RESUMEN

All-solid-state lithium-sulfur batteries (ASSLSBs) have attracted intense interest due to their high theoretical energy density and intrinsic safety. However, constructing durable lithium (Li) metal anodes with high cycling efficiency in ASSLSBs remains challenging due to poor interface stability. Here, a compositionally stable, self-lithiated tin (Sn)-carbon (C) composite interlayer (LSCI) between Li anode and solid-state electrolyte (SSE), capable of homogenizing Li-ion transport across the interlayer, mitigating decomposition of SSE, and enhancing electrochemical/structural stability of interface, is developed for ASSLSBs. The LSCI-mediated Li metal anode enables stable Li plating/stripping over 7000 h without Li dendrite penetration. The ASSLSBs equipped with LSCI thus exhibit excellent cycling stability of over 300 cycles (capacity retention of ≈80%) under low applied pressure (<8 MPa) and demonstrate improved rate capability even at 3C. The enhanced electrochemical performance and corresponding insights of the designed LSCI broaden the spectrum of advanced interlayers for interface manipulation, advancing the practical application of ASSLSBs.

BACKGROUND: Sirolimus is increasingly utilized in treating diseases associated with mTOR pathway overactivation. Despite its potential, the lack of evidence regarding its long-term safety across all age groups, particularly in pediatric patients, has limited its further application. This study aims to assess the long-term safety of sirolimus, with a specific focus on its impact on growth patterns in pediatric patients. METHODS: This pooled analysis inlcudes two prospective cohort studies spanning 10 years, including 1,738 participants (aged 5 days to 69 years) diagnosed with tuberous sclerosis and/or lymphangioleiomyomatosis. All participants were mTOR inhibitor-naive and received 1 mg/m²/day of sirolimus, with dose adjustments during a two-week titration period to maintain trough blood concentrations between 5 and 10 ng/ml (maximum dose 2 mg). Indicators of physical growth, hematopoietic, liver, renal function, and blood lipid levels were all primary outcomes and were analyzed. The adverse events and related management were also recorded. RESULTS: Sirolimus administration did not lead to deviations from normal growth ranges, but higher doses exhibited a positive association with Z-scores exceeding 2 SD in height, weight, and BMI. Transient elevations in red blood cell and white blood cell counts, along with hyperlipidemia, were primarily observed within the first year of treatment. Other measured parameters remained largely unchanged, displaying only weak correlations with drug use. Stomatitis is the most common adverse event (920/1738, 52.9%). In adult females, menstrual disorders were observed in 48.5% (112/217). CONCLUSIONS: Sirolimus's long-term administration is not associated with adverse effects on children's physical growth pattern, nor significant alterations in hematopoietic, liver, renal function, or lipid levels. A potential dose-dependent influence on growth merits further exploration. TRIAL REGISTRATION: Pediatric patients: Chinese clinical trial registry, No. ChiCTR-OOB-15,006,535. Citrinin (CIT), a mycotoxin produced by Monascus, Penicillium, and other fungies, can contaminate red yeast rice and other foods, thus constraining their application and development. Exploring efficient degradation methods of citrinin is becoming as one of the hot research topics. In this study, the degradation of citrinin, irradiated by visible (Vis) light, ultraviolet (UV) light, and simulated sunlight alone, as well as in combination with hydrogen peroxide (light/H2O2), was investigated. The research demonstrates UV, Vis, and simulated sunlight all have a degree of degradation on citrinin, and the degradation efficiency correlates with light source and light intensity. Interestingly, when combined with 100 W Vis and 0.01 M H2O2, the citrinin degradation rate increases to 32%, compared to 1% and 5% achieved by Vis and H2O2 alone. Hydroxyl radicals, arising from the uniform cracking of H2O2 under Vis, were experimentally validated by electron spin resonance measurement and could accelerate the dissociation of citrinin by nucleophilic attacking. Employing the density functional theory, we deduced nucleophilic •OH mainly attack onto C8 and C5 site by comparing the electrophilic Parr functions (Pk+) value of main C atom of citrinin. This research presents a rapid and efficient degradation of citrinin by combining visible light with H2O2. PRACTICAL APPLICATION: This research presents a rapid and efficient method for the degradation of citrnin in red yeast rice and other citrnin containing products by combining visible light with H2O2.

