RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: The association between non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and osteoarthritis (OA) has not been well elucidated. The aim of the present study was to investigate the association between NAFLD and OA in the US adults. METHODS: A cross-sectional study was performed on participants in the 2017-2018 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) cycle. NAFLD was defined by the vibration-controlled transient elastography. The diagnosis of OA was based on self-reported data. Weighted multiple logistic regression models and stratified analyses were performed to explore the relationship and verify the stability of the conclusions. Sensitivity analysis using multiple imputation for missing data and propensity score matching (PSM) were performed. RESULTS: In total, 2622 participants [Male: 1260 (47.8%)] were included in this study with a mean age of 48.1 years old (95% CI, 46.6-49.6 years old), containing 317 (12.8%) OA patients and 1140 NAFLD patients (41.5%). A logistic regression indicated a significant association between NAFLD and OA without adjustment [odds ratio (OR) = 2.05; 95% CI, 1.52-2.78]. The association remained stable after adjustment for covariates (OR = 1.72; 95% CI, 1.26-2.34). Sensitivity analysis of missing data with multiple interpolation and PSM found similar results. A significant and consistent association of NAFLD with OA was still observed in each subgroup stratified by age and metabolic syndrome (MetS). Stratified by sex, obesity, and sensitivity c-reactive protein (hs-CRP) category, a statistically significant association was only shown in females, those without obesity, and those without hyper hs-CRP. The results illustrated that the relationship between NAFLD and OA was stable in all subgroups and had no interaction. CONCLUSIONS: NAFLD was positively correlated with OA. Given the current pandemic of NAFLD and OA, clinicians should screen for NAFLD in arthritis patients and intervene early.

Background: Systemic lupus erythematosus-associated immune thrombocytopenia (SLE-ITP) is characterized by relapse. The risk factors of relapse and appropriate maintenance therapy strategy deserve further exploration. Objectives: To determine the risk factors for relapse and appropriate maintenance therapy in significant SLE-ITP patients (a platelet count ⩽30 × 109/l) after the first complete response. Design: Retrospective cohort study using the medical records of 105 patients diagnosed as significant SLE-ITP in Fujian Medical University Union Hospital during December 2012 to March 2021. Patients were followed through a call for observations in January 2022. Methods: Data including demographics, initial clinical feature, induction and maintenance therapy, and outcome at the end of follow-up were analyzed. Risk factors for significant relapse were analyzed using multivariate logistic regression models. The cumulative hazard of significant relapse and the duration of response were estimated, and the differences in outcome between groups were compared using the Cox regression analysis. Results: A total of 65 significant SLE-ITP patients were eligible for the final analysis. Median [interquartile range (IQR)] follow-up duration and median [IQR] duration of response were 62.2 [41.0-79.6] months and 43.4 [20.3-68.7] months, respectively. After the first complete response, 19/65 (29.2%) had a significant relapse. Compared with sustained clinical remission (SCR) + sustained response (SR) group, significant relapse group had a higher proportion of discontinued patients (47.4% versus 8.7%, p = 0.001). Among the 13 discontinued patients, the duration of maintenance therapy of the patients in significant relapse group was significantly shorter than that of the patients in SCR + SR group (months, median [IQR], 43.1 [32.0-62.4] versus 12.0 [5.1-22.0], p = 0.009). Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that drug withdrawal was an independent risk factor for significant relapse [odds ratio (OR) = 10.4, confidence interval (CI) 95% 2.2-47.8, p = 0.003]. There was no significant difference between glucocorticoids (GCs) + hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) group and GCs + HCQ + immunosuppressive agents (ISAs) group in significant relapse rate (26.7% versus 22.2%, p > 0.05). The two SR curves of GCs + HCQ and GCs + HCQ+ ISA group basically coincided by the Cox regression analysis, demonstrating comparable long-term outcomes (p > 0.05). Conclusion: Drug withdrawal, especially abrupt withdrawal with insufficient duration of maintenance therapy, is an independent risk factor for significant relapse of SLE-ITP. HCQ combined with GCs is expected to be the first choice of the maintenance therapy for SLE-ITP patients.

