Aims: This study aims to explore the gender differences in cognitive improvements after two months of atypical antipsychotic treatment in first episode schizophrenia (FES). Methods: 82 patients with FES, including 50 male patients and 32 female patients, were enrolled in the present study. Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale (PANSS) and MATRICS Consensus Cognitive Battery (MCCB) were respectively conducted to evaluate the clinical symptoms and cognitive function of patients with FES at baseline and after treatment. Repeated measure ANOVA was performed to compare gender differences in cognitive domains scores between baseline and 2-month follow-up. Stepwise liner regression model was performed to explore the effect factors of cognitive improvements in patients. Results: There was no significant difference in age of onset, education years, PANSS scores, duration of untreated psychosis and Olanzapine equivalent doses between male and female patients (all p > 0.05). In the comparisons of cognition function, male patients exhibited better performance in social cognition compared with female patients at baseline (t = 3.20, p < 0.05). After treatment, improvements of attention/vigilance and working memory were both found in male patients and female patients (attention/vigilance, F = 11.867, p < 0.05; working memory, F = 18.265, p < 0.05). In addition, improvement of speed of information processing was only found in female patients (F = 11.65, p < 0.01). Significant interaction between time and gender was found in speed information of processing (F = 4.140, p = 0.045). Stepwise liner regression model revealed that improvements of negative symptoms promote improvements of cognitive function in female patients (all p < 0.05). Conclusions: Our findings revealed gender differences of cognitive improvements in patients with FES after 2-month treatment. It provides new evidence for gender differences in cognitive symptoms of schizophrenia, and also provides preliminary clues for further individualized cognitive intervention strategies.

OBJECTIVE: Resident immune cells are at the forefront of sensory organ-specific signals, and changes in these cells are closely related to the aging process. The Sirt pathway can regulate NAD + metabolism during aging, thereby affecting the accumulation of ROS. However, the role of the Sirt pathway in resident immune cells in aged tissues is currently unclear. METHODS: We investigated Sirt1 signalling in resident immune cells during chronic inflammation in an aged mouse model. Integrated single-cell RNA sequencing data from young and aged mice were used to refine the characterization of immune cells in aged tissues RESULTS: We found that C1q + macrophages could affect chronic inflammation during aging. C1q + macrophages acted in an opposing manner to Il1b + macrophages and were responsible for anti-inflammatory effects during aging. Sirt1 agonists inhibited the decrease in C1qb in macrophages during aging, and anti-aging drugs could affect the expression of C1qb in macrophages via the Sirt1 pathway. CONCLUSIONS: In this study, we first identified the relevance of C1q + macrophages in chronic inflammation during aging. The potential anti-aging effect of C1q + macrophages was mediated by the Sirt1 pathway, suggesting new strategies for aging immunotherapy.

OBJECTIVE: Although previous studies have validated the effect of childhood trauma on depressive level, few studies have utilized the diathesis-stress theory to investigate the specific roles of perceived stress and rumination in the pathway between childhood trauma and depression in Chinese college students. This study aims to demonstrate the mediation effect of perceived stress and the moderation effect of rumination in the pathway between childhood trauma and depressive level in Chinese college students. METHODS: A total of 995 Chinese college students in Guangzhou were included in this study by recruitment advertisement from October to December 2021. And they were asked to finish four self-report questionnaires, including Childhood Trauma Questionnaire-Short Form, Perceived Stress Scale, the 22-item Ruminative Response Scale, and Beck Depression Scale-II. Then the data were analyzed with Mplus 8.3. RESULTS: Results revealed significant correlations among childhood trauma, perceived stress, rumination and depressive level. Further analyses revealed that perceived stress played a mediation role between childhood trauma and depressive level (estimate=0.09, standard error [SE]=0.02, t=5.93, 95% confidence interval [CI]=0.06-0.12), and rumination played a moderation role between childhood trauma and perceived stress (estimate=-0.17, SE=0.06, t=-2.86, 95% CI=-0.28- -0.05]) as well as between childhood trauma and depressive level (estimate=0.10, SE=0.04, t=2.74, 95% CI=0.03-0.16). CONCLUSION: These results revealed the mediation effect of perceived stress and the moderation effect of rumination in the pathway between childhood trauma and depressive level in Chinese college students, which helped us to understand how the childhood trauma influenced the depressive level and gave us multi-dimensional indications for reducing the effect of childhood trauma on depressive level.