BACKGROUND: The viability of advance care planning (ACP) in cultures where discussing future desires is taboo is unclear, it is essential to examine the challenges faced by Chinese nurses lacking legal protection for ACP. AIMS: To comprehend Chinese oncology nurses' perceptions of serious illness conversation and ACP, and identify barriers to engagement. METHODS: A qualitative descriptive exploratory study involving semi-structured interviews with 13 experienced oncology nurses, analyzed using thematic analysis and critical incident technique, following the Consolidated Criteria for Reporting Qualitative Research (COREQ) guidelines. FINDINGS: Four themes emerged: Inadequate Competence Causes Patient Harm, Cultural Influences to Patient Autonomy, Psychological Tolerance Neglects Best Interests, and Systemic and Legal Uncertainties Impact Patient Rights. CONCLUSION: Policy changes supporting nurses in ACP implementation, a 'whole-system strategic approach' involving legislative changes, organizational support, and public awareness are crucial for optimizing ACP and meeting diverse patient needs.

In space optical applications, the piezoelectric-actuated fast steering mirror (FSM) is one of the pivotal components for high-precision beam capturing and trajectory tracking. The FSM is restrained in small-angle scanning applications due to the short actuation stroke of the incorporated piezoelectric materials. This study introduces a dual-axis sub-radian stroke FSM with a high ratio of output range to resolution and self-sensing capability, based on cascading structures for displacement amplification and flexible parts for feedback. Theoretical analyses and finite element analysis (FEA) are applied to elucidate the driving and deformation mechanisms of the proposed FSM structure. To ensure the performance of the proposed FSM, the double-loop control strategies are implemented independently for rotation around the two orthogonal axes. Experimental results reveal that both axes can rotate 148.67 mrad under the closed-loop control, with the ratio of output range to resolution larger than 3.90 × 104, superior to existing FSMs. We further demonstrate with designed experiments of tracking complex trajectories that the relative tracking accuracy error remains lower than 0.02%.

Government intervention has become an important measure to restrain groundwater overexploitation. This paper analyzes the effect of three types of government intervention measures, namely, guidance, incentive and constraint, on farmers' groundwater utilization behavior, from the perspective of scale-heterogeneity, using general quantile regression model, by survey data of 1122 households in well irrigation area of north China. The results showed that: (1) the incentive and guiding measures have negative effects on farmers' groundwater usage, while the effect of restrictive measures is not obvious. The guided policy is superior to the incentive measure as to governance effect. (2) With the increase of farmers' land scale, the influence of incentive measures shows a trend of weakening, and the effect of guided measures on groundwater demand reduction of farmers is stronger. When it comes to the different point of water consumption, when at the point level of 0.25, the incentive measures have the most obvious inhibitory effect. With the increase of water consumption of farmers, the guided measures begin to play a core role. The effect of restrictive measures is not obvious with the increase of water consumption. (3) In addition, farmers' irrigation water consumption also is affected by gender, cognition of water resources shortage, ecological cognitive level, acquisition ability of disaster information, village rain conditions, the degree of water rights market development, feelings of water fee increase, irrigated disputes in the village, collective economic level of village. The selection of policy tools is flexible according to the farmers' land scale for groundwater over-extraction control.

Objective: To explore the perspectives and needs related to fertility preservation decision-making in patients of childbearing age with breast cancer. Methods: Semistructured face-to-face interviews were conducted in a tertiary hospital in Baoding, China from July to October 2023. Purposive sampling was used to ensure the diversity of samples. The interview guide is based on the literature review and the discussions within the research team. A traditional content analysis approach was used for data analysis. Results: A total of 18 participants were interviewed. Three themes emerged from the data: conflicts between subjective desires and concerns, coexistence of objective benefits and challenges, and decision-making support needs. The conflicts between subjective desires and concerns included five sub-themes, the coexistence of objective benefits and challenges also included five sub-themes, and the decision-making support needs included two sub-themes. Conclusions: Patients faced a difficult trade-off between desires and concerns, benefits, and challenges regarding fertility preservation decisions, with numerous unmet needs. Healthcare professionals should prioritize patients' fertility desires, providing timely fertility preservation information and adequate counseling after a cancer diagnosis. This approach can help alleviate unnecessary concerns, facilitate satisfactory decision-making, and improve patients' quality of life.