Carbon fiber composites are promising candidates for orthopedic implant applications, which calls for a combination of high mechanical strength and outstanding biotribological properties. In this work, hydroxyapatite nanobelts-carbon nanotubes (HN) were designed and constructed into carbon fiber-anhydrous dicalcium phosphate (DCPA)-epoxy composites (CDE) for simultaneously optimizing the mechanical and biotribological properties via the combined methods of pulse electrochemical deposition and injected chemical vapor deposition. HN provides more nucleation sites for the growth of DCPA and favors the infiltration of epoxy. In addition, HN optimizes the fiber/matrix interface by generating strong interfacial mechanical interlocking. Owing to the synergism of a strongly bound HN, the mechanical and biotribological properties of CDE have demonstrated significant improvement. The tensile strength and elastic modulus of HN-modified CDE (HN-CDE) increase by 52 and 170% compared with CDE, respectively. The wear rate and average friction coefficient of HN-CDE are decreased by 42% and increased by 45% compared with those of CDE, respectively. HN-CDE, with superior mechanical strength and biotribological properties, has high potential as a bone substitute and orthopedic implant.

Polymer composites have great potential applications in the hip joint replacement, where the combinations of high mechanical strength and excellent biotribological properties are required. In this work, a well-dispersed three-dimensional (3D) silicon nitride nanowire membrane (SNm) designed as a reinforcement and brushite (Bs) served as bioactive filler are constructed into the polymer matrix, forming SNm-reinforced Bs/polymer composites (SNm-Bs/Pm). Especially, SNm could form a 3D interlocked structure, where the ultralong silicon nitride nanowires are entangled with each other. SNm could effectively facilitate the penetration of the polymer matrix and improve the cohesion strength of the polymer, thereby promoting mechanical and biotribological properties for SNm-Bs/Pm. The performances for polymer composites are optimized by increasing the layer number of preform. By comparing SNm-Bs/Pm with one-layer preform, the tensile strength of SNm-Bs/Pm with six-layer preforms reaches 83.3 MPa with an increase of 767.7%. In addition, the friction coefficient and wear rate of SNm-Bs/Pm with six-layer preforms in fetal bovine serum medium achieve 0.06 and 0.21 × 10-14 m3(N·m)-1 and decrease by 82.4 and 72.4%, respectively. The present work provides a promising methodology of preparing interlocked SNm-reinforced polymer composites with enhanced mechanical and biotribological properties that are potential for hip joint replacement applications.

Background & objectives: Body mass index (BMI) and waist circumference (WC) are widely used to assess obesity, but they are limited in their ability to distinguish complicated body metabolic situations (fat mass, lean body mass, visceral and subcutaneous fat deposits in the abdomen). The purpose of this study was to evaluate the diagnostic efficacy of different anthropometric indices in metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) and to identify the best cut-off point for the diagnosis of MAFLD in United States adults. Methods: A cross-sectional study among 4,195 participants over 18 years old in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 2017-2018 was performed. All patients underwent vibration controlled transient elastography (VCTE). Assess the anthropometric measurements, including BMI, WC, waist-to-height ratio (WHtR), waist-to-hip ratio (WHR), cardiometabolic index (CMI), triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index, hepatic steatosis index (HSI), lipid accumulation product (LAP), body roundness index (BRI), visceral fat index (VAI), abdominal volume index (AVI), cone index (CI), and body fat index (BAI). Logistic regression analyses were conducted to estimate the impact of these indices, on the odds ratio (OR) values of MAFLD. Receiver operator characteristic (ROC) analyses were performed to assess the diagnosing capacity of these anthropometric indices for MAFLD and identify the optimal cut-offs points. Results: A total of 4,195 (2,069 men and 2,126 women) participants were performed, with 45.4 ± 0.64 (mean ± SD) years old. All anthropometric metrics were positively associated with MAFLD, irrespective of whether it was treated as continuous or categorical variable (P<0.05). Multivariate logistic regression showed a positive correlation between AVI, HSI, WHtR, BRI, and MAFLD, with significant interaction with gender. ROC curves results showed that LAP had the highest AUC [0.813 (95% CI, 0.800-0.826)], especially in participants aged between 18 and 50 years old. Furthermore, LAP showed the highest ROC in both the training set [0.812 (95% CI, 0.800-0.835)] and the validation set [0.809 (95% CI, 0.791-0.827)]. Conclusions: In the present study, we showed that those anthropometric indices were significantly associated with MAFLD in United States adults. Besides, the association of HSI, BRI, AVI, and WHtR with MAFLD was more obvious in men than in women. LAP may be a sensitive marker for diagnosing MAFLD in U.S. adults.