Objectives: The positive effects of tea on Alzheimer's disease (AD) have increasingly captured researchers' attention. Nevertheless, the quantitative comprehensive analysis in the relevant literatur is lack. This paper aims to thoroughly examine the current research status and hotspots from 2014 to 2023, providing a valuable reference for subsequent research. Methods: Documents spanning from 2014 to 2023 were searched from the Web of Science, and the R software, VOSviewer, and Citespace software were used for analysis and visualization. Results: A total of 374 documents were contained in the study. The rate of article publications exhibited a consistent increase each year from 2014 to 2023. Notably, China emerged as the leading country in terms of published articles, followed by the United States and India. Simultaneously, China is also in a leading position in cooperation with other countries. Molecules emerged as the most frequently published journal, while the Journal of Alzheimer's Disease secured the top spot in terms of citations. The identified main keywords included oxidative stress, amyloid, epigallocatechin gallate, and green tea polyphenol, among others. These focal areas delved into the antioxidative and anti-amyloid aggregation actions of tea's polyphenolic components. Furthermore, the particularly way in which epigallocatechin gallate delivers neuroprotective outcomes by influencing molecules related to AD represents a focal point of research. Conclusion: The increasing attention from researchers on the role of tea in ameliorating AD positions it as a hot spot in the development of anti-AD drugs in the development of future. Through our generalized analysis of the current landscape and hotspots regarding tea's application in AD, this study provides an estimable reference for future research endeavors.

BACKGROUND: The activity of von Willebrand factor (VWF) in facilitating platelet adhesion and aggregation correlates with its multimer size. Traditional ristocetin-dependent functional assays lack sensitivity to multimers sizes. Recently nanobodies targeting the autoinhibitory module and activating VWF were identified. OBJECTIVE: To develop an assay that can differentiate the platelet-binding activity of VWF multimers. METHODS: An ELISA-based assay (VWF:GPIbNab) utilizing a VWF-activating nanobody was developed. Recombinant VWF (rVWF), plasma-derived VWF (pdVWF), and selected gel-filtrated fractions of pdVWF, were evaluated for VWF antigen and activity levels. A linear regression model was developed to estimate the specific activity of VWF multimers. RESULTS: Of three activating nanobodies tested, 6C11 with the lowest activation effect exhibited the highest sensitivity for high-molecular-weight multimers (HMWMs) of VWF. VWF:GPIbNab utilizing 6C11 (VWF:GPIbNab6C11) produced significantly higher activity/antigen ratios for rVWF (>2.0) and HMWM-enriched pdVWF fractions (>2.0) than for pdVWF (∼1.0) or fractions enriched with shorter multimers (<1.0). The differences were much larger than those produced by VWF:GPIbNab utilizing other nanobodies, VWF:GPIbM, VWF:GPIbR, or VWF:CB assays. Linear regression analysis of five pdVWF fractions of various multimer sizes produced an estimated specific activity of 2.7 for HMWMs. The analysis attributed >90% of the VWF activity measured by VWF:GPIbNab6C11 to that of HMWMs, which is significantly higher than all other activity assays tested. CONCLUSIONS: The VWF:GPIbNab6C11 assay exhibits higher sensitivity to HMWMs than ristocetin-based and collagen-binding assays. Future studies examining the application of this assay in clinical settings and any associated therapeutic benefit of doing so are warranted.

