BACKGROUND: Measuring stem diameter (SD) is a crucial foundation for forest resource management, but current methods require expert personnel and are time-consuming and costly. In this study, we proposed a novel device and method for automatic SD measurement using an image sensor and a laser module. Firstly, the laser module generated a spot on the tree stem that could be used as reference information for measuring SD. Secondly, an end-to-end model was performed to identify the trunk contour in the panchromatic image from the image sensor. Finally, SD was calculated from the linear relationship between the trunk contour and the spot diameter in pixels. RESULTS: We conducted SD measurements in three natural scenarios with different land cover types: transitional woodland/shrub, mixed forest, and green urban area. The SD values varied from 2.00 cm to 89.00 cm across these scenarios. Compared with the field tape measurements, the SD data measured by our method showed high consistency in different natural scenarios. The absolute mean error was 0.36 cm and the root mean square error was 0.45 cm. Our integrated device is low cost, portable, and without the assistance of a tripod. Compared to most studies, our method demonstrated better versatility and exhibited higher performance. CONCLUSION: Our method achieved the automatic, efficient and accurate measurement of SD in natural scenarios. In the future, the device will be further explored to be integrated into autonomous mobile robots for more scenarios.

The phenomenon of droplets impacting elastic surfaces is common in nature and in many engineering applications. It has been shown that droplet impact on an elastic surface drastically reduces droplet contact time and hinders droplet spreading. However, most of the current studies are based on experiments, and the analysis of the influence mechanism of the elastic substrate on the dynamic behavior of droplets is not complete. In addition, the simulations of droplet impact on elastic substrates are mainly focused on 2D elastic films or vibrating rigid substrates, ignoring the effect of 3D elastic substrate deformation on the droplet dynamic behavior. Therefore, in this paper, we propose to model the droplet impact on a 3D hydrophobic elastic substrate using the molecular dynamics method. We find that droplet pancake rebound can substantially reduce the droplet contact time. Moreover, we record the conditions required for the pancake rebound of the droplet. Furthermore, we investigated the effects of the elastic modulus of the substrate and the initial velocity of the droplet on the droplet contact time, contact area, and spreading factor. This study further elucidates the influence mechanism of the elastic substrate on the dynamic behavior of the droplet and provides theoretical guidance for regulating the dynamic behavior of the droplet in related fields.

BACKGROUND: Currently, there is no instrument available to assess intensive care unit (ICU) nurses' knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) of central line-associated bloodstream infection (CLABSI) prevention practices. PURPOSE: To develop and validate a CLABSI questionnaire to measure ICU nurses' KAP (CLABSI-KAP-Q). METHODS: Data were collected from 255 nurses at 4 hospitals in Gansu Province, China. Questions on the CLABSI-KAP-Q were generated through a review of the literature, interviews with nurses, and multiple rounds of content validity evaluation by experts. The validity and reliability of the CLABSI-KAP-Q were assessed with exploratory factor analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, internal consistency, and correlation coefficients. RESULTS: The final version of the CLABSI-KAP-Q consisted of 32 items. The reliability was represented by a Cronbach α of 0.946, while the test-retest reliability was 0.945. The overall content validity was 0.95. CONCLUSIONS: The CLABSI-KAP-Q is shown to be valid and reliable and recommended for use in clinical practice.

Background: The current study analyzed the status and the factors of foot ulcers in diabetic patients and developed a nomogram and web calculator for the risk prediction model of diabetic foot ulcers. Methods: This was a prospective cohort study that used cluster sampling to enroll diabetic patients in the Department of Endocrinology and Metabolism in a tertiary hospital in Chengdu from July 2015 to February 2020. The risk factors for diabetic foot ulcers were obtained by logistic regression analysis. Nomogram and web calculator for the risk prediction model were constructed by R software. Results: The incidence of foot ulcers was 12.4% (302/2432). Logistic stepwise regression analysis showed that BMI (OR: 1.059; 95% CI 1.021-1.099), abnormal foot skin color (OR: 1.450; 95% CI 1.011-2.080), foot arterial pulse (OR: 1.488; 95% CI: 1.242-1.778), callus (OR: 2.924; 95%: CI 2.133-4.001), and history of ulcer (OR: 3.648; 95% CI: 2.133-5.191) were risk factors for foot ulcers. The nomogram and web calculator model were developed according to risk predictors. The performance of the model was tested, and the testing data were as follows: AUC (area under curve) of the primary cohort was 0.741 (95% CI: 0.7022-0.7799), and AUC of the validation cohort was 0.787 (95% CI: 0.7342-0.8407); the Brier score of the primary cohort was 0.098, and the Brier score of the validation cohort was 0.087. Conclusions: The incidence of diabetic foot ulcers was high, especially in diabetic patients with a history of foot ulcers. This study presented a nomogram and web calculator that incorporates BMI, abnormal foot skin color, foot arterial pulse, callus, and history of foot ulcers, which can be conveniently used to facilitate the individualized prediction of diabetic foot ulcers.

