OBJECTIVES: To explore the effectiveness of tofacitinib for immunoglobulin G4-related disease (IgG4-RD) and idiopathic retroperitoneal fibrosis (IRF), and investigate the expression of JAKs in the lesion of these diseases. METHODS: Clinical data of patients with IgG4-RD or IRF who were administered with tofacitinib monotherapy were collected. IgG4-RD responder index (IgG4-RD RI) was assessed. The expression of JAK1, JAK2, JAK3, and TYK2 were analysed with immunohistochemistry staining in three salivary glands specimens of IgG4-RD and one retroperitoneal tissue of IRF. RESULTS: Two patients with IRF and two patients with IgG4-RD used tofacitinib monotherapy. Two patients with IRF achieved complete remission with diminished retroperitoneal mass and decreased CRP, as IgG4-RD RI decreased from 6 to 1 in both of them. One with IgG4-RD achieved complete remission with alleviated enlargement of pancreas and IgG4 level decreased from 13.7 g/L to 2.4 g/L, as IgG4-RD RI decreased from 12 to 1. One with IgG4-RD achieved partial response with IgG4 level decreased from 77.1g/L to 25.8g/L as IgG4-RD RI from 18 to 6. JAK1, JAK2, JAK3, and TYK2 expression were detected in biopsy tissues. The staining intensity of the JAK family on the lesion from one IRF patient was similar to those from IgG4-RD patients. CONCLUSIONS: Tofacitinib is a potentially effective treatment for IgG4-RD and IRF and it is reasonable to conduct clinical trial to validate its efficacy. The JAKs were expressed in the inflammatory lesions of IgG4-RD and IRF and they may share a common pathogenesis pathway that is independent of IgG4 production.

Electrical stimulation modulates cell behavior and influences bacterial activity, so highly conductive, antimicrobial hydrogels are suitable for promoting wound healing. In this study, highly conductive and antimicrobial Ti3C2Tx (MXene) hydrogels composed of chitosan and poly(vinyl alcohol) and AgCu- H2PYDC MOF were developed. In PVACS/MOF/MXene (PCMM) hydrogels, the MXene layer acts as an electrical conductor. The electrical conductivity is 0.61 ± 0.01 S·cm-1. PCMM hydrogels modulate cell behavior and provide ES antimicrobial capacity under ES at 1 V. The metal ions of MOF form coordination with chitosan molecules and increase the cross-linking density between chitosan molecules, thus improving the mechanical properties of the hydrogel (tensile strength 0.088 ± 0.04 MPa, elongation at break 233 ± 11 %). The PCMM gels had good biocompatibility. The PCMM hydrogels achieved 100 % antibacterial activity against E. coli and S. aureus for 12 h. 1 V electrical stimulation of PCMM hydrogel accelerated the wound healing process in mice by promoting cell migration and neovascularization, achieving 97 ± 0.4 % wound healing on day 14. The hydrogel dressing PCMM-0.1 with MOF addition of 0.1 % had the best wound healing promoting effect and which is a promising dressing for promoting wound healing and is a therapeutic strategy worth developing.

