RESUMEN

In recent years, aggregation-induced emission luminogens (AIEgens) have witnessed numerous groundbreaking advances in fundamental theoretical research and functional applications. Notably, stimuli-responsive AIEgens have achieved remarkable results, demonstrating immense potential for application in various fields such as chemistry, materials science, biology, and medicine. Herein, two multi-stimuli-responsive cyanostilbene derivatives TPE-CNTPA and PH-CNTPA were synthesized by introducing tetraphenylethylene (TPE) and trifluoromethyl groups, respectively. Primarily, under the combined mechanism of aggregation-induced emission (AIE) and twisted intramolecular charge transfer (TICT), TPE-CNTPA and PH-CNTPA exhibit "on-off-on" fluorescent emission characteristics in solution. Secondly, under 365 nm ultraviolet light irradiation, the photo-induced isomerization of PH-CNTPA causes changes in photophysical property, demonstrating its responsiveness to ultraviolet light. In addition, TPE-CNTPA and PH-CNTPA exhibit high-contrast mechanochromic properties, providing broader possibilities for their potential applications in various fields. Moreover, owing to the unique fluorescence emission characteristics, TPE-CNTPA and PH-CNTP have enormous potential for application in the field of encryption anti-counterfeiting. Besides, PH-CNTPA can be utilized for the detection of trace water in single or mixed solvents, demonstrating outstanding sensitivity and anti-interference properties in different solvents. This research work reveals the potential in the fields of water sensing and anti-counterfeiting for these two multi-stimuli-responsive compounds.

Trypsin is one of the most diverse and widely studied protease hydrolases. However, the diversity and characteristics of the Trypsin superfamily of genes have not been well understood, and their role in insecticide resistance is yet to be investigated. In this study, a total of 342 Trypsin genes were identified and classified into seven families based on homology, characteristic domains and phylogenetics in Anopheles sinensis, and the LY-Domain and CLECT-Domain families are specific to the species. Four Trypsin genes, (Astry2b, Astry43a, Astry90, Astry113c) were identified to be associated with pyrethroid resistance based on transcriptome analyses of three field resistant populations and qRT-PCR validation, and the knock-down of these genes significantly decrease the pyrethroid resistance of Anopheles sinensis based on RNAi. The activity of Astry43a can be reduced by five selected insecticides (indoxacarb, DDT, temephos, imidacloprid and deltamethrin); and however, the Astry43a could not directly metabolize these five insecticides, like the trypsin NYD-Tr did in earlier reports. This study provides the overall information frame of Trypsin genes, and proposes the role of Trypsin genes to insecticide resistance. Further researches are necessary to investigate the metabolism function of these trypsins to insecticides.

Wastewater reclaim in industrial parks can effectively reduce the dependence on external water resources, few literatures evaluated the reclaim system from perspectives of economy, technology, and environmental impact. It is very popular across China that a constructed wetland is linked with a wastewater plant and then discharged the tailwater into surface waters, based on current situation, pilot experiment, and other available techniques, six scenarios for wastewater reclaim system were designed for Shanghai Chemical Industrial Park. Using life cycle assessment, it was found that in scenario of pilot experiment, most environmental impact was derived from wastewater plant and ultra filtration - reverse osmosis, in which ultra filtration - reverse osmosis accounted >20 % for POCP, AP, and EP, Wastewater plant accounted >86 % for ADP, ODP. It was showed that electricity and sludge were most important parameters affecting LCA, when electricity consumption was reduced by 20 %, total standardized environmental impact would be changed in the range of 1.40 %-1.65 %, the most significant change was HTP (6.12 %-6.32 %) when 20 % up and downward change in sludge amount, followed by MAETP (5.27 %-5.36 %). A multi-criteria decision-making analysis was conducted on all the scenarios based on environmental impact, life cycle cost, technical efficiency, it was showed that the scenario designed for pilot experiment was the best available technique, which was consisted of wastewater plant, hybrid constructed wetland, ultra-filtration and reverse osmosis, and reused as desalted water. A wastewater reclaim plant is suggested from the result of this paper. It was believed that this study could provide references for construction of wastewater reclaim system in industrial parks of the world.