BACKGROUND: Normal-renal calciphylaxis (NRC) is a devastating calcific vasculopathy characterised by refractory wounds. It is more likely to be misdiagnosed because of the absence of renal insufficiency. Failure to effectively control may lead to rapid deterioration and ultimately death. However, current knowledge of it is still inadequate. OBJECTIVES: To provide a relatively comprehensive review of NRC. METHODS: Nine electronic medical databases including PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, the Cochrane Library and so on were searched from inception to April 1, 2022. Articles in which calciphylaxis was diagnosed in patients with normal renal function were included. RESULTS: Totally 140 articles were retrieved with 187 patients (median age, 62 years [IQR, 49.63 ~ 75.70 years]; 83.42% female; 84.5% Caucasian). Vitamin K antagonism (43.32%) and diabetes (39.57%) accounted for most of the concomitant factors. Cutaneous presentations were the most common. Pathological confirmation was made in 97.86% of patients with an accuracy of 99.45%. Multidisciplinary therapeutic strategies were usually implemented while the final prognosis was not ideal, with a 6-month mortality rate of 21.10% and a 1-year mortality rate of 27.52%. CONCLUSION: NRC is an under-recognised disease caused by a variety of factors; meanwhile, multidisciplinary efforts are required to inform diagnostic and therapeutic decisions.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES: This study investigated the relationship between frailty and diabetes complicated with comorbidities. BACKGROUND: Frailty is a common geriatric syndrome, and older adults with diabetes are prone to frailty. Patients with diabetes and comorbidities might be at increased risk of developing frailty. DESIGN: A multicenter cross-sectional study. METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted to identify older patients with diabetes and comorbidities in the internal medicine departments of five tertiary general hospitals in Sichuan Province, China, from March 2020 to June 2021. We used the FRAIL scale to identify frailty, and multinomial logistic regression was used to compare sociodemographic characteristics and comorbidities of frail or pre-frail participants with robust participants. The STROBE checklist was used for this cross-sectional study. RESULTS: A total of 1652 patients (883 males, 53.5%) were included, and the prevalence of frailty was 26.5%. Multinomial logistic regression analysis revealed that compared with robust patients, diabetic patients with hypertension, coronary heart disease, chronic cardiac failure, COPD, cerebrovascular diseases, osteoarticular diseases, chronic renal diseases, chronic gastrointestinal diseases and cancer were more likely to be frail. In addition, patients who engaged in less exercise, presented more comorbidities, were older and had lower education levels, were more prone to frailty. CONCLUSION: There was a clear correlation between diabetes complicated with comorbidities and the development of frailty. Appropriate personalised care levels for patients with diabetes and comorbidities, and early screening for frailty might reduce the prevalence of frailty in these patients. RELEVANCE TO CLINICAL PRACTICE: This study provided information for healthcare providers to identify circumstances that increase the risk of frailty and more effectively support patients with diabetes and comorbidities.

RESUMEN

Five new flavonoid derivatives, cajavolubones A-E (1-5), along with six known analogues (6-11) were isolated from Cajanus volubilis, and their structures were elucidated by spectroscopic analysis and quantum chemical calculations. Cajavolubones A and B (1 and 2) were identified as two geranylated chalcones. Cajavolubone C (3) was a prenylated flavone, while cajavolubones D and E (4 and 5) were two prenylated isoflavanones. Compounds 3, 8, 9 and 11 displayed cytotoxicity against HCT-116 cancer cell line.

