. A sua propagação significativa leva a perdas econômicas devido ao abate seletivo, abate obrigatório, produção de suínos pouco recebida e colheita de suínos. O objetivo deste trabalho foi revelar características clínicas e morfológicas das doenças do segmento distal de membros em suínos e estudar a possibilidade de preservar sua saúde e produtividade. O tratamento conservador das lesões purulonecróticas nas estruturas profundas do segmento distal do membro em porcos não é promissor. Fica estabelecido que a melhor forma de tratar uma determinada patologia é a amputação de um membro doente. A técnica de realizar a exarticulação da canela do talos consiste na separação dos tecidos moles, cápsula e ligamentos, ligadura dos vasos, formação do coto. O período de recuperação pós-operatória do corpo do animal é de 25 dias.(AU)

We studied changes in the bone tissue in patients with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma at the onset of the disease (N=41; before chemotherapy) and 5-16 years after the end of treatment (N=47). Osteodensitometry, biochemical markers of osteoporosis in the blood and urine, and gene expression in multipotent mesenchymal stromal cells were analyzed. In multipotent mesenchymal stromal cells of all patients, the expression of genes associated with bone and cartilage differentiation (FGF2, FGFR1, FGFR2, BGLAP, SPP1, TGFB1, and SOX9) was changed. In primary patients, the ratio of deoxypyridinoline/creatinine in the urine and blood level of ß-cross-laps were increased, while plasma concentration of vitamin D was reduced, which indicates activation of bone resorption. No differences between the groups were revealed by osteodensitometry. No direct relationship between changes in gene expression in multipotent mesenchymal stromal cells and osteoporosis markers was found. The presence of a tumor in the body affects the bone marrow stroma, but achievement of remission and compensatory mechanisms provide age-appropriate condition of the bone tissue.

INTRODUCTION: Medicines from the group of interferon inducers (IFNs) "swith on" the synthesis of type 1 interferons (IFN-I) and induce the expression of IFN-stimulated genes (ISGs) that regulate innate immunity reactions and protect the host from infectious agents and the tumour pathology.The purpose of the study was to determine the role of the drug celagrip (CA) in the activation of innate immunity genes and the effect on the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in patients with follicular lymphoma (FL). OBJECTIVES:  to study the intensity of ROS production and the level of expression of the IFN-α2, IFN-λ1, ISG15, BCL2, P53(TP53) and USP18 genes in response to the treatment of blood cells of patients with FL with the preparation of CA. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The study involved primary cancer patients diagnosed with follicular lymphoma (FL) and healthy volunteers. A kinetic analysis of the dynamics of production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) was performed in whose blood cells, and the expression of the group of genes was determined by real-time PCR in response to CA processing. RESULTS AND DISCUSSION: ROS production by blood cells of patients with FL and volunteers in the presence of CA significantly decreased (P < 0.05). The level of gene expression of ISG15, P53(TR53) and USP 18 in the group of patients with FL was significantly higher than that in the group of volunteers. When treating blood cells with CA, it becomes possible to divide patients with FL into groups with a positive and negative response in accordance with the level of expression of the USP18 gene. We divided FL patients into groups with a positive and negative response in accordance with the level of USP18 gene expression after treatment of blood cells with CA. CONCLUSIONS: The CA drug reduces the production of ROS and simultaneously stimulates the activity of the innate immunity genes ISG15, P53(TP53) and USP18 in the blood cells of patients with FL.
