RESUMEN

Hemicellulose extracted from ecalyptus APMP pulping waste liquor and undergoes etherification modification to produce carboxymethyl hemicellulose (CMHC). Subsequently, CMHC undergoes esterification reaction with p-hydroxybenzoic acid to synthesize a novel polysaccharide-based preservative known as carboxymethyl hemicellulose p-hydroxybenzoate (P-CMHC). The synthesis conditions of P-CMHC were optimized using the response surface methodology, resulting in an optimal esterification condition that achieved a degree of substitution of 0.232. P-CMHC exhibits excellent antioxidant activity, including 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) and hydroxyl radical scavenging activities. Additionally, it demonstrates favorable hygroscopic and moisturizing properties. Thiazole blue (MTT) experiments evaluating cell proliferation rate indicate that P-CMHC possesses negligible cytotoxicity, making it a promising, safe, and healthy preservative. Consequently, it can be considered as a new material for applications in the fields of biomedicine, food, and cosmetics.

RESUMEN

Fe-based MOFs (Fe-MOFs) are deemed promising Fenton-like catalysts due to their well-developed pores and accessible active sites. However, their inferior catalytic activity, iron leaching, and low H2O2 utilization always hinder their application as Fe-based MOF catalysts. In this work, we manipulated the structure of Fe-oxo nodes in MIL-88B(Fe) via a CuI species substitution method, affording a mixed-valence (Cu-incorporated Fe-MOFs) with highly improved Fenton-like performance. It is found that the CuI serves as a shuttle to promote transfer between FeII/FeIII, inducing the formation of a larger amount of stable FeII sites, which was proven by experimental and DFT calculation results. A linear relationship was observed for the Fenton-like performance and the amount of CuI species for the catalysts. The corresponding value of the •OH formation is 2.17 eV for Cu-incorporated MIL-88B(Fe), which is significantly lower than that of MIL-88B(Fe) (2.69 eV). Meanwhile, the enriched CuI species suppress Fe species leaching during the catalytic reaction. The Fe-ion leakage of 0.4Cu@MIL-88B is very tiny (0.01-0.03 mg/L), significantly less than that of MIL-88B (2.00-3.02 mg/L). At the same time, H2O2 utilization for 0.4Cu@ MIL-88B(Fe) is 88%, which is almost 4.4 times that of pure MIL-88B(Fe). This work provides insights into the rational design of Fe-MOFs as promising Fenton-like catalysts for wastewater treatment.

RESUMEN

Background and aims: The Pavlovian-to-instrumental transfer (PIT) effect is a phenomenon that Pavlovian conditioned cues that could influence one's instrumental behavior. In several substance and behavioral addictions, such as tobacco use disorder and gambling disorder, addiction-related cues could promote independently trained instrumental drug-seeking/drug-taking behaviors, indicating a specific PIT effect. However, it is unclear whether Internet gaming disorder (IGD) would show a similar change in PIT effects as other addictions. The study aimed to explore the specific PIT effects in IGD. Methods: We administrated a PIT task to individuals with IGD (n = 40) and matched health controls (HCs, n = 50), and compared the magnitude of specific PIT effects between the two groups. The severity of the IGD symptoms was assessed by the Chinese version 9-item Internet Gaming Disorder Scale (IGDS) and the Internet Addiction Test (IAT). Results: We found that: (1) related to the HCs group, the IGD group showed enhanced specific PITgame effects, where gaming-related cues lead to an increased choice rate of gaming-related responses; (2) in the IGD group, the magnitude of specific PITgame effects were positively correlated with IAT scores (rho = 0.39, p = 0.014). Discussion and Conclusions: Individuals with IGD showed enhanced specific PIT effects related to HCs, which were associated with the severity of addictive symptoms. Our results highlighted the incentive salience of gaming-related cues in IGD.