This study aimed to parallelly investigate the cardioprotective activity of Cinnamomi Ramulus formula granules(CRFG) and Cinnamomi Cortex formula granules(CCFG) against acute myocardial ischemia/reperfusion injury(MI/RI) and the underlying mechanism based on the efficacy of "warming and coordinating the heart Yang". Ninety male SD rats were randomly divided into a sham group, a model group, CRFG low and high-dose(0.5 and 1.0 g·kg~(-1)) groups, and CCFG low and high-dose(0.5 and 1.0 g·kg~(-1)) groups, with 15 rats in each group. The sham group and the model group were given equal volumes of normal saline by gavage. Before modeling, the drug was given by gavage once a day for 7 consecutive days. One hour after the last administration, the MI/RI rat model was established by ligating the left anterior descending artery(LAD) for 30 min ischemia followed by 2 h reperfusion except the sham group. The sham group underwent the same procedures without LAD ligation. Heart function, cardiac infarct size, cardiac patho-logy, cardiomyocyte apoptosis, cardiac injury enzymes, and inflammatory cytokines were determined to assess the protective effects of CRFG and CCFG against MI/RI. The gene expression levels of nucleotide-binding oligomerization domain-like receptor family pyrin domain protein 3(NLRP3) inflammasome, apoptosis-associated speck-like protein containing a CARD(ASC), cysteinyl aspartate specific proteinase-1(caspase-1), Gasdermin-D(GSDMD), interleukin-1β(IL-1β), and interleukin-18(IL-18) were determined by real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction(RT-PCR). The protein expression levels of NLRP3, caspase-1, GSDMD, and N-GSDMD were determined by Western blot. The results showed that both CRFG and CCFG pretreatments significantly improved cardiac function, decreased the cardiac infarct size, inhibited cardiomyocyte apoptosis, and reduced the content of lactic dehydrogenase(LDH), creatine kinase MB isoenzyme(CK-MB), aspartate transaminase(AST), and cardiac troponin Ⅰ(cTnⅠ). In addition, CRFG and CCFG pretreatments significantly decreased the levels of IL-1β, IL-6, and tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α) in serum. RT-PCR results showed that CRFG and CCFG pretreatment down-regulated the mRNA expression levels of NLRP3, caspase-1, ASC, and downstream pyroptosis-related effector substances including GSDMD, IL-18, and IL-1β in cardiac tissues. Western blot revealed that CRFG and CCFG pretreatments significantly decreased the protein expression levels of NLRP3, caspase-1, GSDMD, and N-GSDMD in cardiac tissues. In conclusion, CRFG and CCFG pretreatments have obvious cardioprotective effects on MI/RI in rats, and the under-lying mechanism may be related to the inhibition of NLRP3/caspase-1/GSDMD signaling pathway to reduce the cardiac inflammatory response.

BACKGROUND: As patients age, the frailty of those with multimorbidity increases, often resulting in adverse health outcomes. The current study investigated the frailty status and the factors which influence it in elderly patients with multimorbidity in Chinese hospitals. The relationship between the frailty of patients with multimorbidity and adverse outcomes was explored. METHODS: The current prospective cohort study investigated inpatients in the internal medicine department of 5 tertiary hospitals in Sichuan Province, China. A total of 3836 elderly patients with multimorbidity were enrolled. Frailty was assessed using the FRAIL scale and adverse outcome events occurring during hospitalization were tracked. Descriptive statistics and logistic regressions were used for data analysis. RESULTS: The prevalence of frailty was 27.2% and of pre-frailty, 58.9%. Logistic regression analysis showed that increasing age, low BMI, low education level, lack of exercise, multiple types of medications and multiple numbers of chronic diseases were the main risk factors for frailty in elderly patients with multimorbidity (OR values: 1.020, 1.469, 2.350, 2.836, 1.156 and 1.308, respectively). The incidence of adverse outcomes was 13.9% among the cohort with the most common being deep vein thrombosis (42.4%), followed by pressure injury (38.8%). Regression analysis showed a significant correlation of frailty with adverse outcome (OR: 1.496; p < 0.01). CONCLUSIONS: The prevalence of frailty and pre-frailty in hospitalized elderly patients with multimorbidity was high. Increasing age, low BMI, low education level, lack of exercise, multiple types of medications and multiple numbers of chronic diseases were factors which influenced frailty and frailty was an important factor in the occurrence of adverse outcomes. The most common adverse outcome of elderly multimorbidity patients during hospitalization was deep vein thrombosis.