There has been a consistent and notable increase in the global prevalence of skin cutaneous melanoma (SKCM). Although genetic factors are closely associated with the occurrence and development of melanoma, the potential influence of environmental factors cannot be overlooked. The existing literature lacks a definitive consensus on the correlation between air pollution and the incidence rate of SKCM. This study seeks to investigate the causal relationship between air pollution, specifically focusing on particulate matter (PM) 2.5, PM2.5-10, PM10, and nitrogen oxides, and the risk of SKCM. A 2-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) method was applied, utilizing extensive publicly accessible genome-wide association studies summary datasets within European populations. The primary analytical method employed was the inverse variance weighted method. Supplementary methods, including the weighted median model, MR-Egger, simple model, and weighted model, were chosen to ensure robust analysis. Heterogeneity assessment was conducted using Cochran's Q test. To identify potential pleiotropy, both MR-Egger regression and the MR-PRESSO global test were employed. Additionally, a sensitivity analysis was performed using the leave-one-out method. The analysis revealed no statistically significant association between air pollution and SKCM risk, with specific findings as follows: PM2.5 (P = .485), PM2.5-10 (P = .535), PM10 (P = .136), and nitrogen oxides (P = .745). While some results exhibited heterogeneity, all findings demonstrated an absence of pleiotropy. This study did not find substantive evidence supporting a causal relationship between air pollution and the risk of SKCM within European populations. The comprehensive MR analysis, encompassing various pollutants, suggests that environmental factors such as air pollution may not be significant contributors to the development of SKCM.

BACKGROUND: Cancer stem cells (CSCs) and long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) are known to play a crucial role in the growth, migration, recurrence, and drug resistance of tumor cells, particularly in triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC). This study aims to investigate stemness-related lncRNAs (SRlncRNAs) as potential prognostic indicators for TNBC patients. METHODS: Utilizing RNA sequencing data and corresponding clinical information from the TCGA database, and employing Weighted Gene Co-expression Network Analysis (WGCNA) on TNBC mRNAsi sourced from an online database, stemness-related genes (SRGs) and SRlncRNAs were identified. A prognostic model was developed using univariate Cox and LASSO-Cox analysis based on SRlncRNAs. The performance of the model was evaluated using Kaplan-Meier analysis, ROC curves, and ROC-AUC. Additionally, the study delved into the underlying signaling pathways and immune status associated with the divergent prognoses of TNBC patients. RESULTS: The research identified a signature of six SRlncRNAs (AC245100.6, LINC02511, AC092431.1, FRGCA, EMSLR, and MIR193BHG) for TNBC. Risk scores derived from this signature were found to correlate with the abundance of plasma cells. Furthermore, the nominated chemotherapy drugs for TNBC exhibited considerable variability between different risk score groups. RT-qPCR validation confirmed abnormal expression patterns of these SRlncRNAs in TNBC stem cells, affirming the potential of the SRlncRNAs signature as a prognostic biomarker. CONCLUSION: The identified signature not only demonstrates predictive power in terms of patient outcomes but also provides insights into the underlying biology, signaling pathways, and immune status associated with TNBC prognosis. The findings suggest the possibility of guiding personalized treatments, including immune checkpoint gene therapy and chemotherapy strategies, based on the risk scores derived from the SRlncRNA signature. Overall, this research contributes valuable knowledge towards advancing precision medicine in the context of TNBC.

Novel strategies utilizing light in the second near-infrared region (NIR-II; 900-1,880 nm wavelengths) offer the potential to visualize and treat solid tumours with enhanced precision. Over the past few decades, numerous techniques leveraging NIR-II light have been developed with the aim of precisely eliminating tumours while maximally preserving organ function. During cancer surgery, NIR-II optical imaging enables the visualization of clinically occult lesions and surrounding vital structures with increased sensitivity and resolution, thereby enhancing surgical quality and improving patient prognosis. Furthermore, the use of NIR-II light promises to improve cancer phototherapy by enabling the selective delivery of increased therapeutic energy to tissues at greater depths. Initial clinical studies of NIR-II-based imaging and phototherapy have indicated impressive potential to decrease cancer recurrence, reduce complications and prolong survival. Despite the encouraging results achieved, clinical translation of innovative NIR-II techniques remains challenging and inefficient; multidisciplinary cooperation is necessary to bridge the gap between preclinical research and clinical practice, and thus accelerate the translation of technical advances into clinical benefits. In this Review, we summarize the available clinical data on NIR-II-based imaging and phototherapy, demonstrating the feasibility and utility of integrating these technologies into the treatment of cancer. We also introduce emerging NIR-II-based approaches with substantial potential to further enhance patient outcomes, while also highlighting the challenges associated with imminent clinical studies of these modalities.

