Background: To date, a large number of studies have shown correlations between environmental variables and pediatric asthma in short-term lag time. However, their results are inconsistent. Therefore, we aimed to evaluate the short-term impact of environmental variables on daily pediatric asthma patients' visits (DPAPV) in Hangzhou, China, and find the most important risk factor. Methods: Generalized additive distribution lag non-linear model (GAM-DLNM) was applied to explore the effect of environmental variables on DPAPV in single- and multi-variable models in Hangzhou, China from 2014 to 2021. Then, risk factors of pediatric asthma were selected (p < 0.05 both in single- and multi-variable models) and used weighted quantile sum (WQS) regression model to evaluate their relative importance. Results: There were 313,296 pediatric asthma patient records between 2014 and 2021. Both in single- and multi-variable models, PM2.5, PM10, and NO2 exhibited significant positive correlations in short-term lag time and these correlations reached their maximum in lag day 2 (RR = 1.00, 95%CI:1.00 to 1.01), lag day 2 (RR = 1.00, 95%CI:1.00 to 1.01), and lag day 3 (RR = 1.04, 95%CI:1.02 to1.05), respectively. The WQS index showed that NO2 had the greatest relative importance (weight over 70 %). The relative importance of NO2 increased with time passing. Males were more susceptible to the adverse effects of NO2. Conclusion: PM2.5, PM10, and NO2 had significant adverse effects on pediatric asthma. Among them, NO2 presented the greatest and most important adverse effect on the disease. Therefore, parents could give priority to paying attention to NO2 to control children's asthma.

Large language models (LLMs) hold significant promise in clinical practice, yet their real-world adoption is constrained by their propensity to produce erroneous and occasionally harmful outputs, particularly in the intricate domain of rare diseases (RDs). This study introduces RDguru, a conversational intelligent agent leveraging the LangChain framework and powered by GPT-3.5-turbo. RDguru offers a comprehensive suite of functionalities, encompassing evidence-traceable knowledge Q&A and professional medical consultations for differential diagnosis (DDX), integrating authoritative knowledge sources and reliable tools. A novel multi-source fusion diagnostic model, rooted in deep Q-network, amalgamates three diagnostic recommendation strategies (GPT-4, PheLR, and phenotype matching) to enhance diagnostic recall during medical consultations. Through tailored tools and advanced algorithms for retrieval-augmented generation, RDguru excels in knowledge Q&A, automated phenotype annotation, and RD DDX. A multi-aspect Q&A analysis demonstrates RDguru outperforms ChatGPT in generating descriptions aligned with authoritative knowledge, quantified by ROUGE scores, GPT-4-based automatic rating, and RAGAs evaluation metrics. Testing on 238 published RD cases reveals that RDguru's top 5 multi-source fusion diagnoses recapture 63.87% of actual diagnoses, marking a 5.47% improvement over the state-of-the-art diagnostic method PheLR. Furthermore, RDguru's consultation strategy proves effective in eliciting diagnostically beneficial phenotypes and refining the prioritization of genuine diagnoses through multi-round phenotype-orient questioning. Evaluations against established benchmarks and real-world patient data demonstrate RDguru's efficacy and reliability, highlighting its potential to enhance clinical decision-making in the realm of RDs.

BACKGROUND: Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a major cause of neurological disability, and current treatments have limited effectiveness. Recent studies have emphasized the potential of exosomes derived from umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells (UC-MSCs-Exo) in TBI treatment, but the molecular mechanisms underlying their therapeutic effects are not fully understood. METHODS AND RESULTS: In this study, UC-MSCs-Exo was isolated using ultracentrifugation and intraventricularly injected to TBI rat model. The neurofunctional motor function of the rats was evaluated using the modified neurological severity score (mNSS), and the activation of microglia was assessed through immunofluorescence detection of IBA1 expression levels. Additionally, we established an in vitro neuroinflammatory model using BV2 microglia to investigate the effects of UC-MSCs-Exo and miRNA-21. Our findings indicate that UC-MSCs-Exo promote neurological recovery in TBI rats and inhibit excessive microglia activation. Furthermore, UC-MSCs-Exo highly expresses miRNA-21 and inhibited the proliferation, migration, and release of inflammatory mediators of BV2 microglia by transporting miRNA-21. CONCLUSIONS: The present study suggests that the promotion of neurological recovery in TBI rats by UC-MSCs-Exo may be attributed to the inhibition of excessive microglia activation through miRNA-21.

