RESUMEN

Changes in protein ubiquitination have been linked to cancer. Deubiquitinating enzymes (DUBs) counteract E3 ligase activities and have emerged as promising targets for cancer treatment. Ubiquitin-specific peptidase 5 (USP5) is a member of the DUBs family and has been implicated in promoting tumorigenesis in numerous cancers. However, the clinical significance and biological function of USP5 in osteosarcoma (OS) remains unclear. Here, we found elevated USP5 expression in OS tissues compared with normal bone tissues. Furthermore, we observed significant associations of elevated USP5 levels with increased mortality and more malignant phenotypes in OS patients. Moreover, our results revealed that USP5 could facilitate metastasis and cell progression in OS by activating the hedgehog (Hh) signaling pathway using cultured cells and animal tumor models. Mechanistically, USP5 appeared to stabilize and deubiquitinate Gli1, a key mediator of the Hh signaling pathway. Additionally, the oncogenic effect of USP5 in OS was dependent on Gli1 stability. Our findings support the model where USP5 contributes to OS pathogenesis by activating the Hh/Gli1 signaling pathway, making USP5 a potential diagnostic and therapeutic target for OS.

Tracking the dynamic surface evolution of metal halide perovskite is crucial for understanding the corresponding fundamental principles of photoelectric properties and intrinsic instability. However, due to the volatility elements and soft lattice nature of perovskites, several important dynamic behaviors remain unclear. Here, an ultra-high vacuum (UHV) interconnection system integrated by surface-sensitive probing techniques has been developed to investigate the freshly cleaved surface of CH3NH3PbBr3  in situ under given energy stimulation. On this basis, the detailed three-step chemical decomposition pathway of perovskites has been clarified. Meanwhile, the evolution of crystal structure from cubic phase to tetragonal phase on the perovskite surface has been revealed under energy stimulation. Accompanied by chemical composition and crystal structure evolution, electronic structure changes including energy level position, hole effective mass, and Rashba splitting have also been accurately determined. These findings provide a clear perspective on the physical origin of optoelectronic properties and the decomposition mechanism of perovskites.

Organic field-effect transistors (OFETs) have broad prospects in biomedical, sensor, and aerospace applications. However, obtaining temperature-immune OFETs is difficult because the electrical properties of organic semiconductors (OSCs) are temperature-sensitive. The zero-temperature coefficient (ZTC) point behavior can be used to achieve a temperature-immune output current; however, it is difficult to achieve in organic devices with thermal activation characteristics, according to the existing ZTC point theory. Here, the Fermi pinning in OSCs is eliminated using the defect passivation strategy, making the Fermi level closer to the tail state at low temperatures; thus threshold voltage (VT) is negatively correlated with temperature. ZTC point behaviors in OFETs are achieved by compensation between VT and mobility at different temperatures to improve its temperature immunity. A temperature-immune output current can be realized in a variable-temperature bias voltage test over 50000 s by biasing the device at the ZTC point. This study provides an effective solution for temperature-immune OFETs and inspiration for their practical application.

Diabetic wound therapy presents significant challenges in the clinical environment, where persistent bleeding, disturbed inflammatory regulation, impaired cellular proliferation, and impaired tissue remodeling are major features of diabetic wound healing. However, current treatment strategies need to be considered in the context of the dynamic and complex needs of chronic wound healing. Here, multifunctional dynamic boronic acid cross-linked hydrogels were prepared by the reaction of gelatin (Gel) inoculated with 5-carboxy 3-nitrophenylboronic acid (NPBA) and Epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) to achieve rapid gelation at pH = 7.4, EGCG could interact electrostatically with cationic antimicrobial peptides (AMP) to achieve the effective loading of AMP in the hydrogels. This hydrogel can be injected and adhered to skin defects in diabetic patients to provide a barrier and rapid hemostasis. In a high glucose microenvironment, the rapid release of AMP effectively kills bacteria, while the responsive release of EGCG eliminates reactive oxygen species (ROS) and promotes macrophage M2 polarization. In addition, the hydrogel had excellent biocompatibility and degradability properties, degraded completely after 3 days of subcutaneous injection, and was non-toxic in H&E staining of major organs and serum liver function indices in mice. This multifunctional injectable hydrogel accelerates diabetic skin wound repair and is a promising dressing for the precise treatment of diabetic wounds.