PURPOSE: To compare and analyze the orthodontic effects of micro-implant screw support and flat guide plate on excessive deep overbite of lower anterior teeth. METHODS: Eighty-two patients with excessive deep overbite of the lower anterior teeth who were treated from January to December 2022 were selected and randomly divided into two groups (41 in each group) by random number table method. Both groups were treated with straight wire arch orthodontic technology, and the anterior teeth were supported by micro-implant screws (micro-implant screw group) and flat guide plates (flat guide plate group), respectively. The effect of upper anterior tooth compression, changes in occlusal plane, and apical absorption were compared between the two groups. SPSS 25.0 software package was used for statistical analysis. RESULTS: There were no significant changes in SNA angle, SNB angle, ANB angle, U1-PP, U6-PP, and L6-MP before and after treatment between the two groups (P>0.05). L1-MP significantly increased in both groups after treatment than before treatment(P<0.05). There was no significant difference in bite opening, Spee curve depth, U1 depression, L1 depression, U6 elongation, L6 elongation and occlusal opening time between the two groups before and after treatment(P>0.05). The root apex absorption of the mandibular central incisors and lateral incisors in the micro-implant screw group was significantly lower than that in the flat guide plate group(P<0.05), while there was no significant difference in root apex absorption between the two groups of canines(P>0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Both micro-implant screw support and flat guide plate can effectively lower the mandibular anterior teeth in the treatment of deep overbite in adults, with good orthodontic effects. However, the latter can lead to increased root resorption.

OBJECTIVE: To assess the effectiveness of optimized ex-vivo liver resection and autotransplantation (ELRA) for treating liver malignancies. SUMMARY BACKGROUND DATA: ELRA is a promising surgery for radical resection of conventionally unresectable tumors, despite the disappointing long-term prognosis during its' developmental stages. A recent multicenter study reported 5-year overall and disease-free survival rates (OS, DFS) of 28% and 20.8%, respectively. METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed data of patients who underwent ELRA for advanced liver cancers between 2009 and 2022. We applied ELRA via our novel surgical indication classification system where the surgical risk with curative intent for advanced liver malignancy was controllable using the ex-vivo approach. The ELRA was optimized for determinacy, predictability, and controllability via the precision liver surgery paradigm (PLS). RESULTS: Thirty-seven cases with liver malignancies were enrolled. The operative time and anhepatic phase duration were 649.6±200.0 and 261.2±74.5 min, respectively, while the intraoperative blood loss was 1902±1192 mL. Negative resection margins were achieved in all patients, and the 90-day morbidity at Clavien-Dindo IIIa/IIIb and mortality rates were 27.0% and 24.3%. Post-ELRA 1-, 3-, and 5-year actual OS rates were 62.2%, 37.8%, and 35.1%, respectively, and 1-, 3-, and 5-year actual DFS were 43.2%, 24.3%, and 18.9%, respectively. CONCLUSIONS: Long-term outcomes of ELRA under the PLS for advanced liver malignancy were favorable. Appropriate criteria for disease selection & surgical indications and optimized procedures together can improve surgical treatment and patient prognosis.