RESUMEN

AIMS: This study aimed to identify gray/white matter volume (GMV/WMV) alterations in Internet Gaming Disorder (IGD), with a special focus on the subregions of the mesocorticolimbic dopaminergic system and their clinical association. RESULTS: Compared with healthy controls, IGDs showed bigger GMV in the bilateral caudate and the left nucleus accumbens (NAc), and bigger WMV in the inferior parietal lobule. The comparison of regions of interest (ROI) confirmed increased GMV in the bilateral caudate (including the dorsal anterior, body, and tail) and the left core of NAc in IGD, but no significant WMV alterations in the mesocorticolimbic dopaminergic system. GMVs in the left lateral orbital gyrus of orbitofrontal cortex (OFC) were associated with craving for games, while GMVs in the left anterior insula, right NAc, right caudate, and right OFC were associated with self-control in IGD. CONCLUSIONS: IGD was accompanied by changed GMV, but not WMV, in the mesocorticolimbic dopaminergic system. GMV in the mesocorticolimbic dopaminergic system may contribute to impaired self-control and craving in IGD.

RESUMEN

Visible light-driven H2O2 production presents the unique merits of sustainability and environmental friendliness. The size of noble metal nanoparticles (NPs) determines their dispersion and electronic structure and greatly affects their photocatalytic activity. In this work, a series of sized Au NPs over C3N4 were modulated for H2O2 production. The results show that there is a volcanic trend in H2O2 with the decrease of Au particle size, and the highest H2O2 production rate of 1052 µmol g-1 h-1 is obtained from medium-sized Au particles (∼8.7 nm). The relationship between structure and catalytic performance is supported by experimental and theoretical methods. (1) First, medium-sized Au NPs promote photon absorption, and have a suitable built-in electric field at the heterojunction, which can be successfully tuned to achieve a more efficient h+-e- spatial separation. (2) Second, medium-sized Au NPs enhance O2 adsorption, and create selective 2e- O2 reduction reaction sites. (3) Particularly, medium-sized Au NPs promote the desorption of produced H2O2 and inhibit H2O2 decomposition, finally leading to the highest H2O2 selectivity. Excellent catalytic performance will be obtained by finely optimizing the particle size in a certain range. This work provides a new idea for preparing high efficiently photocatalysts for H2O2 production.

RESUMEN

This study aimed to preliminary examine the psychometric properties of the Chinese version 96-item VIA Inventory for Youth (VIA Youth-96) by analyzing the internal consistency, factorial validity, and criterion validity, and to examine the age-related changes in character strengths (CSs) among adolescents. The sample consisted of 959 adolescents aged 10-17 (49.5% boys). Participants completed the Chinese version VIA Youth-96, along with the Perceived Parental Autonomy Support Scale, and questionnaires assessing life satisfaction and self-efficacy online. The Chinese version VIA Youth-96 showed a good fit for the original four-factor structure, and CS scores were significantly correlated with life satisfaction and self-efficacy indicating a good criterion validity of the scale. The internal consistency was 0.54-0.86 for subscales. Moreover, this study revealed significant age-related changes in CSs among adolescents, eight CSs significantly linearly declined by age. These results suggested that the Chinese version VIA Youth-96 is a valid tool for assessing CSs in adolescents and that CSs are declined linearly by age during adolescence.

RESUMEN

Photoredox catalysis under visible light has been recorded as a potential and reassuring recipe for organic synthesis. More and more heterojunction catalysts have appeared in people's fields of vision, especially those with S-scheme heterojunction structures. The S-scheme heterojunction structure of a photocatalyst can remarkably improve its photocatalytic efficiency. Here, an S-scheme α-Fe2O3/Cu2O heterojunction photocatalyst was designed and fabricated for the primary amine oxidative coupling reaction. On account of that, the S-scheme structure effectively separated the photogenerated electron-hole pairs and enhanced the photoredox ability of the photocatalytic system. The α-Fe2O3/Cu2O composite could also enhance the reactivity to a large extent. This work will provide new insight into the design of photocatalysts with a more reasonable structure and higher performance.

RESUMEN

Character strengths could effectively prevent negative psychological outcomes in adults. However, there was little research conducted among early adolescents. The present study aimed to explore character strengths that were independently related to fewer behavior problems in early adolescents. In total, 521 early adolescents (mean age 10.92 ± 0.04, range 10-12 years) were recruited from primary schools in Sichuan, China. Character strengths were measured using the Values in Action Inventory of Strengths for Youth (VIA-Youth). Behavior problems were measured using the Conners Parent Symptom Questionnaire (PSQ). The results showed that behavior problems were negatively correlated with character strengths (r = -0.14 to -0.3, p < 0.05 Bonferroni corrected). Character strengths explained a significant proportion of additional variance (14-22%) in five types of behavior problems after controlling the effect of demographic factors (residence, left-behind experiences, maternal education level). Moreover, several specific character strengths showed an independent contribution (ß = -0.34 to -0.14 for self-regulation, perseverance, zest, humility, and leadership; ß = 0.21 to 0.34, for hope; all p < 0.05) to behavior problems. Our study revealed that character strengths were protective factors against behavior problems in early adolescents.