BACKGROUND: Immunosuppressive status is prevalent in cancer patients and increases the complexity of tumor immunotherapy. It has been found that Listeria-vectored tumor vaccines had the potential ability of two-side regulatory effect on the immune response during immunotherapy. RESULTS: The results show that the combined immunotherapy with the LM∆E6E7 and LI∆E6E7, the two cervical cancer vaccine candidate strains constructed by our lab, improves the antitumor immune response and inhibits the suppressive immune response in tumor-bearing mice in vivo, confirming the two-sided regulatory ability of the immune response caused by Listeria-vectored tumor vaccines. The immunotherapy reduces the expression level of myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSCs)-inducing factors and then inhibits the phosphorylation level of STAT3 protein, the regulatory factor of MDSCs differentiation, to reduce the MDSCs formation ability. Moreover, vaccines reduce the expression of functional molecules associated with MDSCs may by inhibiting the phosphorylation level of the JAK1-STAT1 and JAK2-STAT3 pathways in tumor tissues to attenuate the immunosuppressive function of MDSCs. CONCLUSIONS: Immunotherapy with Listeria-vectored cervical cancer vaccines significantly reduces the level and function of MDSCs in vivo, which is the key point to the destruction of immunosuppression. The study for the first to elucidate the mechanism of breaking the immunosuppression.

Antibiotics, the persistent organic pollutants, have brought serious pollution to the aquatic environment. Therefore, it is necessary to select rapid adsorbents to remove them from their long-term threat. Herein, the introduction of defects in BN was employed to enhance its surface chemical activity for rapid capture of tetracycline via hydrothermal and calcination methods. The defect content in BN can be controlled by adjusting the volume ratio of ethanol to water. Among them, when the volume ratio of H2O/ethanol is 4/1 (BN-3), BN-3 has the most N defects at 33%, which increases the adsorption rate of h-BN for TC and promotes the adsorption capacity to 302.15 mg g-1, which is due to the introduction of nitrogen defects significantly regulates the electronic structure of BN. The corresponding theoretical calculations confirm that BN with N defects decreases the absorption energy of BN for TC. Additionally, the adsorption removal rate of tetracycline still reached 95.5% after 5 cycles of TC adsorption by BN-3, indicating that the defect-modified BN has good reusability and is beneficial for its use in pollutant adsorption.

N6-Methyladenosine (m6A) is the most abundant posttranscriptional modification, and its contribution to cancer evolution has recently been appreciated. Renal cancer is the most common adult genitourinary cancer, approximately 85% of which is accounted for by the clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) subtype characterized by VHL loss. However, it is unclear whether VHL loss in ccRCC affects m6A patterns. In this study, we demonstrate that VHL binds and promotes METTL3/METTL14 complex formation while VHL depletion suppresses m6A modification, which is distinctive from its canonical E3 ligase role. m6A RNA immunoprecipitation sequencing (RIP-Seq) coupled with RNA-Seq allows us to identify a selection of genes whose expression may be regulated by VHL-m6A signaling. Specifically, PIK3R3 is identified to be a critical gene whose mRNA stability is regulated by VHL in a m6A-dependent but HIF-independent manner. Functionally, PIK3R3 depletion promotes renal cancer cell growth and orthotopic tumor growth while its overexpression leads to decreased tumorigenesis. Mechanistically, the VHL-m6A-regulated PIK3R3 suppresses tumor growth by restraining PI3K/AKT activity. Taken together, we propose a mechanism by which VHL regulates m6A through modulation of METTL3/METTL14 complex formation, thereby promoting PIK3R3 mRNA stability and protein levels that are critical for regulating ccRCC tumorigenesis.