Background and purpose: Significant differences in the outcomes observed in patients with acute ischemic stroke (AIS) have led to research investigations for identifying the predictors. In this retrospective study, we aimed to investigate the relationship of different clinical and imaging factors with the prognosis of AIS. Materials and methods: All clinical and imaging metrics were compared between the good and poor prognosis groups according to the modified Rankin Scale (mRS) score at 90 days after discharge. Clinical factors included gender, age, NIHSS scores at admission, and other medical history risk factors. Imaging markers included the lesion's size and location, diffusion, and perfusion metrics of infarction core and peripheral regions, and the state of collateral circulation. Spearman's correlations were analyzed for age and imaging markers between the different groups. The Chi-square test and Cramer's V coefficient analysis were performed for gender, collateral circulation status, NIHSS score, and other stroke risk factors. Results: A total of 89 patients with AIS were divided into the good (mRS score ≤ 2) and poor prognosis groups (mRS score ≥ 3). There were differences in NIHSS score at the admission; relative MK (rMK), relative MD (rMD), relative CBF (rCBF) of the infarction core; relative mean transit time (rMTT), relative time to peak (rTTP), and relative CBF (rCBF) of peripheral regions; and collateral circulation status between the two groups (p < 0.05). Among them, the rMK of infarction lesions had the strongest correlation with the mRS score at 90 days after discharge (r = 0.545, p < 0.001). Conclusion: Perfusion and diffusion metrics could reflect the microstructure and blood flow characteristics of the lesion, which were the key factors for the salvage ability and prognosis of the infarction tissue. The characteristics of the infarction core and peripheral regions have different effects on the outcomes. Diffusion of infarction core has strong relations with the prognosis, whereas the time metrics (MTT, TTP) were more important for peripheral regions. MK had a more significant association with prognosis than MD. These factors were the primary markers influencing the prognosis of cerebral infarction patients.

Nano pesticides offer an effective means of improving the bioavailability of pesticide due to their excellent solubility and wettability, superior foliar adhesion, and permeability to target insects. By using high-speed homogenization and ultrasonic dispersion technology, an emamectin-sodium alginate nano-formulation (EB@SA) with a particle size ranging from 30 to 50 nm was successfully fabricated using electrostatic self-assembly. The microscopic morphology and structure of EB@SA were further analyzed through transmission electron microscopy, dynamic light scattering, infrared spectroscopy, and 1H NMR. The photolysis resistance behavior of EB@SA demonstrated an improved anti-photolysis ability more than double that of conventional formulations while also exhibiting good sustained-release properties. Not only does EB@SA maintain the inherent insecticidal toxicity of emamectin benzoate (EB), but it also significantly prolongs its insecticidal duration. At a concentration of 20 mg/L, the lethality rate against Armyworms remains above 70 % over a period of 16 days compared to <50 % for general emamectin emulsifiable concentrate. Furthermore, EB@SA greatly enhances the systemic translocation of EB in corn plants by exhibiting favorable bidirectional systemic translocation characteristics. This research presents an efficient and environmentally friendly pesticide nano-formulation that can be effectively utilized for field pest control.

Filamentous fungi produce several beneficial secondary metabolites, including bioactive compounds, food additives, and biofuels. Trichoderma, which is a teleomorphic Hypocrea that falls under the taxonomic groups Ascomycota and Dikarya, is an extensively studied fungal genus. In an ongoing study that seeks to discover bioactive natural products, we investigated potential bioactive metabolites from the methanolic extract of cultured Trichoderma gamsii. Using liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS), one major compound was isolated and structurally identified as 6-pentyl-α-pyrone (6PP) based on nuclear magnetic resonance data and LC-MS analysis. To determine its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity, as well as the underlying mechanisms, we treated lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-stimulated Raw264.7 mouse macrophages with 6PP. We found that 6PP suppresses LPS-induced increase in the levels of nitric oxide, a mediator of oxidative stress and inflammation, and restores LPS-mediated depletion of total glutathione by stabilizing nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2), an antioxidative factor, and elevating heme oxygenase-1 levels. Furthermore, 6PP inhibited LPS-induced production of proinflammatory cytokines, which are, at least in part, regulated by heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1). 6PP suppressed proinflammatory responses by inhibiting the nuclear localization of nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB), as well as by dephosphorylating the mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPKs). These results indicate that 6PP can protect macrophages against oxidative stress and LPS-induced excessive inflammatory responses by activating the Nrf2/HO-1 pathway while inhibiting the proinflammatory, NF-κB, and MAPK pathways.