Jacaranda mimosifolia is widely cultivated as a garden ornamental tree. In July 2023, an unknown root collar canker of J. mimosifolia was discovered in green belts of Qingxiu District, Nanning, China, with a 8% incidence rate. Crowns of affected trees ranged from reddish brown leaves to deciduous or dead. Root collar tissue became necrotic matched by underbark dark brown lesions with irregular margins, and rotted at last. Six diseased plants distributed within 3000 m2 were choosed, and 24 root collar tissues were surface sterilized and placed on potato dextrose agar (PDA) plates to incubate at 28℃ for 3 to 5 days. Same colonies were consistently isolated from 18 tissues, and three isolates (M3-B1-1, M3-B1-2 and M3-B1-3) were purified for morphological and molecular determination. These isolates formed colonies with lush aerial mycelia rapidly, which covered a 90 mm plate in 72h. The colonies were initially white, then grayish-green to black. Arthrospores were colourless to light brown, short columnar, aseptate, truncate base, averaging 12.1±2.5 µm × 3.4±0.7 µm, sometimes formed arthric chains. Chlamydospores were dark brown, round or oval, aseptate, averaging 8.7±1.6 µm × 5.0±0.9 µm. Mature pycnidia and conidia produced for about 50 days on oatmeal agar medium (OMA), and conidia were colorless, oblong, aseptate, averaging 11.2±1.2 µm × 6.0±1.4 µm. These morphological characteristics were consistent with the description of Neoscytalidium dimidiatum (Penz.) Crous & Slippers (Crous et al. 2006). Genomic DNA was extracted from three isolates. The partial ITS region, TUB2 and TEF1-α genes were amplified (White et al., 1990; Glass and Donaldson 1995; Carbone and Kohn 1999). The sequences were deposited in GenBank (ITS: PP939650-PP939652; TUB2: PP942728-PP942730; TEF1-α: PP942731-PP942733). Blastn analysis revealed that ITS sequences of three isolates showed 99.8%, 100%, 100% identity (506 bp out of 507 bp, 507 bp out of 507 bp, 507 bp out of 507 bp) to N. dimidiatum C21 (KX447539), the TUB2 sequences showed 100% identity (436 bp out of 436 bp, 437 bp out of 437 bp, 437 bp out of 437 bp) to N.dimidiatum LNeo (ON099066), and the TEF1-α sequences showed 99.64% identity (276 bp out of 277 bp) to N.dimidiatum ARM230 (MK495384), respectively. Phylogenetic analysis based on concatenated ITS, TUB2 and TEF1-α sequences showed that three isolates were clustered into the same clade as N. dimidiatum. To fulfill Koch's postulates, pathogenicity of these isolates was tested on healthy two-year-old J. mimosifolia trees. Stem and root collar were wounded and placed mycelial plugs (8mm), and the inoculation sites were wrapped with parafilm or covered with nursery substrate to maintain the humidity. Four plants were inoculated with each isolate. As a control, four plants were inoculated with noncolonized PDA plugs. All treated plants were kept in a greenhouse at 28 ± 3°C and 70% relative humidity. Foliar blight and necrotic lesions around inoculation points were observed about 65 days after inoculation, and 50% of inoculated trees exhibited symptoms, whereas the control trees remained symptomless. Neoscytalidium dimidiatum was successfully reisolated from symptomatic tissue via morphological analysis. To our knowledge, this is the first report of root collar canker caused by N. dimidiatum on J. mimosifolia. Neoscytalidium dimidiatum has a wide range of hosts, including pitaya, pine, mulberry, pear, grape, locust tree (Luo et al. 2024). This finding will help in controlling of the disease epidemic.

BACKGROUND: The extent of intrahepatic infiltration of perihilar cholangiocarcinoma (PHCC) remains unclear. This research aimed to explore the pattern and extent of intrahepatic infiltration of PHCC to guide surgical treatment and pathological research. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This study included 62 patients diagnosed with PHCC who underwent major hepatectomy. A whole-mount digital liver pathology system (WDLPS) for hepatectomy specimens greater than 10 × 10 cm was used to panoramically assess the intrahepatic infiltration extent of PHCC. RESULTS: The distal intrahepatic infiltration (DIHI) and radial liver invasion (RLI) were important parts of intrahepatic infiltration for PHCC explored by WDLPS. The study confirmed that 75.8% of PHCCs had RLI and the infiltration distance in all patients were within 15,000 µm, 62.9% of PHCCs had DIHI greater than 1 cm away from the main tumor in liver parenchyma. The recurrence-free survival rates and overall survival rates of patients with DIHI were poorer than the patients without DIHI (P<0.0001, P=0.0038). Arterial invasion on the resected side could be an excellent predictor. A total of 105 liver lobes were resected from 62 PHCC patients. The invasion rates of the left lateral, left medial, right anterior, and right posterior lobe of PHCC were 79%, 100, 100%, and 69% respectively. CONCLUSION: The presence of DIHI in most PHCCs was a significant predictor of poor postoperative recurrence and survival. Based on the extent of intrahepatic infiltration, minor hepatectomy was not suitable as the curative surgery for PHCC. Major hepatectomy and liver transplantation were the ideal radical treatment.

