RESUMEN

The normal range of postoperative imaging findings are described in 34 asymptomatic patients studied 5-66 months (mean, 28 months) after undergoing the continuous-suture graft-inclusion technique for repair of aortic aneurysms (n = 20) and dissections (n = 14) involving the ascending aorta. All 34 patients underwent magnetic resonance (MR) imaging, and 24 patients also underwent computed tomography (CT). Perigraft thickening was seen in 19 patients (56%) with MR imaging and in eight patients (33%) with CT. Flow outside the graft but contained within the native wrap was noted in five patients (15%) with MR imaging and in four patients (17%) with contrast material-enhanced CT. Thrombus was identified outside the graft and within the wrap in seven patients (21%) with MR imaging and in six patients (25%) with CT. Mass effect on the graft was depicted in four patients (12%) with MR imaging and in three patients (13%) with CT. Of the 14 patients who underwent repair of aortic dissections, an intimal flap was seen distal to the graft in seven of the 14 (50%) evaluated with MR imaging and in four of the 10 (40%) evaluated with contrast-enhanced CT. An accurate postoperative imaging evaluation requires precise knowledge of the surgical technique performed and its anatomic consequences.

Five patients with renal insufficiency were studied with T1-weighted magnetic resonance (MR) imaging before and after intravenous administration of gadopentetate dimeglumine (0.1 mmol/kg) to characterize renal lesions that were detected with nonenhanced computed tomography (CT) and were considered indeterminate. Four patients demonstrated renal lesions that enhanced after gadolinium administration. A total of five lesions in these four patients were surgically resected and found to be renal cell carcinoma at pathologic examination. The fifth patient was spared surgery because a hyperattenuated lesion noted at nonenhanced CT did not enhance with intravenous gadolinium, indicating a benign cyst. Five incidentally occurring benign cysts removed at the time of nephrectomy in two of the patients did not demonstrate enhancement with gadolinium on MR images. Serial serum creatine levels were obtained before and after gadolinium administration in all patients; no changes were noted after gadolinium administration. Gadolinium-enhanced MR imaging is an effective method for characterizing renal lesions in patients with renal insufficiency. At the usual dosage, there appears to be no nephrotoxic reaction in these patients.

RESUMEN

Two bridged tricyclic analogues of 2-amino-6,7-dihydroxytetrahydronaphthalene (ADTN) in which the amino group is held rigidly in an equatorial and axial conformation, respectively, and in which the catechol ring is twisted out of the plane of the ethylamine chain have been synthesized and assayed for their effects on the binding of [3H]dopamine, [3H]apomorphine, and [3H]spiperone to calf and rat striatal homogenates. Up to concentrations of 2000 nM, these exo- and endo-2-amino-6,7-dihydroxybenzonorbornenes displayed no ability to displace any of the radioligands from their receptor sites in the calf and rat brain homogenates, in contrast to measured IC50 values of 6 and 3.1 nM for racemic ADTN vs. [3H]dopamine in the two preparations, respectively. The enantiomers of the exo amine showed no specific activity vs. [3H]dopamine in the two preparations, respectively. The enantiomers of the exo amine showed no specific activity vs [3H]dopamine. Although negative, these data are informative in molecular modeling of dopaminergic receptor interactions.