Background: Little is known about the correlation between nodal upstaging and pulmonary nodules classified according to the presence of solid components in the lung and mediastinal windows. This study thus aimed to analyze the risk factors of nodal upstaging and prognosis based on different imaging features, clinical characteristics, and pathological results from patients with clinical stage T1N0M0 lung adenocarcinoma. Methods: A total of 340 patients between January 2016 and June 2017 were selected from the Affiliated Hospital of Qingdao University database. Imaging features, clinical characteristics, and pathological results were collected for survival and analysis of nodal upstaging risk factors. We used logistic regression models to identify important metastatic risk factors for nodal upstaging. Survival rates were calculated using Kaplan-Meier (KM) survival curves and compared with the log-rank test. Significant prognostic risk factors were identified using the Cox proportional hazards model. Results: A total of 340 patients, with an average age of 64.89 (±8.775) years, were enrolled. Among them, nonnodal upstaging occurred both in 77 (22.6%) patients with pure ground-glass nodules (pGGNs) and in 30 (8.8%) patients with heterogenous ground-glass nodules (hGGNs). Compared to the 92 (27.1%) patients with real part-solid nodules (rPSNs), the 141 (41.5%) patients with solid nodules were significantly different in terms of in nodal upstaging (P<0.001). Moreover, preoperative carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) level >3.4 µg/L [odds ratio (OR): 2.931; 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.511-5.688; P=0.001], imaging tumor size >18.3 mm (OR, 3.482; 95% CI: 1.609-7.535; P=0.002), and consolidation tumor ratio (CTR) >0.788 (OR 8.791; 95% CI: 3.570-21.651; P<0.001) were independent risk factors for nodal upstaging. The KM survival curve results showed that patients with pGGNs and those with hGGNs had a much better 5-year disease-free survival (DFS) and 5-year overall survival (OS) than did those with rPSNs and those with solid nodules (DFS: 98.7% vs. 100% vs. 81.4% vs. 73.7%, P<0.001; OS: 97.4% vs. 100% vs. 90.2% vs. 83.7%, P=0.003). In the multivariate Cox regression analysis of patients with rPSNs and solid nodules, tumor location and pathological lymph node grade were found to be independent risk factors for DFS and OS. Conclusions: Patients with pGGNs and those with hGGNs were more likely to be free of nodal upstaging and had better prognosis than did those with clinical stage IA rPSNs and solid nodules. The patients with pGGNs or hGGNs with preoperative CEA level <3.4 µg/L, imaging tumor size <18.3 mm, and CTR <0.788 can choose systematic lymph node sampling (SLNS) or decline lymph node dissection to avoid postoperative complications.

Objective: Diffuse Large B-Cell Lymphoma (DLBCL) is a common and frequently occurring subtype of Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma (NHL). The effective treatment and prognosis of DLBCL are still urgently needed to be explored. This article aims to shed light on the connection between DLBCL survival and NR3C1 expression levels. Methods: First, we divided the 952 DLBCL patients into an NR3C1 high-expression group and an NR3C1 low-expression group and compared the baseline characteristics of the two groups. Second, we used multivariate analysis to predict the dependent variable for age, pathology, ECOG score, lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) ratio, and NR3C1 expression level. Finally, we analyzed the progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival rate (OS) of DLBCL patients with high or low NR3C1 expression. Results: DLBCL patients with high NR3C1 expression had a better prognosis than those with low NR3C1 expression (OS, P < 0.0001). In DLBCL patients of CHOP therapy, high NR3C1 expression was associated with a good survival prognosis in OS (OS, P = 0.028). Conclusion: In multivariate analysis, NR3C1 high expression was an independent prognostic factor that predicted a longer OS of DLBCL (OS, P = 0.0003). NR3C1 is considered an independent predictor of DLBCL patients and can be used as a biomarker for the prognosis of DLBCL.

BACKGROUND: Lung large cell neuroendocrine carcinoma (LCNEC) is a rare and highly malignant lung tumor with a poor prognosis. Currently, most research on LCNEC is based on retrospective studies and lacks validation in the real world. The study aims to identify independent risk factors and establish and validate a predictive model for the prognosis of LCNEC. METHODS: Patient data were extracted from Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) and our department's hospitalization records from 2010 to 2015 and 2016 to 2020, respectively. Kaplan-Meier analysis was used to evaluate overall survival (OS). OS is defined as the time from diagnosis to death or last follow-up for a patient. Univariate and multivariate Cox regression analyses were performed to identify significant prognostic factors and construct a Nomogram for predicting the prognosis of LCNEC. RESULTS: In total, 1892 LCNEC patients were included and divided into a training cohort (n=1288) and two validation cohorts (n=552, n=52). Univariate Cox regression analysis showed that age, gender, primary tumor site, laterality, T stage, N stage, M stage, surgery, and radiotherapy were factors that could affect the prognosis of LCNEC patients (P<0.05). Multivariate Cox analysis indicated that age, gender, primary tumor site, T stage, N stage, M stage, surgery, and radiotherapy were independent risk factors for the prognosis of LCNEC patients (P<0.05). Calibration curves and the concordance index (internal: 0.744±0.015; external: 0.763±0.020, 0.832±0.055) demonstrated good predictive performance of the model. CONCLUSIONS: Patients aged ≥65 years, male, with advanced tumor-node-metastasis (TNM) staging, and who have not undergone surgery or radiotherapy have a poor prognosis. Nomogram can provide a certain reference for personalized clinical decision-making for patients.