Progress has been made in COVID-19 vaccine development, with encouraging safety and efficacy data. The purpose of this study was to investigate the immunogenicity of inactivated COVID-19 vaccine in patients with autoimmune inflammatory rheumatic diseases (AIIRD). Patients with AIIRD (n = 101) were included in this study. All patients received 2 doses of inactivated COVID-19 vaccine. Serum anti-S1/RBD protein IgG was detected 2-16 weeks after the second vaccination. Seropositivity was defined as IgG ≥ 1.00 bound antibody unit S/CO. Immunogenicity of inactivated COVID-19 vaccine was assessed by seropositivity rate and the levels of serum IgG antibody against anti-S1/RBD protein, compared with the general population (n = 46). There was no difference by statistical significance in the seropositivity rate between patients with AIIRD (82.2%) and SLE (86.1%) and the control group (93.5%), p > 0.05. The level of anti-S1/RBD protein IgG antibodies in patients with AIIRD (median [IQR], 8.8 [2.2-17.3]) and SLE (median [IQR], 9.6 [2.4-20.4]) was comparable to that in the control group (median [IQR], 7.2 [3.1-14.2]), p > 0.05. Patients treated with glucocorticoids(GCs) (median dose, [IQR]: 2.5 mg/day [IQR 2.5-5.0]) or hydroxychloroquine(HCQ) or GCs + HCQ without other immunomodulatory medications, had an appropriate immunogenic response(88.1%) with high levels of anti-S1/RBD protein IgG(median [IQR], 12.1 [6.5-20.4]). Neither of patients treated with rituximab had positive serum antibodies, which was statistically significant, compared with the control group (p < 0.01). Compared with the control group, methotrexate(MTX) and iguratimod(IGU) was significantly reduced the level of anti-S1/RBD protein IgG antibodies. Inactivated COVID-19 vaccine had appropriate immunogenicity in patients with AIIRD. Immunogenicity of inactivated COVID-19 vaccine was severely impaired by rituximab, and also suppressed by MTX and IGU, while low doses of GC and HCQ had negligible effect.

Contest: The relationship between metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) and liver stiffness and bone mineral density (BMD) remains unclear. Objectives: We aimed to investigate the association between MAFLD and liver stiffness and BMD in the United States population. Methods: A cross-sectional study among 2031 participants over 50 years old in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 2017-2018 was performed. All patients underwent vibration controlled transient elastography (VCTE) and dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry (DXA). The linear and logistic regression model were used to analyze the association between the MAFLD and liver stiffness and osteoporosis, with adjustments for known covariates. Furthermore, the sensitive analyses were conducted to explore the relationship between MAFLD and liver stiffness and whole osteoporosis (include femoral and lumbar osteoporosis). Results: MAFLD was prevalent in the study population, with a prevalence of 50.9% for men and 40.7% for women. The multiple linear models demonstrated positive associations between MAFLD and liver stiffness and total femur BMD, femur neck BMD, trochanter BMD, intertrochanter BMD. In multiple logistic regression models, both MAFLD and significant liver fibrosis were negatively associated with femoral osteoporosis (OR=0.41, 95% CI: 0.27 to 0.63; OR=0.67, 95% CI: 0.33-1.37, respectively). Nonetheless, when BMI was adjusted, the association between MAFLD and liver stiffness and osteoporosis became insignificant. Besides, as showed in the sensitive analyses, the relationship between MAFLD and liver stiffness and whole osteoporosis were stable. Conclusions: These results suggest that MAFLD and liver stiffness were associated with higher femoral and lumbar bone mineral density in individuals aged over 50 years. But the results may be confounded by BMI.

The scale-up preparation of aramid nanofiber (ANF) and cellulose nanofiber (CNF), still faces serious challenges such as extreme production cost and lengthy preparation cycle. Herein, a feasible top-down strategy was proposed to achieve the efficient reclamation of waste resources, further realizing the large-scale production of high value-added nanofibers. The ANF/CNF as nanoscale building blocks and their reinforcement effects on the mechanical performances of carbon fiber/phenolic composites were investigated. Related strength and modulus of ANF/CNF-enhanced composites in the tensile, bending, shear and nano indentation tests, increased by 118.1% (tensile strength), 141.2% (tensile modulus), 142.2% (flexural strength), 354.4% (flexural modulus), 38.8% (shear strength) and 94.4% (elastic modulus), respectively. Our work offers a valuable reference in the fabrication of low-cost ANF/CNF derived from waste resources, which would facilitate the wide application of nanofibers in fabricating high-performance advanced functional materials.

