RESUMEN

Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (GDM) is a common endocrine condition associated with adverse pregnancy outcomes. In recent years, a growing number of risk factors associated with gestational diabetes mellitus have been defined. GDM poses a serious threat to maternal health. The etiology is complex and multifactorial and can be divided into inherent and modifiable factors. The inherent factors have been described in other literature, while the modifiable factors are mainly the risk of lifestyle habits. In this study, we performed a narrative review of the progress of risk factors associated with gestational diabetes mellitus.

RESUMEN

Ferroptosis is an iron-dependent death mode mediated by the aggregation of lipid peroxides and lipid-reactive oxygen species. It is characterized by iron-dependent lipid peroxide accumulation accompanied by oxidoreductase deficiency. Pancreatic beta cell dysfunction and insulin resistance are two major causes of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Iron accumulation and metabolism may play a role in the development of T2DM. The molecular mechanism of ß cell apoptosis and iron death in T2DM were reviewed. In addition, we discuss recent insights on the relationship between the trace element iron and apoptosis of ß cells in T2DM.

RESUMEN

Schwannomas are benign slow-growing tumors arising from the embryonic neural crest cells of the nerve sheaths of peripheral and cranial nerves, and they are a rare type of soft tissue mass that is usually always solitary. Generally, it grows in the head, neck, and flexor portions of the limbs, where many nerves are located. Schwannomas of the lung are extremely rare. Fewer than ten cases of schwannomas in this organ region have been reported in the existing literature. In this case report, a 40-year-old male non-smoker was hospitalized with occasional chest pain. His chest computed tomographic scan revealed a 3.8 cm space occupying lesion in the upper lobe of the right lung. This lesion has clear boundaries and uneven internal density. And it was concluded as a benign lesion possibility, it is preferred to be considered as a haematoma. This space occupying lesion was eventually confirmed as a schwannoma by needle biopsy tissues. Due to the presence in rare locations, such as the lung, the clinical presentation of this space occupying lesion is non-specific, making diagnosis difficult. The data presented in this case report can help clinicians to obtain information on the identification of this disease, which highlighted lung schwannoma as a differential diagnosis for patients with intermittent pain. It can also alert clinicians and radiologists to observe every detail of the radiology imaging findings.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Lipid metabolism is a complex process that includes lipid uptake, transport, synthesis, and degradation. Trace elements are vital in maintaining normal lipid metabolism in the human body. This study explores the relationship between serum trace elements and lipid metabolism Methods: In this study, we reviewed articles on the relationship between alterations in somatic levels of zinc, iron, calcium, copper, chrome, manganese, selenium, and lipid metabolism. In this systematic review and mate-analysis, databases such as PubMed, Web of Science, and China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), Wanfang was searched for articles on the relationship published between January 1, 1900, and July 12, 2022. The meta-analysis was performed using Review Manager5.3 (Cochrane Collaboration). RESULTS: No significant association was found between serum zinc and dyslipidemia, while other serum trace elements (Iron, selenium, copper, chromium, and manganese) were associated with hyperlipidemia. CONCLUSION: The present study suggested that the human body's zinc, copper, and calcium content may be related to lipid metabolism. However, findings on lipid metabolism and Iron, Manganese have not been conclusive. In addition, the relationship between lipid metabolism disorders and selenium levels still needs to be further studied. Further research is needed on treating lipid metabolism diseases by changing trace elements.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: Midwifery services are a cornerstone of maternal care but the trait creativity of midwifery students is unclear. The aim of this study was to assess trait creativity among midwives in Taizhou, China. METHODS: A cross-sectional online survey among midwives was conducted from July 20 to August 10, 2022. Trait creativity was assessed using the Williams Creativity Assessment Packet. RESULTS: A total of 300 survey respondents were studied. The mean scores for the imagination dimension (p=0.032) and the risk-taking dimension (p=0.049) differed across major groups. We further compared the scores of trait creativity dimensions after excluding male participants. Midwifery students only scored lower on the specific imagination dimension (p=0.024). CONCLUSION: The imagination level of midwifery students certainly deserves further attention. Education workers should pay more attention to the imagination of midwifery students.