PURPOSE: The objective of this study was to provide a comprehensive review of the existing literature regarding the treatment of osteochondral lesions of the talus (OLT) using autologous matrix-induced chondrogenesis (AMIC), while also discussing the mid-long term functional outcomes, complications, and surgical failure rate. METHODS: We searched Embase, PubMed, and Web of Science for studies on OLT treated with AMIC with an average follow-up of at least 2 years. Publication information, patient data, functional scores, surgical failure rate, and complications were extracted. RESULTS: A total of 15 studies were screened and included, with 12 case series selected for meta-analysis and 3 non-randomized controlled studies chosen for descriptive analysis. The improvements in the Visual Analog Scale (VAS), the American Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society (AOFAS) ankle-hindfoot, and Tegner scores at the last follow-up were (SMD = - 2.825, 95% CI - 3.343 to - 2.306, P < 0.001), (SMD = 2.73, 95% CI 1.60 to 3.86, P < 0.001), (SMD = 0.85, 95% CI 0.5 to 1.2, P < 0.001) respectively compared to preoperative values. The surgery failure rate was 11% (95% CI 8-15%), with a total of 12 patients experiencing complications. CONCLUSION: The use of AMIC demonstrates a positive impact on pain management, functional improvement, and mobility enhancement in patients with OLT. It is worth noting that the choice of stent for AMIC, patient age, and OLT size can influence the ultimate clinical outcomes. This study provides evidences supporting the safety and efficacy of AMIC as a viable treatment option in real-world medical practice.

Micro-arc oxidation (MAO) is a promising technology for enhancing the wear resistance of engine cylinders by growing a high hardness alumina ceramic film on the surface of light aluminum engine cylinders. However, the positive and negative pulse coordination, voltage characteristic signal, hardness distribution characteristics of the ceramic film, and their internal mechanism during the growth process are still unclear. This paper investigates the synergistic effect mechanism of cathodic and anodic current on the growth behaviour of alumina, dynamic voltage signal, and hardness distribution of micro-arc oxidation film. Ceramic film samples were fabricated under various conditions, including current densities of 10, 12, 14, and 16 A/dm2, and current density ratios of cathode and anode of 1.1, 1.2, and 1.3, respectively. Based on the observed characteristics of the process voltage curve and the spark signal changes, the growth of the ceramic film can be divided into five stages. The influence of positive and negative current density parameters on the segmented growth process of the ceramic film is mainly reflected in the transition time, voltage variation rate, and the voltage value of different growth stages. Enhancing the cathode pulse effect or increasing the current density level can effectively shorten the transition time and accelerate the voltage drop rate. The microhardness of the ceramic film cross-section presents a discontinuous soft-hard-soft regional distribution. Multiple thermal cycles lead to a gradient differentiation of the Al2O3 crystal phase transition ratio along the thickness direction of the layer. The layer grown on the outer surface of the initial substrate exhibits the highest hardness, with a small gradient change in hardness, forming a high hardness zone approximately 20-30 µm wide. This high hardness zone extends to both sides, with hardness decreasing rapidly.

Electromagnetic wire is the carrier of energy and signal transmission. With the rapid development in aerospace, atomic energy, and other industrial fields, there is an increasing demand for the high-temperature-resistance of electromagnetic wires. In using traditional electromagnetic wires, it is difficult to meet the current temperature-resistance requirements. Therefore, the development of high-temperature-resistant electromagnetic wire has extremely important application value. In this paper, high-temperature-resistant electromagnetic wires are divided into organic insulated high-temperature-resistant electromagnetic wires, organic-inorganic insulated composite high-temperature-resistant electromagnetic wires, and inorganic insulated high-temperature-resistant electromagnetic wires. The method of improving the temperature-resistance level of organic insulated high-temperature-resistant electromagnetic wire is introduced. The selection principle of organic-inorganic and inorganic insulation high-temperature-resistant electromagnetic-wire conductor materials is analyzed. The current research status of organic-inorganic and inorganic insulated high-temperature-resistant electromagnetic wires is reviewed. The technical routes for preparing inorganic insulated high-temperature-resistant electromagnetic wire are compared. Finally, the challenges faced by the current high-temperature-resistant electromagnetic wire are pointed out, and the future development direction of organic-inorganic-composite insulation and inorganic insulation high-temperature-resistant electromagnetic wire is proposed.