OBJECTIVE: For major depressive disorder (MDD), there has been a lack of neuroimaging markers of efficacy of pharmacological treatment. In this study, we aimed to explore the neuroimaging mechanisms in patients with first-episode MDD and identify markers that predict the efficacy of 5-hydroxytryptamine reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) with the use of resting-state brain imaging technology. METHODS: A total of 101 patients with first-episode MDD and 53 normal controls were finally included in this study. Based on the reduction rate of the score of Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HAMD-17) during the 2-week SSRI treatment, 31 patients were assigned into the unresponsive group and 32 were assigned into the responsive group. The brain function was compared between patients with MDD and normal controls, and the diagnostic value of brain function was analyzed. With brain regions showing differences between patients with MDD and normal controls as a mask, and the brain function between the responsive and unresponsive groups were compared. Correlations between brain function the HAMD-17 score reduction rate during the 2-week SSRI treatment were analyzed. RESULTS: Compared to normal controls, patients with MDD showed increased ReHo in the left parahippocampal gyrus and right parahippocampal gyrus, decreased ReHo in the right middle occipital gyrus, and decreased functional connectivity between the right and left parahippocampal gyri, right middle occipital gyrus and middle temporal gyrus. Receiver operator characteristic (ROC) curve analysis showed that the area under the curve (AUC) was 0.544 (95% CI: 0.445-0.644) for ReHo and 0.822 (95% CI: 0.734-0.909) for functional connectivity. Logistic regression pooling of the differences in ReHo mean time series with the functional connectivity mean time series was performed for the ROC curve analysis, which showed an AUC of 0.832 (95% CI: 0.752-0.911). Compared to the responsive group, the unresponsive group showed elevated ReHo in the right parahippocampal gyrus and lower functional connectivity in the middle temporal gyrus. We also found that the ReHo value was negatively correlated with the HAMD-17 score reduction after 2 weeks of SSRI treatment. CONCLUSION: Altered resting-state brain function in some regions might be a neurobiological marker for the diagnosis of MDD, and ReHo values are expected to be predictors of patient response to treatment with SSRIs. The aim of this study is to evaluate the relationship between antinuclear antibody (ANA) titer and specificity, as well as the relationship between the number of positive-autoantibodies (AAbs) in antinuclear antibodies (ANAs) and specificity for systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), so as to explore their significance in the diagnosis of SLE. A total of 1297 patients with ANA results was enrolled in this study, including 148 patients with SLE patients. The sensitivity, specificity, sensitive likelihood ratio and specific likelihood ratio of indicators in SLE were determined by receiver-operator characteristic (ROC) curve after measurement of ANA and ANAs by indirect immunofluorescence (IIF) and immunoblotting, respectively. ROC analysis showed that the specificity of ANA titer ≥ 1 +, ≥ 2 + and ≥ 3 + for SLE was estimated to be 81.29%, 90.69% and 96.52% respectively, with a increased titer-specific likelihood ratio (5.16, 9.29 and 19.60, respectively). The specificity of the number of positive-AAbs ≥ 1, ≥ 2 and ≥ 3 in ANAs for SLE was estimated to be 80.42%, 94.95% and 99.3% respectively, with a increased number-specific likelihood ratio (4.8, 15.26 and 72.48, respectively). The estimated sensitivity of the number of positive-AAbs ≥ 3, AnuA and anti-rRNP was higher than that of anti-Sm (p < 0.01) (50.68%, 41.89% and 31.76% vs. 16.89%, respectively), while there was no significant difference in their specificity (99.3%, 99.74% and 99.56% vs. 99.74%, respectively) (p > 0.05). High titers of ANA and the presence of multiple AAbs in ANAs are highly specific for SLE and highly suggestive of SLE. The likelihood of SLE can be assessed by ANA titer and the number of positive-AAbs in ANAs.