Optoelectronic properties of semiconductors are significantly modified by impurities at trace level. Oxygen, a prevalent impurity in organic semiconductors (OSCs), has long been considered charge-carrier traps, leading to mobility degradation and stability problems. However, this understanding relies on the conventional deoxygenation methods, by which oxygen residues in OSCs are inevitable. It implies that the current understanding is questionable. Here, we develop a non-destructive deoxygenation method (i.e., de-doping) for OSCs by a soft plasma treatment, and thus reveal that trace oxygen significantly pre-empties the donor-like traps in OSCs, which is the origin of p-type characteristics exhibited by the majority of these materials. This insight is completely opposite to the previously reported carrier trapping and can clarify some previously unexplained organic electronics phenomena. Furthermore, the de-doping results in the disappearance of p-type behaviors and significant increase of n-type properties, while re-doping (under light irradiation in O2) can controllably reverse the process. Benefiting from this, the key electronic characteristics (e.g., polarity, conductivity, threshold voltage, and mobility) can be precisely modulated in a nondestructive way, expanding the explorable property space for all known OSC materials.

Although S-scheme artificial photosynthesis shows promise for photocatalytic hydrogen production, traditional methods often overly concentrate on a single reduction site. This limitation results in inadequate redox capability and inefficient charge separation, which hampers the efficiency of the photocatalytic hydrogen evolution reaction. To overcome this limitation, a double S-scheme system is proposed that leverages dual reduction sites, thereby preserving energetic photo-electrons and holes to enhance apparent quantum efficiency. The design features a double S-scheme junction consisting of CdS nanospheres decorated with anatase TiO2 nanoparticles coupled with graphitic C3 N4 . The as-prepared catalyst exhibits a hydrogen evolution rate of 26.84 mmol g-1  h-1 and an apparent quantum efficiency of 40.2% at 365 nm. This enhanced photocatalytic hydrogen evolution is ascribed to the efficient charge separation and transport induced by the double S-scheme. Both theoretical calculations and comprehensive spectroscopy tests (both in situ and ex situ) affirm the efficient charge transport across the catalyst interface. Moreover, substituting the reduction-type catalyst CdS with other similar sulfides like ZnIn2 S4 , ZnS, MoS2 and In2 S3 further confirms the feasibility of the proposed double S-scheme configuration. The findings provide a pathway to designing more effective double S-scheme artificial photosynthetic systems, opening up fresh perspectives in enhancing photocatalytic hydrogen evolution performance.

Solid polymer electrolytes (SPEs) encounter the challenge of balancing high ionic conductivity and mechanical strength. Ionic liquids, which are among the contenders to be used in high-performance supercapacitors, have difficulty infiltrating commercial polyolefin separators for combined applications. In this study, a novel SPE involving uniform infiltration in the micropores of commercial polyolefin separators with polyethylene oxide (PEO), lithium salt, and different proportions of added ionic liquid was developed. The composite membranes combining ionic liquid-filled SPE with polypropylene (PP) microporous separators simultaneously achieve excellent mechanical strength and high-ionic conductivity. The low wettability of pure ionic liquids and commercial polyolefin-based separators is addressed. The 70 wt% IL-filled solid electrolyte composite membrane (PLI(70)@PP) exhibits a high ionic conductivity (2.9 × 10-3 S cm-1), low resistance at the electrolyte-electrode interface and excellent mechanical strength (128 MPa) at 25 °C. The all-solid-state supercapacitor using PLI(70)@PP exhibits a specific capacitance of 158 F g-1 at 0.1 A g-1 and stable cycle performance. The proposed method can be performed via high-volume roll-to-roll processing to obtain high-performance all-solid-state supercapacitors (ASSCs) for engineering applications.