To evaluate the efficacy and safety of topical oxygen therapy (TOT) in diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs), researchers systematically retrieved relevant studies from PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science, CENTRAL and ClinicalTrials.gov. Relevant studies were searched from database inception to January 2022. Two researchers independently screened the literature, extracted data and assessed the quality of the included studies. Statistical analysis was performed in Stata 16.0. A total of seven RCTs involving 614 participants were included. Compared with the control group, the TOT group had a higher healing rate (RR = 1.63, 95% CI [1.33, 2.00]). According to descriptive analysis, TOT reduced the ulcer area and improved healing durability and quality of life. Furthermore, it had no effect on the occurrence of adverse events. However, it was unclear whether it would be able to reduce the healing time. The existing evidence suggests that TOT is effective and safe for chronic DFUs. Further studies are warranted to validate our findings.

The dynamic behavior of droplets impacting on textured surfaces has an important influence on many engineering applications, such as anti-icing and self-cleaning. However, the mechanism and law of the effect of textured surfaces on the impact behavior of nanodroplets has not been fully revealed yet. In this paper, the molecular dynamics (MD) method is used to model the dynamic behavior of nanodroplets after impacting the solid surface with a striped texture. The influences of texture gap and texture angle on the real contact area, spreading factor, contact time, and bounce velocity of the droplet after impact are also quantitatively analyzed. It is shown that the striped texture produces significant anisotropy in the spreading and contraction behavior of nanodroplets after impact, and the anisotropy is more pronounced on the ridged texture surface than on the grooved texture surface. In addition, we find that the texture gap has little effect on the dynamic behavior of nanodroplets impacting the textured surface. However, as the bottom angle of the texture increases, the real contact area and bounce velocity of the nanodroplet increase significantly, while the contact time and spreading factor decrease. This work further elucidates the characteristics and mechanisms of nanodroplets impacting on stripe-textured surfaces and provides a theoretical basis for the design of nanostructured surfaces in relevant applications.

AIMS: This study aimed to investigate the influencing factors of frailty in elderly patients with multimorbidity and to develop a predictive risk model for frailty in elderly patients with multimorbidity. METHODS: In total, 3836 elderly patients with multimorbidity who were admitted to the medical wards of five grade A tertiary hospitals in Sichuan Province from March 2020 to June 2021 were selected. Based on the general data of patients with multimorbidity, the independent risk factors for frailty were obtained using logistic analysis, and a risk prediction model of frailty was developed. RESULTS: Independent risk factors for frailty in patients with multimorbidity were age, types of medication, and comorbidity with chronic heart failure (CHF), chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and chronic cerebrovascular disease (CCVD); and the protective factors for frailty were body mass index (BMI), exercise and education level. The expression of the model was Z = -2.054 + 0.016 × age - 0.029 × BMI - 0.153 × education level-1.059 × exercise + 0.203 × types of medication + 0.788 × comorbidity with CHF + 0.950 × comorbidity with COPD + 0.363 × comorbidity with CCVD. CONCLUSION: Age, BMI, education level, exercise, types of medication, and comorbidity with CHF, COPD and CCVD can affect frailty risk in elderly patients with multimorbidity, which may be helpful to predict the frailty risk of elderly patients with multimorbidity. Fourteen new geranyl phenyl ethers (1-14) along with three known compounds (15-17) were isolated from Illicium micranthum, and their structures were elucidated by comprehensive spectroscopic methods. Illimicranins A-H (1-8) were characterized as geranyl vanillin ethers, while 9 and 10 were dimethyl acetal derivatives. Illimicranins I and J (11 and 12) were rare geranyl isoeugenol ethers. Illimicranins K and L (13 and 14) represented the first example of geranyl guaiacylacetone ether and geranyl zingerone ether, respectively. Compounds 1, 2 and 15 exhibited anti-HBV (hepatitis B virus) activity against HBsAg (hepatitis B surface antigen) and HBeAg (hepatitis B e antigen) secretion, and HBV DNA replication.

We report the case of a 47-year-old male patient with pigmentation of the head, face and hands, who was initially diagnosed as having primary adrenal insufficiency (Addison's disease). Laboratory testing, imaging and physical examination revealed subclinical hypothyroidism, high circulating prolactin and oestradiol concentrations, gynaecomastia, lymphadenopathy, splenomegaly and weakness of both lower limbs. These findings led us to consider whether a single or multiple diseases were present in this patient. Indeed, Addison's disease can represent one aspect of a wider systemic disease. Therefore, we performed further examinations, and found high serum M protein (5.1%) and vascular endothelial growth factor [1005.30 pg/mL (normal range 0 to 142 pg/mL)] concentrations. As a consequence, we diagnosed polyneuropathy, organomegaly, endocrinopathy, monoclonal gammopathy and skin changes (POEMS) syndrome. Consequently, when a single disease cannot fully explain the multiple symptoms and signs of one patient, clinicians should consider the possibility of the presence of a wider syndrome and undertake more detailed diagnostic testing.