Environment-friendly concrete is gaining popularity these days because it consumes less energy and causes less damage to the environment. Rapid increases in the population and demand for construction throughout the world lead to a significant deterioration or reduction in natural resources. Meanwhile, construction waste continues to grow at a high rate as older buildings are destroyed and demolished. As a result, the use of recycled materials may contribute to improving the quality of life and preventing environmental damage. Additionally, the application of recycled coarse aggregate (RCA) in concrete is essential for minimizing environmental issues. The compressive strength (CS) and splitting tensile strength (STS) of concrete containing RCA are predicted in this article using decision tree (DT) and AdaBoost machine learning (ML) techniques. A total of 344 data points with nine input variables (water, cement, fine aggregate, natural coarse aggregate, RCA, superplasticizers, water absorption of RCA and maximum size of RCA, density of RCA) were used to run the models. The data was validated using k-fold cross-validation and the coefficient correlation coefficient (R2), mean square error (MSE), mean absolute error (MAE), and root mean square error values (RMSE). However, the model's performance was assessed using statistical checks. Additionally, sensitivity analysis was used to determine the impact of each variable on the forecasting of mechanical properties.

Objectives: This study aims to the prevalence of antinuclear antibody (ANA)-negative systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and their clinical characteristics in a large single-center SLE inception cohort to provide guidance for early diagnosis. Patients and methods: Between December 2012 and March 2021, the medical records of a total of 617 firstly diagnosed SLE patients (83 males, 534 females; median age [IQR]: 33+22.46 years) who fulfilled the selection criteria were retrospectively analyzed. The patients were divided into groups with ANA-negative SLE and ANA-positive SLE, or with prolonged use of glucocorticoids or immunosuppressants (SLE-1) and without (SLE-0). Demographic, clinical characteristics, and laboratory features were collected. Results: The total prevalence of ANA-negative SLE patients was 2.11% (13/617). The prevalence of ANA-negative SLE in SLE-1 (7.46%) was significantly higher than that in SLE-0 (1.48%) (p<0.01). The ANA-negative SLE patients had a higher prevalence of thrombocytopenia (84.62%) than ANA-positive SLE patients (34.27%). As with ANA-positive SLE, ANA-negative SLE also had a high prevalence of low complement (92.31%) and anti-double-stranded deoxyribonucleic acid (anti-dsDNA) positivity (69.23%). The prevalence of medium-high titer anti-cardiolipin antibody (aCL) IgG (50.00%) and anti-ß2 glycoprotein I (anti-ß2GPI) (50.00%) of ANA-negative SLE was significantly higher than that of ANA-positive SLE (11.22% and 14.93%, respectively). Conclusion: The prevalence of ANA-negative SLE is very low, but it exists, particularly under the influence of prolonged use of glucocorticoids or immunosuppressants. Carbon fiber/phenolic composites have wide application prospects in the transmission of vehicles, where the combination of prominent mechanical and tribological properties is required. Multiscale metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) and polydopamine (PDA) as binary reinforcements were employed to construct a rigid-flexible hierarchical structure for improving the interfacial performances of friction materials. This unique rigid-flexible (MOFs/PDA) reinforcement could act as an effective interfacial linker, significantly facilitating the integration of fibers into the matrix and establishing a strong mechanical interlocking and chemical bonding onto the fiber/matrix interphase, thus boosting the mechanical and tribological properties of the composites. Benefiting from the MOF/PDA synergistic enhancement effects, the interlaminar shear strength of ZIF-8-composites (P1), MOF-5-composites (P2) and UiO-66-(COOH)2-composites (P3) was improved by 70.80%, 43.80% and 53.28%, respectively. In addition, the wear rate of P1 decreased from 3.55 × 10-8 cm3 J-1 to 2.45 × 10-8 cm3 J-1. This work provides a feasible approach for establishing rigid-flexible reinforced structures and opens up a double-component synergistic enhancement strategy to efficiently promote mechanical and tribological properties for fabricating high-performance carbon fiber/phenolic composites.

Carbon fiber composites composed of carbon fiber and pyrolytic carbon (PyC) matrix have great potential application in the brakes of aircrafts, where the combination of high mechanical strength and excellent frictional properties are required. In this work, two-component silicon-based interlocking enhancements were designed and constructed into carbon fiber composites for boosting the mechanical and frictional properties. Specially, silicon carbide nanowires (SiCnws) and silicon nitride nanobelts (Si3N4nbs) could form interlocking architectures, where SiCnws are rooted firmly on the carbon fiber surface in the radial direction and Si3N4nbs integrate the PyC matrix with carbon fibers together via a networked shape. SiCnws-Si3N4nbs not only refine the PyC matrix but also promote the bonding of the fiber/matrix interface and the cohesion strength of the PyC matrix, thus enhancing the mechanical and frictional properties. Benefiting from the SiCnws-Si3N4nbs synergistic effect and interlocking enhancement mechanism, the interlaminar shear strength and compressive strength of carbon fiber composites increased by 88.41% and 73.40%, respectively. In addition, the friction coefficient and wear rate of carbon fiber composites decreased by 39.50% and 69.88%, respectively. This work could open up an interlocking enhancement strategy for efficiently fabricating carbon fiber composites and promoting mechanical and frictional properties that could be used in the brakes of aircrafts.