OBJECTIVES: The CHRNΑ5 gene, which encodes the α5-nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (α5-nAChR), is related to lung cancer and nicotine addiction. Smoking is closely related to the immunosuppressive effect of macrophages. CD47, a phagocytosis checkpoint in macrophages, is a therapeutic target in various cancer types. Nevertheless, the relationship between α5-nAChR and CD47 in lung cancer is still unclear. METHODS AND RESULTS: The present study showed that α5-nAChR-mediated CD47 expression via STAT3 signaling, consequently leading to tumor progression and immune suppression in lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD). α5-nAChR expression was correlated with STAT3 expression, CD47 expression, smoking status and poor prognosis of LUAD in vivo. In vitro, α5-nAChR expression mediated the phosphorylation of STAT3, and phosphorylated STAT3 bound to the CD47 promoter and mediated CD47 expression. Downregulation of α5-nAChR and/or CD47 significantly reduced cell proliferation, migration, invasion, stemness and IL-10 expression, but increased TNF-α expression and phagocytosis of macrophages in LUAD. Furthermore, α5-nAChR/CD47 signaling contributed to the growth of subcutaneous xenograft tumors and liver metastasis of tumors in mice. CONCLUSION: The α5-nAChR/STAT3/CD47 axis contributed to the progression and immune escape of lung cancer and may be a potential target for LUAD immunotherapy.

Introduction: Adverse abiotic environmental conditions including excess salt in the soil, constantly challenge plants and disrupt the function of plants, even inflict damage on plants. Salt stress is one of the major limiting factors for agricultural productivity and severe restrictions on plant growth. One of the critical ways to improve plant salt tolerance is halotolerant bacteria application. However, few such halotolerant bacteria were known and should be explored furtherly. Methods: Halophilic bacterium strain was isolated from saline soil with serial dilution and identified with classical bacteriological tests and 16S rRNA analysis. Perennial ryegrass (Lolium perenne L) was used in this study to evaluate the potential effect of the bacteria. Results and discussion: A halophilic bacterium strain GDHT17, was isolated from saline soil, which grows in the salinities media with 1.0%, 5.0%, and 10.0% (w/v) NaCl, and identified as Gracilibacillus dipsosauri. Inoculating GDHT17 can significantly promote ryegrass's seedling height and stem diameter and increase the root length, diameter, and surface area at different salt concentrations, indicating the significant salt stress alleviating effect of GDHT17 on the growth of ryegrass. The alleviating effect on roots growth showed more effective, especially on the root length, which increased significantly by 26.39%, 42.59%, and 98.73% at salt stress of 100 mM, 200 mM, and 300 mM NaCl when the seedlings were inoculated with GDHT17. Inoculating GDHT17 also increases perennial ryegrass biomass, water content, chlorophyll and carotenoid content under salt stress. The contents of proline and malonaldehyde in the seedlings inoculated with GDHT17 increased by 83.50% and 6.87%, when treated with 300 mM NaCl; however, the contents of MDA and Pro did not show an apparent effect under salt stress of 100 mM or 200 mM NaCl. GDHT17-inoculating maintained the Na+/K+ ratio in the salt-stressed ryegrass. The Na+/K+ ratio decreased by 26.52%, 6.89%, and 29.92% in the GDHT17-inoculated seedling roots treated with 100 mM, 200 mM, and 300 mM NaCl, respectively. The GDHT17-inoculating increased the POD and SOD activity of ryegrass seedlings by 25.83% and 250.79%, respectively, at a salt stress of 300 mM NaCl, indicating the properties of GDHT17, improving the activity of antioxidant enzymes of ryegrass at the salt-stress condition. Our results suggest that G. dipsosauri GDHT17 may alleviate salt stress on ryegrass in multiple ways; hence it can be processed into microbial inoculants to increase salt tolerance of ryegrass, as well as other plants in saline soil.