T2DM (Type 2 diabetes) is a complex, chronic disease characterized as insulin resistance and islet ß-cell dysfunction. Bariatric surgeries such as Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) surgery and laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG) have become part of a critical treatment regimen in the treatment of obesity and T2DM. Moreover, GLP-1 increase following bariatric surgery has been regarded as a significant event in bariatric surgery-induced remission of T2DM. In this study, a high concentration cholesterol-induced lipotoxicity was observed in INS-1 cells, including inhibited cell viability and insulin secretion. Enhanced cell apoptosis and inhibited cholesterol efflux from INS-1 cells; meanwhile, ABCA1 protein level was decreased by cholesterol stimulation. Cholesterol-induced toxicity and ABCA1 downregulation were attenuated by GLP-1 agonist EX-4. GLP-1 induced AMPK phosphorylation during the protection against cholesterol-induced toxicity. Under cholesterol stimulation, GLP-1-induced AMPK activation inhibited PARP-1 activity, therefore attenuating cholesterol-induced toxicity in INS-1 cells. In INS-1 cells, PARP-1 directly interacted with LXR, leading to the poly(ADP-ribosyl)ation of LXRα and downregulation of LXR-mediated ABCA1 expression. In the STZ-induced T2DM model in rats, RYGB surgery or EX-4 treatment improved the glucose metabolism and lipid metabolism in rats through GLP-1 inhibition of PARP-1 activity. In conclusion, GLP-1 inhibits PARP-1 to protect islet ß cell function against cholesterol-induced toxicity in vitro and in vivo through enhancing cholesterol efflux. GLP-1-induced AMPK and LXR-mediated ABCA1 expression are involved in GLP-1 protective effects.

RESUMEN

The present study explored the potential mechanism of Jingfang Granules in relieving alcohol and protecting liver by network pharmacology and molecular docking and verified the effects and related pathways by animal experiments. The active components of Jingfang Granules were retrieved from Traditional Chinese Medicine Systems Pharmacology Database and Analysis Platform(TCMSP). Targets of drugs and diseases were obtained from PubChem, Swiss Target Prediction and CTD. The common targets were uploaded to STRING to plot the protein-protein interaction(PPI) network. The core targets were screened out and the target organs were identified by Bio GPS and Metascape, followed by Gene Ontology(GO) analysis and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes(KEGG)pathway enrichment analysis of common targets. The acute drunk mouse model was established and the effects of Jingfang Granules on serum ethanol level and the expression of proteins related to the phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase(PI3 K)/protein kinase B(Akt) signaling pathway in the liver tissue of mice were observed. A total of 187 active components of Jingfang Granules were obtained, including 47 common targets with alcoholic liver injury. GO enrichment analysis and KEGG pathway analysis showed that Jingfang Granules might play the role of relieving alcohol and protecting liver through the PI3 K-Akt signaling pathway. The drug-component-target and component-target-pathway networks revealed that the important active components of Jingfang Granules in relieving alcohol and protecting liver included quercetin, 5-O-methylvisamminol, glyasperin M, glyasperin B and hederagenin. Molecular docking showed that the active components had a good affinity with AKT1, EGFR, ESR1 and PTGS2. Experimental results showed that Jingfang Granules(15 and 10. 5 g·kg-1) could significantly reduce the content of serum ethanol in mice and up-regulate the protein expression ratios of p-PI3 K/PI3 K and p-Akt/Akt in the liver tissue. Jingfang Granules could relieve alcohol and protect liver through multi-component and multitarget, and the mechanism may be related to the activation of the PI3 K-Akt signaling pathway.