PURPOSE: Survivors of adolescent and young adult (AYA) cancer face significant psychological distress and encounter barriers accessing mental health care. However, limited research exists on psychological health among lesbian, gay, and bisexual (LGB) survivors of AYA cancer, particularly in comparison with heterosexual survivors and LGB individuals without a history of cancer. METHODS: Using the National Health Interview Survey (2013-2018), we identified LGB survivors of AYA cancer, LGB individuals without a history of cancer, and heterosexual survivors of AYA cancer. Sociodemographic, chronic health conditions, modifiable factors (such as smoking and alcohol use), and psychological outcomes were assessed using chi-square tests. Logistic regression models, adjusted for survey weights, evaluated the odds of psychological distress by cancer status after accounting for covariates. Interactions between variables and cancer status were explored. RESULTS: The study comprised 145 LGB survivors, 1450 LGB individuals without a history of cancer, and 1450 heterosexual survivors. Compared to heterosexual survivors, LGB survivors were more likely to report severe distress (aOR = 2.26, p = 0.021) and had higher odds of reporting a mental health care visit (aOR = 1.98, p = 0.003). Odds of severe distress (aOR = 1.36, p = 0.36) and reporting a mental health care visit (aOR = 1.27, p = 0.29) were similar between LGB survivors and LGB individuals without a history of cancer. While 47.8% of LGB survivors reported moderate/severe distress, only 29.7% reported a mental health care visit. CONCLUSION: A history of cancer during the AYA years is associated higher odds of severe psychological distress among LGB survivors compared to heterosexual survivors. However, many LGB survivors with psychological distress have not accessed mental health care.

BACKGROUND: Stapokibart/CM310, a humanized monoclonal antibody targeting the interleukin-4 receptor α chain, has shown promising treatment benefits in patients with moderate-to-severe atopic dermatitis in previous phase II clinical trials. OBJECTIVE: We aimed to evaluate the long-term efficacy and safety of stapokibart in adults with moderate-to-severe atopic dermatitis. METHODS: Enrolled patients who previously completed parent trials of stapokibart received a subcutaneous stapokibart 600-mg loading dose, then 300 mg every 2 weeks up to 52 weeks. Efficacy outcomes included the proportions of patients with ≥ 50%/75%/90% improvements from baseline of parent trials in the Eczema Area and Severity Index, Investigator's Global Assessment, and weekly average of the daily Peak Pruritus Numerical Rating Scale. RESULTS: In total, 127 patients were enrolled, and 110 (86.6%) completed the study. At week 52, the Eczema Area and Severity Index-50/75/90 response rates were 96.3%, 87.9%, and 71.0%, respectively. An Investigator's Global Assessment 0/1 with a ≥ 2-point reduction was achieved in 39.3% of patients at week 16, increasing to 58.9% at week 52. The proportions of patients with ≥ 3-point and ≥ 4-point reductions in the weekly average of daily Peak Pruritus Numerical Rating Scale scores were 80.2% and 62.2%, respectively, at week 52. Improvement in patients' quality of life was sustained over a 52-week treatment period. Treatment-emergent adverse events occurred in 88.2% of patients, with an exposure-adjusted event rate of 299.2 events/100 patient-years. Coronavirus disease 2019, upper respiratory tract infection, and conjunctivitis were the most common treatment-emergent adverse events. CONCLUSIONS: Long-term treatment with stapokibart for 52 weeks showed high efficacy and good safety profiles, supporting its use as a continuous long-term treatment option for atopic dermatitis. OBJECTIVES: This study aims to identify autonomous risk factors for postoperative dysphagia in oral cancer patients and construct a nomogram prediction model to improve risk assessment accuracy and feasibility in clinical settings. METHODS: A prospective cohort study was conducted from March to July 2022 among oral cancer patients undergoing surgical interventions at the Department of Head and Neck Surgery. Clinical data were collected using the Postoperative Dysphagia Risk Factor Questionnaire. Swallowing function was assessed with the Mann Assessment of Swallowing Ability-Oral Cancer (MASA-OC). Lasso regression identified potential predictor variables, followed by univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses. A predictive model was developed using R Studio 4.1.2 and rigorously evaluated with ROC curves, Hosmer-Lemeshow tests, and calibration curves. Internal validation utilized Bootstrap methodology with 1000 repetitive samples. RESULTS: The cohort included 257 oral cancer patients, with 73.9 % experiencing postoperative dysphagia. Independent predictors included functional status, depressive symptoms, pT stage, surgical techniques, glossoplasty, maxillectomy, and post-surgery nasopharyngeal tube retention. The predictive model achieved an AUC of 0.933, sensitivity of 90.9 %, and specificity of 81.7 %. Hosmer-Lemeshow test (P = 0.715) and C-index (0.934) indicated satisfactory model fit. Internal validation yielded an AUC of 0.912, sensitivity of 93.3 %, and specificity of 63.8 %. Calibration curves demonstrated alignment between predicted and observed outcomes. CONCLUSION: A nomogram integrating recognized risk factors shows promise in predicting postoperative dysphagia in oral cancer patients, enhancing precision and aiding healthcare professionals in risk evaluation and patient care strategies.