Background: Brain metastasis (BM) represents one of the most common advanced disease states in breast cancer (BC), especially in human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2)-positive BC, and is associated with poor survival outcomes. Methods: In this study, in-depth analysis of the microarray data from the GSE43837 dataset with 19 BM samples of HER2-positive BC patients and 19 HER2-positive nonmetastatic primary BC samples was conducted. The differentially expressed genes (DEGs) between BM and primary BC samples were identified and function enrichment analysis of the DEGs was conducted to identify potential biological functions. The hub genes were identified by constructing the protein-protein interaction (PPI) network using STRING and Cytoscape. UALCAN and Kaplan-Meier plotter online tools were used to verify the clinical roles of the hub DEGs in HER2-positive BC with BM (BCBM). Results: A total of 1,056 DEGs including 767 downregulated and 289 upregulated genes were identified by comparing the microarray data of the HER2-positive BM and primary BC samples. Functional enrichment analysis demonstrated that the DEGs were mainly enriched in pathways related to extracellular matrix (ECM) organization, cell adhesion, and collagen fibril organization. PPI network analysis identified 14 hub genes. Among these, CD44, COL1A2, MMP14, POSTN, and SOX9 were associated with the survival outcomes of HER2-positive patients. Conclusions: In summary, 5 BM-specific hub genes were identified in the study; those are potential prognostic biomarkers and therapeutic targets for HER2-positive BCBM patients. However, further investigations are necessary to unravel the mechanisms by which these 5 hub genes regulate BM in HER2-positive BC.

Artificial manipulation of charge separation and transfer are central issues dominating hydrogen evolution reaction triggered via photocatalysis. Herein, through elaborate designing on the architecture, band alignment, and interface bonding mode, a sulfur vacancy-rich ZnIn2S4-based (Vs-ZIS) multivariate heterostructure ZnIn2S4/MoSe2/In2Se3 (Vs-ZIS/MoSe2/In2Se3) with specific Janus Z-scheme charge transfer mechanism is constructed through a two-step hydrothermal process. Steering by the Janus Z-scheme charge transfer mechanism, photogenerated electrons in the conduction band of MoSe2 transfer synchronously to the valence band of Vs-ZIS and In2Se3, resulting in abundant highly-active photogenerated electrons reserved in the conduction band of Vs-ZIS and In2Se3, therefore significantly enhancing the photocatalytic activity of hydrogen evolution. Under visible light irradiation, the optimized Vs-ZIS/MoSe2/In2Se3 with the mass ratio of MoSe2 and In2Se3 to ZnIn2S4 at 3 % and 30 %, respectively, performs a high hydrogen evolution rate of 124.42 mmol·g-1·h-1, about 43.5-folds of the original ZIS photocatalyst. Besides, an apparent quantum efficiency (AQE) of 22.5 % at 420 nm and favorable durability are also achieved over Vs-ZIS/MoSe2/In2Se3 photocatalyst. This work represents an important development in efficient photocatalysts and donates a sound foundation for the design of regulating charge transfer pathways.

BACKGROUND: Nearly half of adult acute myeloid leukemia (AML) patients were classified into cytogenetic normal acute myeloid leukemia (CN-AML). The expression level of Trophinin associated protein (TROAP) was proven to be associated with the prognosis of several cancers, but it is still unclear in the prognosis of patients with CN-AML. METHODS: We integrated CN-AML patient samples from 4 datasets to analyze the relationship between TROAP expression and the survival of CN-AML. In addition, we investigated 92 AML patients of The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database to analyze the relationship between TROAP expression and the survival of AML patients received chemotherapy. We investigated the relationship between the expression of TROAP and drug sensitivity in AML cell lines. RESULTS: CN-AML patients with high TROAP expression were related to good event-free survival (EFS) and overall survival (OS). In AML patients received chemotherapy, high TROAP expression was associated with good survival prognosis. Additionally, the expression of TROAP gene in leukemia stem cells (LSC) + group was lower. Among multiple drugs, the lower the expression of TROAP, the lower the IC50. CONCLUSION: TROAP could serve as an independent predictor of CN-AML patients and could act as a potential biomarker for the prognosis of CN-AML. TROAP expression levels were closely correlated with the drug sensitivity of multiple drugs.

Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is malignant clonal expansion of myeloid blasts with high heterogeneity and numerous molecular biomarkers have been found to judge the prognosis in some specific classifications of AML. Furthermore, as for patients with cytogenetically normal acute myeloid leukemia (CN-AML), we need to find more new biomarkers to predict the patients' outcomes. Recently, the expression level of Neuronal Calcium Sensor 1 (NCS1) has been associated with the prognosis of breast cancer and hepatocellular carcinoma, but nothing related has been reported about hematological malignancies. Therefore, we make this study to explore the relationship between the NCS1 expression level and CN-AML. We analyzed the relation between survival and NCS1 RNA expression through 75 CN-AML patients from Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database and 433 CN-AML patients (3 independent datasets) from Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database. Additionally, we compared the NCS1 RNA expression between 138 leukemia stem cells positive (LSCs+) samples and 89 leukemia stem cells negative (LSCs-) samples from 78 AML patients from GSE76004 dataset. In our study, CN-AML patients with high expression level of NCS1 have longer EFS or OS. In addition, the NCS1 expression level in leukemia stem cells was low (p = 0.00039). According to these findings, we concluded that the high expression of NCS1 can predict favorable prognosis in CN-AML patients. Furthermore, our work put forward that NCS1 expresses lower in LSCs+, which might be an important mechanism to explain the aggressiveness of AML.

BACKGROUND: Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is a significantly heterogeneous malignancy of the blood. Cytogenetic abnormalities are crucial for the prognosis of AML. However, since more than half of patients with AML are cytogenetically normal AML (CN-AML), predictive prognostic indicators need to be further refined. In recent years, gene abnormalities are considered to be strong prognostic factors of CN-AML, already having clinical significance for treatment. In addition, the relationship of methylation in some genes and AML prognosis predicting has been discovered. RASGEF1A is a guanine nucleotide exchange factors of Ras and widely expressed in brain tissue, bone marrow and 17 other tissues. RASGEF1A has been reported to be associated with a variety of malignant tumors, examples include Hirschsprung disease, renal cell carcinoma, breast cancer, diffuse large B cell lymphoma, intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma and so on [1, 2]. However, the relationship between the RASGEF1A gene and CN-AML has not been reported. METHODS: By integrating the Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database 75 patients with CN-AML and 240 Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database CN-AML samples, we examined the association between RASGEF1A's RNA expression level and DNA methylation of and AML patients' prognosis. Then, we investigated the RASGEF1A RNA expression and DNA methylation's prognostic value in 77 patients with AML after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (Allo-HSCT) as well as 101 AML patients after chemotherapy respectively. We investigated the association between sensitivity to Crenolanib and expression level of RASGED1A in patients by integrating 191 CN-AML patients from BeatAML dadataset. We integrated the expression and methylation of RASGEF1A to predict the CN-AML patients' prognosis and investigated the relationship between prognostic of AML patients with different risk classification and expression levels or methylation levels of RASGEF1A. RESULTS: We found that RASGEF1A gene high expression group predicted poorer event-free survival (EFS) (P< 0.0001) as well as overall survival (OS) (P< 0.0001) in CN-AML samples, and the identical results were found in AML patients receiving chemotherapy (P< 0.0001) and Allo-HSCT (P< 0.0001). RASGEF1A RNA expression level is an CN-AML patients' independent prognostic factor (EFS: HR = 5.5534, 95% CI: 1.2982-23.756, P= 0.0208; OS: HR = 5.3615, 95% CI: 1.1014-26.099, P= 0.0376). The IC50 (half maximal inhibitory concentration) of Crenolanib of CN-AML samples with RASGEF1A high expression level is lower. In addition, patients with high RASGEF1A methylation level had significant favorable prognosis (EPS: P< 0.0001, OS: P< 0.0001). Furthermore, the integrative analysis of expression and methylation of RASGEF1A could classify CN-AML patients into subgroups with different prognosis (EFS: P= 0.034, OS: P= 0.0024). Expression levels or methylation levels of RASGEF1A help to improve risk classification of 2010 European Leukemia Net. CONCLUSION: Higher RASGEF1A RNA expression and lower DNA methylation predicts CN-AML patients' poorer prognosis. The RASGEF1A high expression level from patients with CN-AML have better sensitivity to Crenolanib. The integrative analysis of RASGEF1A RNA expression and DNA methylation can provide a more accurate classification for prognosis. Lower RASGEF1A expression is a favorable prognostic factor for AML patients receiving chemotherapy or Allo-HSCT. 2010 European Leukemia Net's risk classification can be improved by RASGEF1A expression levels or methylation levels.