Fractional carbon dioxide (CO2) laser combined with subcision has been widely used for the clinical treatment, but the efficacy of the combined therapy on three types of atrophic acne scars remains unreported. This retrospective study analyzed the clinical data of 413 patients with atrophic acne scars, treated with fractional CO2 laser combined with subcision in the combined group and with fractional CO2 laser in the control group. The treatment efficacy was evaluated by the Investigator's Global Assessment (IGA) and the Échelle d'évaluation clinique des cicatrices d'acné (ECCA). We reported adverse reactions such as erythema, lump, skin sensitivity, acne recurrence, and hyperpigmentation that occurred in both treatment groups. The treatment efficiency of the combined group was significantly higher than that of the control group (P < 0.001). Among the three subtypes of atrophic acne scars, the ECCA scores in the combined group of boxcar-type and rolling-type scars after treatment were lower than those in the control group (P = 0.041, P < 0.001, respectively), and no statistical difference in scores between the two groups for icepick-type scars was seen (P = 0.062). There was no statistical difference in adverse reactions between the two groups (P = 0.361). Fractional CO2 laser combined with subcision is more effective than fractional CO2 laser in the treatment of boxcar-type and rolling-type scars, but there is no significant difference in the treatment of icepick-type scars.

Paenibacillus polymyxa is a plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) that has significant biocontrol properties. Wheat sheath blight caused by Rhizoctonia cerealis is a significant soil-borne disease of wheat that causes significant losses in wheat production, and the biological control against the disease has received extensive attention. P. polymyxa ZYPP18 was identified using morphological and molecular characterization. An antagonistic activity experiment verified that ZYPP18 inhibits the growth of R. cerealis on artificial growth media. A detached leaf assay verified that ZYPP18 inhibits the expansion of wheat sheath blight on the detached leaf. ZYPP18 has been found to possess plant growth-promoting properties, as well as the ability to solubilize phosphate and generate indole-3-acetic acid. Results from hydroponic experiments showed that wheat seedlings treated with ZYPP18 grew faster. Additionally, pot experiments and field experiments demonstrated that ZYPP18 effectively controls the occurrence of wheat sheath blight. ZYPP18 reduced the incidence of wheat sheath blight in wheat seedlings by 37.37% and 37.90%, respectively. The control effect of ZYPP18 on wheat sheath blight was 56.30% and 65.57%, respectively. These findings provide evidence that P. polymyxa ZYPP18 is an effective biological factor that can control disease and promote plant growth.