This paper aimed to explore the anti-inflammatory effect of ethanol extract from Saposhnikoviae Radix in a lipopolysaccharide(LPS)-induced inflammation mouse model and its regulation of TLR4/NF-κB signaling pathway. The ethanol extract from Saposhnikoviae Radix was separated and purified on the macroporous adsorption resin and its main chemical components were identified by UPLC-QE/MS. The identification results showed that the top ten components of ethanol extract from Saposhnikoviae Radix were mainly chromones and coumarins. A mouse model of inflammation induced by intraperitoneal injection of LPS was used to investigate the anti-inflammatory effects of ethanol extract from Saposhnikoviae Radix after intragastric administration for seven successive days. Mice in all groups except for the control group were treated with intraperitoneal injection of LPS(0.015 g·kg~(-1)) one hour after the last administration, and twelve hours later, the blood was sampled and separated and the broncoalveolar lavage fluid(BALF) was collected. The levels of nitric oxide(NO), tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α), interleukin-6(IL-6), and interleukin-1β(IL-1β) in mouse serum and BALF were detected by ELISA. The harvested lung tissue was stained with hematoxylin-eosin(HE) for observing the pathological changes, followed by the detection of protein expression levels of related molecules in TLR4/NF-κB signaling pathway by Western blotting. The results showed that the ethanol extract from Saposhnikoviae Radix significantly ameliorated the pathological conditions in lung tissue of model mice, reversed the increase in NO, TNF-α, IL-6, and IL-1β levels of mouse serum and BALF, down-regulated the protein expression levels of Toll-like receptor 4(TLR4), myeloid differentiation factor(MyD88), and phosphorylated nuclear transcription factor κB-p65/nuclear transcription factor κB-p65(P-NF-κB p65/NF-κB p65), and up-regulated the NF-κB inhibitory protein α(IκBα). The ethanol extract from Saposhnikoviae Radix exhibited a good anti-inflammatory effect in the LPS-induced acute inflammation muse model, which might be related to the inhibition of the activation of TLR4/NF-κB inflammatory signaling pathway. Chromones and coumarins have been proved to be the active components for its anti-inflammatory effects.

The increased secretion of glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) after Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) is regarded as the main reason for the improvement of blood glucose. However, the single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of GLP-1 Receptor (GLP1R) impair receptor function, subsequently affecting ß cell insulin secretion function, ultimately affecting the efficacy of RYGB. In this study, we revealed that two SNPs in GLP1R gene, rs3765467 and rs10305492, could significantly reduce the insulin secreted by ß cells and the cyclic AMP concentration, whereas promote ß cell apoptosis. Under high glucose exposure, rs3765467 and rs10305492 impaired ß cell secretion of insulin and ß cell viability in the same way; in other words, GLP1R rs3765467 and rs10305492 exert an effect on pancreatic ß cell glucose-stimulated insulin secretion. Moreover, GLP-1 antagonist Exendin (9-39) further enhanced, whereas GLP-1 agonist Exendin-4 partially attenuated the effects of SNPs on the functions and apoptosis of ß cells. In conclusion, the rs3765467 and rs10305492 SNPs in GLP1R show to exert a critical effect on regulating insulin secretory capacity of ß cells and ß cell mass. Through leading to the dysfunction and apoptosis of ß cells, GLP1R rs3765467 and rs10305492 might also impair GLP-1 interaction with GLP1R, therefore attenuating the therapeutic effect of RYGB.

Background: The Chinese minimally invasive surgical robot system "Micro Hand S" was developed in 2013. However, there was no bariatric surgery performed with the "Micro Hand S" surgical robot. We first aim to report our experience with the "Micro Hand S" robotic-assisted sleeve gastrectomy and evaluate the safety and feasibility of the "Micro Hand S" surgical robot. Methods: Between March 2018 and November 2019, sleeve gastrectomies were performed with the "Micro Hand S" robotic system on 7 consecutive patients by a trained surgeon-assistant team. Preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative clinical data were collected. A questionnaire was used to investigate surgeons' satisfaction with the "Micro Hand S" robot platform. Results: All the patients underwent successful operations. There were no cases of perioperative mortality and complications. The intraoperative blood loss was 20.8 ± 3.6 mL. The average overall operating time was 166.4 ± 16.1 minutes. The weight, body mass index, waist circumference, and hip circumference decreased significantly at 3 months (all P < .01) and 6 months (all P < .01) postoperatively. The percentage excess weight loss was 62.6% ± 10.3% and 85.9% ± 13.3% at 3 and 6 months postoperatively. Surgeons were satisfied with the "Micro Hand S" surgical robot performance in sleeve gastrectomy. Eighty percent of surgeons would incline to use it again. Conclusions: The first use of the "Micro Hand S" robotic surgical platform in sleeve gastrectomy was carried out successfully. The perioperative outcomes are satisfying. Further comparative and large-sample studies are warranted to verify our preliminary outcomes.