BACKGROUND: Addison's disease and X-linked adrenoleukodystrophy (X-ALD) (Addison's-only) are two diseases that need to be identified. Addison's disease is easy to diagnose clinically when only skin and mucosal pigmentation symptoms are present. However, X-ALD (Addison's-only) caused by ABCD1 gene variation is ignored, thus losing the opportunity for early treatment. This study described two patients with initial clinical diagnosis of Addison's disease. However, they rapidly developed neurological symptoms triggered by infection. After further genetic testing, the two patients were diagnosed with X-ALD. METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed X-ALD patients admitted to our hospital. Clinical features, laboratory test results, and imaging data were collected. Whole-exome sequencing was used in molecular genetics. RESULTS: Two patients were included in this study. Both of them had significantly increased adrenocorticotropic hormone level and skin and mucosal pigmentation. They were initially clinically diagnosed with Addison's disease and received hydrocortisone treatment. However, both patients developed progressive neurological symptoms following infectious disease. Further brain magnetic resonance imaging was completed, and the results suggested demyelinating lesions. Molecular genetics suggested variations in the ABCD1 gene, which were c.109_110insGCCA (p.C39Pfs*156), c.1394-2 A > C (NM_000033), respectively. Therefore, the two patients were finally diagnosed with X-ALD, whose classification had progressed from X-ALD (Addison's-only) to childhood cerebral adrenoleukodystrophy (CCALD). Moreover, the infection exacerbates the demyelinating lesions and accelerates the onset of neurological symptoms. Neither the two variation sites in this study had been previously reported, which extends the ABCD1 variation spectrum. CONCLUSIONS: Patients with only symptoms of adrenal insufficiency cannot be simply clinically diagnosed with Addison's disease. Being alert to the possibility of ABCD1 variation is necessary, and complete genetic testing is needed as soon as possible to identify X-ALD (Addison's-only) early to achieve regular monitoring of the disease and receive treatment early. In addition, infection, as a hit factor, may aggravate demyelinating lesions of CCALD. Thus, patients should be protected from external environmental factors to delay the progression of cerebral adrenoleukodystrophy.

PURPOSE: To observe the effect of orthodontics combined with restoration on masticatory function in deep overbite patients with severe lower anterior teeth attrition. METHODS: From January 2018 to January 2022, a total of 164 deep overbite patients with severe lower anterior teeth attrition were collected and divided into two groups according to different treatment plans: control group(72 patients, with restoration treatment) and experimental group(92 patients, with orthodontics combined with restoration treatment). The chewing efficiency of the two groups was evaluated, temporomandibular joint dysfunction index (DI), muscle palpation index (PI) and cranio-mandibular index (CMI) were calculated. The satisfaction with facial esthetic, the Chinese version of Oral Health Impact Scale-14(OHIP-14) and the repair satisfaction score were evaluated, the occurrence of adverse events between the two groups was compared. SPSS 23.0 software package was used for statistical analysis. RESULTS: After treatment, the chewing efficiency of the experimental group was significantly improved compared to the control group, while the DI, PI, and CMI were significantly reduced compared to the control group(P<0.05). Compared with the control group, the satisfaction degree with facial esthetic and restoration in the experimental group was significantly higher, while the OHIP-14 score was significantly lower after treatment(P<0.05). The incidence of adverse events in the experimental group was significantly decreased compared with the control group (6.52% vs 25.00%, P<0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Combination of orthodontics and restoration treatment can enhance the effectiveness of restoration treatment for deep overbite with severe lower anterior teeth attrition, improve the mastication function and temporomandibular joint balance,satisfaction and quality of life of patients, as well as reduce the risk of adverse events.