Passion fruit (Passilora edulis, family Passifloraceae.) is an economically important fruit crop in many tropical and subtropical regions worldwide. It is widely planting in southern China, and in greenhouses throughout the country. In Mar 2022, symptoms of a viral-like infection were observed on the leaves of passion fruit plants in a 3-hectare greenhouse complex in Hohhot, China. Chlorotic lesions were observed on leaves of two vines of passion fruit and symptomatic leaves developed chlorotic spots, followed by systemic leaf chlorosis and necrosis. Dark ringed spots emerged on the surface of matured fruits (Figure 1). To confirm infectivity, mechanical transmission of the virus was performed by grinding leaves from two symptomatic passion fruit vines in 0.1M phosphate buffer pH 7, and the resulting two samples were each used to rub-inoculate carborundum-dusted leaves of three healthy passion fruit seedlings. Newly emerging leaves of inoculated plants developed mild mosaic symptoms 30-days after inoculation. Three samples from each of the two original symptomatic plants and two samples from each inoculated seedling tested positive using a Passiflora latent virus (PLV) ELISA Kit (Creative Diagnostics, USA). To further confirm the virus identity, total RNA from leaf samples from one of the original greenhouse symptomatic plants and one of the inoculated seedlings were extracted using an TaKaRa MiniBEST Viral RNA Extraction Kit (Takara, Japan). The two RNA samples were subjected to reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) tests with virus specific primers PLV-F (5'-ACACAAAACTGCGTGTTGGA-3') and PLV-R (5'-CAAGACCCACCTACCTCAGTGTG-3') (Cho et al., 2020). RT-PCR products of the expected 571 bp were obtained from both the original greenhouse sample and inoculated seedling. Amplicons were cloned into the pGEM-T Easy Vector, and two clones per sample were Sanger sequenced bidirectionally (Sangon Biotech, China), and the sequence of one clone from one of the original symptomatic sample was uploaded to NCBI (GenBank OP320922.1). This accession had 98% nucleotide sequence identity with a PLV isolate from Korea (GenBank: LC556232.1). RNA extracts from two asymptomatic samples tested negative for PLV with both ELISA and RT-PCR tests. We also tested the original symptomatic sample for common occurring passion fruit viruses, including passion fruit woodiness virus (PWV), cucumber mosaic virus (CMV), east asian passiflora virus (EAPV), telosma mosaic virus (TeMV), papaya leaf curl Guangdong virus (PaLCuGdV), and the RT-PCR results were negative for those viruses. However, based on the systemic leaf chlorosis and necrosis symptoms, we cannot preclude a mixed infestation of other viruses. PLV affects fruit quality and has high potential to reduce market value. To our knowledge, this is the first report of PLV in China, which could provide a reference basis to PLV identification, prevention and control. BACKGROUND: Ankylosing spondylitis (AS) is a chronic inflammatory autoimmune disease, and the diagnosis and treatment of AS have been limited because its pathogenesis is still unclear. Pyroptosis is a proinflammatory type of cell death that plays an important role in the immune system. However, the relationship between pyroptosis genes and AS has never been elucidated. METHODS: GSE73754, GSE25101, and GSE221786 datasets were collected from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database. Differentially expressed pyroptosis-related genes (DE-PRGs) were identified by R software. Machine learning and PPI networks were used to screen key genes to construct a diagnostic model of AS. AS patients were clustered into different pyroptosis subtypes according to DE-PRGs using consensus cluster analysis and validated using principal component analysis (PCA). WGCNA was used for screening hub gene modules between two subtypes. Gene Ontology (GO) terms and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathways were used for enrichment analysis to elucidate underlying mechanisms. The ESTIMATE and CIBERSORT algorithms were used to reveal immune signatures. The connectivity map (CMAP) database was used to predict potential drugs for the treatment of AS. Molecular docking was used to calculate the binding affinity between potential drugs and the hub gene. RESULTS: Sixteen DE-PRGs were detected in AS compared to healthy controls, and some of these genes showed a significant correlation with immune cells such as neutrophils, CD8 + T cells, and resting NK cells. Enrichment analysis showed that DE-PRGs were mainly related to pyroptosis, IL-1ß, and TNF signaling pathways. The key genes (TNF, NLRC4, and GZMB) screened by machine learning and the protein-protein interaction (PPI) network were used to establish the diagnostic model of AS. ROC analysis showed that the diagnostic model had good diagnostic properties in GSE73754 (AUC: 0.881), GSE25101 (AUC: 0.797), and GSE221786 (AUC: 0.713). Using 16 DE-PRGs, AS patients were divided into C1 and C2 subtypes, and these two subtypes showed significant differences in immune infiltration. A key gene module was identified from the two subtypes using WGCNA, and enrichment analysis suggested that the module was mainly related to immune function. Three potential drugs, including ascorbic acid, RO 90-7501, and celastrol, were selected based on CMAP analysis. Cytoscape showed GZMB as the highest-scoring hub gene. Finally, molecular docking results showed that GZMB and ascorbic acid formed three hydrogen bonds, including ARG-41, LYS-40, and HIS-57 (affinity: -5.3 kcal/mol). GZMB and RO-90-7501 formed one hydrogen bond, including CYS-136 (affinity: -8.8 kcal/mol). GZMB and celastrol formed three hydrogen bonds, including TYR-94, HIS-57, and LYS-40 (affinity: -9.4 kcal/mol). CONCLUSIONS: Our research systematically analyzed the relationship between pyroptosis and AS. Pyroptosis may play an essential role in the immune microenvironment of AS. Our findings will contribute to a further understanding of the pathogenesis of AS.