Polarized (sub)millimetre emission from dust grains in circumstellar disks was initially thought to be because of grains aligned with the magnetic field1,2. However, higher-resolution multi-wavelength observations3-5 and improved models6-10 found that this polarization is dominated by self-scattering at shorter wavelengths (for example, 870 µm) and by grains aligned with something other than magnetic fields at longer wavelengths (for example, 3 mm). Nevertheless, the polarization signal is expected to depend on the underlying substructure11-13, and observations until now have been unable to resolve polarization in multiple rings and gaps. HL Tau, a protoplanetary disk located 147.3 ± 0.5 pc away14, is the brightest class I or class II disk at millimetre-submillimetre wavelengths. Here we show deep, high-resolution polarization observations of HL Tau at 870 µm, resolving polarization in both the rings and the gaps. We find that the gaps have polarization angles with a notable azimuthal component and a higher polarization fraction than the rings. Our models show that the disk polarization is due to both scattering and emission from the aligned effectively prolate grains. The intrinsic polarization of aligned dust grains is probably more than 10%, which is much higher than that expected in low-resolution observations (about 1%). Asymmetries and dust features that are not seen in non-polarimetric observations are seen in the polarization observations.

Herein, we present a novel and ecofriendly biocatalytic approach for synthesizing efinaconazole (7), a clinically used antifungal agent. This method involves utilizing benzaldehyde lyase (BAL) to catalyze the crucial benzoin condensation step in the ketone precursor. Treating 2,4-difluorobenzaldehyde with BAL in the presence of thiamin-diphosphate (ThDP) and Mg2+ resulted in the formation of α-hydroxy ketone which then underwent the preparation of 7. This innovative approach not only provides a greener alternative but also offers significant advantages over the traditional chemical process. Through our efforts and development work, we have established efficient and scalable procedures that enable the production of 7 in a moderate 38% yield.

Improving thermal stability is of great importance for the industrialization of polymer solar cells (PSC). In this paper, we systematically investigated the high-temperature thermal annealing effect on the device performance of the state-of-the-art polymer:non-fullerene (PM6:Y6) solar cells with an inverted structure. Results revealed that the overall performance decay (19% decrease) was mainly due to the fast open-circuit voltage (VOC, 10% decrease) and fill factor (FF, 10% decrease) decays whereas short circuit current (JSC) was relatively stable upon annealing at 150 °C (0.5% decrease). Pre-annealing on the ZnO/PM6:Y6 at 150 °C before the completion of cell fabrication resulted in a 1.7% performance decrease, while annealing on the ZnO/PM6:Y6/MoO3 films led to a 10.5% performance decay, indicating that the degradation at the PM6:Y6/MoO3 interface is the main reason for the overall performance decay. The increased ideality factor and reduced built-in potential confirmed by dark J - V curve analysis further confirmed the increased interfacial charge recombination after thermal annealing. The interaction of PM6:Y6 and MoO3 was proved by UV-Vis absorption and XPS measurements. Such deep chemical doping of PM6:Y6 led to unfavorable band alignment at the interface, which led to increased surface charge recombination and reduced built-in potential of the cells after thermal annealing. Inserting a thin C60 layer between the PM6:Y6 and MoO3 significantly improved the cells' thermal stability, and less than 2% decay was measured for the optimized cell with 3 nm C60.

