RESUMEN

Artemisinin, a sesquiterpene lactone from Artemisia annua L., has received considerable attention in the last few decades as a potent antimalarial drug. Artemisinin has rather low toxicity; it is effective against drug-resistant Plasmodium species and against cerebral malaria. This study reports the development of a rapid and sensitive assay for the quantification of artemisinin in A. annua by reversed phase HPLC/MS. In the selected optimal experimental conditions, artemisinin exhibited a well-defined chromatographic peak with a retention time of 2 ± 0.2 min. The chromatographic signal shows a linear dependence with artemisinin concentration, enabling the use of this signal for artemisinin quantification according to the following regression equation: y = 2665.40x - 14697.61. The correlation coefficient (R(2)) was 0.9989. For every concentration within the range of the standard curve (0.1-2 µg mL(-1)), accuracy was between 95 and 104%. Artemisinin content in Romanian A. annua wild plants varies between 0.17 and 0.21% (dry weight basis).

RESUMEN

UNLABELLED: In this paper we studied the stability of cefixime, a raw material used for pharmaceutical forms. MATERIAL AND METHOD: Quantitative analysis was made by using a UV spectrometric method. RESULTS: We established the cefixime content after exposing on different conditions of temperature and environment. The obtained results demonstrated that cefixime is stable at environmental temperature and degrades fast and strong in aggressive environments.

RESUMEN

UNLABELLED: In this paper we followed up the stability of ceftazidime, raw material used in drug industry. Matherials and methods: We used three spectrophotometric methods based on ceftazidime property to form complexes with p-chloranilic acid (ac. p-CA), 3-methylbenzothiazolin-2-on hydrazone (MBTH) and N-(1-naphtil) etilendiamine (NEDA) and a chromatographic method (HPLC). RESULTS: Our results revealed that the substances analyzed maintained minimum content allowable.

RESUMEN

The antimicrobial activities of ethanol, methanol and hexane extracts from Artemisia absinthium, Artemisia annua and Artemisia vulgaris were studied. Plant extracts were tested against five Gram-positive bacteria, two Gram-negative bacteria and one fungal strain. The results indicated that Artemisia annua alcoholic extracts are more effective against tested microorganisms. However, all plants extracts have moderate or no activity against Gram-negative bacteria. The obtained results confirm the justification of extracts of Artemisia species use in traditional medicine as treatment for microbial infections.

RESUMEN

The discovery and development of substances require new forms at a level which was considered satisfactory a few years ago. The research on secondary effects and drugs optimizations to new pharmaceutical forms. So, we can speak about the inclusion complexes. The purpose of the paper was to describe the cyclodextrins properties, the complexation process and the most important analysis methods for complexes between cyclodextrins and drugs.

RESUMEN

A personal formulation of an ointment with antivaricose properties is presented. A methodology for the physicochemical and rheologic control, including all parameters required by the standards for ointments quality control, was designed. The analyses showed that the ointment is stable in time, has a thixotropic consistency and behaviour and does not require special preservation conditions.