Recently, much attention has been drawn in the development of flexible energy storage devices due to the increasing demands for flexible/portable electronic devices with high energy density, low weight, and good flexibility. Herein, vertically oriented graphene nanosheets (VGNs) are in situ fabricated on the surface of free-standing and flexible Si3 N4 nanowires (NWs) membrane by plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD), which are directly used as flexible nanoscale conductive substrates. NiCo2 O4 hollow nanospheres (HSs) and FeOOH amorphous nanorods (NRs) are finally prepared on Si3 N4NWs @VGNs, which are served as the positive and negative electrodes, respectively. Profiting from the structural merits, the synthesized Si3 N4NWs @VGNs@NiCo2 O4HSs and Si3 N4NWs @VGNs@FeOOHNRs membrane electrodes exhibit remarkable electrochemical performance. Using Si3 N4NWs membrane as the separator, the assembled all Si3 N4NWs membrane-based flexible solid-state asymmetric supercapacitor (ASC) with a wide operating potential window of 1.8 V yields the outstanding energy density of 96.3 Wh kg-1 , excellent cycling performance (91.7% after 6000 cycles), and good mechanical flexibility. More importantly, this work provides a rational design strategy for the preparation of flexible electrode materials and broadens the applications of Si3 N4NWs in the field of energy storage.

Materials with low density, exceptional thermal and corrosion resistance, and ultrahigh mechanical and electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding performance are urgently demanded for aerospace and military industries. Efficient design of materials' components and microstructures is crucial yet remains highly challenging for achieving the above requirements. Herein, a strengthened reduced graphene oxide (SrGO)-reinforced multi-interfacial carbon-silicon carbide (C-SiC)n matrix (SrGO/(C-SiC)n) composite is reported, which is fabricated by depositing a carbon-strengthening layer into rGO foam followed by alternate filling of pyrocarbon (PyC) and silicon carbide (SiC) via a precursor infiltration pyrolysis (PIP) method. By increasing the number of alternate PIP sequences (n = 1, 3 and 12), the mechanical, electrical, and EMI shielding properties of SrGO/(C-SiC)n composites are significantly increased. The optimal composite exhibits excellent conductivity of 8.52 S·cm-1 and powerful average EMI shielding effectiveness (SE) of 70.2 dB over a broad bandwidth of 32 GHz, covering the entire X-, Ku-, K-, and Ka-bands. The excellent EMI SE benefits from the massive conduction loss in highly conductive SrGO skeletons and polarization relaxation of rich heterogeneous PyC/SiC interfaces. Our composite features low density down to 1.60 g·cm-3 and displays robust compressive properties (up to 163.8 MPa in strength), owing to the uniformly distributed heterogeneous interfaces capable of consuming great fracture energy upon loadings. Moreover, ultrahigh thermostructural stability (up to 2100 °C in Ar) and super corrosion resistance (no strength degradation after long-term acid and alkali immersion) are also discovered. These excellent comprehensive properties, along with ease of low-cost and scalable production, could potentially promote the practical applications of the SrGO/(C-SiC)n composite in the near future.

The π-conjugation of molecules has a large influence on their excited state properties, especially for red thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) materials. Two orange-red TADF compounds comprising dual dicyano-substituted pyrazine/quinoxaline acceptors have been designed and synthesized. TPA-2DCNQ (3,3'-((phenylazanediyl)bis(4,1-phenylene))bis(2-phenylquinoxaline-6,7-dicarbonitrile) with extended π-conjugated quinoxaline as the acceptor exhibits higher photoluminescence quantum yields (ca. 0.67-0.71) in doped films. A smaller energy splitting (ΔEst ) between the first singlet excited state and triplet excited state is also achieved, indicating that extending the π-conjugation of the acceptor rationally is an effective approach to designing highly efficient long-wavelength TADF materials. Devices with TPA-2DCNQ as the emitter display maximum external quantum efficiencies (EQEs) of 12.6-14.0 %, which are more than twice those of devices containing TPA-2DCNPZ (6,6'-((phenylazanediyl)bis(4,1-phenylene))bis(5-phenylpyrazine-2,3-dicarbonitrile).