Objective: To explore the effectiveness of arthroscopic binding fixation using suture through single bone tunnel for posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) tibial insertion fractures in adults. Methods: Between October 2019 and October 2021, 16 patients with PCL tibial insertion fractures were treated with arthroscopic binding fixation using suture through single bone tunnel. There were 11 males and 5 females with an average age of 41.1 years (range, 26-58 years). The fractures were caused by traffic accident in 12 cases and sports in 4 cases. The time from injury to operation ranged from 2 to 10 days with an average of 6.0 days. The fractures were classified as Meyers-McKeever type Ⅱ in 4 cases and type Ⅲ in 9 cases, and Zaricznyi type Ⅳ in 3 cases. There were 2 cases of grade Ⅰ, 7 cases of grade Ⅱ, and 7 cases of grade Ⅲ in the posterior drawer test. There were 3 cases combined with lateral collateral ligament injury and 2 cases with meniscus injury. The visual analogue scale (VAS) score, Lysholm score, International Knee Documentation Committee (IKDC) score, and knee range of motion were used to evaluate knee joint function. The posterior drawer test and knee stability tester (Kneelax 3) were used to evaluate knee joint stability. The X-ray films were used to evaluate fracture reduction and healing. Results: All incisions healed by first intention after operation. There was no incision infection, popliteal neurovascular injury, or deep venous thrombosis of lower limbs. All patients were followed up 6-12 months, with an average of 10 months. X-ray films at 6 months after operation showed the fractures obtained bone union. There were 11 cases of grade 0, 4 cases of gradeⅠ, and 1 case of grade Ⅱin posterior drawer test, showing significant difference when compared with preoperative results ( Z=23.167, P<0.001). The VAS score, Lysholm score, IKDC score, knee range of motion, and the results of Kneelax3 examination all significantly improved when compared with preoperative results ( P<0.05). Conclusion: For adult patients with PCL tibial insertion fractures, the arthroscopic binding fixation using suture through single bone tunnel has the advantages of minimal trauma, good fracture reduction, reliable fixation, and fewer complications. The patient's knee joint function recovers well.

Various carbon sources affect the growth of the G. lucidum fruiting body, and the cassava stalk is considered a promising carbon source for G. lucidum. The composition, functional group characteristics, molecular weight distribution, antioxidant activity in vitro, and growth effect of L. rhamnosus LGG of G. lucidum polysaccharides (GLPs) under cassava stalk stress were investigated by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry, near-infrared spectroscopy, and gel chromatography. The results showed that GLPs consisted of D-glucose, D-galactose, and seven other monosaccharides. The end of the sugar chain had ß-D-Glc and ß-D-Gal configurations. The total sugar content in GLP1 was the highest (4.07%), and GLP1, GLP2, GLP3, and GLP5 had the ß-D-Gal configuration, while GLP4 and GLP6 had the ß-D-Glc configuration. The greater the proportion of cassava stalk, the greater the maximum molecular weight of GLPs. The total antioxidant capacities of GLPs obtained from different cassava stalks significantly varied, as well as their stimulating effects on the L. rhamnosus LGG growth. Higher concentrations of GLPs corresponded to the more intensive growth of L. rhamnosus LGG. This study provided essential data support for cassava stalk as a carbon source in G. lucidum cultivation.

Purpose: Knowledge of the readiness for hospital discharge can help health care professionals accurately determine the patients' discharge time. However, few studies were on the readiness for discharge and its related factors among mothers with cesarean sections. Thus, this study aims to examine the readiness for hospital discharge and its associated factors among Chinese mothers with cesarean sections. Patients and Methods: A single-centre cross-sectional study was conducted from September 2020 to March 2021 in Guangzhou, China. Three hundred thirty-nine mothers with cesarean sections completed the questionnaires on demographic and obstetric characteristics, readiness for hospital discharge, quality for discharge teaching, parenting sense of competence, family function, and social support. Multiple linear regression analysis was used to identify independent factors influencing readiness for hospital discharge among mothers with cesarean sections. Results: The total score of readiness for hospital discharge was 136.47 ± 25.29. The quality of discharge teaching, parenting sense of competence, number of cesareans, family function, and attending antenatal classes were independent factors influencing the readiness for hospital discharge (P < 0.05) among mothers with cesarean sections. Conclusion: The readiness for hospital discharge of mothers with cesarean sections need to be improved. Improving the quality of discharge teaching, parenting sense of competence, and family function may help improve the readiness for hospital discharge of mothers with cesarean sections.