Due to its intrinsic tumor-targeting attribute, limited immunogenicity, and cage architecture, ferritin emerges as a highly promising nanocarrier for targeted drug delivery. In the effort to develop ferritin cage-encapsulated cisplatin (CDDP) as a therapeutic agent, we found unexpectedly that the encapsulation led to inactivation of the drug. Guided by the structural information, we deciphered the interactions between ferritin cages and CDDP, and we proposed a potential mechanism responsible for attenuating the antitumor efficacy of CDDP encapsulated within the cage. Six platinum prodrugs were then designed to avoid the inactivation. The antitumor activities of these ferritin-platinum prodrug complexes were then evaluated in cells of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC). Compared with free CDDP, the complexes were more effective in delivering and retaining platinum in the cells, leading to increased DNA damage and enhanced cytotoxic action. They also exhibited improved pharmacokinetics and stronger antitumor activities in mice bearing ESCC cell-derived xenografts as well as patient-derived xenografts. The successful encapsulation also illustrates the critical significance of comprehending the interactions between small molecular drugs and ferritin cages for the development of precision-engineered nanocarriers.

The complete mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) of Tenuidactylus dadunensis (Squamata: Gekkonidae) was described by using next-generation sequencing. The total length of mtDNA was 16,893 bp, which contained 13 PCGs (COX1-3, ND1-6, ND4L, ATP6, ATP8, and CYTB), 22 transfer RNA(tRNA) genes, 2 ribosomal RNA (rRNA) genes, and a control region (D-loop). The Bayesian inference tree showed that T. dadunensis was included in Gekkonidae and was a sister taxon to Cyrtopodion scabrum. The complete mtDNA of T. dadunensis will be an important genetic resource to the studies of conservation and research of geckonids.

Listeria monocytogenes is a foodborne pathogen. In 2022, we collected 15 strains of L. monocytogenes isolated from patients in some foodborne disease sentinel monitoring hospitals in Sichuan Province. Through whole genome sequencing (WGS), we obtained the virulence genes carried by the strains, multi-locus sequence typing (MLST), core genome MLST (cgMLST), clonal complex (CC), and serum groups and constructed a phylogenetic tree and minimum spanning tree with nonhuman strains. An analysis shows that all 15 strains of L. monocytogenes carry virulence genes LIPI-1 and LIPI-2, whereas the carrying rates of LIPI-3 and LIPI-4 virulence genes are relatively low. The MLST typing results showed a total of 10 sequence types (ST), including 10 CCs, with ST7 being the dominant type. The cgMLST clearly distinguishes strains of different lineages and CC types. The serum group is divided into three types: IIa, IIb, and IVb, with IIa being the dominant serum group. An analysis of antibiotic genes showed that all 15 strains carried FosX, lin, mprF, and norB with high carrying rates. The minimum inhibitory concentration results indicated that all were susceptible to eight antibiotics (ampicillin, penicillin, tetracycline, meropenem, erythromycin, vancomycin, ciprofloxacin, and trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole). The analysis of strains isolated from different sources of Listeria revealed varying degrees of diversity, and the contamination of meat and environment within the province is closely related to clinical cases. L. monocytogenes isolated from clinical cases in Sichuan Province carry multiple virulence and antibiotic genes, with high potential pathogenicity. It is necessary to further strengthen the monitoring and control of food and environment by L. monocytogenes within Sichuan Province.