In this paper, a mold electromagnetic stirring (M-EMS) model was established to investigate the behavior of M-EMS for round bloom castings under different conditions, and an electromagnetic-flow-heat transfer-solidification coupling model was established to explore the problem of eccentric stirring for various formats of round blooms. The results show that the magnetic flux density decreased with the increase in the current frequency, but the electromagnetic torque increases first and then decreases with it, and the same structure of M-EMS for round blooms has the same optimal current frequency at any current intensity. The electromagnetic torque and electromagnetic force both increase as a quadratic function of the current intensity, and the electromagnetic torque, which drives the steel flow, can directly characterize the real M-EMS performance. The mold copper tube has a significant magnetic shielding effect on M-EMS, the stirring intensity decreases rapidly as the tube thickness increases, and the optimal stirring frequency decreases as well. In fact, the deviation between the stirrer center and the geometric center of the strand can result in the eccentric stirring phenomenon. When blooms with a section size of Φ350 mm are produced by Φ650 mm SMS-Concast casting machine, the upper region of the inner arc side and the lower region of the outer arc side are subject to a stronger washing effect, which makes the temperature of the inner and outer arcs show alternating differences. The jet flow from the five-port nozzle can suppress the difference in initial solidification symmetry between the inner and outer arcs of round blooms caused by eccentric stirring. This paper reveals the magnetic shielding effect of the mold copper tube and the magnetic field loss of the air between the stirrer and the inner and outer arcs of the copper, which lead to the stirring intensity and the eccentric stirring phenomenon.

Localization is a keystone for a robot to work within its environment and with other robots. There have been many methods used to solve this problem. This paper deals with the use of beacon-based localization to answer the research question: Can ultra-wideband technology be used to effectively localize a robot with sensor fusion? This paper has developed an innovative solution for creating a sensor fusion platform that uses ultra-wideband communication as a localization method to allow an environment to be perceived and inspected in three dimensions from multiple perspectives simultaneously. A series of contributions have been presented, supported by an in-depth literature review regarding topics in this field of knowledge. The proposed method was then designed, built, and tested successfully in two different environments exceeding its required tolerances. The result of the testing and the ideas formulated throughout the paper were discussed and future work outlined on how to build upon this work in potential academic papers and projects.

42Sp50 is an isoform of the eukaryotic translation elongation factor 1 A (eEF1A) and is vital for fish ovarian development. Spotted scat (Scatophagus argus) is a popular marine cultured fish species in Southern Asia and China, and its artificial reproduction is complicated, with a relatively low success ratio in practice. In this study, the 42Sp50 gene was cloned from spotted scat. Tissue distribution analysis showed that 42Sp50 was mainly expressed in the ovary. qRT-PCR showed that 42Sp50 expression levels gradually decreased insignificantly in the ovaries from phase II to IV. Western blot analysis showed that 42Sp50 was highly expressed in the ovary, while it was almost undetectable in the testis. Immunohistochemistry analysis stained 42Sp50 mainly in the cytoplasm of the previtellogenic oocytes in ovaries of normal XX-female and sex-reversed XY-female. Aside from fish and amphibians, 42Sp50 was also identified in some reptile species using genomic database searching. Analyses of the transcriptome data from four different fish species (Hainan medaka (Oryzias curvinotus), silver sillago (Sillago sihama), Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus), and Hong Kong catfish (Clarias fuscus)) revealed ovaries biased expression of 42Sp50 in all, similar to spotted scat. While the neighbor genes of 42Sp50 did not show ovary biased expression in the fish species analyzed. Bisulfite Sequencing PCR (BSP) results showed that the DNA methylation level of 42Sp50 promoter was low in ovaries, testes, and muscles. The luciferase reporter assay demonstrated that Dmrt4 activated 42Sp50 expression in the presence of Sf1 or Foxh1. These results suggest that 42Sp50 may be involved in regulating the early phase oocytes development of spotted scat.