Designing heterojunction photocatalysts imitating natural photosynthetic systems has been a promising approach for photocatalytic hydrogen generation. However, in the traditional Z-Scheme artificial photosynthetic systems, the poor charge separation, and rapid recombination of photogenerated carriers remain a huge bottleneck. To rationally design S-Scheme (i.e., Step scheme) heterojunctions by avoiding the futile charge transport routes is therefore seen as an attractive approach to achieving high hydrogen evolution rates. Herein, a twin S-scheme heterojunction is proposed involving graphitic C3 N4 nanosheets self-assembled with hydrogen-doped rutile TiO2 nanorods and anatase TiO2 nanoparticles. This catalyst shows an excellent photocatalytic hydrogen evolution rate of 62.37 mmol g-1 h-1 and high apparent quantum efficiency of 45.9% at 365 nm. The significant enhancement of photocatalytic performance is attributed to the efficient charge separation and transfer induced by the unique twin S-scheme structure. The charge transfer route in the twin S-scheme is confirmed by in situ X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and electron spin resonance (ESR) spin-trapping tests. Femtosecond transient absorption (fs-TA) spectroscopy, transient-state surface photovoltage (TPV), and other ex situ characterizations further corroborate the efficient charge transport across the catalyst interface. This work offers a new perspective on constructing artificial photosynthetic systems with S-scheme heterojunctions to enhance photocatalytic performance.

@#Abstract: Objective To understand the mental health literacy level of residents in Hainan Province, and to provide evidence for promoting mental health promotion and improving the mental health literacy level of residents. Methods Multi-stage random sampling method was used to investigate The National Mental Health Literacy Questionnaire among 6 895 residents in 12 districts including Changjiang, Chengmai, Dongfang, Ledong, Lingshui, Haikou Longhua District, Haikou Meilan District, Qionghai, Sanya, Tunchang, Wenchang and Wuzhishan. Results In the survey 6 895 residents in 12 counties, cities, districts of Hainan Province, 365 of them reached the standard of mental health with the standard rate of 5.3%. The mental health knowledge score was (54.00±17.02) with the standard rate of 7.7%; the self-assessment score was (26.11±3.99) with the standard rate of 75.9%; the score of mental health skill was (26.22±7.25) with the standard rate of 44.8%. The mental health literacy level of medical workers was the highest, with the standard rate of 13.5% (112/830), and the mental health literacy level of farmers was the lowest, with the standard rate of 0.8% (13/1 647). The results of unconditional Logistic regression showed that the factors entering the regression model included educational background (OR=2.268), personal monthly income (OR=1.129), gender (OR=1.302), household registration (OR=0.776), and whether they had participated in mental health related courses OR training (OR=0.511). The higher the educational background and personal monthly income, the higher the psychological quality. The mental health of women was higher than that of men, and that of urban was higher than that of rural, and those who had participated in mental health related courses were higher than those who had not. Conclusions The mental health literacy level of Hainan residents is at a low level, and the influencing factors are multifaceted. It is suggested to strengthen the mental health monitoring comprehensively and carry out rich health education service mode for different groups.

PURPOSE: This study aimed to evaluate the role of social participation in the relationship between internet use and depressive symptoms among Chinese older adults and investigate how the internet use interact with social participation to reduce the risk of depressive symptoms. METHODS: Based on the survey from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS) in 2018, we identified 4645 subjects and used the Ordinary Least Square method (OLS) and Propensity Score Matching method (PSM) to identify the association between Internet use and depression of older people, and further test how social participation played a role in the relationship. RESULTS: The level of depression of older people was significantly reduced in those who using internet in China, and the effect was still robust under different identification methods. The mental health was improved when using internet because of the increase of social participation and social capital. Further, The positive effect was stronger especially in those who were female, living in rural areas, has low education attainments and were 70-79 years old. CONCLUSIONS: The popularity of internet use has a positive effect on the depressive symptoms of Chinese older adults. Effective measures were encouraged to improve the friendliness of internet for older people and promote the popularization of the Internet and older group, achieving the spiritual well-being of them in the Internet society.