BACKGROUND: Distinguishing between nontuberculous mycobacterial (NTM) lung infections and pulmonary tuberculosis becomes challenging due to their similar clinical manifestations and radiological images. Consequently, instances of delayed diagnosis or misdiagnosis are highly frequent. A feasible and reliable indicator of the existence of NTM in the early stages of the disease would help to solve this dilemma. METHODS: In this study, we evaluated the potential of smear-positive and Xpert assay (Cepheid, USA) negative outcomes as an early indicator of possible NTM infection in a high TB-burden setting retrospectively and prospectively. RESULTS: During the study period, 12·77% (138/1081) of the smear-positive cases yielded negative outcomes with the simultaneous Xpert assay. From the 110 patients who yielded smear-positive/Xpert-negative outcomes and cultivated strain as well, 105 (95·45%) were proved to have NTM isolated. By incorporating an additional criterion of a negative result from the Interferon-gamma release assay, the accuracy of the screening method reached 100%. Regarding the NTM presence prediction value, smear-positive/Xpert-negative has a sensitivity of 24·86% (45/181) in all NTM isolated cases but 93·75-96·55% accuracy in retrospective study or 93·75% accuracy in prospective study in smear-positive NTM isolated cases. In addition, the specificity was ∼99·47% (943/948) in smear-positive tuberculosis cases. CONCLUSION: The clue of the presence of NTM could be obtained on the first day of the hospital visit due to the point of care (POC) feature of smear testing and Xpert assay. About one-fourth of the NTM-isolated patients would benefit from this rapid, convenient, and reliable screening strategy in the given circumstance. Smear-positive/Xpert-negative outcome is an early, trustable indicator that is indicative of NTM isolation.

Due to a rapidly aging global population, osteoporosis and the associated risk of bone fractures have become a wide-spread public health problem. However, osteoporosis is very heterogeneous, and the existing standard diagnostic measure is not sufficient to accurately identify all patients at risk of osteoporotic fractures and to guide therapy. Here, we constructed the first prospective multi-omics atlas of the largest osteoporosis cohort to date (longitudinal data from 366 participants at three time points), and also implemented an explainable data-intensive analysis framework (DLSF: Deep Latent Space Fusion) for an omnigenic model based on a multi-modal approach that can capture the multi-modal molecular signatures (M3S) as explicit functional representations of hidden genotypes. Accordingly, through DLSF, we identified two subtypes of the osteoporosis population in Chinese individuals with corresponding molecular phenotypes, i.e., clinical intervention relevant subtypes (CISs), in which bone mineral density benefits response to calcium supplements in 2-year follow-up samples. Many snpGenes associated with these molecular phenotypes reveal diverse candidate biological mechanisms underlying osteoporosis, with xQTL preferences of osteoporosis and its subtypes indicating an omnigenic effect on different biological domains. Finally, these two subtypes were found to have different relevance to prior fracture and different fracture risk according to 4-year follow-up data. Thus, in clinical application, M3S could help us further develop improved diagnostic and treatment strategies for osteoporosis and identify a new composite index for fracture prediction, which were remarkably validated in an independent cohort (166 participants).

Deficiency in regulatory T cells (Tregs) is an important mechanism underlying the pathogenesis of pediatric aplastic anemia, but its specific mechanism is unclear. In our study, we aimed to investigate whether IL-2/STAT5 can regulate the proliferation of Tregs in aplastic anemia (AA) by regulating their expression of B lymphocyte-induced mature protein-1 (BLIMP-1) or interferon regulatory factor 4 (IRF4). Through clinical research and animal experiments, we found that poor activation of the IL-2/STAT5 signaling pathway may leads to low expression of BLIMP-1 in Tregs of children with AA, which leads to defects in the differentiation and proliferation of Tregs in AA. In AA model mice, treatment with IL-2c reversed the decrease in Treg proportions and reduction in Blimp-1 expression in Tregs by increasing the phosphorylation of Stat5 in Tregs. In AA, deficiency of IRF4 expression in Tregs is closely related to the deficiency of Tregs, but is not regulated by the IL-2/STAT5 pathway.