OBJECTIVE: Compare the effectiveness of multiple mitigation measures designed to protect nursing home residents from infectious disease outbreaks. DESIGN: Agent-based simulation study. SETTING: Simulation environment of a small nursing home. METHODS: We collected temporally detailed and spatially fine-grained location information from nursing home healthcare workers (HCWs) using sensor motes. We used these data to power an agent-based simulation of a COVID-19 outbreak using realistic time-varying estimates of infectivity and diagnostic sensitivity. Under varying community prevalence and transmissibility, we compared the mitigating effects of (i) regular screening and isolation, (ii) inter-resident contact restrictions, (iii) reduced HCW presenteeism, and (iv) modified HCW scheduling. RESULTS: Across all configurations tested, screening every other day and isolating positive cases decreased the attack rate by an average of 27% to 0.501 on average, while contact restrictions decreased the attack rate by an average of 35%, resulting in an attack rate of only 0.240, approximately half that of screening/isolation. Combining both interventions impressively produced an attack rate of only 0.029. Halving the observed presenteeism rate led to an 18% decrease in the attack rate, but if combined with screening every 6 days, the effect of reducing presenteeism was negligible. Altering work schedules had negligible effects on the attack rate. CONCLUSIONS: Universal contact restrictions are highly effective for protecting vulnerable nursing home residents, yet adversely affect physical and mental health. In high transmission and/or high community prevalence situations, restricting inter-resident contact to groups of 4 was effective and made highly effective when paired with weekly testing.

Objective: To provide a comprehensive overview of the surgical treatments of osteochondral lesion of talus (OLT) and offer valuable insights for clinical practice. Methods: The advantages and limitations of surgical treatments for OLT were comprehensively summarized through an extensive review of domestic and abroad relevant literature in recent years. Results: Currently, there exist numerous surgical treatments for the OLT, all of which can yield favorable outcomes. However, each method possesses its own set of merits and demerits. The short-term effectiveness of bone marrow stimulation in treating primary OLT with a diameter less than 15 mm is evident, but its long-term effectiveness diminishes over time. Autologous osteochondral transplantation (AOT) and osteochondral allograft transplantation (OAT) are suitable for OLT with large defects and subchondral bone cysts. However, incomplete anatomical matching between the donor and recipient bones may results in the formation of new subchondral bone cysts, while AOT also presents potential complications at the donor site. In contrast to AOT and OAT, particulated juvenile cartilage allograft transplantation obviates the need for additional osteotomy. Furthermore, juvenile cartilage exhibits enhanced potential in delivering active chondrocytes to the site of cartilage defect, surpassing that of adult cartilage in tissue repair efficacy. Cell transplantation has demonstrated satisfactory effectiveness; however, it is associated with challenges such as the requirement for secondary surgery and high costs. Autologous matrix-induced chondrogenesis technology has shown promising effectiveness in the treatment of primary and non-primary OLT and OLT with large defect and subchondral bone cysts. However, there is a scarcity of relevant studies, most of which exhibit low quality. Adjuvant therapy utilizing biological agents represents a novel approach to treating OLT; nevertheless, due to insufficient support from high-quality studies, it has not exhibited significant advantages over traditional treatment methods. Furthermore, its long-term effectiveness remain unclear. Conclusion: The optimal choice of surgical treatment for OLT is contingent not only upon the characteristics such as nature, size, and shape but also takes into consideration factors like advancements in medical technology, patient acceptance, economic status, and other pertinent aspects to deliver personalized treatment.

PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to present our initial experience and prove the feasibility of total intracorporeal laparoscopic ileal ureter replacement (TILIUR) in a single position for ureteral stricture based on membrane anatomy. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Between January 2021 and April 2023, six patients underwent TILIUR in a single position for ureteral strictures based on membrane anatomy. All patients with a past medical history underwent radical hysterectomy with bilateral pelvic lymph node dissection as well as extensive ureteral stricture due to radiotherapy. The procedure is performed completely laparoscopically. Dissection of the digestive system as well as ureteral stricture or renal pelvis is based on membrane anatomy. The surgery is performed in a single position. RESULTS: TILIUR in a single position for ureteral stricture based on membrane anatomy was successfully performed without open conversion in all patients. Among the 6 patients, 3 patients underwent combined ileal ureter replacement (IUR) and abdominal wall ostomy, 2 underwent unilateral IUR, and 1 underwent bilateral IUR. The mean length of the ileal substitution was 22.83 cm (range: 15-28). The average operative time was 458 ± 72.77 min (range 385-575 min), and the average intraoperative blood loss was 158 mL (range 50-400 mL). The median postoperative hospital stay was 15.1 d (range: 8-32). The median duration of postoperative follow-up was 15 months (range: 3-29 months). The success rate was 100%. CONCLUSIONS: TILIUR in a single position may be a promising option for ureteral stricture based on membrane anatomy in selected patients. Moreover, it has a positive effect on patients with renal insufficiency and urinary incontinence. Although IUR is difficult and risky, proficient surgeons can perform the procedure safely and effectively.