RESUMEN

Ferroptosis is a novel form of regulated cell death typically characterized by non-apoptotic, iron-dependent, and reactive accumulation of oxygen species. Recent studies have found that ferroptosis plays an important role in the pathophysiology of pre-eclampsia (PE). In order to find potential therapeutic targets for ferroptosis intervention and better prevent the occurrence and progression of PE, the signalling pathways that regulate ferroptosis need to be identified. In this article, we review the role of vitamin D in PE and the role of ferroptosis in PE. Based on recent literature, we propose the scientific hypothesis that vitamin D can alleviate preeclampsia by modulating the ferroptosis signalling pathway. The aim of this review is to understand the regulatory pathways of ferroptosis in PE and to identify potential therapeutic targets.

RESUMEN

In an attempt to search for new natural product-based antitumor agents, a series of novel thiazolidinone derivatives of dehydroabietic acid-based B ring-fused-thiazole were designed and synthesized. The primary antitumor tests showed that compounds 5 m exhibited almost the best inhibitory activity against the tested cancer cells. The computational study suggested NOTCH1, IGF1R, TLR4, and KDR were the core targets of the title compounds, and the IC50 of SCC9 and Cal27 is strong correlation with the binding ability of TLR4 and compounds.

RESUMEN

Obesity is widely recognized as a major global health problem caused by a chronic energy imbalance resulting from a combination of excess caloric intake and insufficient energy expenditure. Excessive energy intake and physical inactivity are traditional risk factors for obesity. Obesity is a risk factor for many diseases, including hypertension, diabetes and tumours. Recent studies have found a strong link between ferroptosis and obesity. Ferroptosis is an iron-dependent regulated cell death caused by iron overload and reactive oxygen species-dependent excessive accumulation of lipid peroxidation. Ferroptosis is involved in many biological processes, such as amino acid metabolism, iron metabolism and lipid metabolism. Some potential strategies to reduce the adverse effects of ferroptosis on obesity are suggested and future research priorities are highlighted.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Previous studies have shown that personality affects creativity, and physical activity and is associated with cognitive function. However, the relationship among physical activity, creativity, and personality remains unclear. This study sought to examine the relationship among personality, physical activity, and creativity to identify relevant risk factors of trait creativity. Structural equation modeling (SEM) was used to assess the effect of personality (extraversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, neuroticism, and openness) on physical activity, the effect of physical activity on creativity traits. METHODS: A total of 296 university students were recruited for this study. The survey was administered by WeChat. The self-reported questionnaires included questions related to demographic information, creativity (from the Williams Creativity Assessment Packet), the Big Five personality traits, and physical activity. A correlation analysis was conducted and the structural equation models were constructed using SPSSAU. RESULTS: The SEM analysis showed that openness in personality was positively correlated with physical activity. Physical activity was negatively correlated with curiosity, challenging, risk-taking, and imagination. CONCLUSIONS: Among university students, openness may be a profound positive factor affecting physical activity. Moreover, physical activity was also associated with trait creativity. Consideration should be given to assessing personality traits and physical activity to ensure the selection of more creative students.

RESUMEN

Context: China is a country in which frequent natural disasters occur, but there is a lack of disaster education in Chinese institutions of higher education. Nursing students should receive disaster and emergency training in addition to their professional medical training. Objective: Our study aimed to investigate the current situation and disaster knowledge and training needs of nursing students and to increase the disaster first aid knowledge of college nursing students. Design: This was a cross-sectional study. Setting: The study took place at Taizhou University in Taizhou, Zhejiang, China. Participants: Participants were 443 full-time undergraduate nursing students at Taizhou University in China. Outcome Measures: This cross-sectional survey included a general questionnaire and an undergraduate nursing student disaster nursing ability questionnaire. Results: The survey results were from the first to the third year of study. Students were age 20 to 23 years, with an average age of 20.57±1.85 years. The largest group (35.44%) was made up of juniors. The scores of 3 dimensions of this survey were: dimension of physical and mental quality dimension (3.76 ± 0.71), theoretical system dimension (3.00 ± 0.57) and practical competencies dimension (2.89 ± 0.68). The ability to adapt to rescue needs at the disaster site and whether or not the student had heard of the term "disaster nursing" is the dominant factor affecting the disaster nursing skills of undergraduate nursing students. Conclusions: The disaster relief of male undergraduate nursing student seniors is more positive and their physical and mental quality is better than female nursing students, but knowledge of disaster prevention and practical capability in disaster relief remain weak and there is a lack of a corresponding theoretical system and competence in practical knowledge and skills. It is recommended that systematic disaster nursing education at universities be improved. Knowledge of disaster rescue should be taught systematically to improve awareness of disaster procedures and response and improve the level of practical skills in disaster rescue. We should learn from the educational approach and models of disaster nursing training in developed countries in order to establish a disaster nursing education model in China.