RESUMEN

Zeolite imidazole framework materials (ZIFs) are a new type of antibacterial material with high chemical and thermal stability, and good antibacterial effect. However, powder ZIFs materials have the disadvantages of difficult separation and easy aggregation, which limit their application. In this work, ZIFs and chitosan (CS) were compounded by in-situ growth method to prepare a new antibacterial agent. The synergism of CS and ZIFs can effectively promote antibacterial effect compared with CS and pristine ZIFs, and CS/ZIF-67(1:6) has the best antibacterial activity, and its inhibitory rate (in 15 h) of E. coli is 96.75%, and the inhibitory rate of S. aureus reaches as high as 100%. This composites can effectively cause bacterial cell membrane rupture and leakage of internal nucleic acid and protein, leads to achieve antibacterial effect, and also exhibit excellent long-term (at least 5 days) antibacterial properties, the leaching of cobalt is below than 0.5 mg·L-1, and this composites are with excellent bio-compatibility.

RESUMEN

Both elevated intolerance of uncertainty (IU) and maladaptive metacognitive beliefs (MBs) were associated with depression. However, the relationship between MBs and IU in clinical depression is unclear. The current study aimed to investigate the putative impairment of MBs and IU in major depressive disorder (MDD) and explore the relationship between these two factors with depressive symptoms. Metacognition Questionnaire-30 Items (MCQ-30), Intolerance of Uncertainty Scale-Short Form (IUS-12) and clinical rating scales were administered to 53 patients with MDD and 56 healthy controls (HCs). Stepwise regressions were performed to explore independent contributions of MBs and IU on depression. Mediation analysis was used to examine associations among variables. Patients with MDD reported higher IUS-12 and MCQ-30 scores than HCs. Stepwise regressions revealed a unique contribution of negative MBs concerning the consequences of not controlling thoughts (MCQ-NC) on depression symptoms while controlling the effects of age, gender, anxiety symptoms and IU. MCQ-NC and negative MBs concerning the uncontrollability and danger of negative thinking (MCQ-NEG) completely mediated the effects of IU on depression and anxiety symptoms. Our results provided clear evidence that maladaptive negative MBs are directly associated with depression symptoms, and mediated the effect of IU on depression and anxiety symptoms, suggesting that IU and MBs influence clinical symptoms in a hierarchical manner.

RESUMEN

ETHNOPHARMACOLOGY RELEVANCE: Pain is an unpleasant sensory and emotional experience, often accompanied by the occurrence of a variety of diseases. More than 800 kinds of traditional Chinese medicines (TCM) has now been reported for pain relief and several monomers have been developed into novel analgesic drugs. Bupleurum chinense and Angelica biserrata were representatives of the TCM that are currently available for the treatment of pain. AIM OF THE STUDY: The study aims to detect the potential analgesic activity of each monomer of Bupleurum chinense and Angelica biserrata and to explore whether Nav1.7 is one of the targets for its analgesic activity. MATERIALS AND METHODS: In this study, five monomers from Bupleurum chinense (Saikosaponin A, Saikosaponin B1, Saikosaponin B2, Saikosaponin C, Saikosaponin D) and five monomers from the Angelica biserrata (Osthole, Xanthotoxin, Imperatorin, Isoimperatorin, Psoralen) were examined by whole-cell patch-clamp on Nav1.7, which was closely associated with pain. Classical mouse pain models were also used to further verify the analgesic activity in vivo. RESULTS: The results showed that monomers of Saikosaponins and Angelica biserrata all inhibited the peak currents of Nav1.7, indicating that Nav1.7 might be involved in the analgesic mechanism of Saikosaponins and Angelica biserrata. Among them, Saikosaponin A and Imperatorin showed the strongest inhibitory effect on Nav1.7. Furthermore, both Saikosaponin A and Imperatorin showed inhibitory effects on thermal pain and formalin-induced pain in phase II in vivo. CONCLUSION: The results provide valuable information for future studies on the potential of TCM in alleviating pain.