Megakaryocytes (MK) are mainly derived from bone marrow and are mainly involved in platelet production. Studies have shown that MK derived from bone marrow may have immune function, and that MK from peripheral blood are associated with prostate cancer. Single-cell transcriptome sequencing can help us better understand the heterogeneity and potential function of MK cell populations in bone marrow (BM), peripheral Blood (PB), and cord blood (CB) of healthy and diseased people.We integrated more than 1.2 million single-cell transcriptome data from 132 samples of PB, BM, and CB from healthy individuals and patients from different dataset. We examined the MK (including MK and product of MK) by single-cell RNA sequencing data analysis methods and identification of MK-related protein expression by the Human Protein atlas. We investigate the relationship between the MK subtype and Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC) in 77 non-cancer and 402 NSCLC. We found that MK were widely distributed and the amount of MK in peripheral blood was more than that in bone marrow and there were specificity MK subtypes in peripheral blood. We found classical MK1 with typical MK characteristics and non-classical MK2 closely related to immunity which was the most common subtype in bone marrow and cord blood. Classical MK1 was closely related to Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC) and can be used as a diagnostic marker. MK2 may have potential adaptive immune function and play a role in tumor NSCLC and autoimmune diseases Systemic Lupus Erythematosus. MK have 14 subtypes and are widely distributed in PB, CB, and BM. MK subtypes are closely related to immunity and have potential to be a diagnostic indicator of NSCLC.

More extensive attention has been garnered about the H2O2 electroproduction via two-electron oxygen reduction reaction (2e- ORR). Aiming to develop a more active, more selective and more stable catalyst, herein we reported an unconventional raw metal-organic gels (MOGs) toward this process. This pioneering work, by ingeniously designing and altering the precursor ligands, achieving precisely controlling the number of oxygen groups (OGs). By elaborately comparing more than 70 samples, uncovered the significance that OGs could sufficiently promote the selectivity for H2O2 electrochemical synthesis through the two-electron pathway (realizing enhancement more than 20% in this work). The most potential Fe0.1Co0.9 MOG (H6L), performing an onset potential of 0.76 V (low overpotential), a high selectivity up to 93% ranging 0.15 V to 0.65 V (large voltage window) and 2.1 electron transfer number (implying the 2e- process dominate). This study, unlike other oxidation treatment, through the precise regulation of precursors, further confirmed the feasibility of oxygen-containing functional groups (OGs) tailoring strategy, providing a possibility for low-cost and efficient potential candidate of 2e- ORR.

With the rapid consumption of traditional fossil energy, the utilization of solar energy via photothermal conversion to obtain fresh water from seawater or wastewater should be a promising alternative to solve the shortage of energy resources. At present, evaporators based on diverse photothermal conversion materials have been developed, but most of them are still facing the drawbacks of complicated structure, complex preparation and poor salt resistance, which severely affect their broad practical applications. Multilayer-MXene (mMXene) and polydopamine (PDA) nanoparticles are two kinds of materials with excellent photothermal conversion efficiency. In this study, we loaded these two materials with optimized mass ratio into the thermally insulated and low-cost melamine foam, followed by simple annealing treatment to afford three-dimensional and self-floating carbonized MXene/PDA foam (CMPF) evaporators with high hydrophilicity, unpleasant thermal conductivity, and remarkable light absorbance. The evaporation rate of CMPF, as a result, could attain 1.598 kg m-2 h-1 under 1 sun (1 kW m-2) irradiation while the photothermal conversion efficiency is calculated to be 89.8%. In addition, CMPF-2 displays excellent desalination ability, self-desalination ability, good cycle stability and reliable safety performance as revealed by bacterial culture experiment. Combining these advantages, it has been revealed that CMPF-2 possesses certain feasible practical applications in seawater desalination.