RESUMEN

Diabetes mellitus is a common global public health problem that can cause serious illness and premature death. Diabetic foot ulcer, one of the complications of diabetes, is a major cause of morbidity and mortality and is associated with many other devastating complications. Previous study found that a group of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) can be used for treating diabetic foot ulcers. More and more attention is being paid to the use of Chinese medicine to heal diabetic feet. Under the guidance of relevant theories of traditional Chinese medicine, more studies are needed to reveal the key active components and related signal pathways of TCM in the treatment of diabetic foot ulcer. One clinical study explored the treatment of diabetic foot with infection combined moist exposed burn ointment with Jinhuang powder. However, large-scale multi-center, double blind, randomized, placebo-controlled clinical trials and animal studies are necessary to establish the effectiveness of Jinhuang powder in the treatment of diabetic foot.

RESUMEN

Context: Undergraduate, professional education in midwifery is essential. Teaching professional knowledge while guiding students to develop positive career values is one of the tasks of midwifery educators. Studies in China have shown that the stronger the ego-identity of students, the stronger their professional identities will be. Objective: The study intended to investigate the occupational self-efficacy and ego-identity of midwifery students, to analyze the correlation between the two characteristics, and to explore the factors influencing their occupational self-efficacy. Design: The research team designed a cross-sectional survey. Setting: The study took place at Taizhou University in Taizhou, Zhejiang, China. Participants: Participants were 232 full-time, undergraduate, midwifery students at the university. Selection of participants occurred between November 2018 and December 2018. Outcome Measures: The cross-sectional survey included a demographic questionnaire, a career self-efficacy questionnaire, and a ego-identity status.. Results: For the students: (1) the mean career self-efficacy of the midwifery students was 3.34 ± 0.58, at a moderate level; (2) the mean overall ego-identity score was 47.44 ± 5.92; 189 (81.47%) of students were those who hadn't yet formed a ego-identity (identity-diffusion status). The multiple gradual regression showed that present self-engagement; per-capita, monthly household income; and midwifery as the first choice of major were the main factors affecting the self-efficacy of midwifery students. Conclusions: The occupational self-efficacy and ego-identity of midwifery students urgently need improvement, and ego-identity has a predictive value for occupational self-efficacy.

RESUMEN

Purpose: To explore the value of intravoxel incoherent motion diffusion-weighted imaging (IVIM-DWI) and texture analysis on T2-weighted imaging (T2WI) for evaluating pathological differentiation of cervical squamous cell carcinoma. Method: This retrospective study included a total of 138 patients with pathologically confirmed poor/moderate/well-differentiated (71/49/18) who underwent conventional MRI and IVIM-DWI scans. The values of ADC, D, D ∗ , and f and 58 T2WI-based texture features (18 histogram features, 24 gray-level co-occurrence matrix features, and 16 gray-level run length matrix features) were obtained. Multiple comparison, correlation, and regression analyses were used. Results: For IVIM-DWI, the ADC, D, D ∗ , and f were significantly different among the three groups (p < 0.05). ADC, D, and D ∗ were positively correlated with pathological differentiation (r = 0.262, 0.401, 0.401; p < 0.05), while the correlation was negative for f (r = -0.221; p < 0.05). The comparison of 52 parameters of texture analysis on T2WI reached statistically significant levels (p < 0.05). Multivariate logistic regression analysis incorporated significant IVIM-DWI, and texture features on T2WI showed good diagnostic performance both in the four differentiation groups (poorly vs. moderately, area under the curve(AUC) = 0.797; moderately vs. well, AUC = 0.954; poorly vs. moderately and well, AUC = 0.795; and well vs. moderately and poorly, AUC = 0.952). The AUCs of each parameters alone were smaller than that of each regression model (0.503∼0.684, 0.547∼0.805, 0.511∼0.712, and 0.636∼0.792, respectively; pairwise comparison of ROC curves between regression model and individual variables, p < 0.05). Conclusions: IVIM-DWI biomarkers and T2WI-based texture features had potential to evaluate the pathological differentiation of cervical squamous cell carcinoma. The combination of IVIM-DWI with texture analysis improved the predictive performance.