BACKGROUND: Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) tends to have mild presentations in children. However, severe and critical cases do arise in the pediatric population with debilitating systemic impacts and can be fatal at times, meriting further attention from clinicians. Meanwhile, the intricate interactions between the pathogen virulence factors and host defense mechanisms are believed to play indispensable roles in severe COVID-19 pathophysiology but remain incompletely understood. DATA SOURCES: A comprehensive literature review was conducted for pertinent publications by reviewers independently using the PubMed, Embase, and Wanfang databases. Searched keywords included "COVID-19 in children", "severe pediatric COVID-19", and "critical illness in children with COVID-19". RESULTS: Risks of developing severe COVID-19 in children escalate with increasing numbers of co-morbidities and an unvaccinated status. Acute respiratory distress stress and necrotizing pneumonia are prominent pulmonary manifestations, while various forms of cardiovascular and neurological involvement may also be seen. Multiple immunological processes are implicated in the host response to COVID-19 including the type I interferon and inflammasome pathways, whose dysregulation in severe and critical diseases translates into adverse clinical manifestations. Multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C), a potentially life-threatening immune-mediated condition chronologically associated with COVID-19 exposure, denotes another scientific and clinical conundrum that exemplifies the complexity of pediatric immunity. Despite the considerable dissimilarities between the pediatric and adult immune systems, clinical trials dedicated to children are lacking and current management recommendations are largely adapted from adult guidelines. CONCLUSIONS: Severe pediatric COVID-19 can affect multiple organ systems. The dysregulated immune pathways in severe COVID-19 shape the disease course, epitomize the vast functional diversity of the pediatric immune system and highlight the immunophenotypical differences between children and adults. Consequently, further research may be warranted to adequately address them in pediatric-specific clinical practice guidelines.

Background: Although evidence-based medicine proposes personalized care that considers the best evidence, it still fails to address personal treatment in many real clinical scenarios where the complexity of the situation makes none of the available evidence applicable. "Medicine-based evidence" (MBE), in which big data and machine learning techniques are embraced to derive treatment responses from appropriately matched patients in real-world clinical practice, was proposed. However, many challenges remain in translating this conceptual framework into practice. Objective: This study aimed to technically translate the MBE conceptual framework into practice and evaluate its performance in providing general decision support services for outcomes after congenital heart disease (CHD) surgery. Methods: Data from 4774 CHD surgeries were collected. A total of 66 indicators and all diagnoses were extracted from each echocardiographic report using natural language processing technology. Combined with some basic clinical and surgical information, the distances between each patient were measured by a series of calculation formulas. Inspired by structure-mapping theory, the fusion of distances between different dimensions can be modulated by clinical experts. In addition to supporting direct analogical reasoning, a machine learning model can be constructed based on similar patients to provide personalized prediction. A user-operable patient similarity network (PSN) of CHD called CHDmap was proposed and developed to provide general decision support services based on the MBE approach. Results: Using 256 CHD cases, CHDmap was evaluated on 2 different types of postoperative prognostic prediction tasks: a binary classification task to predict postoperative complications and a multiple classification task to predict mechanical ventilation duration. A simple poll of the k-most similar patients provided by the PSN can achieve better prediction results than the average performance of 3 clinicians. Constructing logistic regression models for prediction using similar patients obtained from the PSN can further improve the performance of the 2 tasks (best area under the receiver operating characteristic curve=0.810 and 0.926, respectively). With the support of CHDmap, clinicians substantially improved their predictive capabilities. Conclusions: Without individual optimization, CHDmap demonstrates competitive performance compared to clinical experts. In addition, CHDmap has the advantage of enabling clinicians to use their superior cognitive abilities in conjunction with it to make decisions that are sometimes even superior to those made using artificial intelligence models. The MBE approach can be embraced in clinical practice, and its full potential can be realized.