Cyclooxygenases play a vital role in inflammation and are responsible for the production of prostaglandins. Two cyclooxygenases are described, the constitutive cyclooxygenase-1 and the inducible cyclooxygenase-2, for which the target inhibitors are the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). Prostaglandins are a class of lipid compounds that mediate acute and chronic inflammation. NSAIDs are the most frequent choices for treatment of inflammation. Nevertheless, currently used anti-inflammatory drugs have become associated with a variety of adverse effects which lead to diminished output even market withdrawal. Recently, more studies have been carried out on searching novel selective COX-2 inhibitors with safety profiles. In this review, we highlight the various structural classes of organic and natural scaffolds with efficient COX-2 inhibitory activity reported during 2011-2021. It will be valuable for pharmaceutical scientists to read up on the current chemicals to pave the way for subsequent research.

Purpose: Based on life course theories, health among older people is driven by a continuous and cumulative process that develops over the life course. To better understand the aging process, it is important to assess associations between parity and heart disease in older people of China. Method: The associations between heart disease prevalence and number of births, number of boys or girls ever born were evaluated among 5,990 samples (mean age 64.1 years) using the Probit regression model based on the data from China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS) conducted in 2013 and 2018. The model was adjusted only for rural or urban residents, and multivariate regression models were run separately by gender. Results: Our results showed that more than three children or more than two boys ever born were associated with a higher risk of heart disease. However, the number of girls ever born had no significant effect on heart disease in the elderly. We further analyzed the group difference between urban and rural residents using the regression model. More than three children or more than two boys ever born were associated with a high risk of heart disease in rural areas. Compared to urban residents, rural residents were more likely to be suffering from heart disease due to high parity. When considering the digender difference the paper found that more than three children ever born were associated with a high risk of heart disease in the female group. Late age at the time of giving birth for the first time was associated with a poorer risk level of heart disease in the rural residents, because the phenomenon of early childbearing was serious in the rural residents. But after considering the impact on the physical health of using chronic diseases, the first birth and the last birth both increased the risk of heart disease. Conclusions: Some policy implications were being put forward. Firstly, parents who were ready to give birth should be aware of the possible health loss of high parity. Postpartum nutrition supplements and chronic disease prevention were suggested to prevent heart disease in later life. Secondly, the elderly in rural areas should pay more attention to heart diseases. Participating in more daily exercise and physical examinations was a good choice to reduce the risk of heart disease. Thirdly, women who give birth prematurely have a higher risk of CVD. Based on our results, age at entry to parenthood was closely related to the risk of heart disease in later life.

AIM: This study aimed to investigate the implications of postpartum negative life events on postpartum depression and posttraumatic growth in women after childbirth. METHODS: A sample of 280 postpartum women at a level III hospital in China provided data on postpartum depression, negative life events, and posttraumatic growth with a cross-sectional design. RESULTS: The scores of both postpartum depression and negative life events exhibited a quadratic correlation with posttraumatic growth in women after childbirth, and negative life events significantly moderated the associations between depression and overall posttraumatic growth and its three dimensions: personal strength, spirit change, and relating to others. CONCLUSIONS: Women can experience positive psychological growth after childbirth, and this study provides new evidence of an interaction between postpartum depression and negative life events in the prediction of psychological growth, highlighting the moderating role of negative life events. This study could help direct mental health professionals to target interventions that provide more psychological support to reduce the impact of depression and negative life events, which will be conducive to improving women's psychological growth.

As an important life event in individuals' life, childbirth will affect the health of women to different degrees. More and more attention has been paid to whether the number of births will affect the incident diabetes in elderly women, but there are few related studies. Based on the data of the Chinese Longitudinal Healthy Longevity Survey in 2018, 6,159 older women are selected as the study population. Logistic regression analyses are used to estimate the relationship between the number of births and diabetes risk. For each additional birth, the odds ratio of maternal diabetes will decrease by 6.9% and the result is significant at the 1% level, especially among mothers having four children or less. The conclusion is equally applicable in the sample of fathers and urban mothers, but the increase in the number of births will increase the risk of diabetes in rural mothers, although this result is not statistically significant. Later age at first birth, later age at last birth, the longer childbearing period, and birth interval will significantly reduce the risk of diabetes.