RESUMEN

Genomic epidemiology is important to study the COVID-19 pandemic, and more than two million severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) genomic sequences were deposited into public databases. However, the exponential increase of sequences invokes unprecedented bioinformatic challenges. Here, we present the Coronavirus GenBrowser (CGB) based on a highly efficient analysis framework and a node-picking rendering strategy. In total, 1,002,739 high-quality genomic sequences with the transmission-related metadata were analyzed and visualized. The size of the core data file is only 12.20 MB, highly efficient for clean data sharing. Quick visualization modules and rich interactive operations are provided to explore the annotated SARS-CoV-2 evolutionary tree. CGB binary nomenclature is proposed to name each internal lineage. The pre-analyzed data can be filtered out according to the user-defined criteria to explore the transmission of SARS-CoV-2. Different evolutionary analyses can also be easily performed, such as the detection of accelerated evolution and ongoing positive selection. Moreover, the 75 genomic spots conserved in SARS-CoV-2 but non-conserved in other coronaviruses were identified, which may indicate the functional elements specifically important for SARS-CoV-2. The CGB was written in Java and JavaScript. It not only enables users who have no programming skills to analyze millions of genomic sequences, but also offers a panoramic vision of the transmission and evolution of SARS-CoV-2.

RESUMEN

A novel strategy for microRNAs (miRNAs) detection has been developed utilizing duplex-specific nuclease-assisted signal amplification (DSNSA) and guanine-rich DNA-enhanced fluorescence of DNA-templated silver nanoclusters (AgNCs). The combination between target miRNA, DSNSA, and AgNCs is achieved by the unique design of DNA sequences. Target miRNA opens the hairpin structure of the Hairpin DNA probe (HP) by hybridizing with the HP and initiates the duplex-specific nuclease-assisted signal amplification (DSNSA) reaction. The DSNSA reaction generates the release of the guanine-rich DNA sequence, which can turn on the fluorescence of the dark AgNCs by hybridizing with the DNA template of the dark AgNCs. The fluorescence intensity of AgNCs corresponds to the dosage of the target miRNA. This is measured at 630 nm by exciting at 560 nm. The constructed method exhibits a low detection limit (~8.3 fmol), a great dynamic range of more than three orders of magnitude, and excellent selectivity. Moreover, it has a good performance for miR-21 detection in complex biological samples. A novel strategy for microRNAs (miRNAs) detection has been developed utilizing duplex-specific nuclease-assisted signal amplification (DSNSA) and guanine-rich DNA-enhanced fluorescence of DNA-templated silver nanoclusters (AgNCs).

RESUMEN

In an attempt to search for new natural product-based antitumor agents, a series of novel (aryl)methyl-amine derivatives of dehydroabietic acid-based B ring-fused-thiazole were designed and synthesized. The primary bioassay showed that compounds 5r and 5s presented certain inhibitory activity against cancer cells, weak cytotoxic activity against normal cells, and inhibitory activity against PI3K/AKT/mTOR signaling pathway. The binding modes and the binding site interactions between the active compounds and the target proteins were predicted preliminarily by the molecular docking method.

RESUMEN

Since the first reported severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection in December 2019, coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has become a global pandemic, spreading to more than 200 countries and regions worldwide. With continued research progress and virus detection, SARS-CoV-2 genomes and sequencing data have been reported and accumulated at an unprecedented rate. To meet the need for fast analysis of these genome sequences, the National Genomics Data Center (NGDC) of the China National Center for Bioinformation (CNCB) has established an online coronavirus analysis platform, which includes de novoassembly, BLAST alignment, genome annotation, variant identification, and variant annotation modules. The online analysis platform can be freely accessed at the 2019 Novel Coronavirus Resource (2019nCoVR) (https://bigd.big.ac.cn/ncov/online/tools).