Both therapeutic hypothermia and neural stem cells (NSCs) transplantation have shown promise in neuroprotection and neural repair after brain injury. However, the effects of therapeutic hypothermia on neuronal differentiation of NSCs are not elucidated. In this study, we aimed to investigate whether mild hypothermia promoted neuronal differentiation in cultured and transplanted human NSCs (hNSCs). A significant increase in neuronal differentiation rate of hNSCs was found when exposed to 35°C, from 33% to 45% in vitro and from 7% to 15% in vivo. Additionally, single-cell RNA sequencing identified upregulation of RNA-binding motif protein 3 (RBM3) in neuroblast at 35°C, which stabilized the SRY-box transcription factor 11 (SOX11) mRNA and increased its protein expression, leading to an increase in neuronal differentiation of hNSCs. In conclusion, our study highlights that mild hypothermia at 35°C enhances hNSCs-induced neurogenesis through the novel RBM3-SOX11 signaling pathway, and provides a potential treatment strategy in brain disorders.

BACKGROUND: Antidepressants, noninvasive brain stimulation (NIBS), and their combination are commonly used in routine clinical practice. Nevertheless, there is a continuous dispute regarding whether the effectiveness of NIBS in combination with antidepressants exceeds that of antidepressants alone. This meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the existing evidence and draw a definitive conclusion on this issue. METHODS: We conducted a comprehensive search of five databases: Embase, PubMed, Web of Science, SinoMed, and the Cochrane Database of Randomized Controlled Trials. The search was conducted until October 6, 2023. The primary outcomes were the pre- and post-intervention depression and anxiety scores. Secondary outcomes included dropout rates, response rates, and certain levels of neurotransmitters [ 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT), dopamine (DA), and gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA)] at the end of the intervention. Subgroup, meta-regression, and sensitivity analyses were performed to explore the sources of heterogeneity. The data were analysed using R 4.2.2. RESULTS: We included 18 RCTs [1357 participants; 11 studies used repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) and 7 studies used transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS)]. The follow-up duration varied from two weeks to three months. Overall, whether in combination with rTMS or tDCS, antidepressants proved more effective in alleviating depressive symptoms compared to when used as monotherapy. However, this advantage was not evident during the follow-up period. (p > 0.05). And the combination's efficacy in improving anxiety was found to be lacking. Post-treatment serum levels of 5-HT, DA, and GABA were higher in the rTMS group were higher than antidepressant medication group (p < 0.05). Furthermore, subgroup analysis results indicated that only the rTMS + antidepressant medication treatment significantly improved remission and remission rates. The meta-regression results showed that the type of antidepressant and the sex of the participants had a significant association with the depression score. CONCLUSION: Combination treatment with NIBS was significantly more effective in improving depression symptoms than medication alone. rTMS combined with antidepressants appears to be more effective in improving response and remission rates. However, efficacy may be influenced by the type of medicine used in combination, and long-term efficacy data is lacking. SYSTEMATIC REVIEW REGISTRATION: PROSPERO CRD42023388259.

Harnessing low-density solar energy and converting it into high-density chemical energy through photocatalysis has emerged as a promising avenue for the production of chemicals and remediation of environmental pollution, which contributes to alleviating the overreliance on fossil fuels. In recent years, metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have gained widespread application in the field of photocatalysis due to their photostability, tunable structures, and responsiveness in the visible light range. However, most MOFs exhibit relatively low response to light, limiting their practical applications. MOFs-derived nanomaterials not only retain the inherent advantages of pristine MOFs but also show enhanced light adsorption and responsiveness. This review categorizes and summarizes MOFs-derived nanomaterials, including nanocarbons and nanometal oxides, providing representative examples for the synthetic strategies of each category. Subsequently, the recent research progress on MOFs-derived materials in photocatalytic applications are systematically introduced, specifically in the areas of photocatalytic water splitting to H2, photocatalytic CO2 reduction, and photocatalytic water treatment. The corresponding mechanisms involved in each photocatalytic reaction are elaborated in detail. Finally, the review discusses the challenges and further directions faced by MOFs-derived nanomaterials in the field of photocatalysis, highlighting their potential role in advancing sustainable energy production and environmental remediation.