Objective: Major depression disorder (MDD) is a harmful disorder, and the pathological mechanism remains unclear. The primary pharmacotherapy regimen for MDD is selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), but fewer than 40% of patients with MDD are in remission following initial treatment. Neuroimaging biomarkers of treatment efficacy can be used to guide personalized treatment in MDD. This study aims to determine if cortical thickness can be used as a predictor for SSRIs. Methods: A total of 126 first-episode, drug-naive MDD patients (MDDs) and 71 healthy controls (HCs) were enrolled in our study. Demographic data were collected according to the self-made case report form (CRF) at the baseline of all subjects. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanning was performed for all the participants at baseline, and all imaging was processed using the DPABISurf software. All MDDs were treated with SSRIs, and symptoms were assessed at both the baseline and 2 weeks using the 17-item Hamilton Rating Scale (HAMD-17). According to HAMD-17 total score improvement from baseline to the end of 2 weeks, the MDDs were divided into the non-responder group (defined as ≤ 20% HAMD-17 reduction) and responder group (defined as ≥50% HAMD-17 reduction). The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was used to analyze the diagnostic value of MDDs' and HCs' cortical thickness for MDD. Correlation analysis was performed for the responder group and the non-responder group separately to identify the relationship between cortical thickness and SSRI treatment efficacy. To analyze whether cortical thickness was sufficient to differentiate responders and non-responders at baseline, we used ROC curve analysis. Results: Significant decreases were found in the cortical thickness of the right supplementary motor area (SMA) in MDDs at the baseline (corrected by the Monte Carlo permutation correction, cluster-wise significant threshold at p < 0.025 and vertex-wise threshold at p = 0.001), area under the curve (AUC) = 0.732 [95% confidence interval (CI) = 0.233-0.399]. In the responder group, the cortical thickness of the right SMA was significantly thinner than in the non-responder group at baseline. There was a negative correlation (r = -0.373, p = 0.044) between the cortical thickness of SMA (0 weeks) and HAMD-17 reductive rate (2 weeks) in the responder group. The results of ROC curve analyses of the responder and non-responder groups were AUC = 0.885 (95% CI = 0.803-0.968), sensitivity = 73.5%, and specificity = 96.6%, and the cutoff value was 0.701. Conclusion: Lower cortical thickness of the right SMA in MDD patients at the baseline may be a neuroimaging biomarker for MDD diagnosis, and a greater extent of thinner cortical thickness in the right SMA at baseline may predict improved SSRI treatment response. Our study shows the potential of cortical thickness as a possible biomarker that predicts a patient's clinical treatment response to SSRIs in MDD.

Rational construction of hierarchical electrode materials has been a research hotspot in the field of energy storage. In this work, metal-organic framework (MOF) derived hollow NiCo2O4 nanocages (NCs) were strung by interwoven SiC nanowires (NWs) network on carbon cloth (CC), forming a unique sugar gourd-like core-shell architecture, which were fabricated via a multi-step process containing of chemical vapor deposition, solution reaction of MOF templates, ion exchanging/etching and subsequent heat treatment. Benefiting from the unique structural advantages, such as hierarchical porous structure with abundant active sites for electrochemical reactions and interwoven conductive networks for electron transport, the formed core-shelled CC/SiCNWs@NiCo2O4NCs as a binder supercapacitor electrode exhibits excellent electrochemical performance with a large specific capacitance (1377.6F g-1 at a current density of 1 A g-1), good rate capability (68.8% capacitance retention at 20 A g-1) and excellent cycling stability (88.3% capacitance retention after 6000 cycles). Furthermore, the hybrid supercapacitor based on CC/SiCNWs@NiCo2O4NCs and activated carbon, not only delivers a high energy density of 46.58 Wh kg-1 at the power density of 800 W kg-1, but also possesses good flexibility with high capacitance retention, exhibiting the application potential in the field of flexible energy storage. More importantly, our work gives a new thinking for structural design of SiCNWs-based and MOF-based electrode materials for high-performance flexible energy storage.