However, changes in soil properties and management could change the bioavailability of Cd, In order to explore the occurrence state, transportation and transformation characteristics of heavy metals Cd and Zn in rice-rape rotation system in Guizhou karst area with high background value of Cd. In the karst rice-rape rotation area, the physical and chemical properties of soil, chemical specifications and activities of Cd and Zn at different soil depths and during various crop growth stages, and the bioaccumulation of Cd and Zn in different tissues of rice and rape were studied by field experiment and laboratory analysis. The bioaccumulation of Cd and Zn and the effects of physical and chemical soil properties on the activities and bioavailabilities of Cd and Zn during rice-rape rotation were explored. The findings revealed that soil particle size, composition, pH, redox potential, soil organic matter, and Cd and Zn contents varied dramatically, especially in deep soils. The physical and chemical properties of the deep and surface soils were significantly related to the bioaccumulation of Cd and Zn. Cd and Zn are activated during crop rotation. Cd was easier to be enriched in rice, while Zn was easier to be enriched in rape. The correlation between Cd and Zn contents in Brassica campestris L and their enrichment abilities were not significant, but that in Oryza sativa L were significant. During rice-rape rotation, the chemical speciations and activities of Cd and Zn changed with the changes of soil properties and waterlogging environment. This study had important basic guiding significance for the evaluation, prevention and control of heavy metal pollution, and improving soil quality in different rotation systems in karst areas, and was conducive to promoting the safe production of rape and rice.

Chronic stress significantly elevates the expression levels of various neurotransmitters in the tumour microenvironment, thereby promoting the cell growth and metastasis of lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD). However, the role of chronic stress in the progression of LUAD remains unclear. In this study, we found that chronic restraint stress increases the levels of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine (ACh), and the α5-nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (α5-nAChR) and decreased fragile histidine triad (FHIT) expression in vivo. Crucially, the increased ACh levels promoted LUAD cell migration and invasion via modulation of the α5-nAChR/DNA methyltransferase 1 (DNMT1)/FHIT axis. In a chronic unpredictable stress (CUMS) mouse model, chronic stress promotes tumour development, accompanied by changes in α5-nAChR, DNMT1, FHIT, and vimentin. Together, these findings reveal a novel chronic stress-mediated LUAD signalling pathway: chronic stress enforces lung adenocarcinoma cell invasion and migration via the ACh/α5-nAChR/FHIT axis, which could be a potential therapeutic target for chronic stress-related LUAD.