There are still great challenges to prepare high-efficiency Ru-based catalysts that are superior to Pt/C under acidic conditions, especially under high current conditions. In this work, a series of surfactant-free noble metal doped Ru/CNT (M-Ru/CNT, M = Pt, Rh, Pd, Ir, CNT stands for carbon nanotube) are prepared by microwave reduction method in 1 minute with ≈3-3.5 nm in size for the first time. In 0.5 m H2 SO4 , the overpotential of Pt-Ru/CNT (Pt: 4.94 at %) is only 12 mV. What's more, it also has much larger electrochemical surface area and intrinsic activity than Pt/C. Pt-Ru/CNT still has an ultra-small overpotential under high current density (113 mV at 500 mA cm-2 , 155 mV at 1000 mA cm-2 ). At the same time, it possesses excellent stability regardless of high current or low current after the durability test of 100 h. Theoretical calculation also deeply reveals that Ru is the main adsorption site of H+ . The comparison of the electronic structure of a series of noble metals adjusted by Ru shows that Pt has the most excellent Gibbs free energy of the adsorbed hydrogen and promotes the desorption of the product.

Photocatalytic water-splitting employing the Z-scheme semiconductor systems mimicking natural photosynthesis is regarded as a promising way to achieve efficient soalr-to-H2 conversion. Nevertheless, it still remains a big challenge to design high-performance direct Z-scheme photocatalysts without the use of noble metals as electron mediators. Herein, a unique Cd0.5Zn0.5S/WO3-x direct Z-scheme heterojunction was constructed for the first time, which consisted of smaller O-vacancy-decorated WO3-x nanocrystals anchoring on Cd0.5Zn0.5S nanocrystals with S vacancies and zinc blende/wurtzite (ZB/WZ) twinning superlattices. Under visible-light (λ > 420 nm) irradiation, the Cd0.5Zn0.5S/WO3-x composites exhibited an outstanding H2 evolution reaction (HER) activity of 20.50 mmol h-1 g-1 (corresponding to the apparent quantum efficiency of 18.0% at 420 nm), which is much superior to that of WO3-x, Cd0.5Zn0.5S, and Cd0.5Zn0.5S loaded with Pt. Interestingly, the introduced O and S vacancies contributed to improving the HER activity of Cd0.5Zn0.5S/WO3-x significantly. Moreover, the cycling and long-term HER measurements confirmed the robust photocatalytic stability of Cd0.5Zn0.5S/WO3-x for H2 production. The excellent light harvesting and efficient spatial charge separation induced by the ZB/WZ twinning homojunctions and defect-promoted direct Z-scheme charge-transfer pathway are responsible for the exceptional HER capability. Our study could enlighten the rational engineering and optimization of semiconductor nanostructures for energy and environmental applications.

The difficulty to achieve rapid detection is the limitation of many enzyme-free sensors today. Thus, designing tri-functionalsensors with ultra-fast and efficientdeterminationis a challenging taskin biological science. Herein, curly fish scales-like Ni2.5Mo6S6.7 active materials was anchored on poly (3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene)-reduced graphene oxide (PEDOT-rGO) hybrid membranes with uneven surface (Ni2.5Mo6S6.7/PEDOT-rGO) as a high-performance tri-functional catalyst for glucose, nitrite and hydrogen peroxide determination.The sensor constructed under optimal conditions exhibited ultrafast response performance towards glucose and nitrite within 2 s, and hydrogen peroxide within 1 s. Meanwhile, it provided the wide linear range with a low detection limit towards glucose (as low as 0.001 mM and up to 15.000 mM, and 0.33 µM), nitrite (as low as 0.001 mM and up to 10.000 mM, and 0.33 µM) and hydrogen peroxide (from 0.010 mM to 7.000 mM, and 0.79 µM), respectively. In addition, the sensor demonstrated satisfied selectivity, repeatability, reproducibility and stability. Furthermore, the sensor has potential application in real samples. This study may provide a new strategy for the construction of tri-functional electrode materials with the ultra-fast response.

Using styrene as a proxy for VOCs, a new method was developed to remove styrene gas in nitrogen atmospheres. The effect on the styrene removal efficiency was explored by varying parameters within the continuum dynamic experimental setup, such as ferrous ion concentration, hydrogen peroxide concentration, and pH values. The by-products are quantized by a TOC analyzer. The optimal process conditions were hydrogen peroxide at 20 mmol/L, ferrous ions at 0.3 mmol/L and pH 3, resulting in an average styrene removal efficiency of 96.23%. In addition, in this study, we construct a BAS-BP neural network model with experimental data as a sample training set, which boosts the goodness-of-fit of the BP neural network and is able to tentatively predict styrene gas residuals for different front-end conditions.