BACKGROUND: Upper limb lymphedema (ULL) is a common and deliberating complication for breast cancer survivors (BCSs). Breast cancer survivors with ULL reported a wide range of symptoms. However, little is known about symptom patterns and interrelationships among them. This study was designed to explore symptom clusters and construct symptom networks of ULL-related symptoms among BCSs and to identify the core symptoms. METHODS: This study is a secondary data analysis using datasets from three cross-sectional studies of BCSs in China. A total of 341 participants with maximum interlimb circumference ≥2 cm and complete responses in Part I of the Breast Cancer and Lymphedema Symptom Experience Index were included. Symptom clusters were identified through principal component analysis, and multiple linear regression analysis was employed to explore factors associated with severity of overall ULL-related symptoms. A contemporaneous network with 20 frequently reported symptoms were constructed after controlling for covariates. RESULTS: Three symptom clusters, including lymph stasis symptom cluster, nerve symptom cluster, and movement limitation symptom cluster, were identified. Postsurgery time, axillary lymph node dissection, and radiotherapy were associated with the severity of ULL-related symptoms. Tightness (rs = 1.379; rscov = 1.097), tingling (rs = 1.264; rscov = 0.925), and firmness (rs = 1.170; rscov = 0.923) were the most central symptoms in both networks with and without covariates. CONCLUSIONS: Breast cancer survivors with ULL experienced severe symptom burden. Tightness, tingling, and firmness were core symptoms of ULL among BCSs. Our findings demonstrated that the assessment and targeted intervention of specific core symptoms might help to relive effectively the burden of ULL-related symptom among BCSs.

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) was a chronic complication of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), and this comorbid disease lacked therapeutic drugs. Semen Ziziphi Spinosae (SZS) was the seed of Ziziphus jujuba var. Spinosa (Bunge) Hu ex H.F. Chow, and it could alleviate the symptoms of T2DM patients. As a triterpene saponin, Jujuboside A (Ju A) was the main active substance isolated from SZS and could improve hyperglycemia of diabetic mice. However, it was still unknown whether Ju A has protective effects on T2DM-associated NAFLD. Our study showed that Ju A attenuated T2DM-associated liver damage by alleviating hepatic lipid accumulation, inflammatory response, and oxidative stress in the liver of db/db mice, and high glucose (HG) and free fatty acid (FFA) co-stimulated human hepatocellular carcinomas (HepG2) cells. Along with the improved hyperglycemia and liver injury, Ju A restrained Yin Yang 1 (YY1)/cytochrome P450 2E1 (CYP2E1) signaling in vivo and in vitro. YY1 overexpression intercepted the protective effects of Ju A on T2DM-induced liver injury via promoting hepatic lipid accumulation, inflammatory response, and oxidative stress. While, the blocking effect of YY1 overexpression on Ju A's hepatoprotective effect was counteracted by further treatment of CYP2E1 specific inhibitor diethyldithiocarbamate (DDC) in vitro. In-depth mechanism research showed that Ju A through YY1/CYP2E1 signaling promoted hepatic fatty acid ß-oxidation, and inhibited inflammatory response and oxidative stress by activating peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor alpha (PPARα), leading to the improvement of T2DM-associated NAFLD. Ju A might be a potential agent in the treatment and health care of T2DM-associated liver disease, especially NAFLD.

Molecular processes are orchestrated by various proteins that promote early endosomes to become late endosomes and eventually fuse with lysosomes, guaranteeing the degradation of the content. Rab7, which is localized to late endosomes, is one of the most well-known GTPases. ORP1L is recruited by Rab7 to facilitate the fusion of late endosomes and lysosomes. Here, we present the structure of GDP-bound Rab7 Q67L with ORP1L. Structural analysis, supported by biochemical and ITC binding experiments, not only provides structural insight into the interactions between the ORP1L ANK domain and Rab7 but also suggests that the GTPase activity of Rab7 does not interfere with its ORP1L-binding capacity.

Fennel essential oil (FEO) a natural spice that has versatile biological activities. However, the direct use of FEO is limited due to its water insolubility and poor stability. Chilled pork is prone to spoilage during storage. To solve these problems, this study aimed to prepare an inclusion complex (IC) of FEO with hydroxypropyl-ß-cyclodextrin via co-precipitation and apply it to the preservation of chilled pork. Results indicated that the optimal parameters were encapsulating temperature 37 °C, wall-core ratio 14:1 g/mL, stirring speed 600 r/min, and encapsulating time 240 min, obtaining an encapsulation efficiency of 83.75%. The results of scanning electron microscopy, Fourier transform infra-red spectroscopy, and nuclear magnetic resonance demonstrated the successful preparation of IC. The release of FEO from IC was controllable through adjusting the different temperatures and relative humidities. Furthermore, IC effectively delayed the spoilage of chilled pork and extended its shelf life by 6 days at 4 °C.