Controlled release formulations (CRFs) are a key technical approach for the sustainable development of pesticides. In this study, a CRF conjugate (emamectin-alkaline lignin, EB-AL) was successfully prepared using alkaline lignin as the substrate, with amide bond connecting emamectin and alkaline lignin. The structure and morphology of the conjugate were characterized using IR, 1HNMR, elemental analysis, SEM and TG. The release of EB-AL showed that the conjugate maintained its original structure when released in 50 % methanol-water and soil column, and the amide bond remained intact. The anti-photolysis test revealed that EB-AL had a 3.5 times higher photolysis half-life T0.5 than the general emamectin suspension concentrate (EB-SC). Bioactivity tests in the greenhouse demonstrated that EB-AL possessed a longer insecticidal duration and good biosafety. Ostrinia nubilalis lethality rate remained above 70 % for 19 days, while EB-EC, the control, had a rate of <50 % after 11 days of application. Additionally, EB-AL conjugate demonstrated excellent systemic translocation in plants, likely due to its ability to mediate alkaline lignin.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate and summarize the chest CT imaging features of patients with novel coronavirus pneumonia (COVID-19), bacterial pneumonia and other viral pneumonia. METHODS: Chest CT data of 102 patients with pulmonary infection due to different etiologies were retrospectively analyzed, including 36 patients with COVID-19 admitted to Hainan Provincial People's Hospital and the Second Affiliated Hospital of Hainan Medical University from December 2019 to March 2020, 16 patients with other viral pneumonia admitted to Hainan Provincial People's Hospital from January 2018 to February 2020, and 50 patients with bacterial pneumonia admitted to Haikou Affiliated Hospital of Central South University Xiangya School of Medicine from April 2018 to May 2020. Two senior radiologists and two senior intensive care physicians were participated to evaluated the extent of lesions involvement and imaging features of the first chest CT after the onset of the disease. RESULTS: Bilateral pulmonary lesions were more common in patients with COVID-19 and other viral pneumonia, and the incidence was significantly higher than that of bacterial pneumonia (91.6%, 75.0% vs. 26.0%, P < 0.05). Compared with other viral pneumonia and COVID-19, bacterial pneumonia was mainly characterized by single-lung and multi-lobed lesion (62.0% vs. 18.8%, 5.6%, P < 0.05), accompanied by pleural effusion and lymph node enlargement. The proportion of ground-glass opacity in the lung tissues of patients with COVID-19 was 97.2%, that of patients with other viral pneumonia was 56.2%, and that of patients with bacterial pneumonia was only 2.0% (P < 0.05). The incidence rate of lung tissue consolidation (25.0%, 12.5%), air bronchial sign (13.9%, 6.2%) and pleural effusion (16.7%, 37.5%) in patients with COVID-19 and other viral pneumonia were significantly lower than those in patients with bacterial pneumonia (62.0%, 32.0%, 60.0%, all P < 0.05), paving stone sign (22.2%, 37.5%), fine mesh sign (38.9%, 31.2%), halo sign (11.1%, 25.0%), ground-glass opacity with interlobular septal thickening (30.6%, 37.5%), bilateral patchy pattern/rope shadow (80.6%, 50.0%) etc. were significantly higher than those of bacterial pneumonia (2.0%, 4.0%, 2.0%, 0%, 22.0%, all P < 0.05). The incidence of local patchy shadow in patients with COVID-19 was only 8.3%, significantly lower than that in patients with other viral pneumonia and bacterial pneumonia (8.3% vs. 68.8%, 50.0%, P < 0.05). There was no significant difference in the incidence of peripheral vascular shadow thickening in patients with COVID-19, other viral pneumonia and bacterial pneumonia (27.8%, 12.5%, 30.0%, P > 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: The probability of ground-glass opacity, paving stone and grid shadow in chest CT of patients with COVID-19 was significantly higher than those of bacterial pneumonia, and it was more common in the lower lungs and lateral dorsal segment. In other patients with viral pneumonia, ground-glass opacity was distributed in both upper and lower lungs. Bacterial pneumonia is usually characterized by single lung consolidation, distributed in lobules or large lobes and accompanied by pleural effusion.

Unraveling the origin of Helmholtz capacitance is of paramount importance for understanding the interfacial structure and electrostatic potential distribution of electric double layers (EDL). In this work, we combined the methods of ab initio molecular dynamics and classical molecular dynamics and modeled electrified Cu(100)/electrolyte and graphene/electrolyte interfaces for comparison. It was proposed that the Helmholtz capacitance is composed of three parts connected in series: the usual solvent capacitance, water chemisorption induced capacitance, and Pauling repulsion caused gap capacitance. We found the Helmholtz capacitance of graphene is significantly lower than that of Cu(100), which was attributed to two intrinsic factors. One is that graphene has a wider gap layer at interface, and the other is that graphene is less active for water chemisorption. Finally, based on our findings, we provide suggestions for how to increase the EDL capacitance of graphene-based materials in future work, and we also suggest that the new understanding of the potential distribution across the Helmholtz layer may help explain some experimental phenomena of electrocatalysis.