Partial endothelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EndMT) is an intermediate phenotype observed in endothelial cells (ECs) undergoing a transition toward a mesenchymal state to support neovascularization during (patho)physiological angiogenesis. Here, we investigated the occurrence of partial EndMT in ECs under hypoxic/ischemic conditions and identified general transcription factor IIH subunit 4 (GTF2H4) as a positive regulator of this process. In addition, we discovered that GTF2H4 collaborates with its target protein excision repair cross-complementation group 3 (ERCC3) to co-regulate partial EndMT. Furthermore, by using phosphorylation proteomics and site-directed mutagenesis, we demonstrated that GTF2H4 was involved in the phosphorylation of receptor coactivator 3 (NCOA3) at serine 1330, which promoted the interaction between NCOA3 and p65, resulting in the transcriptional activation of NF-κB and the NF-κB/Snail signaling axis during partial EndMT. In vivo experiments confirmed that GTF2H4 significantly promoted partial EndMT and angiogenesis after ischemic injury. Collectively, our findings reveal that targeting GTF2H4 is promising for tissue repair and offers potential opportunities for treating hypoxic/ischemic diseases.

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE: This study aims to create a pediatric head injury database based on cranial CT examinations and explore their epidemiologic characteristics. METHODS: Data related to cranial CT examinations of pediatric head injuries from March 2014 to March 2021 were collected at outpatient and emergency department of a pediatric medical center. The causes of injury, observable post-injury symptoms, and cranial injury findings were extracted with the assistance of natural language processing techniques. RESULTS: Reviewing the data from records on 52,821 children with head injuries over a period of 7 years, the most common causes of pediatric head injury were falls (58.3%), traffic accidents (26.0%), smash/crush/strike (13.9%), violence (1.5%) and sports-related incidents (0.3%). Overall, most of those injured were boys which accounting for 62.2% of all cases. Skull fractures most commonly occur in the parietal bone (9.0%), followed by the occipital (5.2%), frontal (3.3%) and temporal bones (3.0%). Most intracranial hemorrhages occurred in epidural (5.8%), followed by subdural (5.1%), subarachnoid (0.9%), intraparenchymal (0.5%) and intraventricular (0.2%) hemorrhages. Spring and autumn showed more events than any other season. CONCLUSIONS: To the best of our knowledge, this is the largest sample of epidemiological study of head injury in the Chinese pediatric population to date.

BACKGROUND: Clinicians often lack the necessary expertise to differentially diagnose multiple underlying rare diseases (RDs) due to their complex and overlapping clinical features, leading to misdiagnoses and delayed treatments. The aim of this study is to develop a novel electronic differential diagnostic support system for RDs. METHOD: Through integrating two Bayesian diagnostic methods, a candidate list was generated with enhance clinical interpretability for the further Q&A based differential diagnosis (DDX). To achieve an efficient Q&A dialogue strategy, we introduce a novel metric named the adaptive information gain and Gini index (AIGGI) to evaluate the expected gain of interrogated phenotypes within real-time diagnostic states. RESULTS: This DDX tool called RDmaster has been implemented as a web-based platform (http://rdmaster.nbscn.org/). A diagnostic trial involving 238 published RD patients revealed that RDmaster outperformed existing RD diagnostic tools, as well as ChatGPT, and was shown to enhance the diagnostic accuracy through its Q&A system. CONCLUSIONS: The RDmaster offers an effective multi-omics differential diagnostic technique and outperforms existing tools and popular large language models, particularly enhancing differential diagnosis in collecting diagnostically beneficial phenotypes.

The fixation for lateral malleolar fracture in ankle fractures is still controversial. The purpose of this meta-analysis is to compare clinical and radiological outcomes between intramedullary nail (IMN) and plate for lateral malleolar fractures in ankle fractures. The PubMed, EMBASE, and Cochrane Library were searched for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) from databases inception to June 2023. Data on outcomes were extracted and the methodological quality of the included studies were assessed. A meta-analysis was performed using RevMan 5.3 software when the data extracted from included studies could be synthesized. Seven RCTs were included. The methodological quality of the included studies was moderate to high. The meta-analysis results showed that the infection rate of the IMN group was significantly lower than that of the plate group (RR = 0.38; 95%CI 0.18-0.82; p = .01). There were no significant differences between the 2 groups in Olerud and Molander Ankle Score (OMAS), union rate, radiological outcomes, nerve injury rate, reoperation rate, loss of reduction, and total complication rate. Our present meta-analysis demonstrated that the IMN might be a better method for the fixation of lateral malleolar fracture in ankle fracture, as the infection rate was significantly lower than a plate.