The field experiment study investigated the effect of lime (L), manure compost (M), combination of lime and manure (LM), and combinations of lime with four kinds of passivators (LP1, LP2, LP3, and LP4) on the bioavailability of cadmium (Cd) in soil and Cd accumulation in rice plants. These four passivating products were composed of organic and inorganic compounds such as silicon-sulfhydryl group, CaO, SiO2, and so on. The results indicated that the application of these amendments improved soil pH, organic matter content, and cation exchange capacity (CEC) by 0.19-0.73 unit, 0.6-8.2%, and 5.7-38.9%, respectively; meanwhile, decreased soil acid-extractable Cd by 4.0-13.9% compared with before remediation. Alleviating Cd stress to rice also resulted in a significant increase in rice grains yield, whereas the LP4 showed an increment of 15.8-27.6%. Among these amendments, LP4 had a relatively high effectiveness, it promoted the decrease of extractable Cd by 13.9% and the increase of residual Cd by 8.1%; meanwhile, the bioconcentration factor of rice grain in LP4 decreased by 71.3%. The high pH, CEC, and rich functional groups in amendments might cause soil Cd transform from mobile fraction to residual fraction, and the cation ions in amendments also competed with Cd ions due to the antagonism. Taken all of these effects, the amendments alleviated Cd pollution in soil-rice system, decreasing Cd migration from soil to grain. In future, the long-term field experiment will need to be done for verify the long-term effect of soil amendments.

To observe the therapeutic effect of PD-1 inhibitors on driver-gene mutation negative advanced non-squamous non-small cell lung cancer (nsNSCLC) and the role of the AGEs-RAGE system in the disease, provide more reliable treatment for future nsNSCLC patients. In this study, we selected 130 nsNSCLC patients admitted between January 2021 and April 2022 were selected as the study subjects, 61 of whom received pemetrexed plus carboplatin (control group) and 69 received PD-1 inhibitors, pemetrexed and carboplatin (research group). The clinical efficacy and adverse reactions of the two groups were compared, and the prognostic survival time was calculated. The results show that two groups were not statistically different in objective response rate (ORR) and incidence of adverse reactions, but the disease control rate (DCR) was higher in the research group (P<0.05). Besides, the median progression-free survival (PFS) was prolonged in the research group compared with the control group (P<0.05). In addition, changes in the levels of T lymphocyte subsets, AGEs and RAGE before and after treatment were detected, and the relationship between AGEs-RAGE and the therapeutic effect of PD-1 inhibitors was analyzed. The research group also showed higher CD3+, CD4+ and lower CD8+, AGEs and RAGE levels than the control group after treatment (P<0.05). Finally, we found that in addition, the efficacy of the study group was inversely related to AGEs and RAGE levels (P<0.05). With these results, we concluded that PD-1 inhibitors are effective in the treatment of driver-gene mutation negative advanced nsNSCLC, and the AGEs-RAGE system may provide a more reliable guarantee for the treatment outcomes of patients in the future.

Background: Early and accurate diagnosis of invasive fungal infection (IFI) is pivotal for the initiation of effective antifungal therapy for patients with hematologic malignancies. Methods: This retrospective study involved 235 patients with hematologic malignancies and pulmonary infections diagnosed as IFIs (n=118) or bacterial pneumonia (n=117). Patients were randomly divided into training (n=188) and validation (n=47) datasets. Four feature selection methods with nine classifiers were implemented to select the optimal machine learning (ML) model using five-fold cross-validation. A radiomic signature was constructed using a linear ML algorithm, and a radiomic score (Radscore) was calculated. The combined model was developed with the Radscore, the significant clinical and radiologic factors were selected using multivariable logistic regression, and the results were presented as a clinical radiomic nomogram. A prospective pilot study was also conducted to compare the classification performance of the combined nomogram with practicing radiologists. Results: Significant differences were found in the Radscore between IFI and bacterial pneumonia patients in the training (0.683 vs. -0.724, P<0.001) and validation set (0.353 vs. -0.717, P=0.002). The combined model showed good discrimination performance in the validation cohort [area under the curve (AUC) =0.844] and outperformed the clinical (AUC =0.696) and radiomics (AUC =0.767) model alone (both P<0.05). Conclusions: The clinical radiomic nomogram can serve as a promising predictive tool for IFI in patients with hematologic malignancies.