Photoluminescence is one of the most meticulous ways to manipulate light energy. Typical photoluminescent emitters are mostly stable substances with a pure photophysical process of spontaneous photon-emission from their excited states. Intermediate emitters are elusive attributing to their synchronous energy transfer process including photophysical and incomplete photochemical pathways. An intermediate emitter containing radicals is more difficult to be observed due to its inherent chemical reactivity. Here, these challenges are overcome by spontaneously formed space limitations in polymer crosslinking networks meanwhile chemically active intermediates are captured. These doublet intermediates exhibit unique long-wavelength emissions under chemically crosslinking confinement conditions, and their luminous mechanism provides a novel perspective for designing intermediate emitters with liquid-crystal character and photoresponsive features towards spatiotemporal encryption, promising for the detection of photochemical reactions and the development of fascinating luminescent systems.

In orchard scenes, the complex terrain environment will affect the operational safety of mowing robots. For this reason, this paper proposes an improved local path planning algorithm for an artificial potential field, which introduces the scope of an elliptic repulsion potential field as the boundary potential field. The potential field function adopts an improved variable polynomial and adds a distance factor, which effectively solves the problems of unreachable targets and local minima. In addition, the scope of the repulsion potential field is changed to an ellipse, and a fruit tree boundary potential field is added, which effectively reduces the environmental potential field complexity, enables the robot to avoid obstacles in advance without crossing the fruit tree boundary, and improves the safety of the robot when working independently. The path length planned by the improved algorithm is 6.78% shorter than that of the traditional artificial potential method, The experimental results show that the path planned using the improved algorithm is shorter, smoother and has good obstacle avoidance ability.

A 47-year-old man presented to the emergency department with right abdominal pain and a new onset of painless haematuria two weeks earlier. Urine cytology test results suggested urothelial carcinoma. Computed tomography urography (CTU) showed a filling defect in the lower right ureter with right hydronephrosis. Lymphadenopathy and any signs of metastatic disease were absent on CTU. Cystoscopy appeared normal. Creatinine level was also normal before surgery. After the treatment options were discussed, the patient chose to undergo 3D total intracorporeal laparoscopic kidney autotransplantation, bladder cuff excision, and segmental resection of the proximal two-thirds of the ureter based on the membrane anatomy concept. After more than one year of follow-up, the patient was in good health and showed no signs of haematuria. Surveillance cystoscopy and CTU examination showed no evidence of disease recurrence. Therefore, it is reasonable to assume that kidney-sparing surgery may be considered for carefully selected patients with high-grade upper tract urothelial carcinoma.

BACKGROUND: Eczema is the most common form of dermatitis and also the starting point of atopic march. Although many eczema-associated allergic and immunologic disorders have been studied, there remains a gap in the systematic quantitative knowledge regarding the relationships between all childhood disorders and eczema. This study aimed to systematically explore eczema-associated childhood diseases using a real-world, long-term clinical dataset generated from millions of children in China. METHODS: Data were collected at 8,907,735 outpatient healthcare visits from 2,592,147 children between January 1, 2013, and August 15, 2019, at the largest comprehensive pediatric medical center in Zhejiang Province of China. The period prevalence differences in various pediatric diseases between children with and without eczema were used to test the independence of various pediatric disorders and eczema using Fisher's exact test. Bonferroni correction was used to adjust the p value in multiple testing. Odds ratio >2 with 95% confidence interval not including 1 and adjusted p < 0.05 was used to identify eczema-associated diseases. RESULTS: Overall, 234 pediatric disorders were identified from more than 6000 different pediatric disorders. An interactive eczema-associated disease map that has related quantitative epidemiological features called ADmap was published at http://pedmap.nbscn.org/admap. Thirty-six of these disease associations have not been reported in previous studies. CONCLUSION: This systematic exploratory study confirmed the associations of many well-known diseases with eczema in Chinese children and also identified some novel and interesting associations. These results are valuable for the development of a comprehensive approach to the management of eczema in childhood.
